Every review starts with horrible hair. Haha ‍ I was a brunette turned balayage blonde because of, you know, a guy. Then the salon I went to bleached my hair with product so bad that my hair essentially turned into a bird nest made out of grass. Dry, endless tangles, and brassy. I went to solo Solon back in 2018 and booked an appointment with Joey. It was probably the best 5 hours spent - Joey was sooooo patient with my stubborn asian hair, and needless to say, I looked fabulous. Soon after Joey moved to another salon, I followed him to keep up with my hair appointments. There's never been any disappointment or anything less than positive experience with Joey. I would say "I think my hair needs some touch up", and Joey would say "oh yes it does, hon". And you will be in good hands. And by good hands, I mean you will be so pleasantly surprised by how you look right afterwards, a little surprised and trying to get used to the new look. But then 3 days later you look into the mirror and you're like, oh jeez why do I look so good????? The coloring is so multidimensional - I've gotten so many compliments for my hair. I broke up with above-mentioned guy in June, and I went to see Joey again. "I want a change because I'm back on the market," I said. "I think maybe I want to go brunette again." Joey looked at me and said, "my dear, let's lighten you up this time because of the things you're going through. It's a touch time and darker tone will only weigh you down." That moment I felt like Joey truly cares, that he takes care of not only my hair or my looks, but my soul (really). Fast forward to January 2020, Joey moved to Fusion Hair Studio, and I had my appointment with him again. I always walked out with the happiest, most genuine smile on my face, thanks to Joey. I've been coming to see Amy every month for 8+ years! This is their new location and it is awesome! It was a great move as it no longer has the foot traffic of Wrigleyville like it use to. Big perk that it is now located right next door to a small liquor store and two doors down from Pony Inn! All the ladies that work here are really nice. Amy (who also owns the place) knows exactly how a guy wants his hair, BUT she is really good at giving you her own opinion to make you look extra sharp! (It's always good to have a ladies opinion on it..right?) Dude....don't be fooled into thinking this is a "salon". It's a studio! Well worth the transition from your typical barber. Amanda Moss Brostek is my go to hair STYLIST for the past nine years. I have followed her religiously because she is simply the best. She is my hair styling goddess/therapist/doctor all in one!! She knows exactly what to do with my hair and I not only trust her with my hair, but my daughter, sisters, mother and best girlfriends!! To recap - Amanda has done my color, cuts, and styles for everything ranging from my engagement photos, wedding, post-wedding chop, maternity styles, professional bobs/lobs, and mommy friendly styles! I just realized I've never written a review for Fusion, which is insane, because they are amazing. Maybe I've subconsciously wanted to keep Aimee my little secret! I've been going here for 4-ish (?) years now... I admit I was too cheap to get a 'real' haircut prior to this (In my defense, I grew up in So-Ill, where my haircuts were always $14, so the Chicago sticker shock got me!), but I finally decided that since I had a big-girl job, I should get myself a big-girl haircut. A friend recommended Aimee to me & as long as I live here, I'll keep going to her. I don't get a cut as often as I should, but every time I do, I leave feeling like a million bucks! After several months of debating on whether to go lighter or not I finally decided to "go for it". No the hard part began; looking for a stylist! Well, after filtering through stylist after stylist I found Jennifer and I am so glad that I did. She knows what she's doing and will talk you through the steps and make sure that you really understand what she's saying (and not just agreeing to everything she's saying). Look through her IG page and you will see the great work she does. I decided to do a light/blonde bayalage which will take two sessions (originally though it would take 3) to complete as I have thick really dark brown hair. I finished with the first and the second will be next week and I left the salon LOVING my hair even after the 1st session (which is usually know to be the "ugly session"). Looking forward to the 2nd session. Jennifer is an absolute gem and I highly recommend scheduling your next appointment with her! read more

Let me just start off with the fact that Aimee, the owner, came in on her day off, DAY OFF, to help fix my hair emergency. The day before I had gone to my old salon wanting to change my dark red hair back to its original dirty with blonde with ombre. To make a long story short, the other salon destroyed my hair turning it into a dark, dark brown on the top and an awful yellow bottom- no blending just a straight line. I came into Fusion because of a recommendation from my cousin. Aimee took the time to explain all of my options to fix it. She was so sweet and professional. She made me feel so comfortable with endless conversations and even made me tea and coffee (which were delicious). After three hours the end result was AMAZING. My hair is now healthy and an absolutely breathtaking blonde ombre. I am planning on returning within the next two weeks to have her do my extensions. I have officially found my new hair home. Aimee is thee BEST colorist I have ever had and simply the nicest owner as well. I highly recommend her for any hair need. Melissa, another stylist that was working is also a sweetheart. She helped in deciding what was best for me. Needless to say I am the happiest woman in the world with my hair and can't wait to have Aimee do my extensions. Aimee is simply too cool for words. I knew I was long overdo for a cut, so she got me in before I had to leave on a business trip. (Which I appreciated immensely). I currently live in the LA area but I fly out to Chicago once every quarter for work. Five years ago, on one of my trips I was in need of a haircut before a meeting and Aimee was recommended to me. Where do I begin?! I found Melissa through a Yelp review when I first moved to Chicago nearly 10 years ago. I had an aversion to dyeing my hair due to a horrible experience with box dye when I was younger. After my first appointment with Melissa, I knew it was the start of a fantastic friendship! Melissa has an extensive background as a colorist and after numerous appointments and conversations, I knew I could trust her to take my hair to the next level. When I first met her, my thick, wavy hair was as short as my chin. Over the years, with the help of her extraordinary styling abilities, it's now grown as far as the middle of my back. Not to mention, I didn't have to deal with any of that awkward "triangle hair" as my hair grew in length. She was able to foresee exactly how my hair grows and she cut it in layers that complimented my face shape even when I was overdue for a trim. Fast forward a few years and I finally had the courage to try color. She delivered my first ombre like it was the easiest thing she had ever attempted. I have never had so many compliments on my hair! Even strangers compliment me on a regular basis! I can even go a year+ without a touch-up and the way she's incorporated the color into my layers, the ombre is still as visible as it was the first day she colored me! I've done the ombre an additional two times and she nails my color request on the first try without fail. Want more caramel? More blonde? DONE. I tell everyone I know I would never trust anyone else with my color. If I ever leave the city, I will totally make a point to coordinate appointments with her when I return to visit my family. Not kidding. She's a wonderful person with an exceptional talent and I HIGHLY recommend her services. (Although, I'm not kidding when I say it pains me to write this review because I want to keep her a secret so I can always schedule appointments without her calendar being crazy full!) I originally visited Aimee about 6 years ago when she operated her business on Clark St., after my friend Traci referred her to me. I have never let anyone else touch my hair since for good reasons! She has transformed my hair over the years and thoroughly understands what I like, what I dislike and what is good for me! I trust Aimee wholeheartedly that she will leave me walking out feeling like a new woman! Aimee will either conduct a touch-up and cut on my hair or a full-fledged highlight session (we rotate based on need) in which case she mixes a couple colors and it always turns out fabulously! as a woman of Jewish heritage, I have what can only be described as a "jew-fro"...and with the humidity...well...it was a jew-frizz regardless to length or lack there of. Aimee and I talked about the Brazilian Blowout for shorter hair and how it would make my hair easy to manage and that I could even grow it out if I wanted. So...we did this yesterday...and I am so happy!! My hair has NEVER, EVER been straight and shiny and sleek...and on shorter hair like mine... it gives my style that "edgy" "modern" and youthful appearance that I wanted so badly (me not wanting that little old lady curl that happens so frequently with short hair)...My hair feels great...it's shiny and easy to style and keep styled all day long. I found Fusion and Aimee Collins on Yelp. What a great find! I was looking for a place that is close to home (in this case right across the street), and was worried that unless I could make it down to Oak Street and pay a ton of money, I wouldn't find someone who could help me. Aimee is terrific! From the very first visit, she has worked with me to figure out what is best for my hair, that is now changing, since I am getting older. Rather than talk me into very expensive highlights, lowlights, etc., she helped me see that a darker color and less extra stuff will work perfectly. She is always willing to experiment with me, but helps me see what is best, while not upselling or trying to get me to add services that I don't need. Her haircuts are also top quality.....I get more compliments on my cut and color now more than ever! Aimee is also just fun to spend time with and going to the salon is an enjoyable experience.
