I decided to try Portobello's for the first time on Valentine's Day. I thought it was extremely expensive for what you got i.e. $150 per person for 4 or 5 course pre-fixe dinner. Total $300 which DIDN'T include the tip or drinks, SO it was actually a $400 evening, I chose the fillet mignon which was wrapped in a dough pastry and I must say that I was pretty disappointed because when you order fillet, who the hell serves it well done??? That's exactly what I got, a well done filet mignon wrapped in dough (Shameful)..... which wasn't all that great. My date got the mushroom ravioli, which was OK at best I guess. What I'm trying to say is it just wasn't worth dropping $400 for 2 people ( waaay overpriced, hence my disappointment and truthful review) because it was Valentine's Day....... the entertainment was crappy too, some guy who played piano and trumpet and I couldn't even hear him in the room I was in so basically ZERO entertainment I definitely won't be going back here based on this experience, sorry to report. read more

We met friends from Wilmington DE here last Sunday night. (Seemed a good halfway point, and the reviews were good.) Very disappointing. I typically do not order steak out, but seemed a safe option having never been here before. Don't know who your meat purveyor is, but wow! You need a new one! There was so much gristle on that steak it was nearly inedible. Couldn't even focus on what others ordered. Just know that none of the entrees were over the top. In a world where dining out has become so costly, you can be assured we will not be returning. read more

My family and I were in town for a memorial service when the night of we decided to come here because we heard that the reviews were great and we wanted to check it out for ourselves. When we finished our meals I knew that the chef had a real talent for understanding food and I mean really understanding the culinary arts. I told him that I would be writing a review and compared him to Daniel Boulud. I still agree with this statement from what I remember about the meal but it's been a long time coming. My mom ordered the mushroom soup and normally I'm not a fan of mushroom soup but this was INCREDIBLE. The flavors were exquisite and the soup was creamy and the ingredients were fresh. I myself ordered the pasta dish at the time and it was creamy and delicious and flavorful. I know that the rest of my party enjoyed their meals and I knew I needed to speak to the chef. Cute restaurant along the main drag way with metered parking. Not sure if there's a garage nearby or not. Had a bar, indoor seating, and outdoor patio area. Stopped in for a cocktail. They have a great selection of drinks that have had some great thought put into them. Tried the blood orange margarita and the Mushroom Manhattan. This area is the mushroom capital so it was on point. Both were great! Staff very friendly and attentive. Worth a stop! read more

All around score of 5 stars. We were greeted at the door by the hostess and owner Sandra for our 5:00 pm reservation. Seated in the lovely main dining room, the walls are a warm rose color with large painting on the walls. Cozy, but not overdone. Our friendly and informed server Marissa answered any questions we had on menu offering and portion sizes. The beverage and cocktail list offers several cocktails, drafts and mocktails that do not look sugary. My request for a sbagliato was prepared to perfection. Mushrooms are a big component of menus here in Kennet Square. We started with the crab stuffed mushroom caps, served as 4 large caps. The generous portion of mushroom soup was creamy and delicious. We shared the ample sized veal and prosciutto bolognese pasta dish was shared. The pasta dish is savory and hearty. We asked Marissa to take away the plate to stop us from hurting ourselves by over eating. From beginning to end our experience at Portobello's was first rate and delicious. read more

Very cozy, attractive restaurant. We were seated immediately. Our server, Cheyenne, was the best. We both ordered the delicious roasted mushroom soup, best we've had ever. The pork chop was also tender and delicious accompanied by mashed potatoes. Nice selection of beer and wine. Street parking was plentiful for a Sunday night. Overall, Portabello will be our go-to restaurant when visiting Longwood. read more

Really excellent dining experience! Lovely surroundings and live music. Susan was a terrific server. Excellent wine list. We both had mushroom soup, and I had the clams app. The soup was wonderful, very complex. The clams were good, mildly spicy, though not noted as such on the menu. B had the blue crab ravioli with shrimp, while I had the stroganoff. Both were superb. The stroganoff gravy was delicious and the potato dumplings were very light. Staff is very kind! I like that they do have seasonal menu items :) The roasted mushroom soup is one of my favorite soups (besides noodle soups)! It's so flavorful and comforting...it's basically all you could ever ask for a soup! I love the chill ambiance it has there. I enjoyed my short ribs this time, but I enjoyed the pasta dish I had the first time I was there in the winter! We stopped here based on a recommendation from my coworker and I definitely would recommend it to everyone! It's a bit of a trip for me, but we basically go as a dinner option after having visited Longwood gardens. :) read more

Naming your restaurant after a mushroom in the mushroom capital of the world is daring...BUT this place delivered. Between amazing ambiance, food, and service this place is a must! The chef and his wife came out to greet us and wish my mother a happy birthday. We felt like royalty and the food hit the spot. If you're in the mood for mushrooms, come here. If you aren't in the mood for mushrooms, still come here (there's many other options). Thank you to Brett (the chef) and I couldn't have asked for anything BRETTer. Dumb joke, really on my dad arc. Went there with friends after hitting Longwood Gardens. Ambiance and service was solid but the food was okay. Best item for us was the mushroom soup which was very good. As to the rest, I think it was cooked alright but the dishes were too salty for almost everyone at the table. My wife and I ordered the Portabello ravioli and the Shellfish Fra Diavolo... I liked texture and was not overdone but just way too salty. I was a bit disappointed because the place is a tad pricy. It's not super clear to me if I will return, maybe for lunch but not sure. read more

I'm not generally an Italian food person but so glad we tried this place. We were looking for somewhere to eat before going to a 7pm reservation at longwood gardens. This place is extremely nice. Very nice decor with a jazz musician playing. Our waitress was amazing. She was extremely knowledgeable about the menu, was very friendly, very beautiful and really just a pleasure to be around. She had a slight mishap that resulted in me getting ranch dressing on my pants and some broken dishes but it was a total accident and she apologized 1000x. This did not discourage me one bit. The food was really good. The veal meat ball in the Sunday Gravy was very tender. For some reason the sausage was kind of cold which seemed odd to me. I had a portobello egg roll as well which was really good. This place is expensive but for the service i got i would gladly pay that. read more

I have been to Portabellos many times and have never had a bad experience. The staff are warm and accommodating, the drink selection is top notch and the food is delicious. The staff and ambiance was nice. Live jazz while dining. I haven't dined here since 2021, which I enjoyed the food. This time it wasn't the same. My bf had the fruit of the sea, seafood had no flavor and over pasta. I had stroganoff and the beef was tender but the potato dumplings were so mushy. The portabella tempura was very oily and the batter was thick. Reminded me of fish and chips batter. Not light as tempura should be. We will not be returning. read more

Dining at Portobellos was a phenomenal experience. I recently visited for lunch with friends. The restaurant primarily features two of my favorite foods: Pasta and Mushrooms. Thus, I had to order dishes that featured both. I started with the Roasted Mushroom Soup. Wow! The soup was creamy, had a rich earthy and peppery flavor, was filled with super tender mushrooms and topped with crisp scallions. Next, I had the Pappardelle which consisted of savory al-dente pasta covered in a creamy sauce and mixed with juicy tender mushrooms and spinach. Portobello's is a must visit. read more

i was very very excited to be in kennett square, the mushroom capital of the world! so of course i wanted to have a meal downtown that was on par with the mushroom theme of the day. i chose this restaurant because i stumbled across an article raving about their roasted mushroom soup, and the reviews online looked promising. of course i ordered the roasted mushroom soup, which was delicious but was served to us cold:/ i'm willing to overlook that a bit because it was really quite good and had a robust flavor profile. i was between the mushroom cheesesteak and the fettuccini al funghi but im really glad i went with the mushroom cheesesteak. i had a bite of my friend's fettuccini and didn't think it was all that. the pasta itself was a little bit too al dente for my taste, and the sauce was kinda lacking. the mushroom cheesesteak, however, was delicious. they did a fantastic job marinading the mushrooms and it gave it an almost meaty, rich and umami flavor. the service was good and our waiter was very attentive and friendly. i'd say the food was just good, we came for lunch not dinner so maybe that's why i wasn't super impressed? not sure, but i'm at least glad we got to enjoy a mushroomy meal while in the mushroom capital of the world. read more

A good restaurant when knowing a dish is to be shared should come out in 2 plates. Only 1 steak knife. And the sharing plate was a salad. We were so disappointed with our meal here. The highlight was the ginger mango salad which we split as an appetizer. The staganoff had 3 small pieces of short rib and maybe 10 dumplings. The meal portions were so tiny, we left hungry. Definitely not value for money. read more

Portobellos is a great restaurant right on Main Street in Kennett Square. They don't do reservations online so you have to call, leave a message, wait for a callback. I went on a Thursday evening and there was a gentleman playing live jazz music! Piano and trumpet- great background noise for a dinner. The staff was very attentive and friendly. Giving good recommendations although service was pretty slow in the beginning. Dinner rolls were complementary and came with mushroom with goat cheese. The cocotte was creamy and filled with mushrooms topped with a crispy cheese crumble. There weren't enough Crostini's but it was very enjoyable. The Mushroom soup was my favorite part of the evening. Very creamy and again filled with mushrooms. The shrimp risotto sounded amazing but it was not enjoyable. The risotto had a very sharp taste, the shrimp didn't have much flavor, and the Crema in the middle was not good at all. Not the best way to end the meal but everything else was excellent! read more

We had amazing service from Bill and the chef frequents the tables to see how the meal is going (impressive ). We ordered the mushroom pappardelle and mushroom soup for appetizers. Both were flavorful, fresh and seasoned perfectly! The noodle was perfectly cooked al dente. For our main course, we ordered the crispy duck and the salmon.
