We recently had an incredible dining experience at 1904 in Longwood Gardens, thanks to the entire team and especially our server, Mike B. The prix fixe menu for the Garden Glow exhibit was wonderful, and every staff member struck the perfect tone--warm, welcoming, polished, and genuinely friendly. We enjoyed the jumbo shrimp cocktail (featuring special Japanese shrimp), a luscious mushroom bisque with toasted shallots, butternut squash risotto, tofu curry, spaghetti alla chitarra with Maine lobster, pistachio crunch with kataifi, and a chocolate mousse sculpted like a large Kennett Square mushroom. Each course was beautifully crafted, made with exceptional ingredients, and truly delicious. Mike B. was terrific--great personality, warm manner, and an infectious enthusiasm for the food. He walked us through each course from concept to execution, and his energy and attention elevated the entire experience. For the price point, you're better off trying an actual fine dining restaurant, a Michelin restaurant, or James bear awarded restaurant. You have to purchase seperate tickets to enter the gardens, for one. Members, you get a whopping 10% discount. Your plates, appetizer or entree, are pompously tiny and cliche - the flavors and pairings may hit a 8/10 at most, but the portion size is disappointing. Two of us did a four course fixe prie, and four cocktails. Each ordering different things to sample the menu. The hottest things that came out of the kitchen were the plates - the food was either lukewarm or cold. You get a jenga-size piece of mushroom Wellington (that had no meat in it only the mushroom duxelle and puff pastry), a playing card size of venison steak (Sous vide, no char, cold), the three scallops and ONE tiny oxtail Rangoon all came out cold and the three scallops came out cooked differently ... service was spotty. Only saw our waitress for waters and spaced every 20 mins to top off water -- each plate we received was from a different food runner. The ambiance was NOT private, romantic, or intimate, rather an attempt at elevated dining that has been commercialized. We were left unimpressed, hungry, and discouraged from going again. When planning to visit Longwood Gardens, I typically utilize the App "Tock" to secure reservations, especially since our drive to Kennett Square is nearly two hours. I wasn't able to visit A Longwood Christmas in November or early December, so I got to welcome in the New Year with a visit during the last week of the event. Our favorite staff person here at 1906 is long-time employee Natalie. Unfortunately, she was off the day of our visit, but John made sure we had an excellent dining experience. Hubby and I chose the three-course pre fixe lunch option. Just like Longwood changes the plants/exhibits every season, so does 1906 with its seasonal farm-to-table menu. My fiancé and I made reservations for dinner to start our night out for the Christmas lights and to celebrate her college graduation. Only had to wait about 10 minutes for our table to be ready. They offered coat check which was nice. I do have to say our server Brianna B was amazing! We made sure to let the supervisor know just how great she was. I've been to the new venue several times since they opened earlier this year -- the atmosphere and capacity both feel like they were upgraded. Service is professional, and the staff were very welcoming. Every dining experience has been pleasant! I love the seasonally changing menu. There's always something new to try. The staple item I'd recommend would be the pull-apart brioche! Together with the butter, it's out of this world. Warm, puffy, and fragrant... it's perfect! I am a Longwood member and have enjoyed the gardens several times. I've never been to 1906 so I was excited to go for my birthday. The restaurant itself is really clean and green. It's beautifully decorated. The staff was well educated on the menu and provided great information about the restaurant and menu. The drinks were great and the food was okay. From fine dining perspective everything was nicely plated and presented but several things truly lacked flavor. My favorite would have to be the Wellington. This place is great for its purpose, with the incredible view and for being in Longwood Garden. However, the food itself was very average for the price. We went in a large group and got multiple items to share, from starters like the beet salad, brioche, scallops, mushroom soup, shitaake salad, and the mains including two pastas (pumpkin and crab), the roasted chicken, and branzino. The chicken was probably a let down for being their signature dish, but the appetizers were solid though the portions were small. I had a phenomenal dining experience at 1906. You should absolutely treat yourself to a meal here if you are spending the day in Longwood Gardens. The dishes are inspired and made by ingredients from the garden. It's delightful, fresh and elevated. We started with the pull-apart brioche with honey butter. This was the most beautiful butter I have ever eaten. Decorated with edible flowers and drizzles of local honey, I could not get enough on each piece of fluffy brioche. We also enjoyed the heirloom tomatoes and chilled summer corn soup. These were both refreshing from the summer heat. We opted for two herbal elixirs to drink. These are a great option if you want something fun and bubbly without alcohol in the middle of the day. For our main dish, we tried the summer risotto trio - a kale, carrot and vegetable risotto sprinkled with cracked pepper and edible flowers. This dish was as beautiful as it was delicious. This is a great addition to the seasonal summer menu. We enjoyed a side of brussel sprouts and grilled watermelon alongside our main. The brussel sprouts were shredded with a hint of lemon that complimented the risotto. The watermelon was paired with a whipped feta and seasoned with dill and tajin. It was a sweet and spicy combination that lightened the meal. You cannot skip dessert here. Their signature caramelia cake is absolutely adorable! The entire mushroom, chocolate rocks and coconut leaves are edible. This is the show stopper of an already incredible dining experience. And if you are looking for something extra sweet, order a scoop of sorbet or gelato to go along with it. I highly recommend dining during one of the daily fountain shows. They all have a keen eye & fast reflexes to make sure our dining experience was spectacular. No complaints whatsoever. Food was pretty decent. I did receive a phone call a week prior to confirm my reservation. I thought that was a nice touch. The receptionist wanted to make sure that I know they were going to be having a prix fixed menu for Mother's Day weekend. I did wish they have a separate menu for people who didn't want what was on their prix fixed menu though. I've heard wonderful things so I did set the bar a little high. For our trip to longwood garden, we made the reservation for 1906, just in time for their summer menu. Not sure when, but they moved to under the conservatory, so it does have more spaces and have a better view now. The atmosphere is pretty relaxing. Foodwise, it's all pretty distinctive with natural themes; but nothing really stands out; everything is between OK to good. Still, not expecting too much inside the garden park. Had an exceptional experience at 1906 Fine Dining for my friend's intimate wedding dinner. The space is beautiful, decorated with many plants and flowers. The private room that we had full view of their mushrooms, which was whimsical. Each dish served was perfectly paired together, and they serve an American menu rooted in seasonality, sustainability, and locality, with many of the ingredients grown in their Ornamental Kitchen Garden. Finally, I cannot stop raving about the service. Our servers were extremely attentive, made sure our drinks never ran out, described each dish in detail, and were extremely mindful of the dietary restrictions of the group. My family and I just ate here on New Years Eve. It was wonderful! We did have an interesting visit from the start due to someone who needs secret service when they are out and about, wink wink. It made for a weird vibe because that's all people could talk about. But, that is no fault to 1906. The entire ambiance of 1906 is breath taking. I loved the furniture, colors, decor, and the large windows let in so much light and offer great views. The sunset was beautiful. The bathroom hall is nice as well. Single stalls. The food was fantastic. There was five of us and we had many items off the menu. The attention to detail and the delivery of the food was an art at times. We have no complaints about anything. The one item on the menu our entire table enjoyed the Roasted Green Circle Chicken. It was brined in honey and lavender. The flavor was delightful! It is pricy but, understandably. We just had the most amazing meal at 1906... A few weeks back I was listening to WMMR on my way to work. Preston and Steve mentioned 1906 at Longwood Gardens and spoke very highly about the food and cocktails. I had never heard of 1906, and though I knew of Longwood, I had never visited before. I decided to look into reservations for my husband and I to have a nice "date night" between Christmas and New Years. While dinner reservations where already booked I was able to get a lunch reservation. We arrived that morning to explore Longwood for a few hours before lunch. It was beautiful and we enjoyed it saying we need to come back in the Spring/Summer. We made our way to 1906 a little before or reservation time to have a drink at the bar. We ordered The Garnet and a Whitetail. Both were very good but I preferred The Garnet of the two. Then we moved on to our table for lunch. We were greeted by our server, Ashley. Ashley explained the 3 or 4 course prix fixe menu option to us. We opted to go with the 4 course. We ordered a bottle of wine and made our selections. Ashley was informative and helpful with any questions or guidance in our menu selections. We opted to start with the Wagyu Beef Tartare before or 4 courses. It was outstanding! We then moved on to our first course, my husband chose the Caramelized Savoy and I the Winter Greens, both were very good. Second course, he got the Mushroom Bisque and I got the Ricotta Gnocchi. The Ricotta Gnocchi was a showstopper! Third course, he did Green Circle Chicken and I did the Atlantic Halibut. The Halibut was also amazing! For our last course hubby went with the Spiced Pavlova and I the Caramelia. The Carmelia was beautiful as well as delicious. My husband and I both said this meal, as a whole, was one of the best we have had in a long time. (And we are people who like to go out and try new places to eat.) Besides the wonderful food, Ashley's attention to detail and timing was impeccable. The meal as a whole was around 2 hours and we appreciated not being rushed and her ability to anticipate our needs throughout the whole experience. The good: beautiful setting in a lovely garden that is well worth visiting with impeccable service. The bar served well crafted drinks, a Cosmo and an Old Fashioned. The not so good - the food. That's a problem. My friend had halibut and I had the duck, we both chose the mushroom soup and we split a dessert. The presentation of the mushroom soup, the mushrooms in the bottom of the bowl with a non-dairy scream sauce poured over by a server, was charming. The soup had a dark flavor, not at all bad, but no other strong flavor. It needed salt. It needed other flavors. The halibut and the duck portions were small. They were small period, but especially for the price of nearly $40 an entree. My duck, three slice of breast with a sauce, was flavorless. Not exactly sure how they did it, but it barely tasted of duck. As I ate this, I realized if I didn't order something else, I'd be hungry. So we ordered a loaf of bread, which was nicely seasoned and warm with flavored butter. My friend really liked her halibut but she was happy to have the bread and we are most of it, taking home a few pieces. Note that there a large variety of vegetarian and vegan dishes. On to dessert. We chose to share a Caramelia, which was chocolate mousse, espresso caramel, cocoa soil. It was very pretty but overly sweet. Again, it all looks beautiful but it's just not as good as you'd expect it to be. To sum up, beautiful place, great service, lackluster food and small portions. ​My first experience at this restaurant was disappointing. Service is a big deal to me. I honestly would have given this restaurant only two stars because of the service but felt that a bit harsh since the food and atmosphere were well above two stars. I waited too long to be seated when there were plenty of open tables available. I waited 20 minutes for my cocktail. The server did apologize for the extended wait and did not charge me for the drink. There was way too much time between actions like receiving a menu, taking my order and then being served what I had ordered. I was seated with only a drink menu and had to wait for the server to visit the table before receiving the food menu. Why not give me the food menu right away? At least I could have been deciding on my meal while waiting for the server to make her appearance. The server, although very nice and polite, was rather scarce during most of my meal. I dined solo. I should have been in and out in about an hour, hour and a half max but ended up being there over two and a half hours. This took way from my garden exploration time. In full disclosure, this was during the busy holiday season. There was a fire alarm incident during my visit which required the guests to actually leave the building for about 15 minutes. I appreciate the circumstances but feel that service was still below what it should be. The fire alarm threw off any rhythm the staff had but should have had a minimal effect if the service level were higher to begin with. The decor was quite nice. It was very sophisticated, modern and worthy of the garden location. The overall design was good with the larger tables in the middle and smaller tables on the outer perimeter. ​The food was well prepared. I liked that they served items grown within the garden or locally sourced. I started with a Caesar salad and ordered the Lasagna as an entree. The lasagna was delicious and flavorful. It was prepared with locally sourced mushrooms. The portion was generous. For dessert, I ordered the Caramelia which was a chocolate mousse dessert shaped like a mushroom. Very clever plating for the dessert. It was visually appealing and delicious. My hope is that this restaurant improves on its service. It has a lot of potential. It would be a shame if it did not live up to the high standards of the garden which surrounds its location. read more

Lunch was very good and we were in no rush anyway...but it took 2 1/2 hours... yikes! Not quite as "elegant" as expected - little things, like mixing up who ordered what, giving the bill to my wife, leaving extra place settings on the table, being seated at a table set for 4 despite having a reservation for just the two of us (pet peeve). Superb quality is a hallmark of this wonderful restaurant. In fact if it were in France or New York it would be a great candidate for Michelin star. Service can be a bit slow on weekends as the restaurant is usually full, but well worth the wait. Be sure to reserve a table well in advance unless you are willing to wait for a seat at the bar. Best of all, the background noise level is moderate so one can actually have a conversation. Far too many even so called high end establishments pump in irritating background music --certainly not the case here. The wine selection is limited but outstanding. We had a great lunch today. I split the mushroom Wellington and the beef carpaccio. Both were excellent! The mushroom Wellington comes with some tender microgreens and a foamy sauce. The beef carpaccio comes with a small piece of burrata cheese and some toasts. We had the chocolate mouse dessert which comes shaped like a mushroom. It was amazing. Do not skip dessert!! The restaurant is beautiful. We had a table right next to the windows and the sun poured in. This was my second visit; the first time was close to when it opened in November. The food wasn't as good the first time- either because of what I ordered (the mushroom soup) or just because they have gotten better with time. I started with the Pate, velvety mushroom goodness. Another had the mushroom soup but said it could be heated up some. For my main, the French Omelet. My companions made fun of me until they saw it delivered. Beautiful and filled with Maine Lobster, bearnaise and some greens. It was delicious. My companion had duck which she said was amazing. The vegetarian holiday pre fix meal for 2025 -2026 was very disappointing . I went there because my wife is vegetarian and her entrée consisted of a bowl of root vegetables. No rice, no lentils, no chickpeas. Simply a small bowl of root lentils. It's insulting for a vegetarian and completely thoughtless as a chef. We were excited to try 1906 in Longwood Gardens. The ambience is incredible, everything is so beautiful. Unfortunately, i think the service end needs work. Nothing was actually wrong, but the hostesses seem kind of snooty and nobody seemed very warm or inviting. Almost like the wait staff has to project a certain image and they're not terribly comfortable with it . Husband and I had cocktails that were beautifully presented in gorgeous glassware, but for the price extremely small. We started with pull apart Brioche rolls that were delightful. Probably my favorite of the evening. It came with a delicious butter . I then had the mushroom bisque, which is poured over a mound of mushrooms. It was good, but not outstanding. The mushrooms had a bit of strange texture. I couldn't tell if they were dried or roasted or what. Husband had the beet salad which he said was good. I had the Day boat scallops which were delicious and perfectly cooked, but the vegetables that came with were kind of strange- not terribly flavorful. Would not order that particular dish again. Husband got the French Omelet with lobster and it was delicious. We were too full for dessert ! I wouldn't be in a hurry to return, mostly because of how expensive it is. Tried the recently renovated, gorgeous 1906 restaurant during a recent girls' trip to Longwood for Christmas. We had booked our reservation for 7 people months in advance (along with our Christmas tickets) and were asked to put down $25 per person to hold the table, though this did come off of our bill at the end. We were seated immediately, and though it did take a while for us to receive drinks due to the dinner rush and they did miscount our round of mushroom bisque initially, the service was otherwise fine. A few of us opted to enjoy beverages --- the Nuts and Berries and the Whitetail (with a dominant pear flavoring) were both excellent. A few of us chose the tea-infused non-alcoholic offerings and enjoyed those as well. We all started off with the Mushroom Bisque, which the restaurant is known for, and it was certainly delicious. For those who are plant based or lactose intolerant, our waitress shared that it is actually made with coconut milk! For my entree, I opted for the Mushroom Wellington as I often prefer to try items I cannot easily make at home. This was a delicious, though lighter entree with buttery pastry and smooth mushroom Duxelles, served with a side of greens. For dessert, we asked which items were shareable and were told "all of them," though I would argue that there are probably some more easily shared than others. In any case, we chose the Caramelia, which includes chocolate and salted caramel mousses encased in chocolate/white chocolate to look like a little mushroom, which was both tasty and adorable. We also order the apple, which was similarly shaped like an apple that melted under a pour of warm bourbon dulcey sauce to reveal caramel mousse and apple sorbet --- this was probably the table favorite. Longwood Gardens members also get to enjoy a discount --- just one member of the party has to show their card for your whole dinner party to receive it. Delicious American food. We visited 1906 on a Saturday afternoon, and it was mostly full. The restaurant has large windows with a view of the outside, green booths and pale green cushions atop the wooden chairs, and purple flowers at the tables. Classic pop and motown music played over the speakers during our visit. I ordered the carajillo to drink, we split the brioche as a starter, and I ordered the blue oyster as my main. The carajillo was delicious with an excellent coffee flavor that was well complemented by the tequilla. The brioche was light and sweet with a sweet butter. Made reservations mid week and decided to get the Chef's tasting menu. The price is very reasonable for a 5 course meal! Most of the vegetables are grown at LWG, some of the mushrooms are imported from Japan but that's ok because I love shitake mushrooms! My server, Patrick, was attentive and made sure the Spaghetti alla Chitarra was included in my tasting menu since that's the dish I really wanted to try. The menu changes often depending on the season and can be different depending on the day. Ambiance is great! Decor simple and elegant. I'm definitely coming back! read more

New restaurant is beautiful, plenty of staff running around, but not very organized. We both ordered drinks. partner was given a mixed drink instead of a glass of wine. They almost did not believe her that they got it wrong. My beer, a local brew, took forever to arrive. Paid $9 for what I call the Longwood pint, about 10-12 oz. I ordered the duck, very expensive for two pieces of meat the size of my thumb, no crispy skin, no sides, for around $39. One piece had grizzle running thru it, not much flavor either. We ordered dessert, I ordered a small ball of sherbet for $9. It arrived with a candle and Happy Birthday. It was not my birthday, so they took it back. Next, they bring TWO dishes of sherbet, each with a candle and Happy Birthday charm. They did comp her wine and the dessert. You cannot dine there without paying full admission to get into the garden, on top of the crazy high prices in this place. read more
