I made a reservation two days before for a Saturday night dinner for 2. 75 Chestnut is downtown in the middle of everything, yet it feels secluded and almost hidden on a side street. I love the coziness and Beacon Hill charm that it has. Only downsides are the big tvs which take away from the ambiance, especially as it gets dark outside. I guess its 2023 and I have to live with it. I got the steak and avocado salad and it was so fresh and flavorful. I usually don't like raw tomatoes but these were too good for me to pick out. I had enough for lunch leftovers the next day. The menu was broad and multiple things caught me eye so I would absolutely come back. My wife and I were in Boston for a quick anniversary trip. After a long day of walking around and viewing all the city has to offer, we needed some dinner. 75 Chestnut was within walking distance of the hotel and their reservation system had an available table. This is a cute little place nestled on a residential street. If we lived close by, I'm sure we would consider this a regular hangout. Everything about this quaint, un-pretentious, neighborhood gem that is right in the middle of it all is perfect. We were back in town for the holiday and with a night in the city, we wanted somewhere upscale enough to feel like date night, but casual enough to not "over do it". We're so happy we dined here (again) after a long hiatus. Our server gave us space to enjoy our meal, yet was attentive at the same time. The wine prices are not outrageously marked up. We opted to split a "starter" portion of the caesar salad which was the perfect amount for two. When we asked our server which she would recommend, she was honest and said that the larger portion would be too much if we were each getting our own entrees. She was right. I chose the veal osso buco which was a special for the evening, and I could eat it ten times over. The veal was cooked so perfectly, a fork did the job alone. Flavors were well balanced, and the mashed potatoes and asparagus were all done well. Still thinking about it. Hubs had the pumpkin ravioli that were cooked al dente, packed enough flavor and were a favorite. The vodka sauce was an interesting accompaniment for the ravioli, but the flavors were a good compliment. He wasn't mad about it. If you order the chocolate lava cake, make sure there's more than two of you. The portion is generous, and the cake is rich. This will be a spot we will come back to when we're in the city! read more

We waited at the door for a bit, they did have a plate for crackers, cheese, and ham for you to nibble on if the wait was going to be long, and you could order a drink while you wait. We decided to just wait until we sat down before ordering drinks. The entire restaurant is a bit dark but the ambience is nice. If I lived in the city I would love to come here for a nice dinner after work, or come with some colleagues for a couple of drinks and vent about adulting life. But it was also a nice place for a normal Wednesday night dinner as well. We were quite full from lunch so we decided to share an entrée which was the seafood stew. We each got a Boston Bibb salad which was so refreshing, the sourness if the apple slices paired with goat cheese and cranberries was a good combination to open up our appetite. The seafood stew was flavorful and consisted of a generous piece of salmon, swordfish, mussels, shrimp, and some scallops. Then we topped off the night with the crème brûlée trio and we got a passion fruit and two vanilla flavors. We made a reservation three months prior to coming from out of town. It was Easter Sunday and to prepare for the Boston marathon we were referred to here. The staff was direct and anytime we asked for something it felt like an inconvenience. We brought 11 people, which is a lot but they had a big notice with our reservation. We felt rushed with staff wanting to take our plates before finished and there were expressions made by staff that was unprofessional towards my family. I recommend sitting at the bar for and brunch. Eggs Benedict with salmon - marvelous panoply of yum, especially when beer lovers combine it with an Irish Goodbye cocktail. While visiting a friend, her parents treated us to Sunday brunch at 75 Chestnut. They made reservations ahead of time, and I'd highly suggest doing the same if you're planning a weekend brunch. There didn't seem to be a terrible wait, but the place was definitely bustling. Their menu was brilliant. I'm often either overwhelmed or underwhelmed with menu choices, especially for brunch places, but I'm sure Goldilocks would agree that 75 Chestnut's menu was just right. Good balance of sweet/ savory / breakfast/ lunch. I hate tomato juice, but my table-mates ordered Bloody Mary's. These beautiful cocktails made me wish I liked tomato juice. You have the option to make your own or leave it to the bar. Both let the bartenders mix their Mary's. My friend mentioned she wished it was a little spicier, and when she sent it back to the bar to add an extra kick, they added chili flakes instead of a splash of tabasco as one might expect. My friend stated that these chili flakes gave the drink a weird gritty texture. That didn't stop her from drinking the whole thing. I ordered the spicy chicken sausage hash; a beautiful blend of potatoes, spicy chicken sausage, veggies, eggs your way, and hollandaise sauce. The potatoes were slightly undercooked. However, overall I was very pleased (and satiated for the remainder of the day!!) My friend enthusiastically ordered the $20 lobster benedict. She stated she'd ordered this in the past, and her only complaint was her eggs were overcooked. Last time, she didn't say anything, but 75 Chestnut ended up comping the dish. She was willing to give it another try. When her dish came, it was beautifully plated with heaps of lobster, but as soon as she cut into her poached eggs, she knew they were overcooked. She was able to pull the yolk out. She sent it back, specifically asking for runny yolks. When the plate came back, one egg was perfectly cooked, but the second, again, was overcooked. At this point, I think she just wanted to eat her breakfast, so she didn't speak up. But honestly, that's where the missing star comes in. Maybe stray from the benedict? There's lots of other good choices. Overall, 75 Chestnut is a solid eatery for a good brunch. Service was good, food was tasty, vibe is casual yet sophisticated. On the pricier side (at least by my Philadelphia standards)/ around $25-30 per person, and parking in this area is pretty tricky. This is exactly what I needed my first night in Boston. I had bookmarked this location well in advance of the trip so that we had a backup plan for meals as soon as we landed. I was super hungry after the flight so we dropped our bags off at our AirBnB and headed over to 75 Chesnut. It was a short walk from our place so that was a major advantage. When we walked in we were greeted and seated immediately. Since our bodies were still on west coast time we were quite early for dinner. The menu looked great and it was hard to choose. They had some Mardi Gras specials which the wife was intrigued by. I went for the sirloin steak tips and fries because steak sounded way too good to pass up! The portion was a nice size - perfect for after travel. Enough food to fill me up but not so much food I wanted to fall asleep at the table. Our drinks never went empty but the waiter was not overbearing either. The wife ordered the jambalaya but found it lacking on the heat. She was looking forward to a kick in the tastebuds and felt it fell quite flat. We both opted for dessert to top off the night. I went with the apple strudel. Wonderful. The flaky top was a nice crunch over the yummy, mushy apple and spice inside. It was the prefect portion of food after a day of travel and a pre-sleep. To my surprise they had a lovely Wine Wednesday special. One starter, one entree and 2 glasses of wine for $39 pp. I was interested in nearly everything on the special's menu, but landed with the chardonnay (which usually im a pinot grigio girl, but this was nice and sweet!), coconut shrimp (as per the recommendation of the bartender), and the schnitzel. Im not usually one to finish a meal, i love leftovers, but this... i finished it! It was so delicious. The sauce served with the coconut shrimp was just spicy enough. The apple brandy on the perfectly crisped schnitzel, delectable. The veggies and pretzel served with that as well were such a nice treat as sides. I was enjoying my book, so decided to order an espresso martini after finishing my meal. I am a self proclaimed espresso martini connoisseur, and this one is probably the best i've had in Boston since moving here 3 months ago. The service was great here, i witnessed the hostess clearing, serving, and taking orders which i think is just great, she's a team player for sure! The food we ordered were the waffles - nothing special IHOP has better waffles IMHO ; lobster toast - everything was great except for the guacamole on it that was on the verge of going bad, I could taste it; crab cake eggs Benny- crab cake had many shells, avocado ordered on the side was not peeled right, so we ordered another one and had the same issue. Service was OK. This place has a lot of potential and maybe brunch earlier in the day is a better idea so that you ensure your avocados are fresh. Lol. I would say that they are trying to be one step above pub food. They have a lovely patio for seating. Our burger was ordered medium well and came, pretty rare.
