Even know I live in the North end now, I still try to come to the 21 once a week. It's dark, but not too dark, just the way I like it. And low ceilings. I especially like that they've re-done the bathrooms. It's like a dive bar, but without all the shady characters that come with a dive bar. There will be at least 2 guys at the bar that look like Ted Kennedy at any given time of the day. It's also pretty cool that the owner is also the bartender. They pour a good Guinness, and the food is pretty good, but lets face it, you don't come to the 21 for the food. read more

Surprisingly great margaritas. It's not like fresh-squeezed lime juice margs, but still very tasty and surprising for a beer joint. The bartender said the sliders were everyone's favorite, and I have to agree. They were tasty. Probably some of the best sliders I've had. read more

Went here for the first time with a few friends. The cocktails had no prices on the menu but my Mule and my friends' Ward 8 ended up being $11, not as bad as I thought. Yet, a little strange. went here post dinner saturday night with a big group of friends. the waitress was very accomdating with getting us a table big enough and the service was prompt and friendly. we all got well priced beers. the vibe there is very laid back, i would certianly come back with any sized group. the music selection was good (reminded me of a place i used to frequent in london) but the volume was too loud. not exactly good for conversation, to which the atmospshere lends itself (no dance floor). my friend jason LOVES this place, so i will trust his judgement and give it the extra star. i am sure i will be back. read more

The only times that I ever really have gone hear have been for trivia night. The trivia is a great time, but the place can get really packed, so make sure you at least send a member of the team early to stake out a spot for everyone. It is a great place to spend a cold winter night with a group of friends since the place has a cozy feel to it in the side room. Those nights are great for one of their grilled cheese sandwiches (add tomato and bacon) and some soup. read more

Great food, great drinks and all at a decent price! I came here with a bunch of my friends on a Friday night and they were more than happy to accommodate us. They do not take reservations but if you call about 2 hours before your party is to arrive, they'll do a pretty good job, getting your table set up and reserved for you before your party gets there. The servers are super friendly and their menu offers a good variety (buffalo nachos, burgers, steak tips, etc.) Beers were quite cheap. Six dollars for a smuttynose or a shipyard pumpkin. This place seems to fill up around five when all the office people come out and need to drink away their sorrows before heading home or to the next office event. Around 8 or 9, the place seems to fill up again but the place is well staffed so that you won't have an empty glass for long. read more

I, too, was always intrigued by this place and often wondered what it was like as I was going in and out of the state house. We went on a Saturday night and perhaps I don't get out enough but I was surprised. They were pumping Britany Spears and if I didn't know better, I would think the gentlemen had a dress code of collard shirts and khakis. In short, this place is not as cool as I had hoped. Perhaps the key to to go on a weekday night. I did like the inside with the long bar that made it easy to get a drink. It was also (obviously) much less crowded than the Fanueil Hall bars so for that, it was worth the trek. read more

One of my go to bar's in the summer--its low key and free of college kids. Love their trivia night on Sunday's. They serve pitchers....which the price of has gone up significantly since I started going there (minus one star) but they do serve some pretty good Buffalo Chicken Nacho's which are easily one of my favs. They also have great burgers--some with great crispy onions! read more

Typical Boston Irish bar, this one is close to the State House so it definitely gets a more political types than the financial district counterparts. It is a little divey and the layout is a bit awkward but overall it is fine. This is a beer on tap/rum and coke kind of bar. I ordered a buffalo chicken sandwich and it was pretty standard, just what I was expecting. I would come back for another. read more

Finally popped into this bar last night and will definitely be returning. This is truly a neighborhood bar for Beacon Hill locals and the vibe is warm, comfortable, and laid back. I was here a couple of months ago, to have lunch with a friend on a Sunday. The food was good, the beer on tap was good, and the location in Beacon Hill, right near the Park is great. The only draw back this lunch was when we were winding up, a party of about 15 or 20 came into the room we were eating and pretty much took it over. Cool little pub behind the State House. Seemed to be a strange mix of suits with younger college types. The veggie quesadilla was fantastic. The lights were too dark, and the female bartenders seemed a bit more interested in flirting with the doorman than getting us our tab. read more

Small bar, definitely not somewhere you want to go with a large group. Good beer selection, the night I was there there was a watermelon beer special, with a huge chunk of fresh watermelon on the rim, definitely a great choice. It can get super dark and really loud in here, for some reason a lot of large groups show up, so it can he bard to move or hard to get to the bar. Definitely a better choice for casual afterwork drinks or a midday beer, avoid late at night if you don't want a crowd. read more

Decided to go here last minute on a Saturday night with some friends and had a great time! We wandered in at about 10pm for dinner, were seated right away, and stayed until about 1am. The waitress was very nice, putting up with us for so long! :) We had the vegetable quesadillas, sweet potato fries, and nachos with buffalo chicken. All were very delicious and I would recommend them to anyone who wants to try this place out. We also had some drinks, including the Angry Apple, which is a great mixed drink with whiskey and cider that is my new favorite! 21st offers great food and a fun atmosphere. I go frequently after work days to get a quick bite to eat and the staff is always friendly and accommodating! I've never had a bad experience with my food not being hot or exactly what I ordered which can be an issue at other restaurants. Also I can't stress enough how friendly and polite the staff is. This is not always the case in Boston! 21st is truly a great place to eat if you're going on the weekend with friends/a group to stay for a while or just by yourself to get a quick bite! read more

We loved this place! My boyfriend and I were here on 10/10/16, Columbus Day. We were only in Boston for the day, as we were on a Princess Cruise. After checking out the usual "Boston" things, we wanted to find something more local. This was the perfect place. As soon as we stepped in, we felt at home. The staff was great, the regulars were so friendly. It was Columbus Day, so lots of people were out of school and off work. The place was busy, but we still received excellent service. We are from IL, so we won't be back anytime soon, but I can guarantee we will make a stop at 21st Amendment the next time we are in Boston. Our drinks were great. I was visiting Boston this weekend from Baltimore & I can say that this bar was tops in every category! You may not know what drink you want, but they will ask you what you like & create something very good based on your preferences. The food is also very tasty based on a limited menu. Out waitress Shay was very helpful in recommending drinks & food. Also since I was a tourist, she was very helpful in recommending other places in Boston that I would enjoy. Historically this place has some great roots & the workers are friendly as well as knowledgeable about the area. I would recommend it to anybody. read more

Popped in for a lunch meeting. Was pleasantly surprised. Good selection on tap (I had an amazing watermelon wheat beer), the atmosphere was casual, the prices pretty good and the food was pretty stellar. I had a grilled cheese sandwich on wheat with sweet potato fries (which were thin, crispy and far superior to most I've had elsewhere). The whole bill was under $15 with tax and a healthy tip.
