, Value I'm absolutely delighted that I trusted Joseph with my hair this afternoon and I'm extremely grateful the receptionist was able to fit me in today on just a few hours notice! Right before Halloween I requested a light trim from a different salon because I'm trying to grow out my hair to my chest. The stylist at this other place had her own agenda and surprised me with a v shaped cut meant for straight hair. I have combination hair and the cut this other stylist gave me left my hair wispy looking, frizzy and lacking volume and or body. Joseph took his time, examined the texture of my hair and suggested we bring the tail part of my style up to my clavicle bone to bring my hair's natural curl back to life and add back thickness. He called his technique the diva curl. He carefully cut the back while my hair was dry rather than giving me a wet cut. He knew exactly what he was doing and now I will definitely keep returning to him because I'd love to get my hair long and healthy looking and I trust Joseph because he knew exactly how much hair to take off from the back to give me a style I can wear that works with the natural curl and wave pattern of my hair. Megan is a friend of a friend and even though we knew each other casually, her professionalism and attention to detail honestly impressed me. I've had a short bleached pixie cut that I'm currently growing out. Megan went through was to expect, the time frame and results if I don't do any regular up keep. She told me everything she was doing before or as she was doing it and why, which really made me trust her. What I liked most is that she asked other stylist opinions on what kind of toners to use on my hair. (Thanks Ryan!!) I'm writing this 4-star review because I do not like that I'm being forced to select a gender of either male or female to book an appointment. For a business that prides itself in being located in "Chicago's diverse wicker park" this form design is not very inclusive. I made this appointment on a whim (I'm fairly impulsive and wanted a haircut before my best friends wedding.) I called Friday late and got in the next day which is exactly what I was hoping for. I ended up with Lisa who was kind, efficient, and accommodating. I let her know that I have telogen effluvium (where I lose mass quantities of hair in short periods of time due to stress) and wanted some help treating my scalp and then shorten up the ends so when my hair grows it has an easier time catching up lengthwise. She knew exactly what to do and got the ball rolling immediately. Now the one thing that I LOVED is that she was super gentle with my scalp and hair. A lot of stylists when I tell them I lose a lot of hair are still really aggressive with the shampoo, cut, and styling and I end up spending the 1hr+ appointment freaking out but this was a dream. Lisa at Bang! Salon is the best stylist I've ever worked with. She 100% changed my life for the better. I found her on Instagram and reached out - desperate for a fresh, fall look. After sending her just a few selfies, she took a look at my skin tone, facial structure, and even personality and was able to determine this fiery red look would be perfect - she was right! I went in with little expectations- after all it's just a haircut. Boy, was I wrong. Lisa is so down to earth. Conversation flowed easily which is so important during a long hair appointment. She was knowledgeable and answered all my questions about the process and upkeep after. Once she blew my hair out, I was shocked. My eyes completely popped, my chin looked stronger, and my whole face was brightened. I also enlisted her skills to do my makeup for a night out (makeup also in picture) and as you can tell, she's talented with more than just the hairbrush! I have been thinking about this for a long time but am making the effort to write this post to warn others. I am giving this salon one star as it has been the worst haircut of my life. I have gone to this salon for 2 haircuts prior but my stylist left so I asked specifically for someone who has a lot of experience especially with wavy hair. I got assigned someone who ends up being pretty green and from her instagram only cuts blunt straight hair. I asked her for a long shag and specifically asked if she knew how to cut it since her instagram was filled with straight blunt cuts. She said she knew how to do it but I ended up with a huge non blended layered hole on the left side of my head. I let it grow out hoping it would get better for months and it still looked terrible so I finally went to another salon and the first thing they commented on was the hole on the left side of my face. I have been going here since 2014, and the owner Eli is not only extremely talented but super sweet. He is super knowledgable about current and future trends and techniques, and travels the world teaching hair. Other staff, especially Dee are always helpful and friendly. I drive from NW Indiana every six weeks and every cut is on point. Highly recommend Eli as well as Dee. Also if your a guy and get a fade, Eli is also your guy!!! I love coming to Bang! The salon is super trendy and really laid back. I love how welcoming everyone always is and think it's really cool to see a diverse group of stylists. You can totally tell that they all have their own unique style...love it! Lisa was the BEST and I honestly can't imagine going to someone else! First of all, she is extremely talented!! There has never been a more delightful group of stylists and salon managers in the world. I have been going to Nicholas for about 8.5 years, however, he was at a different salon prior to coming to Bang! but I really feel like this place is home now. Everyone is welcoming and open and it never feels stressed out in there, like some salons can feel a little frenetic. I had my whole bridesmaids troupe their for my wedding and they did such an excellent job on everyone's hair and makeup. I had tried many stylists before him, but they always lacked the knowledge of appropriately putting in foils. I would recommend Eli to anyone for a cut or color. As a former client of a stylist who left earlier this year I have to say I'm ashamed at how management has been flooding reviews from their personal friends to try and make it look like they are wonderful people. To my knowledge at least 5 stylists have left in the last year due to toxicity in the workplace specifically with management and ownership. They are passive aggressive and will openly ignore requests and take out aggression in overly petty manners. The manager, Taylor's, close friend Ashley has left reviews on Yelp and Google about management without having any insight and without ever receiving a service at the salon the was not free. Nicole Duran has left a review about just finding this welcoming salon on Google while being a close friend of the owner, eli, for years. It shows just how toxic the environment is that when sending illegal email blasts to clients for good reviews they received an honest, negative review, and then had to ask friends to lie on their behalf. The talent at the salon currently is also subpar. read more

I went here about a year ago for a cut based on a recomendation of a friend. ( I had an argument with my old stylist and wanted to get back at him) I made an appointment over the phone and was happy they were able to squeeze me in the next day. When I arrived the first thing I noticed where the hair stations. They didnt have any desk or tables so things like flat irons and blow dryers where just sitting on the floor. Gross. I discussed with my female stylist what I wanted including telling her that I usually have the back shaved up with a number2 on a clippers. She started cutting away . When she finished I said " No I want it shorter in the back like using a number2 blade on the clippers" She started trimming down with scissors. I again stated I wanted it shaved. She then told me she was doing her version of the hair cut I wanted. At that point I was pissed and just wanted to leave. When I went to go pay I pulled out my credit card. They then informed me that they were not taking credit cards. I pointed out that on their website It said that they take credit cards and also they have the visa/mastercard sticker in their window. They then preceded to tell me that one of the owners had stolen their credit card machine and would I like to use the atm they had installed outside. ( Had I know I would have stopped at my own bank and gotten cash on the way to my appointment) I walked outside to use the machine only to discover It was on of those weird ATM's thats not really related to a bank and charges a $4 fee! I will never return to this salon nor recomend it to anyone! read more

Ugh, I really hate doing this, and I've sat and contemplated this review for a few weeks now. I have had terrible luck with Chicago salons, which is weird for a big city but maybe as a 30 year old new mom the salons I'm trying are too city trendy? Anyways, I wanted a change after baby, you know, to feel sexier! I chopped major length off my beautiful hair, wanted it longer in front than back, similar to an angled bob but less structured. I also wanted to add fun color, but professional so we decided on a soft ombré (I have dark brown hair). When I booked the appt I made it for ombré and cut and no one mentioned how long I would be in the salon. I ended up sitting there for 4 hours and ran out with wet hair, as a breastfeeding mom, I can't just sit forever in a salon, would have been nice to know, I would have made other accommodations. I got home and blow dried my hair and was hoping to love the color. The cut was okay, although it was over texturized, making my wavy hair look damaged on the ends, I was especially concerned with the color, orange and no graduation, went from my brown hair right to this orange color. I found myself putting my hair up the next few days because I was embarrassed. Finally I called and another stylist agreed to tone the color. I went back year again for another 2-3 hours of my life to have the color toned and the ends cut off so they looked less damaged from the texturizing razor that the first stylist went to town with. I think the color was better but now weeks later I have an appointment elsewhere to completely go over back to brown, it's still too drastic, slightly orange and a little too hipster for this working mom. I gave it a few weeks but the back is just not too looking. The most frustrating end to this ordeal was the shirt and cardigan I wore to my first appt had dye poured down the back of it and were completely ruined. Needless to say I got all my money back for the first appointment but still feel sad about how this all went. I was really excited to make a change and was willing to pay good money with a senior stylist/owner, and it's just been a lame headache. Definitely ask how long your service will be, especially if you can't dedicate 4+ hours to sitting in a salon. read more

I guess all women in this world know how important it is to find the right hairstylist to take care of your hair. Well, I have to admit that I found the perfect person for me and I did at Bang! Salon. From the moment I called there to make an appointment, I knew I had found the ideal place, since the person who I spoke to was really polite, friendly and willing to listen to my preferences. Once I got there, I was tenderly welcomed and introduced to the stylist who promised me that my hair would look fantastic! And this was exactly the result! She washed my hair and I enjoyed the best scalp massage ever! I felt amazing, and for a few minutes, I forgot about all my problems! Then, we discussed about my new look and I explained to her what I was looking for. I have to admit that she understood perfectly and I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw my reflection in the mirror! This is by far one of the worst haircut places for men. I had haircut from Victoria. She had no clue on how to cut men's hair. She cut my ear twice with scissors alright! She just doesn't know how to cut it. She asked me million questions and asked my advice on every single detail. And this is after i told her how i wanted my hair done. I've been coming here for about a year. Megan does an excellent job with color and cut. She's so talented and really takes the time to understand what her clients want. You can tell she's an artist as she'll approach your hair like her next masterpiece! She's also extremely personable and easy to chat to. I've recommended Megan to two people who both have said that she's done their hair better than anyone they've ever been to before! As for the salon, it's clean, the staff are friendly, they use great products and always have a wide variety of beverages to offer. The prices are reasonable for the area.
