This was our first time visiting longwood gardens. The restaurant was booked for the evening meals but the staff was accommodating and was able to seat us. The meals and drinks were all delicious. The ingredients were all fresh. The drinks were amazing. I believe I could possibly eat everything on their menu. read more

I thought we'd come to Longwood gardens and grab lunch in a place that is all about quantity over quality like many museum cafes. What I found here at 1906 was on another level. I was blown away by the complexity of flavor, balance of texture and overall composition of the plates. The food here rivals any fancy place you'd find in any city-seriously. They start with a "potted" brioche as their bread basket which is very in theme with the location in Longwood Gardens. The brioche is so buttery and flaky, what's great though is that they serve it with butter sprinkled with big pieces of salt which adds an unexpected crunch. For my main, I ordered the "oatsotto" a riff on a risotto but made with oats. Don't be turned off by the oats, this isn't your Quaker breakfast. The oatsotto is savory, creamy and cheesy, the perfect base for this plate of goodness. On top is chanterelle mushrooms, some big meaty pieces, some smaller crispy pieces. There are also crunchy nuts, some green herbaceous notes and small dollops of a blood orange gel. So many components that come together beautifully, all perfectly complementing each other. The overall dish presents as savory, earthy, sweet, acidic- a harmony of texture and flavor. I can't say enough good things about this dish. It's also vegetarian- but if you're a meat lover the mushrooms more then make up for the lack of protein on the plate. Seriously go to Longwood Gardens, work up an appetite and get over to 1906 you won't regret it. read more

It's a fine place but it took forever, was expensive, and we were freezing in the "enclosed patio". If you live close, sure go 1 out of 10 times visiting. If you live further away and only go once a year, don't waste 2 hours of your day sitting at this restaurant. Spend 1/3 of the money and 1/5 of the time and just get counter service at the place next door. read more

I have given 1906 two chances. The first time I really tried to be generous. The second time I found the food to be very mediocre. The tables are cramped, and the cocktails were of dive bar variety. I am so sorry to be unable to recommend this restaurant because it has such potential. It is just not living up to it. The servers were very pleasant. read more

I was able to reserve a late lunch for 4 people and we enjoyed the experience in the opening day of the Christmas event at Longwood gardens. There was a set menu and we all enjoyed our choices. I had the infamous mushroom soup (A must have while visiting Longwood!), the burger, and creme brûlée. I had 2 cocktails- the Garden Affair (lit bit too string for me) and the Clover Club (delightful!). I confirmed that the gratuity was included with our pre-payment so we only paid for drinks and a tip based on the drinks. Service was excellent and we felt very glad we had the chance to enjoy the beautiful warm day and lovely meal! read more

We went to Longwood Gardens this past April to see the tulips in bloom. For us, dining at 1906 was considered part of this experience. The setting was on a gorgeous wooden deck surrounded by nature. The first thing that you notice when walking into 1906 is that it is truly a 5 star dining experience, equivalent to that of a Michelin stared restaurant. Instead of a traditional museum restaurant, the restaurant serves as a fine dining farm to table first experience. Utilizing most of their herbs and produce from their very own garden, the chef crafts works of art from fruits and vegetables. The cocktails were also super different using seasonal ingredients to enhance the flavors. The best part of the show was the edible flower pot. It literally comes out like a flower in a pot and everything is completely edible. We definitely recommend that you make reservations at 1906 on your romantic visit to Longwood Gardens. read more

If I could give more than 5 stars I would. The dining experience here met our needs and FAR MORE. Staff was so attentive, the atmosphere was so breathtaking, and the food was so beautifully presented and tasted even better. I would recommend 1906 to everyone and anyone and every penny spent on this dining experience was worth it. read more

Came as group of 3; we had booking which was good as during the Longwood Christmas period it gets busy. All of our group loved our meals. Mushroom soup is delicious. The salmon was perfectly cooked; the crab cakes had big chunks of crab in them; the risotto was great too. We shared the winter woods dessert- sweet but good to share (wouldn't want to attempt on own!!). Would recommend and will return. It's not cheap but good value for the great food and service. read more

This was a delicious little number, located right inside Longwood gardens. Guess what the views were? You guessed right, flowers, trees and more flowers. The food is unusually delicious for restaurants on property like this. I had a mushroom strudel along with some of the best cream of mushroom suop I have ever had, while my hubby had a homemade chicken pot pie that was loaded with tender chicken and fresh veggies all covered with a buttery and flaky crust. They had a pumpkin filled pasta, that I may try on my next trip around. Nice wine list, including local wines and you are in mushroom country and they know how to perfect dishes using them. They also offer The Cafe, where you can pick and choose your own foods, pay for them and then sit down to enjoy. read more

The outstanding service is what earns this newly remodeled restaurant four stars from me. The food is good, but just like the cafe here, a bit pricey. Case in point: I wasn't in the mood for a $16 omelet so I chose to get an appetizer to tide me over until I made it home. I ordered the $12 mushroom ravioli dish. Considering it consisted of four raviolis, that's $3 a piece, ouch! I liked the truffle foam, but the raviolis weren't as plump as I thought they would be. I really don't think they were house made. My mom had the Portabello Mushroom Wrap ($11). That's a much better deal and could easily be shared. It came with a small cup of multigrain salad which was really tasty! The reason i wanted to eat here was to order the Mushroom strudel that DJ M mentioned. I was so disappointed that they no longer serve it! I made sure I mentioned that on the comment card. A server came by our table with a complimentary amuse bouche for each of us. It was a small cracker with brie and prosciutto. The bread, served in a small pot was nice. Would I eat here again? When they put the Mushroom Strudel back on the menu, I'd definitely say yes. Reservations can be made through http://www.opentable.com/single.aspx?rid=23506 read more

Amuse bouche done right. Lady Mary and I were visiting Longwood again, trying to capture some great daytime photos, and stay for the lights at night. This requires one to spend the better portion of the day at the Gardens, which is far from a problem. One does, however, work up an appetite taking in all that gorgeousness; Enter 1906. The crowd of plebs and dirty children in the Terrace didn't look like something in which we were interested, so we decided to see if there was seating available in the restaurant. We didn't have a reservation, but were seated promptly regardless of that fact. For an appetizer we tried the onion soup, which was made from locally grown, organic vidalias. It was a clever play on a very traditional french onion soup; one which added a little cream to finish and a very small amount of heat via cayenne. The soup course was creative and well executed. If the dear reader will permit, I'm going to go on a brief tangent. Every menu has what I've termed 'sucker items'. These are menu options which are rarely the best , but frequently the most expensive items on the menu. There are a few words that run the 'sucker item' flag right up the pole; among them are 'medallions of...' 'an 8oz. filet', and the worst offender of all...crab cakes. They are intrinsically forced to have filler, which makes me wonder why on earth they push the $30 mark on menus. The only dark spot on our otherwise sunny visit to 1906, was our waitress trying to push a $27 crab cake entree on us. No thanks sister, you'll not fool this limey that easily. Back on course now...sorry (straightening my tie). A much better value seemed to exist in the pork tenderloin, at $19/ plate. The pork itself was cooked perfectly, and the rub was an attempt to elevate traditionally bbq flavours...it succeeded. The pork was joined by some more of our onion friends from the previous course, now in ring form. Each was filled with greens & grits. I am a huge fan of taking staples (like onions, greens, and grits), and finding a way for them to make sense on a gourmet plate. This very transformation happened beautifully in our meal. The chef has good knowledge of ingredients, can execute, and has a bit of creativity...definitely worth a go. Lastly, we went (unbeknownst to us), on member appreciation day, which afforded us a 20% discount. The whole meal was $53 including tip. I'd be happy to re-rate at five stars if we can please take the huck finn-ness out of the ordering process. Overall, a strong 4 stars. Lady Mary and I will be back. read more

The day was very carefully planned and a late lunch at 1906 on January 5 was exactly what we had in mind. After arriving early to tour all of the gardens and conservatory spaces we arrived at 1906 for our reservation. We had a nice, quiet table in the corner. After being on our feet for hours, it was great to be able to sit in a comfortable chair, have a glass of wine, and be able to have a nice conversation with my friends. 1906 is the high end dining option at Longwood Gardens. There is also a cafeteria style restaurant, but we wanted something a bit more special and less hurried. We all had different things in mind for meals but we all agreed that soup would be a good start for such a cold day. I had the mushroom soup - after all, Kennett Square is the mushroom capital of the world... My friends had the beet salad and the sweet potato, apple, and chestnut soup. In addition to the first course, we were served cute little rolls that were baked in flower pots. They were warm and soft; served with a richer than standard butter. For our main course we chose the cheddar and ham panini, the jumbo lump crab cakes and the sirloin burger. Everyone was happy with their selections but we decided we were not ready to brave the cold, crowds and outdoor lights just yet - we opted for coffee and dessert - the Longwood Dirt was AMAZING! (chocolate custard, chocolate crumbs, peppermint cream and hazelnut bark). The service was great and we were never hurried. It was a really nice way to spend a few hours and we were able to regroup and replenish our strength for our tour of the outdoor holiday light display. Our total was about $120. I highly recommend this restaurant - there are options for everyone, the ambiance is nice and calm, and the ingredients are local and often organic. Way to go Longwood! It is nice to have such a great dining establishment in a cultural institution. Boo to cafeteria food! read more

We wanted to like 1906 more than we did. It came highly recommended by friends of ours, and I went in with a positive attitude. "We're going to love this! It's expensive, but it's worth it! This will be so much better than the cafeteria." It was true, it was probably better than the cafeteria, definitely at least in terms of the atmosphere. It was nice to have a big table to ourselves and to not have people rushing past us at every moment. And it was definitely quieter than the cafe. But our service left a little something to be desired. Our waitress didn't really engage us at all, smile or say anything pleasant. She was all business, and I feel like, at a place like this, so much of what you're there for is the experience of feeling pampered. I loved the little touches like the bread in the flower pots and the amuse bouche we received from the chef, but our server's attitude did not convey this feeling as well. Our entrees were good, but not blow-you-out-of-the-water good. Not $16 burger good. I got a goat cheese omelette with side salad, which was well made and tasty - I liked my meal the best out of all three of us. The mushroom panini and burger with bacon didn't live up to the hype as much. We shared the crispy portobellos with basil aoili, and I think that might have been my favorite part. All in all, you should visit 1906 if you want to avoid the hustle and bustle of the cafe and have a relaxing lunch. Just take a deep breath and be prepared to pay the high prices. It might take the sting out of the high expectations. read more

Wow so overhyped! We had high expectations as so many others that wound up disappointed. We started with the lettuces appetizer with figs spicy pecans and blue cheese crumbles. The plate arrived with a few greens, figs, no pecans and maybe two tiny blue cheese crumbles. So not worth the price we paid. The main courses were ok I had the chicken salad and fried oysters. Was good but I literally was still hungry when we left and had to stop at WaWa for a hoagie. Would have given three stars but the server Michael was not the best and certainly not a fine dining server. read more

Mushroom soup, braised short rib, flower pot bread and chocolate flourless dessert were all very good! Service was also excellent.

It's a nice restaurant, the only table service restaurant in the gardens that I know of. The views on the patio are amazing. The main restaurant was very warm to the point of being uncomfortable. We sat out on the enclosed deck away from the heaters and it was much more pleasant. The mushroom soup is a must have. The flavors are amazing and I have never had better. The salad was nothing special and the portobello grilled cheese was good but a bit greasy and difficult to eat. My first glass of iced tea was great the second tasted like it had been strained through some old gym socks. What the heck. Service was ok but never on point for this restaurant that tries to be more posh. read more

I have never been to this area before...didn't know it existed. I drove here to for a concert and luckily saw that they had a restaurant on the grounds. It was a pre-fixe menu. I had this pumpkiny drink...it was okay. Not what I expected. I had a braised beef type meal which was well made. I love the way they shaped their bread...very cute. Had the mushroom soup which was soo delish! I never had mushroom soup before...now I know! Staff was very nice. Restaurant has a cozy feel to it. Coming back to area for another concert in two months and will def try to have another dinner planned. It's not the cheapest place but I assume you already saw the price before you arrived. Fine Dining lives up to its name. The servers were very attentive, and all the dishes have a fancy look. We should have had a better research of the menu, because we realized maybe a bit too late that all the items on "future" section are vegan, and in smaller portion. For meat lovers, "classic" would be a much sensible choice. The signature pot flower cake was so beautiful and delicious! Generally, I would recommend it for brunch or afternoon tea. Two words: homemade bread! So tasty that I still think about it sometimes. Dishes always very fresh and I have had the same waitress several times visiting and she always has a pretty smile on for the family. It's a bit cold on the inside though last time (hence the 4 stars heh) and last time, my mother in law had a cough :( so that didn't help :( Still always a fan and will come back with a jacket next time heh. Came here for dinner on xmas eve and was very happy with our meal. We made a reservation for four people several weeks in an advance, but there was no room inside, so we ate in the connected heated patio/tent area. It was actually quite warm there. To start, we were all served warm brioche buns in little flower pots. The buns looked like little mushrooms, which was cute. The menu had a theme of xmas past, present, and future, with options for what to eat in each category. We ordered the following: - Skuna bay salmon w beluga lentils, parsnip, turnip, and pomegranate ($30). This was perfectly cooked, moist fish with a crispy skin and delicious lentils. The fresh pop of the pomegranate seeds was lovely. - Berkshire pork chop w whipped sweet potato, baby kale, and blood orange ($28). This was a perfectly cooked, generous portion, but no real wow factor. - Pennsylvania duck breast w butternut squash, bacon, brussels sprouts, cranberry ($30). I loved this dish. The duck was cooked medium rare, and went very well with the accompaniments. - Kennett Square mushroom soup w crispy shallots, chive ($11). Very creamy and delicious. This was an appetizer which my mom had as her main course. We all shared our food and this way there was more than enough for everyone, without a bunch of leftovers. For dessert, we all split the pomme de noel ($16). I posted a video of this beautiful and fun dessert, which is served in a hard sugar shell that looks like an apple. You can crack this to get to the apple cheesecake mousse that is inside. The plate also had some vanilla caramel and pecan streusel. It was a little on the sweet side and could have used a better balance of tart or acid components, but as it was, we all just avoided eating the sugar shell. I also ordered a cocktail with cherry, pomegranate, lime, rum, and agave syrup. It was okay, and mixed with a heavy hand, but more sour than I'd like. The staff were all friendly, but service was pretty slow and they could have done a bit better of a job of keeping our water glasses filled. Prices were reasonable though, and being a member gets you a discount off the meal! Bathrooms are outside the restaurant and downstairs. Clean. But inconvenient. Overall, we enjoyed our experienced. read more

My husband and I made a reservation for lunch on Monday. I tried the White Orchid cocktail, the Kennett Square Mushroom Soup, and the Sea Bass. My husband had the Ricotta Gnocchi and we split the Walking on Sunshine dessert. The food was only so so; the cocktail was weak, very sweet, and despite listing seltzer, uncarbonated; and the setting uncomfortable. I must mention that my husbands gnocchi were VERY salty and my sea bass was pleasant, although I did ask them to omit the pancetta and sauce. The real thing that ruined our lunch for me was the intrusive and overbearing service from our waitress. Constantly interrupting over the hour and a half we spent trying to enjoy a relaxing lunch, she had no idea of what the hospitality of fine dining should look like. read more

Some of the best vegan food iv had. I called in advanced to make sure they could Prepare something. Didn't work out that way. I hate being a hassle. An overall nice restaurant to go to if you are in the area but I would not go out of my way to eat there. I've been twice - once for brunch and once for dinner. They make an effort to vary the menu seasonally, which I always appreciate. Their bread is made in a cute shape that fits perfectly in a cup. During my dinner meal, I had the shrimp with spinach fettuccine and artichokes and mushrooms. The sauce was a little watery and the pasta was a little bland. The other components of the dish were good. The roasted pear and cheese salad and butternut squash fritters were very good appetizers. My companion had the stripped bass and it was cooked well and tasty. It is a bit on the pricey side but I think that is due to the fact that it is the "nice" restaurant on the grounds of Longwood Gardens. read more

Very disappointed. Asked for an allergen menu, was told the regular menu took care of that (it didn't); Informed waiter I had a gluten allergy, when the bread pots came out he said they had gluten free dinner rolls. While checking out the Christmas lights at Longwood Gardens, I, like everyone else was starving, however I did not want anything heavy like the pot pie, nor did I want pizza. Wanting to maximize my visit while also grabbing a quick bite to eat, the menu at 1906 looked more attractive, so despite the sketchy reviews, I went for it. The bread for the table is a popover and mine was lukewarm, so I am not sure if that is the way they are meant to be served or if I just got the raw end of the deal. Regardless, I was hungry, so I still ate it. The mushroom soup looked appealing and I love crispy shallots and chives, so I went with that. It was just as good as everyone raves, however, the chives come in the form of oil and not actual chives. I was a tad disappointed to have found that out as they do not explain that in the description. The only thing I would do differently would be to order extra crispy shallots and to try the crab cake because it looked really good. read more

This review is particularly for Priscilla, Kevin, and Neja at the front table. As a long-standing garden member I was honestly appalled at the way they treat their guests. I felt incredibly uncomfortable with their under breathe whispers when I asked about my reservation, as at the point it was already delayed by 35 minutes. I would strongly advise against coming here as for the price I do not feel their service is in any way acceptable. Yes, the food is acceptable, but certainly not worth the disrespect it comes with. read more

Overall, a beautiful, little spot for a fine dining experience. Could have been better, but I'd dine there again. My family enjoyed a pre-Christmas dinner at 1906. The restaurant itself is small. We were seated in an adjoining heated tent. The tent was far too hot upon arrival, and it became more tolerable as the meal progressed. The nice thing was that we were not seated too close to other patrons, so there was a feeling of having an intimate dinner. The food was mostly good, and both the bar and food menu offered a diversity of options. The service was okay. We had wilted lettuce in our salads and my soup arrived on the cold-side. We alerted the server to the issues. My second drink was made EXTREMELY strong. While some might have celebrated a stiff drink, I didn't like the taste. It's frustrating to pay a lot of money for a so-so experience. Otherwise, everything was tasty. Our meals were perfect, and the desserts were amazing! I recommend a few things: - If you want a quiet meal, I recommend going at an off time or on a week night. We were there on a Saturday during the holiday season and it was crazy. - Absolutely make a reservation. The wait-time for walk-ins was an hour or two long. - Save room for dessert! read more

I was so looking forward to dining here before the May Fireworks and Fountains presentation. The service was outstanding but the food really fell short of my expectations. I ordered the mushroom soup and this was really the only thing either of us had that would qualify as a stand out. The mushroom risotto was bland and a little on the gummy side. The chicken sandwich that my boyfriend ordered was just okay and when you factor in the price "just okay" doesn't cut it. Tagliatelle was equally underwhelming and served not quite hot. The service was 100% of what I would expect from a fine dining establishment. Hands down some of the best. She was knowledgeable about the menu and the wine list. The food was delivered quickly. I never had to wait long for her to come by and check on us. Truly top notch. I don't think I would waste the money to have a sit down dinner here. The food options at the other locations at the gardens looked just as good, if not better. I'd opt for those over this on any future visit. read more

Longwood during Christmastime is magical. We had a reservation at 1906 last night and the quality of the food and preparation was delectable. However, I was a bit surprised at what I thought were extraordinarily steep prices for a restaurant in that area on top of an already steep admission price. ($30 a person to walk into Longwood) The mushroom soup was delightful and I get it every time but at $11 a cup I expect it to be wone I am a big fan of crab cakes but could not bring myself to spend $44 on them. For $44 I want to be a eating a steak. Another option was a ribeye to share that was $115. If we wanted we could have added shaved truffles to it for I think $30 or caviar for $70. For a restaurant that you have to walk through a cafeteria to get to I think that is too high. The mushroom soup at $11 a cup was delightful and I get it every time. I ended up having the pork chop and my date had the duck. Both were prepared excellently. They had remodeled the restaurant since the last time I was there and "got rid of the white table cloths". I don't know why you would want to get rid of white table cloths. A one and done experience I guess to have said you have tried it but I did not find it worth the cost. read more

Came here with the intention of enjoying the dessert made to look just like a flower. We came close at 3:30 and were told to be just a moment for seating. After waiting close to 15 minutes or so, we saw a pair of other ladies come up and be seated before us! Not cool! And not a good sign. When I came up to remind her we were also waiting, we were seated right away. I am rolling my eyes as I type this. We tried not to think too much of it, and instead focused on ordering the desserts. Well, we tried. It took more time to be acknowledged by our waitress. She passed us several times and was attentive to some of the surrounding tables before she finally came and took our order. I say some because while we waited we looked around and saw that we weren't the only unhappy customers. The restaurant is located in the gardens, and while it is the nicer choice of the food options (the alternative is casual dining at the food court next door), the staff's snobby attitude did not transcend well to the more casual diners like myself. Finally, we ordered. My aunt ordered the strawberry rhubarb while I ordered the flower dessert. When the dessert finally came, I was thoroughly impressed with it. It looked just like a flower pot, with the pot made of chocolate mousse and all parts of the dessert being edible. That is the ONLY good thing I can say about this restaurant because...my aunt's dessert, the strawberry rhubarb, was inedible. It looked like gloppy oatmeal on a plate with strawberries thrown on and it tasted like boogers. My hat to the dessert chef for the flower creation, the one saving grace of this awful restaurant experience and the only reason I gave it two stars instead of one. read more

Had lunch there today. I tried two items from their "Future" of food list - a list of vegetarian dishes. One, the maitaki mushroom tempura, was tasteless. The other a tofu sandwich was mediocre. The tempura came with a mayonnaise horseradish sauce; at least it was supposed to contain horseradish. I thought I could detect a hint of it, but not much more than that. The tofu sandwich came with large fried chunks of tofu, which should have been about 1/4th the size so that they were more crispy. While the avocado spread made the bread mushy (the bread was a soft bread that rapidly absorbed moisture, making it mushy). I recommend staying away from their vegetarian selection until they get someone from Vedge in Philadelphia to show them how to do this style of food well. The rest of the party stuck with more traditional dishes and were quite satisfied. read more

I admit I thought this place was going to skate exclusively on the prestige of being the only restaurant inside the beautiful Longwood Gardens (which requires a ~$20 admission fee), in truth it is really a fantastic restaurant. The Spring 2018 menu was organized into three sections, playfully (or pretentiously? your mileage may vary) entitled: Past, Present and Future. The "Past" are traditional, some would say "heavy" classics; the "Present" is locally sourced hipster type upgrades of the classics; the "Future" is a collection of creative vegan dishes. Of course, I picked from the "Future" menu. There were a few interesting options (see photo of menu, sorry for the low resolution). I was immediately drawn to the "Center Cut Broccoli Steak." Our very kind and accommodating waitress, Ida, made sure to point out that there would be, in fact, not actual "meat" steak--which I said was of course alright. The Broccoli Steak was amazing. It was a highly creative, light and delicious dish, designed without trying to parrot preparations of the past. The dish is unapologetically vegan: Very clear taste, no sauces, barely any dressing on the greens. The beautiful roasted head of broccoli is unabashedly the star. I was fascinated by the yummy mix of textures: Dense giving flesh of the broccoli; crunch of the carrots and green; unctuousness of the raw sorrel-broccoli pesto; crispy and grain-like texture from the cumin-seed flavored rye crackers. My boyfriend got the vegetarian "Tagliatelle" (the larger portion, which is a reasonable amount for a meal) and they were also beautifully done. Here too, some creative ideas, such as the delicious use of fiddleheads--as a sort of vegan shrimp. Our waitress and the kitchen were kind enough to serve us nice small (off menu) side salads to complement this. I left feeling sated, light, and with inspiration for my own cooking ideas. Our meal for two with salad and tip, was about $80. If you are interested in creative, vegetarian/vegan food, I can't recommend this place highly enough, even if it's a bit of a drive away, and even if you did not have the intention of visiting the gardens or greenhouses. --- Since the menu changes frequently, here is a copy of the description of our items to give you an idea of what I am talking about. -- "TAGLIATELLE tomato, saffron & spinach pasta, fiddleheads, morels, marinated tomatoes, English peas & greens 18/34." -- "CENTER CUT BROCCOLI STEAK broccoli-sorrel pistou, rye cracker, carrot & stem salad, chili flake 19." read more

I was very disappointed on my recent dining experience. I had a very good meal a couple of years ago and was looking forward to eating there again. However the menu is now ala carte. The menu itself is in such small font that I was embarrassed in my attempted to read it. I have been low vision for years and it appears that Longwood is making attempts to be more inclusive to people with disabilities, but mainly mobility. When I requested a large print menu the response was a nervous laugh from the server. The best part of the meal was the mushroom soup and the butter. I could have prepared a better main course than the one I ordered which was the acorn squash with quinoa. Undercooked and tasteless. Vegetarians have taste buds too. And for $23. read more

Great service, mediocre food and very expensive. My husband and I recently joined Longwood and spent a lovely day there. We celebrated our anniversary with a dinner at 1906. It started with delicious bread baked in tetracotta flower pots and wonderful butter that tasted house made. We ordered a charcuterie appetizer which tasted good but had only 6 incredibly thin slices of meat, although reasonable portions of cheese, dried fruit and candied nuts (too sweet for my taste). Since fresh local peaches are in season, I ordered the peach and arugula salad. I was dismayed by a relatively small salad with 4 thin slices of hard, unripe and almost flavorless peach. The chilled corn soup with lobster claw meat was very good and slightly sweet, but was over priced at $16 for a 6 oz serving. My husband's traditional Kennett mushroom soup was pretty good and a larger portion for $11, but both soups had a sort of gelatinous texture that may have been from corn starch. My husband's filet with truffle fries was very good but not noteworthy given the steep price. The bees knees cocktail was delicious but at $14 we weren't up for ordering another. The dessert, although creative and visually appealing, was a disappointment in that it had almost no taste and an unpleasant texture. Our very kind and attentive waiter removed it from out table and bill and brought us some wonderful homemade chocolates with dried fruit and seeds. Overall a lovely evening but a pricey one with limited palate appeal. read more
