I've been here three times since moving to the city back in August and every single time I'm happy with my hair when I leave. They will listen to what you want, and they ask questions to make sure they know what you're looking to do to your hair before they start cutting. The atmosphere is very friendly and open, for sure. Pricing is incredibly reasonable for the quality you're being given; $25(for men's cuts, not sure about other pricing). I made an appointment the day before. I arrived a 5 mins early and sat down to wait for a stylist. This seems to be a popular hair place for men. It was a Thursday and I don't remember what the deal for that day was. They do have deals on Monday and Tuesdays ($45 color and free hair cut) and Wednesdays ($15 hair cuts). I paid $18 + tip. The space is not a fancy spa....it is a basic hair salon with one hair sink. Frequent phone calls to the salon interrupt the time the stylist spends with you, but they return right away. I really like my hair cut and I think they did a great job. You need to remember two things: 1. Bring cash (they do not accept credit cards, but there is a bank just across the street) 2. This is a what you see is what you get kind of place. No frills, so get over it. It is well worth the money and right in my neighborhood. read more

Overbooked & rushed job = hysterical 6 year old. My husband & I have been going here for several years for cuts and color (me) and they've done a fine job in the past. Not today, however. My husband made an appointment for him & our 6 year old daughter. After they arrived several other people showed up - a walk-in and another family who had an appointment for the same time. So the woman seemed flustered and rushed. He asked that my daughters hair be cut so that it's below the shoulders. She cut it ABOVE the shoulders. And of course 6 year olds are REALLY good at rolling with things. She's been hysterical ever since. (How's your Saturday going?) A stylist should never rush a hair cut in order to get through as many clients as possible because that leads to lousy haircuts. We'll never be back. read more

Isabella is fantastic. I have long hair with layers. Before Studio I-90, just about every time I would get my hair cut, the layers would be uneven. But Isabella does a great job with layers and with my bangs. She's also great at making sure she knows EXACTLY what you want for that particular cut. You can't beat the service or the price. I don't really like to spend too much money on haircuts nor do I ever know what I'm doing to make appointments so I usually go to Great Clips or something, but this was by my work so I thought I'd give it a try. I have long hair and I like to have short layers so it looks voluminous and most of the cheap places I go to don't understand how to cut that look - These gals here knew exactly what I was talking about and I absolutely LOVE my haircut. I'm writing this about a month later and it still looks amazing!! I didn't need an appointment, it was fast and easy.. the woman who cut my hair had such confidence and communicated so well with me that I felt totally at ease. They are always accommodating when it comes to booking an appointment and my haircuts always look GREAT! I have referred many friends here (both guys and girls) and they are now regular customers as well. Studio I-90 is reasonably priced and they offer a great straight razor neck shave. They will even provide you with your own complimentary personal razor which they label and store for you. Now that's exceptional service! Love this place. So i have been here twice, first time was for a hair cut second cut and color. I am from a small town and this salon reminds me of one back home i really like that. Both experiences have been great, had the same lady both times tho I have forgotten her name. I the second time she did high light and low lights she also deep conditioned my hair for free, it really need it was dried out from the summer. Now looking good and i didn't have to give up an arm and a leg to get these services!! The specials they have here are great! It was one of these days when I decided to get a haircut last minute. I arrived 30 minutes before closing time and they took me in right away (it was a Tuesday). There was a new girl who said she would cut my hair (I didn't catch her name). I went with a layered mid-length bob (from pretty long hair) and I could tell she hesitated a bit. But Angela and Veronika (I believe she is the owner) came to the rescue and instructed her and also fixed a few things. Overall they took time and spent over 45 minutes getting it right (all three of them!), tweaking details and getting it exactly to how I wanted it. At the end it was perfect and it cost me $20! On my way out Veronika stopped me, said that she loved the haircut and the way it looked on me but she wanted to style it to show me how it needs to look like. So she spent an extra 20 minutes after closing, styling it at no extra charge (they usually charge for styling), with her husband waiting in the waiting area. You could tell that she really loved her job; was passionate about it and wanted to make her customers happy. I love this place and I will keep going back there (this was my third haircut there and I never had a bad one yet)! read more

Ohhh my goodness I just love love love this place! I have only been a few times now, but this is where I plan to get my haircut from now on. I took a gamble and chose a new place (I don't usually go to the same place/person as many do, however, I'm not too high maintenance about haircuts...), but I decided to get bangs!, which is kind of a gamble to take in the first place, not to mention randomly going to a place you've never heard of. Anyway, supppper cheap, really friendly haircutters, so quaint and informal, I just love it! I showed my hairdresser the picture of the bangs look I was going for, and she made them look great! And bang trims are only $5. I will DEFINITELY be back and will encourage my friends as well. read more

I went in for a walk-in trim. I told the stylist I wanted a trim, but after drying my hair I see it is at least 1.5 inches to 2 inches shorter. She said she was taking off a half-inch. I had previous layers I wanted trimmed up but I feel she trimmed them too coarsely; I didn't want that chunky look. I think she spent probably 10 minutes cutting my hair total. It's not a terrible haircut, don't get me wrong, but it's about the quality of a Great Clips. For $18 at the last minute though, I guess that is what you get. A men's cut here is probably fine, but I won't be going back. read more

Got my hair cut by Angela (I believe) at this place. Its a small place with only one shampoo chair and 3 haircut chairs. As you sit down, they ask what you are looking for. They asked all the pertinent questions (what number for the sides and back, round or square in the back, side burns or not, etc) for my haircut. Obviously will be different for girls. After the cut, they do straight razor cut of the neck, being a straight razor virgin I was nervous. It turns out to be nothing more a regular shave with a cool looking razor. As an incentive to return, after 3 haircuts you get your own personal razor blade. They have a cabinet full of blades with people's names on them. You don't need an appointment but bring cash (one guy didn't and had to leave to go to the ATM I hope he returned and paid for his cut). I went at like 4:30pm and only waited about 10 minutes or so. There was plenty of free street parking at that time. Go on Wednesdays because the haircut is only $15. As an added bonus for you creepy dudes, one of the stylist is pretty cute I think her name was Jessica. All in all, it was a good haircut that was nearby and only cost $15 + tip. Stylist did ask if I wanted a shampoo or styling product after the cut, I declined (never understood that because a shower is a must post haircut, so why style for the ride home). I will return and hopefully get my own straight razor. read more

I wish I can give this place more stars but they only deserve these two because they're nice and cheap. First, the haircut I got is just awful.. She gave me bangs like I asked and layered them but there's a few pieces that are just long and hanging in the middle of my face. And lastly, the owner was taking shots with other clients and there's underage children there getting their haircut. How can you let someone drinking tequila shots and then cut your hair? Great local place. It's always easy to get an appointment and they do a nice job cutting hair (though I must admit, cutting my hair is not a difficult task). More than that, the price is unbeatable. With tip, my haircut comes to a whopping $15. Not sure where else in Chicago you can get that kind of deal! The best part, however, is the straight blade shave on the back of the neck at the end of each hair cut. Make it in for 3 hair cuts, and you get a blade of your own. Rock on! read more

I would love to give this place a terrible review, b/c I don't want it to get too popular and then I can't get an appointment and they jack up the price. However, Jeanette has given me the best cut of my life (running on 8 months now). I now look like a jewish Bradley Cooper, and I'm not even Jewish!! My cut only costs $18 ($25 w/ tip) and I almost proposed to her during my first straight razor neck shave. Don't let the looks of this place fool you. They don't need all of the fancy decor.
