Recently, I decided to join GroupOn and see what new deals were available to me. My work brought me to Chicago and I was in desperate need for a manicure and pedicure, so naturally, I hopped onto GroupOn. Salon 9nb popped up and so I decided to give them a call. I was set up with an appointment with Uka Ganbold for the next day. When I arrived and care into the door, the host, Michelle, greeted me with a warm smile and a kind heart. We spoke and she invited me in while offering me tea. She then walked me downstairs to Uka and it was a pleasure to meet her. She did an incredible job on both my hands and feet and I was truly satisfied. Uka's attention to detail and exactly what I wanted was spot on as she took the time on me and gave me her undivided attention. When it was time to depart, everyone in the salon was very nice and kind. Especially Michelle and Ronnie (who was terrific and was doing a GREAT job with a clients hair). Ronnie is AMAZING!!!! During the pandemic and lockdown my hair began to suffer. Naturally, I cut my own bangs and box dyed my hair super dark. I broke the 2 cardinal rules of haircare. I have hated my hair ever since. So being locked inside now had its benefits. Needless to say, Ronnie had a plan. She explained every step she was taking and why. My hair was so damaged I told her she could chop it off! Well, she didn't!!! Ronnie managed to not only avoid further damage to my already brittle hair, but she also restored it somehow. Its smooth, silky and I have amazing subtle high-lights that blend perfectly. I even fell in love with my bangs again. We also have a plan for our next visit and I cannot wait! I rarely have good experiences with color. In fact, booking a coloring appointment almost always wrecks my nerves! On a day like every other I had an appointment with Lisa B. She is fairly new to the area and had a quick opening. I wasn't sure what to expect. The salon has a lot of character. It is very unique! It almost reminds me of early 1900 Victorian style. My hair color was a mix of all sorts of nasty copper, some brown tones, yellow tones and white blonde with various bands of color run amuck! Needless to say I wasn't expecting to be able to have a lot of the color problems with my hair fixed. Lisa was very professional, gentle and friendly . She explained what she was doing as she was doing it. No worries about what she was going to do! The hair color turned out fabulous, so much so that I actually took some pictures to post. I asked for a few layers in the back tapered a bit longer in the front. It is completely uneven. Michael styled it to make it look okay when I left, but the first time I straightened on my own I noticed how bad it was. Literally INCHES short on one side. How he could not see that was concerning enough for me to leave a review. Groupon is a good deal, but not if you're getting a cut-rate stylist :/ read more

Restoration had a special my freshmen year at DePaul - free haircut for your first visit to the salon. My poor self nearly jumped with joy after hearing this - my hair hadn't been cut in months and it was looking pretty bad. I went to Kelly and she did an excellent job on my hair - I felt like a brand new person. A few months later I came back to the salon and found a new stylist, Corinne. Corinne gave me amazing cuts and colors, and I really liked how much fun she was to talk to. But, when she left the salon, I left too. I have been going to Julie Perrott for years and followed her from Salon Blonde to Restoration. She is THE best. From cut and color to elaborate styles (she did my wedding hair), Julie is a true expert. But what I really love is that she takes the time to listen to me and takes into account that I'm pretty low maintenance when it comes to styling. So she always gives me a cut that doesn't need a lot of day-to-day work, but still looks awesome. I get so many compliments on my hair after a visit to the salon! I purchased a Groupon for both a women's haircut and a no-chip manicure. The price for the Groupons were a steal and I was able to quickly get in for an appointment, for which I was pleased. I left content with my haircut - I am not hard to please in that regard. In terms of the no-chip manicure, I was left slightly disappointed. The color selection was limited and lacking and the manicurist did just an "okay" job. The manicure did not last me more than 3-4 days before it chipped multiple times, unfortunately. Overall, fine quality for a decent price, but I wouldn't have been thrilled had I paid full price. read more

Got a gilt city deal for a no chip manicure so figured I would try it. Manicure experience itself was good, Uka I think her name is provides a good manicure experience and the salon itself was nice and clean and people were nice. The 2 stars is for manicure quality - I got the no chip exactly a week ago and it's supposed to last 2 weeks at the least and the pointer and thumb literally came off. Like completely lifted and came Off in one piece. Other nails are starting to lift on the edges too. I'm very disappointed because I've gotten no chip manicures at many different places, including salons that are less expensive (without considering the gilt deal that is) that have lasted me 3-4 weeks. I didn't even get a week and now I have two missing nails and need to get the rest of the nails removed since it looks unprofessional to have two completely gone nails. Very disappointed. read more

Jitthida rocked my head like no one else ever has. I've had attempts at coloring before, but because I've got a head full of very thick and very black hair, it's next to impossible to get it right. Jitthida obviously knows how to work asian hair and I couldn't be any happier. She's very personable and happy and that makes for a great experience. She's got a great 'bedside' manner and she makes certain that what you want is what you're getting. The product she used was perfect as it kept my panels a bright blue for longer than I expected. (If you've got Asian or black hair, you'll know what I mean!). The salon is a cute and cozy rustic type salon with a touch of modern upkeep so it's quite comfortable. I LOVE the mirrors!! My stylist moved to different state so I needed to find new hairstylist and friend of mine suggested Salon 9nb. Nick did an amazing job and colored my hair with the exact color that I wanted. He was very nice, polite and took his time to make sure I got the color i really wanted. I love my hair color and getting compliments from everyone around me everyday. Also got my nails done with Uka and she did a wonderful job. She was very polite, quick and talented. My manicure usually last for a week but hers lasted for long time and still looked great after 2.5 weeks. Price was reasonable and they serve wine which is a HUGE plus! I see Christy Meservy at Restoration Salon and I am always happy with the cut, style and conversation. She owns her own salon chair so she does her own appointments. She's very professional, accessible and smart. I hardly ever go in with a preference and she always has great ideas. She's also affordable, about $65 for a cut and style without any attitude. She used to work at Salon 1800 on Armitage. I'm Asian, so no surprise, my hair is straight, and thick. 2 of my friends see her too. One has fine, wavy hair and the other has thick wavy hair. All of us are very happy. When I was getting ready to get married, she had a lot of helpful tips about the proper length of my hair and advice on how to style it. I just got a sub par no-chip manicure here from Uke and I won't be back. She was really rude. Not friendly whatsoever when I tried to make conversation so it went on in silence. Then she saw that I wasn't pleased with my nails. Offered no solution. Saw me scrutinizing them and snarkily said, "Is there a problem?" I replied about seeing lines in the polish to which she responded nothing. She hastily finished me up and clearly wanted me out of there. True I had been ten minutes late, but I called on the way. I told the receptionist I had a bad experience and my technician was rude and had a really bad attitude so I wouldn't be returning. She just said, "Oh" and seemed shocked I was so blunt but offered no remedies. I still tipped 10%, though I normally leave 20-30%. I see why they need to offer Groupons! Dennis is the frikkin best. I cannot tell you how wonderful it is to be able to get a great cut and fantastic color in 1.5 hours flat. Seriously, I know some people enjoy sitting in salons for 3 hours while they are slowly pampered....but I'm not that girl. And Dennis knows how to read his customers. Because of this, he's the only stylist that can get me back into the salon in less than 10 weeks, time and time again. A minor miracle. Dennis does both blond AND brunette coloring extremely well. And trust me, not all of them can. So go see him! It'll be worth breaking up with your old hair dresser, I promise. :) read more

After a little research and poking around I bought a deal off of GroupOn for a cut, condition, and dry and was BLOWN AWAY by how great my experience was from beginning to end. The lovely receptionist who received my call was so accommodating and fit me in on a Saturday! When I arrived the place was so beautiful and clean, I was helped immediately, and with barely any wait time at all, consulted by my stylist. My wash and condition was heavenly and I was so impressed by the mini scalp massage. Nick, the owner was my stylist and he was incredible. He knew exactly what to do to enhance my natural hair's beauty! My cut is exactly what I wanted and I have gotten a million compliments already and I just left not too long ago. It was a last minute/have to get in today type of appointment and luckily Nick (the owner) was able to accommodate me. I've been getting my grays done for many years, so I always explain what I've learned works for my very color resistant hair - smaller brush application as well as smaller sections are key. Some colorists in the past wind up just slapping on the color. Nick did not. He genuinely listens and produces the results I was looking for. He has become my go-to colorist. Walked in the door to welcoming staff and a very clean salon. I had a Groupon for full highlights, cut, wash, deep conditioning, and blow-dry. It was my first experience at this salon. Cynthia was my stylist and she was fabulous. I was overdue for hair styling and my hair was a mess. She styled it wonderfully so that I could wear it without blow drying as well as with blow drying. The highlights she gave me were perfect. I paid more to have lowlights put in with the highlights. I was thrilled. My hair looks so much better and I've received compliments. I am very picky when it comes to getting my hair colored. I have had good (not great) experiences, until I came to see Charles M. I am a blonde, and I came in thinking I wanted a single color platinum process, little did I know highlights AND low lights were in my near future and I am so happy I chose that route. At first I was weary about the low lights (as many blondes are) but they were essential in bringing a slight contrast and new dimension to my hair. Charles transformed my hair from a dull, flat, brassy blonde to a shiny, glowing, multi-dimensional masterpiece. Charles not only turned my hair from drab to fabulous, but he explained exactly what he was doing along the way. He is extremely knowledgeable about the science behind the products he uses. Kate is an AMAZING Professional Makeup Artist! My mom and I just had our appointments with Kate for a wedding-day makeup test-run, and I am seriously SO happy that Kate is doing my makeup for my wedding day...I am so thankful that I met her. My mom and I felt the prettiest that I think either of us ever have after Kate was finished with our makeup. I have had my makeup done professionally in the past and never liked it (I always washed it off and did it myself) -- I am so picky about my makeup, but I was seriously blown away when I looked at myself in the mirror after Kate was done - she is truly gifted and I felt so pretty! The first time I went here for a manicure the service was slow, and the quality of my manicure was average. I live a few houses away from this place, so I REALLY wanted to like it, and decided to give it another try. I stopped in to make an appointment and waited ten minutes without anyone acknowledging me so I walked out. I've called twice since to make an appointment and both times there were no appointments within the next three days (they only have one person who does manicures). You should either get more manicurists or give up that side of your business because I'm tired of being disappointed. Don't waste your time with this place. read more

don't get me wrong - i love my stylist, Mary. she's worked in the fashion biz for years and she gave me one of the best haircuts i've ever had. (considering i have very thick, curly hair that's a huge compliment.) but i just have a few issues with the salon, itself. it's a small space and the team dynamic there can be a little ... 'All About Eve.' sometimes, the focus isn't on customer service or making you feel welcome. you know, when a girl is getting a blowout and there's a lot of steam because of heat meeting product, don't make a huge production of opening the windows and waving your hand in front of your face. totally *not cool.* that happened to me two years ago and it made me so mad i've since gone secretly to other (more expensive) stylists in the city so i can avoid them (though i miss my stylist M. a lot.) some people might like a healthy serving of 'bitchy' with their customer service, but i don't. read more

I came in with a groupon for a no-chip mani and paid for a pedicure to go along with it. The staff was nice and offered tea. The space downstairs was relaxing. The two stars comes from the quality of the mani/pedi. It has been a week and I already need to get a fresh no chip mani. I was disappointed right after walking out, but waited a week to see if I would change my mind. There were only two coats put onto my nails which has led to an inconsistent color and it is peeling off. The pedicure wasn't great either and the polish has chipped off on some nails. Most pedicures last me over a month! I paid double (even with the groupon) than I paid the last time I got a no chip mani/pedi and it is not even close to the same quality. The color that I initially chose had glitter in it and she double checked if I wanted to switch it out before starting the mani, super considerate, I didn't even realize it when I grabbed the polish! The manicure itself was a super relaxing experience and she was very detailed with it. She even asked me if I'd like an extra coat since the polish I ended up with was quite sheer (it definitely made all the difference!) That manicure went on to last over 3/4 weeks I think! I came here to redeem my Gilt City voucher and was taken downstairs to a very tranquil spot for my mani and pedi, where it looks like only these services are offered down on this floor. Two ladies work here, and one of them was my nail lady Uka. She is pretty quiet but asks the important questions like if the water is ok and how I want my nails shaped. If you are looking for a chatty kathy, she wouldn't be the right fit for you. I enjoyed the peace and quiet and actually didn't even check my phone the whole time until my nails were drying. The mani and pedi were really good. She gives good massages, and I just wished they last longer. She actually covers the nails very thoroughly and I'm usually pretty picky about this because some don't paint the nail to the very edges on the side and I find that very annoying. Came here in hopes of chopping my long hair to something more manageable. It has gotten dry and tangly, so I wanted something cut to armpit length. We discussed cutting it tapered (shorter in back), keeping it at armpit length, dyeing my hair to blend in my roots with the lighter ends while preserving highlights, and layers with a more sharp edgy ends than rounded for a more messy look. In the end, my hair was cut above my SHOULDER, colored nearly black and in one flat color (goodbye beautiful highlights...), and styled to flip out at my shoulders. It looked TERRIBLE. I had 6 inches cut off and was charged extra for the chemicals used, even though my hair was cut so short. The owner also warned against using a razor to cut to get the nice sharp layers, because it causes damage and split ends. He told me he had a lot of experience, so he used the razor. When my hair finally got longer (about 1.5 months later), I am able to see a ton of nasty split ends (they're split at multiple sites on a single strand). I believe this is due to his razor blade technique, which is really disappointing. Throughout the whole process, he was super excited and had nonstop compliments, trying to convince me about how amazing my new hair looked. One star for customer service and decent atmosphere.... would not come back unfortunately read more
