At the airport, the most important thing for a restaurant is speed, not quality, that would be a cherry on top. At 49th State Brewing, we got that cherry. The halibut tacos were... A-MAZING. The fish was crispy and it was a big piece too. The service was also very quick; we ordered our tacos and only had to wait 10 minutes, which is pretty quick. My expectations of airport food are admittedly low. But as a long-time Alaskan and current LA burger snob, I was pretty sure this place had nothing to show me. My son and I rolled up 40 minutes before our flight, and failing to decide between them, we ordered both the King Crabby Grilled Cheese and the Yak Burger, splitting them between us. Fries on the side with both, of course. And beginning there--the fries are excellent. Fat, but still crisp, and perfectly seasoned. We cut the burger down the middle and...damn. This is objectively excellent! Chewy-crisp bacon, a mustard-hinted sauce, and a luxuriant pretzel roll combine to make a complex mouthful of surprise and joy. I can't recommend it enough to do it justice. But wait...there's more. The King Crabby is more than you imagined. It's not a crab-flavored cheese sammich. It's a goddamn crab sammich with some chees. Bread perfectly toasted, real Alaskan king crab, and just the right amount of cheese. I'm just saying--if you're flying out of Ted Stevens, pad your trip with about 45 minutes of fine dining at 49th State, and pray you set Ann as a server and Daniel steering back of house. We walked in and experienced good food. We weren't rushed! We had the peppered Calamari and an artichoke crab dip. Plenty of crab and served hot. We shared a bowl of cream fish soup. Great location and absolute solid choice for a food options flying out of Anchorage. I'm giving this review 4 stars because I like the original location, but as an express option 5 stars taking into account other airport food. I love the mouth watering King Crabby Grilled Cheese and you can't go wrong with the freshness of the Salmon Burger. 49th State also has amazing sides too. This location has limited merchandise, a bar, and plenty places to sit down to rest before your flight. The service was friendly and fast, and most importantly I didn't feel rushed to leave. I will be a regular at 49th State Brewery whenever I leave Anchorage. Cheers! Finally! A competent, reliable place to eat and drink in Ted Stevens! This space has been through numerous iterations in my 9+ years in Alaska, all terrible. The ones I remember are "Pork and Pickle" and "Humpy's". Furthermore, the only other place in this part of the airport is Silvergulch "Brewing". I use quotes because I don't think Silvergulch even exists any more as a brewery. And, it was always odd that a Fairbanks brewery had a location in the Anchorage airport. Anyway, that place started out good, but rapidly went downhill. In downtown Anchorage, I rarely go to 49th State. The main reason is because it's always stressfully, hideously crowded. The first floor is an absolute nightmare. It's "first come first serve" seating, but that usually just results in dozens of obnoxious conversations with strangers that are "saving a seat"...by simply being near it. But, I digress. For the airport, this setup is perfect. All of 49th's beers are solid, and you'll find many on tap here. They are easily the freshest beers in the airport. I didn't sample the food, but the menu looks similar to the downtown Anchorage location. The service was great, it seems like they have a fantastic training program in place. This is really the only place in Ted Stevens you should be eating and drinking. read more

Don't order the crab artichoke dip, it's inedible. Comes with a thick crust of cheese on top that is 1/4 inch thick that my fork couldn't even cut through. Asked guy at bat if it's always like that and he said yes. Waste of money, it's disgusting. Lifted the top off and tried to eat underneath. Blueberry lemonade had so much blueberry purée in it couldn't drink it. Slop all around. Hard pass on this. read more

The day of my flight there was low staffing, so service was a little spotty, but I was in no hurry and the food was great. I ordered an elk burger and a spruce tip soda. After ordering, the food came out in a timely manner and was nice and hot. The burger was well seasoned and cooked as it should be. I wasn't checked on often, but I also wasn't afraid to politely get the servers attention if I needed it. I appreciated that there was a little "cafe" section on the side where you could get drinks or snacks from the fridge, etc without having to sit down in the restaurant side. The breading was hard and the chicken inside was dry and rubbery. More like jerky than chicken tenders. The calamari tasted raw and slimy. The chicken wings were the same. It's tourist season, so I expected higher prices, smaller quantities, and lower quality. Ordered the pulled pork sandwich, which came with a tablespoon of coleslaw, part of a thinly sliced pickle, and enough sauce for less than half of the fries ($1 extra for the sauce). I made it to Juneau before the food poisoning kicked in. My guess is that the pork was the culprit, since it came out of the kitchen barely warm. read more

My experience was negative. It always bothers me when I see a "seat yourself" sign and I end up sitting and waiting while wondering if I need to start waving my arms to be seen. I waited 15 minutes and a waitress finally showed up with a menu and asked if I wanted anything to drink. I asked for a water and she left to get it. After 10 more minutes of waiting and no sign of the waitress I got worried this experience was going to make me late for a flight and just got up and left. This is my favorite place to eat in Anchorage. I've never had a bad meal here. The food quality seems really good. The beers on tap are plentiful. I order a burger and fries and it was good quality meat and fries. The others had the meatloaf and raved about it. The pretzel and beer cheese is awesome and I've never had a bad dessert. The ambience is nice during the summer or warmer months the patio is open with good visuals. And the service we had was super friendly and attentive. My only issue with this place is parking. I don't normally write reviews on Yelp, but this experience was so bad that I really felt compelled to warn other people. When you arrive, the restaurant tells you to seat yourself, but they glare at anyone who tries to sit in an open seat. The wait staff kept complaining that they were shortstaffed, which I understand is not fun, but it's not fair to take your frustration out on paying customers. I've never experienced this ANYWHERE before but our waitress made us bring out our credit card and do some sort of "pre-authorization" before ever getting our food or drink. The worst part was that they were clearly only racially profiling us as Asian Americans, and generally both the wait staff and other customers were incredibly racist towards us.
