Kelly has dyed my hair and given it the Keratin Complex Treatment and every time, I am in love with my hair and the finished product. I have dull, red, and frizzy hair. Kelly finds a way to make it look vibrant and smooth every time. She is a very skilled stylist who will make you fall in love with your hair all over again. Great salon! I drive from the 'burbs to come here. I've been seeing Rachel here for a few years now. She's awesome - she really understands what works best for my hair. I usually get a cut and/or balayage. I always get a lot of compliments on my hair. Rachel is very knowledgeable and makes good recommendations for my hair. She is so sweet and getting my hair done is always a pleasant experience! The salon itself is clean and tidy, everyone is friendly. It's very easy to schedule appointments and they do a good job of not having a lot of people in the salon at once, due to covid. Definitely recommend coming to see Rachel! read more

My daughter and I both had color done and the results were beyond both of our expectations. I was pretty nervous about doing something so dramatic (going from grey to pink) but it was clear that Shelly and Lupita knew their $*&% and put me totally at ease. And they absolutely crushed it! Update: Shelly, the owner, did leave me a voicemail after seeing my review and offered me the opportunity to come back in and see another stylist free of charge to remedy what had happened and explained that they guarantee all of their work and of course would want me to feel comfortable with my hair. I really appreciated the gesture and although of course I was hesitant to do so and felt incredibly awkward (and bad- I didn't want to get anyone in trouble), I really did need it fixed. I saw Megan last weekend who immediately acknowledged that what I had on my head was not balayage or the color I wanted, or similar to the pictures I showed her and what I wanted was easily achievable. She was super friendly, really fun to talk to, and helped ease the situation and within 2 hours had colored my hair to the exact tone I had originally wanted, with the exact placement, no foils necessary, no bleach, nothing. She even trimmed some split ends and freshened up the front layers. Although I still can't help but be frustrated with the time and damage my hair had to go through originally, I'm really grateful for Megan and Shelly for fixing it and finally feel happy looking in the mirror! read more

Absolutely amazing! I went in with the worst hair cut I have ever gotten and came out with a great cut that was well thought out, planned out, and done right. I specifically requested Kelly because I had read the reviews and had seen her work on instagram. I am so glad that I did- believe the hype, it's true. I came in with what can only be described as a blotchy, blunt, two-length bob and came out with a styled haircut that is layered and will grow out nicely. Since I was traumatized I asked all my questions and listened to Kelly's suggestions. She was thoughtful and listened to my concerns before even picking up any scissors. How great is that? Someone who listens to what you want and then works to give it to you? Awesome! The space is lofty and comfortable with free water, coffee, and tea. Nomobo is perfection! Samantha, who is sadly no longer at this salon, gave me one of the best haircuts of my entire life. She is a queen with razor cuts! I asked for choppy, texturized, layers with long layered side bangs and she did a wonder on my hair! Most people stay away from razor cuts because it thins out your hair so you really have to want that look and not be afraid to jump into it. Samantha took her time with this cut and I especially enjoyed her talking me through every step of the way. She was so friendly and helpful unlike other salons where you're left clueless as they chop away. The finished style she gave me had textured beach curls with straight ends. She showed me how versatile the look could be. While down and straight it took on a very jagged and edgy appearance or when curled, romantic locks. Her price starts at $75 for a cut not including wash or blow dry or gratuity. Yes, it was a huge splurge for me, but if you don't get haircuts frequently, or want a veteran in the hair industry to work their magic on you, then def come to Nomobo! The ambiance is minimal industrial but I felt right at home because they were playing one of my favorite bands Coco Rosie on Pandora! That automatically granted them brownie points in my book! Kelly has been doing my hair for almost a decade now! She's the only person I trust with my long/wavy hair. She's taken me from natural ashy brown with highlights and lowlights, to blonde and back to my natural color over the years; through every phase, people have always asked me about my color and cut. My hair has never looked damaged or over-processed and best of all, she's never pressured me to cut my long hair short and has helped me keep it healthy. That's super important to me because I think a lot of other long-haired girls have had nightmares about getting chopped at the salon by a new stylist! Kelly is good at communicating what she's doing and won't trick you into doing more than what you're intending. I have never felt more comfortable with Kelly than at Nomobo because it's a very relaxed atmosphere without all of the pretentiousness of uptight salons that make you feel like you're being stared at in every mirror while you're there. You don't feel like you're being shuffled off from area to area at all. Compared to previous salons, I like that this place isn't as chaotic and loud. Sam is everything I could want in a stylist. In fact, four and a half years running, she's the only stylist I've ever returned to year over year. She makes me EXCITED about my hair... haircuts used to be a point of dread and anxiety for me, but no longer. I've thrown a lot of scenarios at her over the years... helping me grow out a buzzcut (it's not pretty work), making pixies un-boring, making bobs non-mom-like (thus the salon name). I can come to her with a specific vision (she loves browsing a well-curated haircut pinterest page) or, as I usually do, come to her with NO clue what I want. Regardless, her cuts always come out better than I was picturing in my head. Plus, as a lady with short hair styles who is also painfully spend-thrifty, I used to dread how OFTEN I had to get my hair cut. With Sam, I'm either so excited to get my new look, I'm happy to pay the dollars, or, what never ceases to amaze me: Sam's haircuts keep looking amazing as they grow out month over month. I'm on month 5 of my last cut, where she lopped off the sides and kept the top long. I still get a compliment on the cut once a week, TWENTY WEEKS after the cut. Really disappointed. I asked for my hair to be strawberry blonde from brown (which I have been before) and dying my whole head to the blonde like I asked for & showed photos of (old photos of myself with that color a year ago) the stylist decided to do whatever she wanted. I asked for no brown to be left in my hair and she basically just added highlights. That is not what I asked. This is not what I wanted. $300 later. It's horribly upsetting. read more

I have been getting my hair done by Meagan for many years and am so proud to call her my stylist. She knows I tend to be a little over bearing when it comes to my hair, and has saved me many a time when i want a 'change'. Meagan is honest and caring, not to mention a good listener, and really knows how to translate the picture i bring in of the latest 'do i want (they have ranged from paris hilton to selena gomez to mandi moore, wow i am not proud of these), into my style and taste. she takes her time to make sure the style is what i was after with my sad example, and shows me how to style it to get it juuuusst right. I'm pretty picky about my hair and once it got too gray to control I was ready to experiment but terrified of finding a good hair stylist since none have ever truly listened to me in the past. Kelly did balayage on me which grew out perfectly over a year and she did my roots in between. She also trims my hair (first time in about 15 years it's gaining length thanks to her cutting skills) and does my keratin treatments. I have no clue what I would do without her, my hair was a disaster of unruly pubic like curls with a pile of gray hairs on top that I often hid by wearing my hair in a ponytail or bun. I love Nomobo!! First, allow me to rave about my stylist, Kelly! About a year ago, after slumming it at Supercuts for FAR too long, I decided to go see a top notch stylist. I polled my Facebook friends about their favorite salons, and Kelly's name came up multiple times. I originally saw her at a Robert Jeffrey, but when she made the move to Nomobo, I had no doubts about following her there. Kelly is truly fabulous! She helped me find the perfect layered look I had been seeking, she does a terrific job with my color (damn you, gray hairs!), and my hair looks healthier and shinier than it has in years. I get a lot of compliments on my hair these days! Kelly never pushes products on me, but I end up buying them because: 1) I am a product junkie. 2) The stuff they sell is awesome! I have been using Moroccan Oil shampoo and conditioner, as well as several Kevin Murphy styling products, and my hair is oh-so happy! Kelly is also really sweet, laid back, and funny! She is very responsive to my hair concerns and questions, she remembers our past conversations, and she's just an all-around cool chick! I always enjoy my time with her. Now onto the salon itself. The place is really chic and intimate...semi-industrial and modern in design, but warm and inviting at the same time. When I moved to Chicago I endured a series of awful hair cuts until a friend suggested I pay Kelly a visit and I have never looked back. When Kelly moved to Nomobo, I cyber stalked her, found her, and made an appointment the very next day even though she is all the way out in Wicker Park now. Kelly is amazing! She developed the concept of the baby trim for me because I'm terrified of getting my hair cut after several traumatizing experiences with other over zealous hair stylists. She has also saved me from several poor hair decisions like the day I thought I wanted bangs! She is also really great when it comes to scheduling me last minute. I just moved to Chicago, so I was in need of a new stylist. I go to barbers for clipper cuts, but was looking for someone a little more precise for scissor work on the top of my head. She was very nice and did a great cut. It can be terrifying trusting your head to an unknown person, but I was really happy with the results. It was definitely worth $45. I just signed up for Yelp to share this information. There are a lot of positive reviews on here and it's unfortunate that I have to ruin that, but here goes: I followed one of the girls from their old salon to Nomobo. I'd had my hair cut there once or twice, and now several times at this location. The haircuts were okay or better, depending on the instance. I had a few quibbles here and there, but I figured this would be where I got my hair cut for at least the near future. When I visited about a week and a half ago, everything seemed to be normal. A few days later, someone asked me what was on the back of my head. I had no idea what they were talking about, and disregarded it. When a second person confirmed that there was an odd rash under my hair and it started itching like crazy, I figured I should go to the doctor. I had a suspicion, but tried not to jump to conclusions, as I had a couple ideas running through my mind. But, when one of the very first things that the doctor asked me was, "Have you had a haircut recently?" then she and I both knew what was up. Interestingly enough, this last haircut was the first time I had to pay Nomobo's new and higher price. To me, over $50 is quite a lot for a haircut, especially when it comes with the added bonus of RINGWORM. That's right, I contracted tinea capitis at Nomobo Salon. In addition to paying for the doctor visit, I had to pay for some pretty strong antifungal medication. This haircut is getting more and more expensive, and I get to pay for and experience having blood drawn in a couple weeks, too. There's a threat of getting jaundice from this whole ordeal. Once the doctor figured out what happened, my mind was able to start focusing on determining when during the haircut I could have come into contact with my new, very small friends. I have a few ideas, but I'll never know for sure. What I do know is that they can raise the prices all they want to make the new salon thrive as a business, but until they can start practicing safe hygiene practices this is a doomed enterprise.
