NO MOE... Does she do Asian hair? The really straight thick stuff? Absolutely. Ann Riordan is a meticulous professional that knows how to cut superb hair. Being an Asian man with the typical jet black straight hair, I run into the danger of having the haircut I have turn into one of four looks the next day: The "Uni" - Japanese for sea urchin, where every hair sticks up like spiked ball (made commercially famous by Kevin Bacon in the movie 'Footloose') or The "Moe" - see Three Stooges, where the hair lays straight and looks like someone cut your hair by putting a bowl on your head and cutting the excess or The "Jackie Chan" - See any of his movies from the 70s ONLY, like Drunken Master. It's an Asian Dorothy Hamil/Bruce Jenner in the 70s on the Wheaties box look (look them up) The "CLONK" (Current Leader of North Korea) - you all know the look - shaved sides, tapered from the short top, makes a round face look even chubbier and pinchable, which causes you to overreact with a nuclear emotional option due to heightened sense of insecurity; definitely not good for scoring with the chicks - unless the chick's family is in a work camp that you run - and would never allow you to be mistaken for George Clooney. Ever. After you wash it, you can NEVER style it back to what the stylist did. As a stylist, Ann is a professional in cutting and styling Asian hair. She can shape the hair to look soft or allow a "convertible" professional look by day, club look by night. Even with a long cut, you don't get a Jackie Chan, unless you ask for it. She matches your cut with the shape of your face, and in winter and summer, the cut changes due to the season. She can give you anything from an innovative contemporary look, to a clean, job interview look, with no hint of a recent trip with Dennis Rodman. The salon also provides the latest in hairstyling products which are a great alternative to your standard gel. I admit I have tried other stylists who claim to have experience with straight hair. I have even had a haircut in an Asian country, and THERE I got a "Moe" and more recently, a "CLONK". She has been cutting my hair for 10+ years, and after every experiment, every "so what if they don't speak english, they're asian" cut recommendation, I always come back - hat on head - and beg for her hair salvation. I would have her on staff if I could. Here is a great example. Let the very recent pics do the talking...

Ann - I will follow her to the ends of the earth if I have to. She just moved over to Stranded and I couldn't be happier for her. The salon itself is industrial chic with a comfortable neighborhood feel. Everyone is so genuine and nice! Ann is very talented and knowledgeable. I've seen her work magic for women (and men) with curly hair and thick hair. Everyone I send her way becomes a regular client. She's just so good. I have strait thin hair and the way she cuts and colors it always makes it look so full and vibrant. She is very talented with complicated colors, styles, and the best blow out I've ever had. She can even do vintage hair styles! Ann is very patient, kind, and professional. Every time I leave her chair I get tons of compliments from strangers on the street, friends and family! I'll never go to anyone else.

Hair cut and color by Ann! So much fun with fall colors.

I cannot say enough good things about Lira Hair Salon. I came in after a disastrous visit to a…read moreso‑called "blonde specialist" who completely ruined my hair while trying to take me from brunette to blonde. My hair was damaged, uneven, and honestly I was scared to try again. Lira changed everything. She not only helped me achieve the blonde I originally wanted, but she did it in a way that protected my hair and brought it back to life. My color looks beautiful, natural, and exactly how I envisioned it. Even better--my hair is actually growing back and feeling healthy again. Lira is truly a master of her craft. She listens, she cares, and she knows exactly what she's doing. If you're thinking about going blonde or need someone to fix a color gone wrong, she's the one you want in your corner. Absolutely worth every visit.

First I will start with what was good…read more 1. The dye job ended up beautiful. I came in with pretty unclear instructions and reference photos and both the stylist and the owner were able to figure out what fit my needs. This seems to be a huge strength here. 2. They were able to fit me in last minute. What was bad 1. The total time listed online was 1.45 hours, the service ended up taking 2.45 hours. I have been to many salons and never had my hair take that long, especially when I was getting all over color and a blowout (no haircut). Perhaps this was due to me booking last minute. However, the website booking made it look wide open and I think it is the responsibility of the salon to accurately represent their booking capability. I would not have booked with them had I known what experience was to follow. 2. The salon overall seemed overbooked and people were bouncing around. Three different people worked on my hair. Personally, I really didn't like this set up. I like to build a relationship with my stylist and this hectic atmosphere was not synonymous with that 3. The blowout I had was so uncomfortable. The rollers were tangled up in my hair and I could feel it ripping out as the stylist took them out. I have never have a blowout be so painful. My hair had so many split ends after I looked in the mirror at home. 4. My hair fell the moment I stepped outside. Granted it was a windy day, but my hair doesn't typically fall that fast. I think this may have been due to the stylist rushing at the end. On one hand I'm glad she did because I had been sitting alone for quite some time, but on the other hand I paid for essentially nothing. My old stylist back home (moved cross country) had no problem giving me a blowout that lasted at least a few hours. Even on windy days. 5. At one point the owner took my stylist in the back and seemed to be scolding her. This is never something a new client wants to see. I immediately felt anxious that something had gone wrong with my hair color. It ended up great but tbh experience was awkward and handled strangely in my opinion. 6. Finally. The price came out to $260 for all over color and a blowout. I wouldn't mind this price if it wasn't for the lackluster experience. Hair salons are charging luxury prices without offering luxury experiences. The pricing structure is also strange. They charge $60 extra for toner but I have never had a color job that didn't need toner to look good. It feels strange to not include it all together. The toner charge was added after which was a surprise because toner has always been included in the price. To be clear, the website did ask if I wanted to add toner for $60. I thought that was for someone coming in looking just to tone and not add more color. Perhaps this was my mistake but I found the whole pricing structure strange. A few other things to note: water was offered but never given and they only accept cash/zelle/venmo tips. Overall this salon was not a fit for me. A lot of this is subjective preference but I think it's important that people understand what environment they are paying for when they sign up to spend hundreds. That being said, the color was beautiful and I am grateful for that.

I usually see Emad for my cut, color, and blowout, and he is SO kind and incredibly talented. He's truly the best hairstylist I've ever been to. My blowouts last for days, which is why I always book with him before trips. It saves me from worrying about styling my hair or packing my Dyson. I've also referred several friends, and they are just as obsessed with Emad and the team as I am. Everyone I've encountered at the salon has been so professional and kind. I also wanted to add, in response to a Yelp review mentioned below, that I've personally never encountered a language barrier with any of the staff. But if you do, tools like Google Translate on your phone can make communication easy. You really can't go wrong with this place!

Jay is fantastic too. Emad created/mixed the hair color and Jay applied it, and washed my hair and got me ready for the haircut. She is so nice and I really enjoyed our conversation. Beautiful and spacious salon. Welcoming atmosphere and positive vibes.
