I went in for a cut, my first time getting a cut in a salon since way before Covid. (I'm just that lazy) I'm always nervous going to a new, hip place, because I am neither new nor hip, so I get intimidated. Not a problem at Hair Apothecary because everyone there was super friendly. I emailed the salon and got a quick response from the owner, Andrea. She asked a few questions about my hair type-length and texture and paired me with Jude, who specializes in curly hair. The salon has a cool vibe. Jude was warm and welcoming and listened to all of my hair concerns - I have some hair loss due to menopause. She gave me a wonderful cut and was good about talking about products to use and how to style it. I mentioned that I had been considering coloring my hair for the first time ever, and she asked me for my inspo pix and booked me another appointment. Three days later, I stepped out of that salon a whole new Tory! I look and feel like my young and sassy self. I LOVE MY HAIR! I love Hair Apothecary! I love Jude! read more

I am so happy I found Hair Apothecary. The staff is very friendly and welcoming. I've been seeing Heather for about 6 months and she does an amazing job cutting my curls! Heather referred me to Andrea, the salon owner, for a Trichology consult, since I was losing a lot of hair. (I previously had seen my dermatologist who had made recommendations, but I was still shedding and had an inflamed scalp. ) Andrea looked at my scalp and made suggestions for my scalp health and to regrow hair. I am not only thrilled with the amount of hair growth I've had, but also- my scalp is no longer inflamed and hurting. I could not be more thankful for finding this salon and for both Heather and Andrea! read more

It's a coronavirus world. And it'd been 5 months since I had a cut and color. So here's how this goes: - You must wear a mask. - Temperature check at the door. - Hand sanitizer squirted on you at the door. - Capes are single-use only. - Staff wear masks and and sanitize themselves and absolutely everything. - Half capacity and social distancing. No other clients were near me and there were only two other clients there. - Medical grade air purifier. Plus fans at every station. While my color was processing, I was able to go out to their back patio and enjoy the weather. The patio is super cute and comfy. (And you can take your mask off out there if you want.) No one else was out on the patio with me. All the precautions were taken. And my hair, as usual, is beautiful. Bobby, as always, is super wonderful. And they're doing a great job to keep everyone safe. So if you're worried (like me) about getting your hair done in this new world, know that this place is doing their part and it's ok. Plus, I just feel dramatically different and happier after having gone 5 months without getting a cut or color (I'm normally on a ~2 month schedule). So now I can go back to staying safely at home with a happier view of myself. read more

I moved into the neighborhood and met the stylists because they noticed my dog. Have been getting my hair cut there since then. I don't have much extra money these days so Daniel is great with giving me an amazing cut/style that lasts awhile. Incredibly nice, fun staff. So glad I found them! read more

Highly recommend Daniel! Very happy with cut and color that he's done! The salon is very welcoming (they offer wine and top you off when you're low, amazing!). I usually hate getting my hair done (the actual experience) but I really enjoy going to Hair Apothecary! read more

Best salon. I'm late to review. I had a bad hair cut from different salon that I was too uncomfortable to go to work. I sent an email very early got a respond right away but I didn't read it then I did but figured I missed the time so I called. Right away I got an appointment everyone in the salon was so helpful checking what's the best to correct the cut. My hair got saved I can't thank enough! I'm going again for sure this is my salon now for sure. Everyone works there is amazing I felt I went to best friend family place. Also it's beautiful and cozy and clean read more

Great haircut! Highly recommend this place. They got me in same day, which I appreciated.

Bobby did a fantastic job on my highlights! The salon is a neighborhood gem. Great service and good hearted/kind people working there.

Don't hesitate. You won't regret booking at this place. Changed my life and they talked me through all the options of my color correction. I saw Daniel and he is an amazing colorist over 10 years of experience and equally as impressive with the scissors. Can't wait to go back :) read more

Great haircut, awesome conversation, affordable prices! I was excited that they were able to fit me in during the busy holiday season. The space is warm and comfy. Heather did a great job with my curls. I'm usually intimidated by salon chair small talk, but had a really wonderful and genuine conversation with Heather. Will be back! read more

I followed Bobby here from the last salon he worked at. Compared to the other place, Hair Apothecary is a super chic, welcoming salon! They've done a really nice job with the interior mixing old and new. Everyone is super friendly here and not awkward at all. I've been going to Bobby for many years now and he is great at his craft. read more

Love Bobby and the work he does. 70s porn star vibes all the way! Glad he made me jump into curtain bangs and layers!

My stylist for - well forever moved salons. She is so good I'll follow her anywhere! Jude is a truly gifted stylist. She is meticulous in her work. She also has a true gift for fixing mistakes - I've made a few. The salon itself is small and perfect. It's adorable. Well designed. I'm in love with the furniture in particular. In the area there are a lot of restaurants and a ton of street parking. This salon is local and female owned! Yay! The group of stylists are talented and they know their stuff. I am definitely a lifer with Jude - I hope Jude is a lifer at this salon! I'm a huge fan! read more

I'm incredibly picky about who I let touch my hair. After spending months recovering from thinning hair due to menopause and stress, and letting another stylist convince me that my signature long layers would no longer work on my hair because it had thinned, I called Hair Apothecary. From Katie, the receptionist, who listened carefully to what I said I was looking for, to Jude, the stylist who Katie set me up with for a free consultation and who ultimately brought layers back to my medium-length hair and gave me a root-touchup, my experience at Hair Apothecary was stellar. I went in on a wish and a prayer and came out with the best cut and color I've had in ages. read more

Amazing. So grateful for these guys. Bobby fixed my horrific heart after a nightmare experience the day before. Bobby is warm, funny, and a jair therapist. A Hairapist? Lol. Anyway, Highly HIGHLY recommend!!! read more

I was recommended by a close friend to see Andrea. Meeting Andrea has been such a blessing as she provides good suggestions when I want to go for a particular hair color or haircut. She knows so much about hair color treatment and has selected such a wonderful color for my skin tone. I've never had so many compliments as I've had after visiting this salon. The vibe, music and artistic design alone in this salon is also great reason to visit. During COVID, they will take your temperature and you must use hand sanitizer and wear a mask. read more

Some of the best people I've met run hair Apothecary. I followed Heather to her new salon and I absolutely love everyone who works there. I have textured, thick, curly hair, and I always ALWAYS always get amazing work done by their team. If you are looking for someone with coloring and cutting expertise with curly hair, Heather is a great choice! Pics added to show heathers amazing work! :) read more

Bobby, the only person I trust to touch my hair as of late, has made another one of my dreams come true. I had a vision of a dark, strawberry blonde, with copper and a color melt. He knew EXACTLY what he was doing. The color is fantastic. Bobby is fantastic. Reasonably priced for the highlights and all over color. I can't imagine going to anyone else while living in Chicago. Finding the right hairdresser here is harder than trying to park in the winter when someone stole your dibs. So what I'm saying is it's sacred. I love how he listens to what I want and then also gives suggestions, if I don't agree with his suggestion we move forward, he knows how to work client centered while still delivering beautiful art. But my word of advice is that if you do get your hair done by him, follow his advice. I'm been floored with how amazingly beautiful my hair has looked since working with Bobby. I'm feeling more confident and beautiful and it's just great. And end all be all, Bobby is just a nice person to hang around when your color is lifting. He's nice and funny but respectful. We listened to 80's music in this adorable salon off Irving park. Every everyone go to Bobby read more

Hair Apothecary is the epitome of the small-business American Dream. Highly experienced stylists scrape together their life earnings to open their own salon and participate in the local community, BRAVO! Hair Apothecary is taking every necessary precaution for COVID. A previous reviewer below was super thorough in listing it all out so I'd refer to that! I never felt unsafe, unclean, or unhappy with ANY of my visits there. (I've been a customer for about 1.5yrs) My partner and I get our hair done by Bobby, who is one of the most personable and funny stylists I've ever had. If you need some TLC after a long quarantine, definitely book an appt at Hair Apothecary! read more

Having a haircut here is like visiting with good friends. Everyone is so kind and helpful. Andrea is the perfect host.

I have been seeing Andrea since before she started Hair Apothecary. She is my go-to for amazing hair. Whenever I go we talk about what I want done. I have gone from long to pixie cut. I have gone from bleach blonde to dark auburn. She's also helped me grow my hair out when I've decided to go long again. If she thinks a style or color won't work the shape of my face or my coloring she tells me. She knows her stuff. I also would not drive all the way from Highland Park to Chicago for some who was just ok at her job. Their salon is always clean and the staff is super friendly. I highly recommend! read more

I've been going to Andrea for over 15 years and have never been disappointed. I don't trust anyone else with my hair. The salon is cozy and clean, and I know there's always a good listening ear waiting for me. Can't recommend enough! read more

Andrea has been doing my cut and color for a long time. Only once have I have I strayed and lived to regret it! Every time she does my hair I am showered by compliments. It's good for my ego and good for her business. :) Over the years I have referred friends and family who discover why I have been with her for so long! I know the other stylists do great work as well. Check them out! read more

Modern, clean and personable. I've known the owner of this salon for some time and she couldn't have made a better space. Thankfully for me, she brought my favorite stylist with her. Bobby has been cutting my hair since 2005. (We were so young and fun back then!) He has given me edgy cuts, stylish cuts and easy cuts. He is a master behind the blades. And he will make you laugh like a teenager. I found Bobby because I asked for "the best short hair stylist." And he has lived up to it ever since. Bobby also does amazing color and isn't afraid tooc put his (professional) two cents in if you need guidance. He will shape your hair to best fit you - what more could you ask for? Right off the Irving Park brown line, the location couldn't be better. Nestled near North Center's growing brewery corridor, you can grab a local growler before or after your appointment and then visit one of the area's many restaurants. If you're looking for a new spot to get your hair did, you've found it. read more

Heather does an incredible job on men's hair. I've been a Heather loyalist for years!

Andrea is a lovely, kind, and a talented hair stylist. Highly recommend this salon and services!

Just left from getting my haircut by Daniel. I got in his chair and immediately felt like we were old friends. He gave me a phenomenal (very overdue) cut! I found Hair Apothecary by chance and I'm certain I won't go anywhere else now! read more

Heather cuts my hair here and I've never had a bad cut! I need a lot of layering (very thick hair) and I have an undercut, so sometimes I have to talk hairdressers into giving me the cut I want, but not heather! She listens to your experience with your own hair, and does a phenomenal job giving a low matinence and cute cut! She also will trim up undercuts for her clients in between full on haircuts, which is incredibly convenient when your hair grows as fast as mine. Cost-conscious punks come here! read more

I called Hair Apothecary the morning after a discount chain hacked my hair basically into a mullet. Bobby graciously got me in that evening. I live 2 blocks away which is a plus. This salon is female owned and the stylists really get along and take care of their customers. Bobby gave me an awesome cut and fixed what he could while educating me about the fixes and how it would look in the future. I love knowing what's going on and he's very open about every step of your cut. He turned my horror story into a nice fresh start! I have to admit I was sticker shocked at the price coming from a cheap chain, but it's worth it to get the right cut the first time (and every time after that). Your hair is just too vital to your identity. You won't go wrong with Bobby he'll give you your best haircut! Highly recommend. read more

I was thrilled to check out the new salon and was not disappointed. Beautiful decor, friendly environment and amazing staff. Bobby does fantastic work (so good that I followed him to this location)! I've been going to Hair Apothecary regularly since it opened -- it is by far the best salon I've ever gone to. Andrea is the queen of hair color! They treat everyone respectfully. They were much safer than most businesses during the worst of the pandemic (air filters, masks, hand sanitizer, limited number of people). It is a gem for our neighborhood. read more

Feeling lucky that I stumbled upon this place one day during my lunch break and decided to have Bobby do my hair! This salon is awesome! Go see my girl Jude for all your color needs. She's taken care of all my premature greys! I don't think I'll ever go anywhere else. I was so anxious on my most recent visit (6/30) since not really being out in several months but I felt so safe. My temperature was taken at the door and was offered hand sanitizer. The staff diligently cleaned all of the chairs, equipment and hair wash stations with the blue light and cleaning sprays not just between clients but even during the appointment. Even more of a reason to love this place!! read more

Andrea has been doing my hair for several years now, so I was excited to see the new space. It's turned out really nice. And with Andrea, I always come out looking fabulous! The salon has a fun, welcoming and relaxed vibe, as the whole team has worked to make a great space.
