Let me start by saying that I'm extremely picky when it comes to who does my hair. I rarely even get it cut because I don't trust anyone! Well, I finally found someone I can trust! Andrea is absolutely amazing! She cut my hair last month, listened to what I wanted and offered her own insight which helped so much. I left feeling amazing! Holy cow! I never used to like getting my haircut. In fact, when I lived in the suburbs, I would usually leave the hairdresser with tears in my eyes. I was someone who never liked change and every time I got my haircut, it felt like something I was forced to do and never something I wanted to do. Moving into the city, I went a whole year (well, 14 months) without a haircut. That's a long time and I looked...less than put together at work. I was incredibly nervous about finding a new hairdresser. I turned to Yelp and Aria looked like one of the best options and it was in my area. I went in with an idea in mind--a drastic change (for me). I had always had long, dirty blonde, pin straight hair. I wanted to go for a dark brown bob with bangs. I was uncomfortable and second guessing myself like you wouldn't believe. However, I went in and Ryan (the color specialist at Aria) walked me through the whole process and did a couple of things for me: 1) He listened to what I wanted 2) He told me what he thought would be good with my face shape and why 3) He explained what he was doing to my hair every step of the way. I came out not only happy with my cut and color, but taking selfies all down the street because I was so excited to show everyone. It's a clean, professional cut that also has a lot of personality. I brought pictures the first time and AJ delivered while honestly telling me that I had a few more months to go before some of my layers would grow out and I could achieve exactly what I was looking for. I appreciated that, instead of letting me just think he couldn't do what I asked. AJ (and Justin, when he was there too) are the only stylists (with the exception of Trixie Girl Blow Dry Bar) that can actually get a blowout to last more than 3 days for me. Upon arriving, my stylist, Rain, knew exactly who I was and greeted me. She then took my coat and lead me to my chair. We then talked about what I wanted to see in my hair, and she asked me some basic questions, and I showed her some pictures. I had Rain do a balayage on my hair. I spent 4 hours at Aria, and I can say my experience was great, and my results- are to die for. We had great conversation! Time was spent, attention to detail, and just care and tips were given about my hair, since I'm new to coloring. This place had great reviews and is a short walk from my apartment. I had just moved back to Chicago and was in the market for a haircut, so it seemed like a no-brainer... but I ended up with a cut I just did not like. (I tried really hard for two weeks but ultimately went back to get it fixed. The second time around, it was uneven and I had to trim it myself at home.) A little context: Some of this mess was my own fault, and I don't blame Aria entirely. I wanted an angled bob but bungled the request and asked for a graduated bob (which is totally unsuited to my hair type, as I've recently learned the hard way). I got a pretty drastic haircut without getting to know/trust the salon or stylist first. I didn't come armed with photos. All mistakes I recommend you not make. Three stars because they rushed the second cut and I still had to even it up at home. (They put me in for a bang trim when I'd asked for a complete fix, so the stylist had to give me the cut in 15 minutes. They gave me a small discount but it was still $50+, and I didn't have the option of going back later because my brother's wedding was the very next week. Yeah. Did I mention how awful the timing was?). So, to recap: 1) Know your hair vocabulary and ask for the right thing 2) Bring photos 3) Maybe get a trim and make sure you like the stylist before going all in on a new style 4) Don't go to a new salon two weeks before a family wedding! read more

I booked my second appointment at Aria about two weeks ago because my first experience was outstanding. I called to book and my stylist from before but she had moved back to her hometown in FL. I was bummed, but still got an appointment because I had faith in their work. All I wanted was a shape up haircut, keeping the style I had but wanted to keep the length and just make it look healthier. I'm guilty of waiting a long time between haircuts, so I think the stylist misunderstood what I wanted and I was not completely satisfied with my cut. I didn't want to say anything right away because I feel like you need to give a fresh cut a day or two to settle in before you say you don't like it. Especially when it's been awhile! (9+ months yikes!) I called back their next open business day (cut was Saturday, called back Tuesday) and explained the situation, and just asked if I could come back and have it fixed. The haircut was not cheap, and what I wanted changed would not add to the original price (wasn't color or anything just angles and layers to be honest), and the lady who answered the phone said the owner would reach out.... Well, the owner never reached out, and I'm not going to call back again and again to have these guys fix my hair, so due to their lack of acknowledgment of an unhappy repeat client, I will not be returning to Aria. All I wanted was for it to get fixed up, it wasn't anything crazy, but no one ever returned my call and there are hundreds of other options. So many more times than not, they are a great option, but that one time you are not totally satisfied, they do not show much care or concern for you. read more

I cannot find the words to express how happy I am with my hair cut ! AJ was my stylist for the day and he most definitely did a phenomenal job ! When I first arrived I was greeted by him and he was very friendly then I sat down in the chair of awesomeness and he began to ask me my hair routine questions. I went to see Ryan after receiving a friend's recommendation to visit Aria and purchasing a Yelp deal. He was knowledgeable yet casual and after taking a good look at my hair and listening closely to what I wanted he gave me a thorough diagnosis and went to work. Back in March I purchased a "daily deal" to a salon that was pretty pricey normally. I left leaving with a bad haircut. I couldn't stand my hair any longer (drama!) so I went on Yelp and ranked salons by their Yelp Deals (of course haha) and their star rating. Aria pulled ahead to the top. Ironically, I live across the street from Aria and never even thought of going there. So I called and the nicest person answered the phone (Ryan) and told me that he's a pro at cutting long curly hair and not to worry about a bad haircut. He got me in right away the following day-Saturday. I arrived about 5 minutes late and had to probably wait another 20. NBD. The owner welcomed me, had seated me in a chair pronto, lemonade in one hand (with bendy straw!) and InStyle & Us Weekly in the other. Talk about service. Ryan pretty much confirmed that my last cut was a bad one, showing me all the uneven ends I had. He quickly fixed my hair and gave me the cut my hair deserved! I had been wanting to treat my mom to a beauty day for her birthday. I decided to book her appointment at Aria Salon to give it a try. A lot of salons around the Lakeview area only cater to the young, hip, etc. My mom is going to be 64 on her birthday. She's a super hip lady, but doesn't want a fad hair-cut. That being said, this salon is gorgeous. It is was clean and comfortable. As soon as we got there, Ryan was a huge help! He actually listened to everything my mom wanted to do to her hair that day. It showed that this salon could do trendy fun cuts and styles, but also do the traditional and age appropriate styles too. He gave her a gorgeous sandy blonde color, trimmed it, and did this magic thing where he curled it all up with a FLAT IRON! It was so fun to watch. Not only did my mom LOVE her hair-cut and experience there, but they were so nice to me too while I waited for her. They offered my mom and me some lemonade and let me sit next to her so we could chat while she got all beautified. I also met the owner, Anthony, then too. He introduced himself to us and was extremely friendly! Ryan did an incredible job that left my mom grinning so much and I could tell she felt fantastic! Our whole salon experience was great. This was my first time in Aria Salon. I called the day before my appointment and they were kind enough to fit me in, even though they initially said they were booked. Anthony did a great job on my color and blow dry. He listened and we agreed on color and it came out as expected. I am letting my hair grow a bit and plan to go back to Anthony for a haircut. A couple of small negatives - they had to call me back for an appointment and I prefer to get that settled in one call. They also do not have a website or publish their prices anywhere. Let me just start by saying that I have extremely long hair. Think Kardashian long. I am almost never satisfied when I leave a salon. I usually put my hair in a ponytail the second I get out of a salon and leave that way for the next few weeks till it grows out a bit. I have not cut my hair in almost a year. Typically I just want the stylist to cut my hair and let me read a magazine. Well Matina was so easy to talk to that we chatted the whole time. She didn't say a thing about getting my hair cut more often and didn't push products on me. We discussed teasing your hair and how to curl it properly. Without me asking her to do anything she started styling my hair. She teased it and showed me how to curl it and didn't charge me extra. My haircut was exactly what I wanted and she didn't take too much off like other stylists do. While I was paying she gave me an Aria Salon reusable tote bag and a coupon for the future. I walked into Aria one day, simply because it was in my neighborhood and I was desperately seeking a haircut. My curls had grown so unruly that wayward pigeons were helplessly becoming trapped in my tresses. Nasty. There I met the cutest and sweetest boy - Brian - who not only tamed my crazy curls, but he was so personable and easy going that I've been coming back ever since. That was more than three years ago. I love the salon - small and quirky. And if you have a penchant for 80's new wave (think Erasure) you will love the music. But it changes daily. I've been going to Aria for over a year. I had had a terrible experience at another place and thus hadn't had my hair cut in nearly a year and my hair was in sad shape. I made an appointment, waltzed in, loved the decor and sat down with Justin. I had no idea what to do with my hair, so I pointed at it, explained it was obvious I needed help, and let him do whatever he wanted to fix it. I gave no input and told him to do his thing. Well, he kept my hair long but completely fixed it up and re-shaped it. My hair looked gorgeous every time I went. I got my hair highlighted last April and had nothing but compliments after. In fact, everyone I met thought they were natural for me (I still have remnants of them and nobody thinks they're fake). I went there again last Friday after not having gone in quite awhile. Apparently Justin moved out of state. But seeing as how Aria still gets good reviews and I like the vibe in there I just shrugged and told them to give me someone else. So on Friday I met AJ. He was great - I gave him a rundown on my current hair issues (it looked ragged from the brutal winter and it was heavy and had no shape) and what hair products I used and asked him for suggestions. I let him take the lead like I did with Justin. AJ is quite talented and transformed my hair. Its silky, stylish, and exactly what I wanted. The service here is excellent. I got here half an hour early since I was in the area (I intended to just sit and read magazines) and AJ took me back early. They hang up your coat and get you tea too. Highly recommend. read more

This review has been a long time coming. I have been seeing Andrea now for 10 years, but I am terrible about leaving reviews for businesses because I am a grade A level procrastinator. I first saw Andrea as a new stylist right before my wedding 10 years ago, and I have seen her consistently throughout the years since that time! She is an absolute master of balayage, has a fantastic eye for what would look good on you (if you are indecisive like me and don't always know exactly what you're looking for), and will go above and beyond if for some reason you aren't completely satisfied with some aspect of your hair. She takes her time, is careful with color, and also sets realistic expectations. (Once I wanted to make my dark hair all white, and she talked me through what that would actually entail, promptly changing my mind about that). During COVID, Andrea offered home coloring kits and instructions that she personally dropped off to clients, and even thought she is not a "kid" hair cut stylist, she has also cut my daughter's hair in a pinch. She never "pushes" hair care items on you, but always has great recommendations for hair care and color preservation. She is highly responsive, will work to fit you in if you waited too long to try and schedule an appointment, and truly wants to see each of her clients beautiful and happy!
