I've had my hair cut and colored by Elizabeth Quandt for almost 10 years now. She is worth every penny -- never had anyone else cut my hair since moving to Chicago and probably never will until the day she retires As someone with naturally curly and lightened (that part not naturally, sadly) hair, finding a fantastic stylist that can do both isn't easy. With Elizabeth, I have always left so happy with what she's done and am grateful to have someone I can trust completely to do an amazing time every time. To top it off, she's the loveliest woman to be around while she works. I can come in feeling chatty, quiet, happy, tired, or whatever mood I'm in and not feel that I have to be anything other than that. I recommend Elizabeth to anyone who asks. read more

The Colour Room - Cut and color by Elizabeth ‍ - Hair Salons Near Me - Chicago, Illinois

I requested a color and cut appointment with Elizabeth and after Elizabeth initially confirmed they could work with me on the color stating that they "ABSOLUTELY works with resistant gray" later proceeded to ignore my requests and then I received a long text message saying that THEY do NOT work with resistant gray hair and would not be a "good MATCH for for me." Elizabeth hadn't seen my hair in person or in pictures and refused to work with me because they stated that it wouldn't be "a good fit" very confusing messages and was not even able to even get an in person consultation! To add, it took over a week for a response and after my last attempt to schedule a simple haircut/trim, I was declined for the reason of "not a good fit" I would like to talk to the owner/manager about this issue as I appald by this response. Also "color correction" was assumed and stated in the text response - stylist never saw my hair in person or viewed photos. How can that assumption be made ? Also, I (as many women are) willing to invest the time to try out different stylists /engage in consultations until the right fit is found- the statement of "wasting my time with a consultation" is absurd. In addition, and I quote from Elizabeth's first text " Yes, I ABSOLUTELY work with clients who have resistant gray, and I'd be happy to help you with your root touch-up. " How would then their comfort/expertise level with resistant gray CHANGE after a follow up text message? I question the reasons for why my request for a consult/trim was denied. I found this stylist and salon very unprofessional. read more

Elizabeth is so amazing!!! I've seen her for 4 years now for highlights, balayage and cuts, and as a very VERY picky blonde, I am so happy I found her. I had wanted to slowly return from being a little too bleached out to my natural dark blonde, and she did a magic "reverse balayage" on me (didn't know that was a thing!!) and my hair great out sooo nicely. She listens to what I want but helps keep it real on what my goals are and how to realistically get there. Her energy is calm, chill, and the salon is nice and never chaotic -- which I love!! read more

I'm so glad I found Elizabeth at The Colour Room! I got hooked on Balayage way back in 2007. After my colorist/stylist left the industry to become a realtor, I had no idea how hard it would be to find someone else who really knew how to do a Balayage. After many trials and errors and a few tears and even considering just letting my gray grow out (!!), I found Elizabeth and I am so grateful. She is a true artist. She also REALLY listens and grants every hair wish I express. The color, the cut, the style, and her personality: all just amazing! read more

Who says you can't look dolled up going to the gym?? Shoutout to Elizabeth for giving my hair so much life. I came to get a trim, but I came out GLOWING. Super warm and welcoming experience, would come back again. read more

I went in for a change of look for the holidays and New Year with Elizabeth. I told her I wanted something subtle since I didn't have any inspiration pics, and she truly exceeded my expectations. For someone who's always cautious about damaging my hair, it's never looked more alive and healthy! Thank you for always delivering and creating such a safe, welcoming space. read more

I just had an AMAZING service with Matt Stephan! It had been a very long time since I had last gotten my haircut and it was in desperate need of care. Matt studied the photos I offered as examples for the cut and color I desired and asked me what I was looking for to make sure we were aligned. He was very attentive to detail and helped me to make decisions on colors/tones that would complement my skin tone. Matt also made some suggestions to add more dimension to my hair and I feel blessed. Matt gave me a GORGEOUS cut and color - we did a warm auburn balayage and long shag. I felt completely transformed afterwards! I can't recommend Matt enough! He is a hair genius!! Thank you soooooo much, Matt! read more

My stylist, ELIZABETH , is very attentive. Every appointment starts with a thoroughly consultation when I'm also advised about new products suitable for my hair color and structure and tips on how to care for it at home. She treats my hair with care rather than rushing. I always leave feeling beautiful and confident. read more

Loved coming here to get my hair done by Michelle! She greeted me at the door and she consulted me first with how I wanted my hair to look. She educated me on what would work and what color my balayage would turn out like. I had a balayage previously done from over a year ago and didn't want a drastic color change and more of a subtle balayage look with my already dark brown hair. She was super understanding and so fun and easy to talk to! I loved how she also cut and layered my hair and she did a great job being thoughtful with how much hair I wanted cut off. I was so thrilled with how my hair cut and balayage turned out! Everything was a little over $200 which was reasonably price. I'll definitely recommend to everyone that you can trust your hair with Michelle! read more

I've finally found a salon, and stylist that didn't leave me sobbing when I walked out the door. Nicole listened to me and did exactly what I wanted. She asked questions and I was 100% truthful, important as this was my first time having color professionally done. When she asked me questions, and I didn't have answers, she provided options in terms I could understand, to help me determine which options would work best for my hair. She also took my botched haircut, and evened everything out. I no longer feel like I look like a boy in a 80s rock band! I feel like my hair now is beautiful, fun, and something I can actually style. I'm a very low maintenance person, so I really appreciate that she kept that in mind. Bottom line, you will not be disappointed if you come here and let Nicole or another team member work magic on your hair! read more

I got an appointment on short notice within the week. The lady who cut my hair asked a lot of questions to understand what I needed and did a great job. I have thick, wavy, long hair and came in for a wash, cut, and blow dry. The price was also reasonable at around $80. read more

I have been going to Stephanie here since 2016 or so. I randomly selected her because she had long blonde hair like mine at the time, and she was free a few days before New Years. I've been loyal to her since - she even found creative ways to take care of me during covid when the salon was locked down. I appreciate that she never pushes product on me, but will give me really good insight and recommendations for my specific hair issues. She also understands my fear of having too much length cut after another salon chopped off way more than they should have one time. Highly recommend Stephanie at Colour Room! read more

Elizabeth gave me an amazing haircut today! The location is very convenient, easy to book, and I highly recommend her as a stylist.

For blonde highlights, Matt was everything I could have hoped for and more. I've been searching for a hairstylist with transparent pricing and legitimate talent for the longest time. Matt took the time to reach out (via text) prior to my appointment to understand my current hair status and end goal. Talk about amazing communication! I came in with my hair at almost its completely natural color (dark blonde/light brown), and Matt took the time to completely transform my color. I left the salon with beautiful, dimensional blonde hair. I was further blown away by Matt's incredible personality. I felt like I was talking to a longtime friend. Matt is curious, funny, genuinely kind, and an amazing stylist. I was thrilled with my end result and will absolutely be a returning client! Thank you Matt :) read more

Nick is INCREDIBLE! He took what was a beyond atrocious cut/color botch job and made me look human again! I cannot rave about him enough...seriously. p.s. He took before and after photos, of which I am certain he will post on their website in order to gain some MUCH DESERVED kudos. Check them out because it was certainly a feat in and of itself! Elizabeth Ramirez is the absolute best! I always tell people if I ever moved I would fly back into town for her to do my hair. I have been going to her for all things hair for almost 10 years now and I have zero complaints. Michelle is honestly amazing. I am a perfectionist when it comes to hair - my sister-in-law is a hairstylist in North Carolina and has coached me well - and Michelle never fails to exceed my expectations! She is a QUEEN of blonde balayage and her cuts are always on point. Moreover, she is such a delightful, relaxing person to talk to. I've been seeing her for 3 years and we've developed a sweet friendship in addition to her always making my hair look amazing. I recently moved to Chicago from out of state. I had been with the same hair stylist for over 10 years and a priority with the move for me was to find a new stylist in my new home town. After reading quite a few reviews on Yelp, I honed in on The Colour Room. I read Matt's bio which explained how and why he got into his chosen career and his philosophy in cutting, styling, and coloring hair. I called Matt and told him my situation, what I was looking for in a stylist and haircut and color, and almost immediately knew Matt was the stylist I was looking for. He explained that he's very exacting, that he takes his time to get it right, and as a picky client, I appreciated the time and care he clearly put into his work. My instincts were spot on and I had a fantastic experience with Matt. He is so friendly and easy to talk to and he truly listened to my concerns and wants and executed to perfection. I walked out of the salon feeling fantastic and so happy with the cut and color. I'm looking forward to my next visit knowing I'm in good hands. read more

Anyone with dark thick Asian hair knows what a struggle it is to find someone who knows what they are doing with hair color. I stumbled upon this salon during my search for someone who could revive my very damaged thick dark hair after a bad hair color job. I'm so glad I found them!! Matt is very patient, a great listener and extremely detail orientated. He patiently listened to what I wanted and delivered exactly that. His specialty is color correction and after having gone to multiple people, I can safely say he is the best I have been to so far! He is someone who loves what he does and it truly shows in his work. The color correction and cut were exactly what I had in mind. This is the only place I will be going to in Chicago for my color and cut. read more

I came to Matt with a very grown out, damaged, and badly bleached balayage. I wanted to do a complete 180 and transform to a cool, all-over brunette. I honestly didn't think it was possible, but as you can see from the pictures, Matt is a miracle worker. He took time to understand my issues and vision, and he spent over 3 hours working on me. He is very detail oriented and doesn't cut any corners. He is easy to talk to and so funny! He charged a very fair price too. I truly can't recommend him enough....I can't remember the last time I was this happy walking out of a salon. Thanks Matt! read more

Brittany is a balayage miracle worker! I came in with 6m+ grown out chunky highlights and two photos from Pinterest and she made my hair dreams come true! I cannot remember leaving a salon so happy with the result. She was also very understanding of pausing half way through our appointment to allow me to pump for my baby. Nicole is absolutely wonderful. She did such a great job helping me get to the perfect shade of icy blonde and I can't recommend her enough. She's so kind and great to talk to. I normally dread sitting in the chair for 3-4 hours for the whole process (airtouch balayage), but talking to her makes the time fly by. Amy did a wonderful job! I showed her a photo of what I wanted and she totally delivered. She was so nice to talk to and very knowledgeable about her craft. I was a bit bummed that we didn't have enough time for a blow dry-- as a mom of a 5 month old, I rarely get a chance to get my hair done and I was really looking forward to that part. The places I've been to in the past, blow dry services are included with a cut & highlight service, if I had known to schedule it separately, I totally would have. read more

Megan made such a miracle with my hair that I had to immediately Yelp about it! I had been going to a hairdresser basically my whole adult life and recently moved to Chicago so i was nervous to try someone new. But Megan blew me away!! She truly is an expert in what she does and explained different options for color and treatments so well. And she made sure that we got to a color that I wanted but that wouldn't damage my hair.
