Jennee is amazing! I went in with very long, thick hair, that was bulky and in need of a style. I wanted to keep it long while adding lots of layers and movement. Jennee gave me the perfect cut that I have been looking for!! Stylists always give me a few long layers that disappear and my hair ends up back in a pony tail. Not this time! My hair still has the length but with lots of layers and movement. It feels much lighter and will be perfect for summer! I am in love with my new style! Jennee is also great at up-do's and has done several different styles with my hair. She is great at braids, romantic sweepy up-do's and sleeker styles. She is talented, creative, and attentive! Jennee's still the best, it's two years past my initial review and I won't let anyone else touch my hair. Jennee just styled my hair for my wedding this past weekend, and she did such an incredible job on me, my bridesmaids, my mom, and my grandmother. Jennee's so calm and wonderful and she's a pleasure to spend time with, both on my wedding day and during regular haircuts. I have had two amazing experiences with two different stylist here. I have been going to see Dottie to get my hair cut for over ten years now and she is amazing. I feel very comfortable just sitting down and telling her to do her thing. I've always been very happy with the results and my hair has always been easy to maintain and style between cuts. When Dottie was out of town on the weekend of my wedding she suggest that Jennee do my hair. Jennee was amazing and fun to work with. I think the best thing that I can say about Jennee was that she did my sisters hair, my mothers hair and my mother-in-laws hair without a trial and they all looked beautiful. I have definitely been to weddings where girls who have not had a trial have horrible hair and that was not the case with Jennee everyone looked beautiful and like themselves. Yes... It's that serious. When she left Nordstroms, I was devastated... But thanks to my Yelp family we have been reunited. I moved to Chicago this week and she was literally my first stop. She takes her time and makes sure you brows are perfect before she sends you back into the real world. She even takes the time to make sure you know how to properly fill in your brows if you ask her. I've been going to Michele Tucker since the beginning and have had amazing hair for 8 years. I've done pretty much every color/hair style under the sun and Michele make it look awesome every single time. It's so great to pop into her chair (especially in the lovely new space that's all her own!) and give her a tiny notion of an idea and let her do as she pleases. Whatever voodoo she does to my head always gets the best compliments! And the compliments keep coming, even if I haven't gone in awhile. Michele is a master at her craft. Her haircuts look fabulous right after they're done as well as many as 3 months later! She cuts it so they always look good, despite growing out. It's really wonderful to see how Michele & Fanny (Tiffany Foster, formerly of K. Paige salon & Robert Jeffrey) work together. They are perfect partners to collaborate on your head! It's rare to find a place that does both excellent cuts AND gorgeous color. If you want subtle & natural looking OR fire engine red (or Barney purple for that matter!) & funky, this is it. She doesn't normally stock the crazy colors but you can go pick up a bottle of Special Effects from The Alley on Clark and she will give a most masterful application. I hadn't been to a professional hair salon in over two years, so when I decided that I aesthetically needed an update to wow my boyfriend who had only seen me with one plain jane look, I did research and stumbled upon Hair Party--the only place that received a perfect 5 stars--for very good reasons. I stopped in to book an appointment with Michelle, but she was so booked that she couldn't take any new clients, so she referred me to Tiffany instead. Not only is Tiffany a down to earth, friendly, and smiley stylist, she most importantly did an amazing job on my hair!! I can confidently say that she if the first hair stylist that I didn't feel nervous with. She colored my dull hair black and gave me the sexiest bangs. I told her that I was intimidated to get bangs because I didn't want to look like I was getting ready for kindergarten, but I wanted sexy rock star bangs and she executed my request completely. I'm sure that she dreaded doing my waist length hair, but she looked happy doing her job, and that made me less nervous about my new transformation. I love this place. Good vibe, good artists, and good souls. They are very reasonable with their prices as well. I have your basic long-ish brown hair and I am not very picky about how it's cut as long as it's not to layered and it's still long. HOWEVER, after going to Michelle and living with the cut for a couple months now I'm hooked! My hair looked great when I left and it's grown into the cut really well too (it's been a couple months now). It frames my face well, it has more bounce than it has before and it looks really healthy. And Michelle is a delight to be with. I don't usually write yelp reviews, but Stacy did an awesome job on my hair. I had been going to the same place for years and decided to give Stacy a shot based on a friend's recommendation...and also on the fact that I hadn't tried anything new with my hair for over a decade. PS - I have pretty standard brown hair, it gets some big curls/frizz when I let it grow out and is starting to thin a bit, but overall, I think it's normal dude's hair as far as I can tell. Back to the review...I was there a little early and she was ready for me - no wait. Once I got in the chair, we spent some time discussing different directions we could take my hair in and finally I just told her to do whatever she thought would look best...and I'm glad I did. After a relaxing wash (I heart head massage), she gave me a totally new look and everyone, including me, loves it. She obeyed my few rules: must be low maintenance; must be able to go a while without being cut (that is, look good once it starts to grow out so my cheap ass doesn't have to pay for another haircut until I absolutely have to); and must be fun/different. Her chair-side manner was top notch - very friendly/chill. We spent half the time talking and the other half silent, which is to say, she goes off your lead, which is nice, b/c sometimes I just like to shut up and enjoy my haircut. Anyway, the place itself is clean with good natural light. Definitely function focused though, which is fine, b/c I rather pay for a good haircut than for some expensive fancy-pants crap on a pedestal. Long story short - I'll be back. read more

I found Hair Party on yelp, and went to it one day after botching a boxed hair color to get it fixed. Everyone was very friendly and I came out a couple hours later with a normal, great-looking color. I went back for my next cut, and Jade was great at understanding what I was asking for, explaining what she was doing, and making sure I liked the cut as it progressed. First time I ever left a salon with a blow-dried style that I was actually happy with and wore out that night. She just did a great color for me last month, and trimmed my bangs to last another couple months until my next cut. Alrighty, peeps. Let's start at the beginning: Do NOT let the name of this salon deter you. When my friend first recommended it I was imagining something like Carnival Cuts for adults. It is not that. In fact, it couldn't be further from that. I have been searching for someone to cut my hair in Chicago for 3 years. Seriously, why is it harder than finding a doctor? It's like I don't care who gives me my yearly exam...but I won't go to just ANYONE for a trim.... I have tried so many different places (from Mario Tricoci to Buzz to everything in between) but always end up flying back to Michigan to go to my stylist there (and, uh, see my family....) But my search is over. And Tiffany is my girrrrl. Tiffany is GREAT. I walked in to the salon with a grainy picture on my iPhone that was taken after my most recent Michigan haircut. Tiffany played with my hair a little, asked me a few questions, and got to work. And I don't know HOW she did it, but she gave me exactly what I wanted (which I know for a fact I wasn't very good at explaining). She listened to me, she only cut an inch when she said she'd only cut an inch, and she gave me the cutest bangs I've had in a long time. And can we just talk about the blow out? AMAZING. So amazing, in fact, that a stranger stopped me on my bus ride back to Lakeview to ask me where I got my hair done and what their phone number is. The only reason I'm not giving this place 5 stars is because there is no receptionist and everyone books their own appointments. So...it can get a little tricky to get a hold of the person you want. BUT, once you go, you'll have Tiffany's personal cell phone number, so booking in the future is a breeze. If you're looking for some ritzy salon, Hair Party is not for you. But if you're looking for someone who does great work, will give you a beer while she does that great work and won't charge you some ridiculous amount for that great work... Get thee to Tiffany. Their new loft setting feels more like a spa experience with hand treated floors, high ceilings, and walls colored to set off an artist's (client) oversized photograph that fully explains their name. I've been going to see Michele for hair cuts for almost 5 years now. She is a rock star. I have the craziest, curliest, most out-of-control hair ever and previous stylists would look like they wanted to vomit when I walked in. Not Michele. She is always really enthusiastic about cutting my hair, gives me a fabulous cut and style, and then tells me about how she wishes she had curly hair too. (Really, Michele, you don't. Promise.) I live on the south side and drive all the way there every few months because I refuse to let anyone else touch my hair. Recently I have also had the pleasure of having Mary do the a keratin treatment on my hair. That girl has the patience of a saint. The process takes nearly three hours and as I mentioned a moment ago, I have crazy, curly, out of control hair. She wrestles with it for three hours and voila! My hair is straight and shiny and looks like a Pantene commercial. I love this treatment. Even though the curl comes back once you wash it, it is a kinder, gentler curl than I am used to, sans frizz. Michele and Mary have totally saved my butt. Er, hair. I'll never go anywhere else. Michele has also done great color on my sister and about a million other people I know, so although I haven't had that done personally I can vouch for her color skills. read more

Jennee Miller is the bomb. (I made this Yelp account solely so I could write a review for her and Hair Party.) Let me begin with some backstory. I'm a long-hair girl. I've never had a short haircut in my life that I liked. I went to another salon (whose name I will not mention here) two days ago, and chopped off my waist-length hair to donate. To put it bluntly, I wasn't satisfied. My hair was about to my collarbones at that point, but it had too much volume around the crown of my head and flipped out at the ends to create a weird helmet soccer-mom-hair shape - exactly what I was trying to avoid. I was considering getting it fixed up, so I trolled Yelp for at least an hour and a half this morning reading reviews. Hair Party looked promising based on all of the glowing testimonials, so I called them around noon to ask about their rates. The person on the phone was very nice and explained to me that all of the stylists book their own schedules, so if I knew which one of them I wanted to cut my hair, she would have that stylist call me back with her availability. I asked for Jennee, and the person on the phone took my name and number and said that Jennee would call me back once she was finished with her client. About an hour later, Jennee called and said that she could fit me in for an 8:15pm appointment. (The salon itself actually closes at 8:00 - she was cool with starting me 15 minutes after that!) I told her that it would be fine and we settled on that appointment. I live in the South Side, so I left quite early for my appointment to get dinner downtown on the way. I ended up not stopping for the meal though, so I was going to be early for the appointment. Lo and behold, Jennee had sent me a text saying that she would be finished with her client before me at 7:45, so she could start with me then if I could make it. I was still about 15 minutes early, so when I walked into the salon, I sat in the waiting area and read some magazines. The overall atmosphere was great, very chill and all of the stylists were chatty and cool. I was in the chair by 7:43pm. Jennee asked me what I wanted to do with my hair, and I had some pretty specific requests - thin out the ends, which were very blunt/square-looking and heavy, reduce some of the volume around the crown of my head, and overall to get my hair to fall straight down instead of flipping out weirdly. Jennee took one look at my hair and agreed immediately with my comment about the ends of my hair, and said that she could easily thin that out a bit. The crown of my head, however, was going to be more of a problem since it was caused by the top layer of my hair being too short, so I would have to wait for that to grow out a bit. As it happens, though, she ended up pretty much eliminating that problem anyway. Throughout the haircut, Jennee was very easy to talk to and kept the ball rolling by asking me questions about myself. We found out that we'd both lived in Tokyo for periods of our lives (how cool is that?). She explained to me what she was doing to my hair as she did it, and followed my requests while adding just enough of her own personal liberties to make my hair look good. I no longer have any of the bulkiness around the ends of my hair and my bangs fall perfectly. I'm generally not the kind of person who has a "regular" hairstylist because I get my hair cut at salons so infrequently, but I think Jennee's my go-to now. I was out the door by 8:12 - less than half an hour! In total, it wasn't cheap, but it was definitely affordable. I am very happy with my haircut and the overall experience, and would recommend Hair Party and Jennee Miller to anyone. read more

I came in last week and saw Melissa M. Last week to get some highlights done. She did amazing! I wasn't even exactly sure what I wanted for color, but she did better then I could have imagined. She is a young, newer stylist so she has some great ideas for what is hot right now and modern. I had very dark, almost black hair and wanted something different. I like dying my own hair and experimenting but it was great to have a professsional make it look, well, professional! Melissa put highlights in all over, and added a toner. The result was a pretty, caramel color with a lot of dimension. I've had the same hair color for 2 years so I'm super happy to finally have a change and be feeling spring and summer ready! She has very affordable prices, especially compared to the average price you could end up paying in Chicago. Furthermore, Melissa took great care of me and was wonderful to talk to. I was referred by a few of my coworkers who see her for cut and colors on a regular basis. Now I am happy to have a stylist in Chicago that I can trust, and afford!
