The first time I came here, I got a haircut and color with Jennifer (I think that was her name). The color didn't last very long, but the haircut and style was great. She did a great job on the blowout which was perfect for my bachelorette party later that day. My hair looked great in the photos! I came back with my BFF the day before my wedding for manicures. I got an introductory rate with Paulina, and she did a good job. I like the decor and the fact that I never had to wait more than 5 minutes before my services began. Also, they have a convenient online booking system. Since I live in the area, I get discounts in the mail from 4 elements which is great. Great salon! I have gone to Tim for years but would feel confident having anyone of the stylists cut my hair.

I've been to this salon a few times for both hair and spa services, with varying degrees of success. First the good - the spa services are great, no problems at all there and pricing is appropriate. Now the bad - I went there for a Keratin smoothing treatment and haircut recently and am less than thrilled with the results. For the Keratin treatment, the stylist (I won't name names here) did a nice job of explaining to me what to expect and review pricing ($200+) and different options, and spent a reasonable amount of time actually performing the service, but I'm thoroughly unconvinced that they knew what they were doing. I've since had this service done at several other salons, and no other salon washed out the solution at the end of the treatment. Granted, I don't know if they used a different solution requiring it to be washed out, but in retrospect, this strikes me as strange. Next, at the end, I asked if there was any special shampoo that I needed to be using. The answer? "Just don't use a drug store brand." WRONG. I've been told repeatedly from other stylists and found info on the internet saying that you must ONLY use shampoo & conditioner that's sulfate & sodium free. Don't use these products and you effectively wash out the treatment, and your $200+. And that's exactly what happened, after about 2 weeks, I looked as though I had never even had the treatment. Not the results I wanted after only 2 weeks. Not a huge fan of flushing that cash down the toilet either. Next, the cut. I told the (same) stylist that I wanted a few inches taken off the bottom, but no layers and cut some bangs. What did I walk out with? I hair full of layers and no bangs - the exact opposite of what I wanted. In the end, I ended up spending over $300 for the Keratin treatment, cut & tip, only to spend the same amount at another salon just a few weeks later for the exact same services. It's unfortunate that they 1) don't seem to know the services as well as they should, and 2) don't listen to their customers about a simple cut. I will not be going back. read more

I saw Paulina for my first ever pedicure. I was nervous, but she was extremely nice and gentle. Even though I was a first time client, I was greeted by name when I walked in. Searched Yelp for a place with a good blowout and based on reviews, I went to Tim. While he was very nice and gave a great shampoo/head massage, I was extremely disappointed with my blowout. I could have done a much better job on my own as he finger dried my hair and then smoothed the top with a flat brush and loaded it with product. The result was a stringy mess with wavy pieces underneath and no volume at all. read more

Have been getting my hair cut by Rebecca since last summer, and I have no complaints. It's a short cut, styled beautifully. She takes her time and does not chop away mindlessly. She considers your face and color and what will look good. If you are clear about what you want, she'll do it. Would recommend her to my friends. Compared to the $70 the Logan Square salon was charging, this is the same cut for half. And she dries and styles it, something the LS salon didn't want to do - yes, she told me to go natural. The haircuts were great, but the waxing was just awful. She kept half-pulling then re-pulling. The suspense sucks as it is, but she would painfully pull, her fingers would slip, then she'd finish pulling - for EVERY strip! Do not hire slippery fingers at a salon! read more

best haircut experience to date! called on friday afternoon and was able to get in later that day. paulina gave a very thorough consultation about my face shape/hair texture/lifestyle and i'm very pleased with how my hair turned out (layered bob). she took her time which i really appreciated - very relaxed, non-rushed vibe. the price is quite reasonable but they carry luxury products - always love smelling like oribe after a haircut! my only regret is that i didn't take them up on the glass of wine they offered as i checked in. :-) thanks paulina & 4 elements for such a positive experience. read more

I've been to 4 elements twice in hopes of going to black to blonde (my natural color). I went to Tim both times and he was amazing! He will keep you entertained the whole time and really does everything he can to make you look fabulous. I've gotten so many compliments of my "sparkle highlights" both times I got them done. The space is clean, the music is good, and the products make your hair smell delicious. I also love the fact that I can book online so it's easy to give into my whims of wanting to change my hair last minute. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars was because it's pretty pricey, and I'm a student so I have to go sparingly. I will definitely be saving my money to go back here as much as possible. read more

I was not displeased. My appointment with Rebecca was wonderful. I got a cut and color. She was knowledgeable about color and style and made some great suggestions. A week later, I love it even more than when I left the salon. Rebecca took the time to look at my hair, discuss color and cut options and what would work best for what I had going on. I recently enjoyed a spa pedicure at 4 Elements. The team was very professional and courteous. They greeted me as soon as I walked in, took my coat and offered me a beverage. I also saw the esthetician who was great. The only reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5 is that the brochure said the spa pedicure was supposed to last 90 minutes and excluding the dry time it really only lasted a little over 60 minutes. read more

Just went to 4 Elements for the first time. Everyone is super friendly and nice. Tim did my cut and color and I'm very happy with the way it turned out (and I'm picky!) He took the time to show me how to blow dry and style my somewhat unruly hair. Knowing what other salons charge for similar services I would say 4 Elements is a also a good value. read more

I had the WORST experience ever. I went for a brazilian wax with Sara as purchased a groupon. As I stepped in, The receptionist redeemed my groupon and I was guided to one of the spa rooms and Sara asked to undress so she can do the brazilian. Then she comes in the room and says that they cannot honor the groupon price since I am not a first time client and to proceed I will have to pay an extra 35$ on top of 30$ paid for the groupon. I found the attitude and behavior of Sara very disrespectful and unprofessional that I am never going to go to that salon ever. They could have told me about this before asking me to undress. It is so RUDE and indecent. I live in the same community so have used them for some of the services before but from my experience last nite, it was certainly my last visit. I dont think this business is worth my single penny. They really need to work hard on their customer dealing especially in this highly competitive Chicago market. read more

I was very disappointed with this salons, Customer service!!! I was looking for a salon that did vivid coloring and someone had told me about this place,so I called and made an appointment for a consultation with Alexis. I went in with a picture and asked if that picture color was possible and she told me sure and we with through her color pieces. I went in the following week and found her pleasant, but during the process I notice my hair was more red than purple so she said "oh I will fix that". when it was done I found that it had very little purple and more of a wine color, but I thought that maybe a few wash would give me the color I wanted. Well a week and half later it was fading and red, I called Alexis and she had a little attitude on the phone but I thought okay she not happy but I paid over $200.00 and it was not what I wanted. She said that maybe it was a miscommunication so she asked me to come in the following week. I Went in and she had a client on her chair told me to put my things down and took me into the wash bin right away without saying much and when I went to show her the picture she said "no need,I remember". I felt that she was not happy, she did apologizes but I do not know how sincere it was as she then proceeded to blow dry my hair to show me what the color would look like and told me I was done........Yes she actually did not finish blow drying my hair and sent me out with half wet hair.....very unprofessional!!!! I left her a tip as she made me feel that her time was valuable and I was bothering her. I Would never ever refer someone to her!!! you keep treating clients this way and you definitely will not be in business long. I went somewhere else and paid less for what I wanted..... sorry but this kind of customer service warrant no rating. read more

i had a mani/pedi and cut/style today. place was neat/clean and great ambiance. the mani/pedi area was separate from noisier salon, which was nice. she did a good job...not great (she had big shoes to fill from the girl i used to go to that moved), but not why I'd go back. the owner did my hair (condition, cut, style)....she was wonderful. i know what it's like to own a business and how hard it can be, esp. customer satisfaction in highly opinionated environments with sometimes unreasonable clientele, so i commend her more on her customer service skills and perceived genuine care along with a well done technical service. my hair isn't terribly hard to cut, so i won't go back just for that, but to support an owner who shows passion and hard work...that is something i can relate to and value a lot...i commend her on this the most. read more

i have happily been going to ricky at 4 elements for a few years now for cuts and highlights after floating from salon to salon trying to find a stylist that i wanted to commit to. a few years back i had a terrible experience from a different salon (won't mention names) but basically she burned my hair by using too strong of a highlight and forgetting about me. my hair was crazy damaged, looked and felt terrible, so i started using protein everything to get my hair back in shape. fast forward a year, i went to see ricky at 4 elements and he noticed that my hair was over proteined, and suggested i switch to a moisturizing shampoo/conditioner. he gave me a great cut and highlight, and i switched products, and my hair now looks and feels as good as ever - thanks ricky!!! on a side note - i have also received fantastic mani/pedi from their spa, and enjoy the experience there all around :) read more
