My Daughter wanted her Make Up done for her JROTC Ball at School. I called the Salon and Cristina answered all my Questions and booked her an Appointment the Day of the Event. Jennifer did an AMAZING job on her MakeUp. My Daughter was so Happy. She put "Falsies" on her and her most Fav Part....she had a Jaw Line lol This is coming from a 17 year old that has NEVER had MakeUp done before. 10 years ago I read a great review in Chicago magazine about Salon Blue and am grateful I did! I have been going to Katrina ever since- cuts, highlights & blow-outs for 10 years. I was looking for a salon that wouldn't give me that same "Ann-Taylor-style-do." I have probably sent a dozen people their way and I have never heard a single complaint. I would feel comfortable using any stylist they hire. The atmosphere is professional and upscale yet down-to-earth and comfy. Everyone is able to talk to you about new products or suggest something for the one thing that drives you crazy about your hair. I usually find some small gem on the way out, like a handmade barrette, necklace or a new candle. The salon is also great. The women make you feel comfortable and the facials are the perfect gift to give yourself at the end of the week. You can always ask if they any specials going on in the spa. It's also nice to get a quick wax before a blow-out or run in and get my make-up done before "date-night'! Last but definitely NOT least they are open MONDAYS! The staff are so warm and welcoming and are amazing with working during COVID. They took my temperature and I felt 100% comfortable with the precautions they took. Overprice! I recently moved from Washington, DC to Chicago and I was in need of a hair stylish. I found Blue salon in the Internet, had very good reviews and I booked my appointment. The place is nice and clean. The stylists are friendly; I also enjoyed the patio while waiting. I had a haircut (more like a trim) and a gloss treatment (non permanent color) I was charged $250. I have spent good amount in my hair and I have traveled and done things to my hair all over US and world. I was very unhappy, I thought the price was high for what I've had done. The explanation from the receptionist was that the owner did my hair and she charges more. She said to come back with other stylish that charges less. Ugh, this place still pisses me off. I was growing my hair out for my wedding. I came in early on a Saturday morning and instructed my stylist that I only wanted a trim. She admitted that she'd been out drinking the night before and was tired - that should've been my first clue. I gave her the benefit of the doubt and guess what she gave me? LAYERS. They kept me from looking like a stripper! I started going to Salon Blue Lakeview about a year ago when the stylist I had been seeing for nearly four years really did a number on my hair. I went back to her three times to fix it and she wasn't listening to what I wanted. After some deliberating, I decided to have someone else fix it and picked Salon Blue because I knew someone who loved the Bucktown location. I made an appt. with Analicia, a junior stylist (cheaper) for a color correction. She was patient with me and didn't laugh when I took my hat off and showed her my platinum blonde locks and told her I was one lucite heel away from a career in Vegas. She asked me lots of questions, not just about my hair, but about my personality and likes and dislikes for fashion, etc. She really was giving me a full service consultation based on who I was as a person, and I found that super interesting. Based on my feedback she suggested I go darker, one shade darker than my natural brown hair color. I NEVER would have considered this with my old stylist. I didn't think I could be a brunette again without looking mousy. Well...it came out UNBELIEVABLY AWESOME. It was shinier and more vibrant than I ever was as a blonde and I felt like ME again. I am still a brunette and its been a year. Since then, I go back to see Analicia every six weeks and even let her dye my eyebrows. If you know me, you know that is a true feat. I have 100% trust in her, something I never thought I would achieve in a stylist. The Salon itself is great: very clean, modern, trendy and the stylists all look put together and professional. It's moderately priced. Cut and color for around $150 which is still good in Chicago. They also sell Bumble & Bumble products which I recently started using (thanks to Analicia, who was never pushy, but always tried new stuff on me that I ended up loving). Even Emily, the receptionist is fantastic. She always calls me to remind me when my appt is and last week she called to tell me there was a Cubs game so that I should allot some extra time. Parking is good, metered and side streets very close. All in all, I found someone and someplace I will keep going back to, probably even if I leave the area! Bravo, Salon Blue! I made an appointment at Salon Blue last night on my way home from work. It was a spur of the moment decision to get my hair highlighted (I'm always spur of the moment with hairstyles) and while I was searching Yelp for a good salon in the West Loop I came across their offer for 1st time clients: $59 highlights with purchase of a haircut. Sold! The drive to Lakeview was a snap becasue I was on the way back into the city from the suburbs. The salon is cute and cozy, without too many chairs, and everyone inside was super friendly. When I sat down with my stylist (Analicia) she and I talked quite a bit about what I was going for. My hair is really long (way past my shoulders) and I've been growing it out for a while, so I was hesitant to do anything more than a tiny trim. Plus I wanted blonde, beachy looking highlights (my natural color is medium brown). I knew I was being a unrealistic but Analicia listened to what I said, suggested I take a bit more off the ends and rebalance the layers, and then recommended "tipping" my hair to give a more grown out, natural look from the foils...and then suggested finishing it all with a gloss to even out the tones. She put a lot of thought into the best technique to use to get my ideal style, and she was honest with the limitations, which I really appreciate from a stylist....I'd rather get a slightly modified version of my request than something that looks bad. She was very friendly and extremely thorough, had tons of great product recommendations, and answered all of my questions. I knew I was going for a drastic change...not the easiest thing in the world. She personally shampooed and blew out my hair (which still looks awesome, even the next day after walking around in 90+ degree heat) and we shared our mutual disdain for supposedly full service salons that don't even blowdry their clients. Even though my appointment was running long and we were the last two in the salon, she didn't make me feel rushed to get out of there. I was THRILLED with my hair and don't mind that there's a little length missing because it looks fantastic. Analicia had great tips for styling and maintenance, and was really knowledgeable all around. This is one of the best cut/colors I've gotten, and to top it off, it was only $135! Even with my very long, thick hair! Analicia told me that the salon also offers make-up applications and has a full service spa upstairs. Even though it was a great bargain for a first time customer, I'd happily pay more since it was such a good experience. I'll be back :-) read more

After years of going to haircut butcher shops ending in the word cutery or clips, I had enough. Too many bad and rushed haircuts. Having seen Salon Blue from the train, and knowing it's located conveniently a few blocks from both the Wellington and Diversey train stops, I finally went for it. I went online to make an appointment, and picked my time, location (they're in Bucktown too) and stylist, and I was all set for Thursday. The front desk staff was incredibly welcoming upon my arrival. I was seated with Analicia immediately and we started talking about the poof of hair on my head. I told her of the years of poor decisions I had made, and we came up with a strategy to get me back to looking good. Not once did I ever hear the sound of clippers buzzing in my ear. All sheers, all the time. Analicia gave me an awesome scalp massage while shampooing my hair, and some product when we were finished. I'll admit, I looked pretty damn good. I'll be back to Salon Blue in a few weeks for my FREE clean up (sideburns, neckline, etc), and again in a month or so for my next cut. Highly recommended for men's haircuts. Another shout- out for Sarah Beck at Blue! I've been seeing Sarah for about a year and decided to change it up a bit...I went to a "new, hip" place in Wicker Park and got the worst cut and color...went back to Sarah a week later to fix it. She was so great about the whole fiasco and gave me ANOTHER great cut. Plus, she quick and efficient for $48 (w/o tip). For those who are dedicated Kathryn @ Carissima girls, you know she's on maternity leave until April 2007. I tried Julie here at Salon Blue and was pleased. $60 for Brazilian and did a good job- not the green hard wax that Kathryn uses, but cloth strips. I think I have a few more in growns than usual...but still good. Can't wait for Kathryn to come back. read more

I followed Mindy from another amazing salon Teddie Kossof! She is my go to hair stylist. She is very talented and definitely knows how to style a man's hair. Very friendly and personable, while in the same hair cut, you feel like you can relax. The salon itself is cute and has a warm feeling about it. The staff I met are VERY nice. It's near a lot of amazing restaurants too, where you can have a meal/cocktail before or after your haircut. Mindy recommended Fish Bar just a block away and it was amazing. I have been seeing Analicia for years- since 2008 I think? It's the longest relationship (romantic or otherwise) I've ever had, and that says a lot. I adore Analicia because not only is she just plain fun; she has a killer sense of style, and really knows what will work for you. I'm at the point with her now that I just tell her "do what you want, I know I'll love it". And I always do. Analicia has highlighted me blonde, then brought me to red (!), back to blonde, and now I'm considering going back to red ('I have an addiction, sir'). No matter what color she makes me- she ALWAYS takes her time to talk it over first, and she will be honest with me about how much work it will be to maintain. She's also the first stylist who has actually told me "you don't need to come in so much!" -lol- regarding my red upkeep. Rather than give in and damage my hair (and take my $$$), Analicia has offered up tips to help my color last by not breaking the bank. She is wonderful. And as far as cuts- I LOVE her cuts. I've been told by men I have 'hot hair'- and that's all because of Analicia. Go check her out! I also have to give a shout out to the Salon Blue desk staff (Cristina, you're wonderful), who ALWAYS go out of their way to get you what you need. It was my first time with highlights and I was a little hesitant as I have that one-tone blackbrown Asian hair. Dakota (she's lovely!) picked a gorgeous caramel and did slivers of colour all throughout my dark hair. She also gave me to-die-for schoolgirl bangs (can't wait to slip on a pretty headband) and adorable layers. I like that I didn't feel pressured to have a super edgy asymmetrical haircut or anything-- I walked out with a wholesome layered cut with sideswept bangs--- and absolutely loved it! I had a phenomenal experience at Salon Blue several weeks ago! New to the neighborhood, I was looking for a nearby salon that fit my needs. I had no trouble booking an appointment with Mindy a couple days in advance. So often, salons have a pretentious vibe and comfortable is the last thing I feel. The opposite is true at Salon Blue. Upon entering, every employee was genuinely friendly and I felt very welcome. Mindy was super nice and took the time to discuss her plan for my hair. I appreciated her open communication and didn't feel stressed when she began cutting! Overall, I was incredibly pleased with the final result and still love my haircut. On top of this great experience, the price was beyond reasonable for a haircut in the city. Additionally, Salon Blue uses and carries Bumble and Bumble products, my absolute fave. I absolutely can not express how much Jen has changed my hair world since I've met her two years ago! I couldn't believe I didn't write a review until now, but better later than never! From the professionalism and nice attitudes at the desk, to always being able to squeeze me in because I'm such a last minute person, salon blue has gone above and beyond for me. I refuse to trust ANYONE else with my hair but Jen. I would literally leave it growing out if that meant I couldn't book with her! Can't really rate the locale if I wasn't there.* A year ago I scheduled a hair consultation and home visit with Jealissa for my wedding and everyday since then I've been meaning to write this review. No joke. Life has gotten a little in the way, but she did such a good job that it's been on my mind for A YEAR! Anyway, so I contacted her about a month away from my wedding day and she was very pleasant and accommodating with setting up a day for my consultation. The consultation day came and I found myself stuck in traffic for what seemed like forever. I called to let the salon know and they seemed grateful to get a heads up. I finally arrived and Jealissa and I quickly chatted about what I wanted. Pictures were shown and I swear she did my hair in 20 mins or less. Now mind you, I was 30 mins late to my appointment and she was still able to see me! If I had been on time she probably could have washed my hair and shown me a couple other options, but I knew I was late so I wasn't expecting her to. It didn't even matter though, bc the first look she showed me was perfect! I was looking for a braided crown, kind of messy up do, something "natural looking"...Girl nailed it. The day of the wedding she showed up on time and ready with everything she needed. She was able to do my hair along with my bridesmaid, two flower girls, and my mom's hair. All on time. At first we weren't sure if we needed the flower girls' hair done, but decided that day to go ahead with it. Again, super accommodating and she had great suggestions! Long story short, she was great! I know she has moved salons since last we met and is now at Salon Blue, but I know I can definitely trust her at whatever salon she is at. They are lucky to have her! read more

Julie at Salon Blue gives the most incredible facials! I have been going to her for years and she knows my skin so well and what to recommend. I have no idea how she does it, but she can immediately tell what it needs. When I leave my skin is glowing and feels amazing. Julie is such a professional and really cares about what she is doing. Her facials are more clinical in nature which is exactly what I am looking for. I think facials should be done monthly, should involve a deep cleaning, great products, extractions and moisturizing. I want to leave with great clean skin that glows and with Julie it always does. Plus she is a very down-to-earth, nice person and I sincerely enjoy catching up with her each time I go. The upstairs spa area at Salon Blue is very quaint and relaxing. It's a nice environment to go and get a treatment. read more

Loved my experience at this salon. It is in my neighborhood and had a friendly feel. My stylist Amy was friendly and helpful with getting my hair cut. She let me know that she is always super honest with her clients and she loved my cut choice so I felt confident she would have talked me in or out of a cut that wouldn't suit me. She talked about products I could use but wasn't too pushy or sales-y like other salons I have been to. She even recommended a comparable product I could by at the store if I couldn't pay a salon price. Overall, very happy with my salon experience and will return. On a whim, I stopped in here to get a bang trim on my way home from work. I'd gotten an overpriced haircut about a month ago and wanted a touch up since I'd gotten barely any layers, just a chop. The welcoming receptionist said they could see me right away - great! After taking a look at my hair, the owner was very frank in letting me know that I could have a MUCH better cut. Not something you want to hear after spending so much just a month prior. She offered to see me the next day, and explained the pricing tiers. I opted to go with someone a bit less experienced but at a lower price point. She introduced me to Sergio, who consulted with me before leaving. Came back the next day, was greeted warmly once again. Now, Sergio. Something that really stood out was that he asked me my usual hair routine. Again, he was frank in telling me that I needed to not shampoo every day. I loved the honesty here. Soon after, he got to work and voila! Best hair cut I've gotten in years! Salon Blue is truly one of the best salons in the city. The staff are friendly, the prices reasonable, and the location is great (right off the brown line.) I had a great experience at Salon Blue until the end. I looked at my hair and it wasn't exactly the color I wanted. It looks fine but not the transformation I was hoping for. Then I went to the register to pay and nearly fell over when they told me. I could get my haircut and dyed 3 times over for this price!! I'm never going back because I definitely got ripped off. WOW I had the most amazing experience at Salon Blue! My friend's daughter gets her hair done there and I love the fresh cuts she gets done. I've known of the salon for over a decade, but never tried it, until the other day. I went on the website and looked at before and after pictures. I realized that each cut was perfect for each client, so unique and flattering. I quickly booked an appointment for the next day, online, bonus points for that! When I arrived I was greeted by the girl at the front desk, and we chatted about the salon and its heritage. She was so warm and inviting, and brought me upstairs. I felt like I was in someone's home: the setting was so comfortable. Mary K was with a client, but smiled and welcomed me. Once I sat down I realized that not only was she the owner but she was also a master craftswoman. And then the magic began. I have always wanted someone to sit me down and give me an overall evaluation, so to speak. Mary K looked at my face structure, my hair texture and waves and growth patterns. She told me what she was going to do. I trusted her 1000%. She spent well over an hour with me, and gave me makeup tips and suggestions for highlights. She created a look for ME, just me! it's been awhile--this is back in the days when i waxed my brows. i have since seen the light. there are a couple of things that i remember about this experience, though. #1-it was expensive. #2-possibly one of the worst brow waxes i have received, and #3 i seemed to have an especially bad reaction to their wax/process. i was red ALL day. i have senstive skin, true. but i have never had a reaction like this before or since. the esthetician actually asked me if i was on accutane...NOT a good sign since i was NOT and would not be waxing if that were the case. i give it 2 stars because they were nice, i liked the vibe of the place, and the room was relaxing. i would be willing to consider coming back for a haircut at the bucktown location someday. read more

I was at a charity auction for Chicago Children's Memorial board where I ended up being the lucky winner of the silent auction for a facial at this spa upstairs of Salon Blue. Overall, I was really impressed. The waiting room was adorable and had a very calm feng shui energy to it. Loved the cucumber water and fresh fruit available. My facial was incredible. I had the Signature facial (which includes a glycolic peel and a specialty mask) It is pricey, but I think it is worth every penny and I plan on going back. The sign in the window boasted their expertise in working with blondes, and as someone who has been highlighting her hair blonde for years I was intrigued. I tried Salon Blue because I received a gift certificate, and I was disappointed with my haircut. It felt rushed and the stylist didn't seem very experienced in general. She gave me some layers that were really choppy and sort of uneven and I had to ask her to fix it, and even after I wasn't completely satisfied. Plus the place felt disorganized and the decor is definitely showing some age. It wasn't a horrible haircut, but I shouldn't have to feel resigned to tying my hair in a ponytail for a coupla months. read more

Lauren did such an amazing job, I don't think I can ever go to anyone else from now on. My hair lightweight, silky, smooth, and most importantly, it is healthy. A fantastic facial ... from someone who hates facials. I received a custom facial as a gift and was inclined to skip it, but I'm glad I didn't. It was really amazing -- more spa than facial treatment, more relaxing than the other times I've had facials, and my skin still feels good two days later. The space itself is definitely an oasis. It's relaxing without being too new age-y and over the top, but also calming and comfortable. The products used were not harsh and they smelled great. The shoulder and arm massage itself was worth whatever the price was! Thu definitely has magic hands and a mind for this work. I had the great fortune of being a walk-in and meeting Analicia in 2009. She has been creative, responsive and consistently great over the last two years that I have been her loyal client. Analicia has the gift of perception: She "saw" me from our first meeting, so I always walk out feeling (and looking) like a better version of myself, not like somebody I'm not. I usually hate getting my hair done because the hair dressers are usually pretty rude about my hair and hurt my feelings by calling it thin and giving hopeless looks but today when I went to Salon Blue my hair was treated like a celebrity!
