Stopped by 399 Vietnamese Kitchen to check out their Orange County Restaurant Week menu and it did not disappoint. We ordered a few items to share and everything came out fresh and well prepared. The chả giò (egg rolls) were crispy and a great starter, and the bánh bột lọc tapioca dumplings had a really nice texture. For mains, the bún chả Hà Nội was one of our favorites with flavorful grilled pork and fresh herbs. Portions were generous and the menu made it easy to try a mix of classic Vietnamese dishes. Overall a great spot if you're craving authentic Vietnamese flavors in OC. Would definitely come back to try more of the menu.

I tried 399 Vietnamese Kitchen during Orange County Restaurant Week and ordered from their $25 OC Week lunch menu, which was such a good deal for the amount of food you get. For my order, I got the combination pho, which came with their Rocket Ship appetizer, and the portion was super satisfying. The broth was rich and flavorful, and the appetizer was a fun, crispy start to the meal. I also tried the vermicelli with chicken and pork, which came with an eggroll appetizer. The meats were nicely grilled and paired perfectly with the fresh vermicelli and veggies. Another dish we had was the chicken and rice plate, which came with tofu eggrolls on the side. Everything felt like a full meal on its own, and the lunch menu made it easy to try multiple dishes. If you go for dinner, they also have a $55 menu for two people where you can choose two entrées, one appetizer, and one drink, or two appetizers, one entrée, and one drink, which is another great option if you're sharing. Overall, it's a great spot if you want classic Vietnamese dishes with generous portions, and the Restaurant Week menus make it even more worth trying.

you could tell fake reviews from real ones. the dead giveaway is when they have only 1 review or they give 1 and 5 star reviews and rarely give 2,3,4 stars. however, most people don't read reviews and only look at the star rating. businesses have figured out how to game the reviews to attack their competition. i'm here because my cat is at the vet. got lucky as happy hour starts at 2pm decor is very nice, restrooms smell like candy...probably from the soap they use. very clean. normally the pork chops are 20 but during happy hour it's 16 and i have a soft spot for vietnamese pork chops. the water carafe is stylish but you have to pour slowly or u will make a mess. the food took a while so the server came by and offered me a free drink. places that are 3.5 stars don't offer free stuff when you are inconvenienced so imho, the true rating of this place should be higher and this is great service. at other places, vietnamese pork chops probably would have cost 17 but don't forget we are in irvine and the landlord is a greedy mofo and collects high rent so 20 for non-happy hour pricing is probably fair. however during happy hour at 16 is pretty good. all in all, i had a very good experience and will return

My favorite Vietnamese restaurant in OC!! The meats were so flavorful and juicy and perfectly complimented the vermicelli sheets! Would recommend ordering those if you're looking for a switch up from your regular vermicelli noodles- I liked the texture it added. Portions of everything are huge, and the amount of veggies makes the meal feel very fresh and healthy. Tried the eggrolls too and they were a highlight- loved the light flaky exterior and how packed the inside filling was. The interior is spacious and well-decorated, could see it being a nice spot for a special occasion but also for a casual bite! Will be back to try all the other menu items- I wanted everything here

Was looking for ramen but ended up at Tustin Market Place and decided to come for Pho. The food was surprisingly good. The loaded fries was not traditional but the combination of grilled pork, veggies french fries and sauce was delicious and a good idea. I would have it again. My daughter had the wok fried noodle add grilled pork $22 (pricy in my opinion) but she gave it a 9/10. I had the grilled pork vermicelli noodle $18 it was 8/10 good. My other daughter had the meat ball pho $18. I tried the pho broth and it was good. Our total bill with tip is $91.88, no drinks for 4 people. That is pricy. The restaurant was clean and staff offered good service. I would recommend and come here again just expect to pay more than other restaurants.

We read about 399 and wanted to give it a try. Craving a goof Bahn Mi, I ordered the grilled pork version. It was really tasty with a bit of kick. We also ordered the fried tofu and egg roll vermicelli which was also very good. Could have used a bit more sauce but very good. I ordered the iced Vietnamese iced coffee which was strong but sweet. The only downside was the homeless guy sitting on the wall right outside the window staring at us the entire time. Awkward. But overall, it was good and we'll certainly be back k when in the area.

If you've been following me here on Yelp, you know I take pride in giving you my honest-to-goodness assessment--not just on the food, service, and ambiance, but also on something we all care about: parking. So let's start there. PARKING To my fellow high-heel lovers, be prepared to walk a bit from your parking spot to the restaurant. That said, there's plenty of parking, and I absolutely love that we don't have to deal with a cramped structure or pay $10 just to leave our car. Big win! SERVICE Excellent. The woman who assisted me was incredibly kind and informative. She walked me through items I wasn't familiar with, and when I asked for extra peanut sauce, it was no problem at all. FOOD Since it was my first time here, I went for their Brodard Spring Rolls. Each order comes with two large rolls packed with steamed shrimp, pork, lettuce, vermicelli noodles, mint, chives, and cucumber--wrapped in delicate rice paper. I love rice paper! If you've never had it and you're watching your weight, trust me, you NEED to try it. AMBIANCE It feels cozy--modern yet warm and inviting. The space is large and can easily accommodate over 50 guests. Perfect for foodie meetups! There are even outdoor tables where you can enjoy the beautiful California sunshine and the calming sound of the big water fountain at the entrance.

Today I order the beef brisket pho. There's hair inside? And no taste for the soup, no bean sprouts, no green peppers, no lemon. It usually comes as a bag of veggies but nothing for this time, and there's hair inside the pho , and I can't eat anything. I don't believe this worth $17. Worst experiences ever

This is a hidden gem !!! One of the best beef belly pho I have had in Irvine!! The ice tea was just perfect !!!!!! & the rocket shrimp wow I can eat 10000 of them they were so crunchy and flavorful!!!!! I will definitely be back for more

This is a one and done for me. I had the pork Banh Mi sandwich and two egg rolls. The pork in the Banh Mi was lacking in flavor and was over priced. The egg rolls were tiny and didn't look like Vietnamese egg rolls I've had at other places and friends houses. I can get double the food for the same price at THH. Their food also has more flavor. The service her was a little slow too.

We visited around noon for lunch, and the restaurant wasn't very busy. Despite that, the service was extremely slow. it took about 20 minutes to receive our food, and we had only ordered one bowl each. The staff, though young and somewhat attentive, moved at a very relaxed pace. The pho was just okay, and each bowl cost $20, which felt pricey, though understandable given the location. The ambience was pleasant and spacious, but overall, I don't think I'll be returning.

I was really, really excited to try this restaurant after seeing the menu and spotting a few home comfort food dishes that aren't typical of other Vietnamese restaurants, plus some unique dishes. However, our first, and only experience with this establishment turned out to be a total let-down. First off we ordered two lychee green teas, nem nuong cuon (pork spring rolls), and the nui xao bo luc lac (filet mignon stir fry rice macaroni) to share. The tea and spring rolls were great, no complaints there, but then our main dish came out and it wasn't what we ordered. When questioning the staff multiple times about the incorrect order, they informed us that this is what we confirmed with them (they heard "mi xao" and not "nui xao") and there was nothing more they could do for us. Okay, I will accept that I should've properly confirmed the order instead of assuming they heard me correctly. I am Vietnamese American, I grew up eating at restaurants that don't exactly provide good service but still good food. So let's just forget about all that for a second and talk about the dish that did come out. We received the mi xao bo luc lac, which is filet mignon with garlic noodles. The "garlic" noodles were completely flavorless, not a hint of garlic or even butter anywhere on them. The texture was both mushy (overcooked) and crispy (fried) at the same time, and it was absolutely drenched in oil. The large cubes of filet mignon were inconsistent. Some pieces were more tender, but most pieces were rubbery, tough, and extremely hard to chew. This was one of the worst restaurant meals we've ever eaten, and to top it all off, this rubbery, flavorless, oily dish cost us THIRTY! TWO! DOLLARS!!! And we didn't even order it!!! I had such high hopes for this restaurant. I was excited about a restaurant serving nui xao, a comfort food dish I grew up eating at home. I knew it would be expensive, but we like patronizing small businesses, and I expected good quality at the price point. We got one of the most expensive items on the menu, and it was pure slop. With many dishes between $25-$35, this place is a rip-off, nothing more. We will be patronizing elsewhere with businesses that not only have edible food at fair prices, but also provide us warm and friendly service.

This place is hidden but AMAZING. My mom and I went on Sunday and we very impressed. First off the brisket pho. SOOOOO GOOD. Tender meat Nothing to beat. Then the salmon shaken was great too the sauce over the top. Lastly the vegetarian spring rolls. Gigantic things and amazing!! Everything was fresh and obviously made there and then. This review is only for their Vermicelli and Bahn Mi! (I typically go to other restaurants for pho, so I'm not sure how 399's pho are.) My boyfriend and I love their Grilled Pork and Egg Roll Vermicelli ($16), as well as their Grilled Pork Bahn Mi ($10). The portions are pretty big and the dishes are very simple yet delicious. They do take awhile to make, but we don't mind too much. The workers there are super nice as well. Again, not sure how their pho is, but it's 5 out of 5 for us for their vermicelli and bahn mi, and their customer service! read more

We went during soft opening, so this review will be with a grain of salt. We arrived right before a large dinner rush so we were quite lucky. Orders are taken at the front and you bring your number to a table. I was expecting a more traditional sit down place, but it's understandable since this location is full of casual food spots. Ambience and decor are good. We ordered the vermicelli, spring rolls, and brisket pho. The vermicelli came out much quicker than the other dishes due to how packed the restaurant was. It had a good amount of noodles with condiments and flavor was decent. The pork spring rolls were not very good in comparison to others I have had, and the pho was quite disappointing in terms of quantity to price ratio. The flavor of the pho was average, nothing special. Overall, too expensive for average Vietnamese cuisine. If its so casual, the prices have to be lower. There are much better spots all over Orange County. read more

I was interested in trying this place after seeing it on social media. In fact, I drove quite far. The food was tasty and nice presentation. However, the service was very disappointing. For a nearly empty restaurant, it was disappointing to have to keep asking or reminding our waiter of what we wanted. The only helpful person wasn't even our waiter. I appreciate good food but not when service is poor. read more

A solid option for Vietnamese food locally at the Marketplace. The banh mi is tasty although more dry than I would prefer. It might benefit from more sauce to add moisture and flavor to the sandwich. Also suggest making it a full lunch combination offering with chips and a drink at additional cost. The goi cuon rice paper rolls will inevitably be compared to other options around OC. These fit the bill if you have a craving for them although it make lack a more the more in depth flavor profile that it would be compared against. The fruit slushes are a delightful addition to the meal so don't miss having them! read more

Looks good, probably tastes good, but I haven't been actually eat there after being turned away twice while they were open for another 45 minutes and 58 minutes respectively. If you don't close as 9 just post that, but turning down someone who drove 30 minutes to try a place because they walked in at 8:02 it's a ridiculous way to run a business. read more

Current rating of 3.5 stars is pretty spot on. Food isn't bad, I'm a big fan of the sandwiches. Unfortunately, the service leaves quite a bit to be desired especially for orders to pick up. I think it's a relatively new restaurant/team, so if you don't mind an extra unexpected wait as they get through their growing pains, it's worth a visit to try for yourself. I'll also probably come back in a few months just to check up on it. read more

It was really bad... my wife and I ordered egg rolls and two combination PHOes. The eggrolls came out COLD! We let the server know, and she apologized and told us they would bring us new ones. Ten minutes later, the same eggrolls came out mildly heated and still cold. We were so confused and asked what had happened. She apologized again and asked us if we wanted new ones... I mean... yeah...? But then again, we had finished our PHOes. We also ordered Thai iced tea, and that one came out so sweet that I was unedible. I am sorry I have to write this, but I wanted to warn others about this place. The bill btw came out to $60+. They refunded $12 for the eggrolls, but we had already pre-tipped $12+ (you must pay first there). Not going back... no way. read more

Forst time here and the ambiance is very welcoming. Spacious and seats are comfortable. I tried the Brisket Pho and the flavor was great with good quality meat. The spring tolls were good too. Will come back to try their Bahn Mi next time as the couple sitting next to us had it and it looked really good too. read more

The long wait and anticipation for a tasty high quality Vietnamese food in Irvine is now here. I have taken my family here a few times. The food have been excellent of good quality meat and ingredients. We had Beef Pho, Vermicelli BBQ pork, and Lechee Lemonade. It's truly quality over quantity. Enjoy ggod wholesome traditional Vietnamese food. The owner was sweet and made aure we enjoyed the meal. They are planning to introduce more dishes in thebnear future. Will be back regularly. read more

Great new spot, super clean and small but mighty menu! The plain pho was super tasty and temperature was perfect. I paired it with the spring roll with a generous serving of peanut sauce. Super fresh! My friend had the combo vermicelli and it was super hearty and fresh ingredients. Dylan and Elijah were super helpful and so professional. Loved finding a pho place that was super clean inside and convenient location. read more

Really wanted to try this place but sadly they refused to take an over the phone pick up order 50 minutes before closing. The employee was very polite but whoever it was in the background saying to refuse the order sounded very rude and I am guessing that was a supervisor. My pho in Orange and Pho Vina in Anaheim Hills will continue to get my business from now on. read more

True comforts of home cooking, very much like my mom used to make. Rocket shrimp was crispy on the outside with perfectly tender meat. Vermicelli noodle bowl and grilled pork plate were so refreshing on a muggy summer evening. Generous portiions. Our server Cynthia was absolutely delightful. She was so attentive and professional. I went there for lunch. I had beef brisket pho. The broth and noodle tasted ok, but the beef brisket was extremely tough and dry. I ate one piece after repeated chewing and chewing. It was like chewing a piece of plastic. I could not eat another piece. It was definitely the worst beef brisket that I've ever had. What a great disappointment! What a waste of money! read more

Got the oxtail pho and combination pho and both were good! Their lychee drink is refreshing, would recommend. Prices are a bit higher compared to Garden Grove pho restaurants but they're located in Irvine at the Marketplace which explains why. I don't mind as now I don't have to drive as far for good Vietnamese food. read more

Was recommended by a friend one day, I've never really tried pho or any authentic Vietnamese food and this place really shocked me. The beef brisket pho is one of my personal favorites, it's flavorful broth taste extravagant along with the soft and tender beef which adds so much flavor. I recommend adding extra tendon which was also really good. The scenery is also aesthetically pleasing and the service is so nice, would definitely recommend to a friend and I look forward to going in the future. read more

First things first, you PAY when you ORDER, so if you don't like your food- or there's BUGS in your Pho like me, you have to wait 5-7 business days to return your money. 16$ for a small bowl of sour pho with dark cloudy broth. I DO NOT recommend this place. Save your money, and your appetite and go to a real viet place. read more

Visited this place for a soft opening and it has earned itself a chance for me to go back once they open up fully. couple things worth noting is that the pho i ordered did not come with bean sprouts which they apologized for. understandable since its a soft opening. The pho broth was seasoned well which is a good measuring stick for how good a pho will be. additionally the vermicelli dish was good. soft noodles and well seasoned and tender meat with good ratios of vegetables. The prices here are a bit steep especially considering its viet food. $14 for a bowl of pho is $1-2 dollars over what i'd be willing to pay. Overall will try again once they open up fully. A very good quality pho/viet place to grab a quick bite. read more

We tried this restaurant recently and were more than impressed! The food was fantastic. Since our order was to go, it was a nice surprise to find ample amounts of peanut sauce and dressings. The order was ready on time and the staff was polite. All the rolls were sizable and tasted great. The bun dish was flavorful as well. Some of the best prepared tofu we've had in a long while! We'd highly recommend 399 Vietnamese Kitchen and will definitely be back! read more

History

Established in 2022.

The inspiration for this name came from the house that Hong's grandfather built himself in Vietnam in 1953. Every family recipe was passed on to Nguyen by watching her grandma prepare traditional dishes in the kitchen of their Saigon home with the address of 399. Mention one of her family recipes, and the name send her eyes towards the sky. Having so many fond memories growing up in this home, out of reverence and honor of her grandparents, she wanted to create an environment just like she had growing up. "399" is this: the product of so much dedication as is a labor of love.

Horrible Experience at 399 Vietnamese Kitchen I had the unfortunate experience of dining at 399 Vietnamese Kitchen in Tustin, and I have to say, it was one of the worst food and customer service experiences I've ever had. My friend and I stopped by the Tustin Market for lunch--she went to Poke Bowl, and I decided to try this place. I ordered the shrimp fried rice, and what should have been a quick, satisfying meal turned into a 30-minute ordeal. My friend was already finished and waiting for me, which should have been my first hint that things were off. When I finally received my order, I was utterly appalled. The shrimp in my fried rice was not deveined and consisted of tiny baby shrimp. I've never encountered such a thing at a restaurant before. It was unappetizing and frankly disgusting. I immediately asked for a refund, expecting at least some level of courtesy or professionalism. Instead, they refused to refund me outright and offered to recook the dish, claiming they would try to remove the "poop" in the shrimp. No apology, no offer of a gift card, nothing. The manager never came out to speak with me, and I was left feeling insulted and disappointed. I couldn't wait any longer, so I paid around $25 for the shrimp fried rice, plus tip, totaling roughly $30 for a meal I didn't even eat. This place has the worst customer service I've experienced and subpar, unsanitary food. I would never recommend this restaurant to anyone, and I certainly will not be returning. Unreal sat down only three tables and they took about 10 min to take our order we actually had to go up and ask the to come over they finally take our order 1 whole freaking hr later no food but other people around us served that came in after us. we asked many times update and they didn't know what was going on we never got our appetizer but finally got rice and egg rolls and sandwich missing half our order still after 1 hr which it took deliver to us. I have no clue how this restaurant stays in business with service like this and what do they do still charge us for the food we got that was not hot barely warm. Disgusting the service received will never go there again. Once of the worst restaurants for service ever been to and I am a huge foodie been to over in OC 300 + restaurants along with San Diego and other countries.. This is by far one of the top 5 worst restaurants been to with customer service. The foods we did get was overly salted and overpriced... Grosss!!! After a long week of work and school, my family and I wanted to celebrate the end of the week--and my son's first week of Fall Quarter at UCI--with delicious, authentic Vietnamese cuisine in a modern, relaxing setting. 399 Kitchen delivered it all! We enjoyed the beef pho, shrimp egg rolls, rice with grilled pork chops, seafood wok noodles, and a grilled pork banh mi. During happy hour all drinks are just $3.99, so we treated ourselves to Vietnamese iced coffee, iced Thai tea, and an iced lychee lemonade. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and authentically prepared. I also love the restaurant's clean, modern décor and calming vibe. Service was friendly and quick, making the evening even better. We also love it that it's located in the safe, clean Tustin Marketplace plaza with lots of parking. I'll definitely be back whenever I'm craving authentic Vietnamese food in Irvine! read more

I was so excited for this restaurant to open and when it did, I knew I had to try it. I took my husband and 3 kids there and they absolutely loved it. The Oxtail Pho and Combination Pho is absolutely to die for, the brisket and rare beef are so delightfully chewy and flavorful. They have the best Thai tea in town and I am definitely bringing my siblings here. I thought this place was pretty good. A banh mi is only 11 dollars? In this economy? That's such a deal. I mean that's like almost as cheap as cooking for yourself. Surviving these days is such a scam. I'll never understand how we let everything cost so much and just go along with it. Anyways everyone should try out this restaurant before it closes down.
