She listened well to our questions and as I ordered my cocktail, she had it made exactly as I like it! The fresh bread was served on a nice board with three different accoutrements. We also enjoyed crispy Brussel sprouts. I ordered the pasta special; Orrechetta Pasta withBroccoli Rabe Pesto and it was lovely! My husband ordered the Wild Boar Tagalatelle Pasta. This dish was outstanding! My husband ordered the Cinnamon Roll Bread Pudding topped with fresh vanilla bean ice cream. It was incredible! Our friend ordered the Sea Bass with Cauliflower Mash. This was a beautiful spot near longwood gardens. Loved the decor. The menu had lots of options! I actually ordered off the vegan menu because these tacos sounded so good and they did not disappoint! Our burrata was a yummy starter too. My only complaint was that the dinner took two and a half hours! We were definitely chatty and enjoying the night but our server absolutely could have been by more often. It was a weird mix of service because our plates were taken away by bussers very quickly and aggressively yet we were waiting on everything else. We ended up missing our plans for after. read more

Just had a lovely anniversary dinner here last night which was our first time here. They recognized the anniversary throughout the meal and had lots of great NA options as well. We ordered the bread board, soup of the day, Caesar, rigatoni with meatball, and the asparagus ravioli. Our server Khaliyah let me get one vegetarian meatball and one regular (both delicious). Mid afternoon lunch on a gorgeous October day visit to Longwood Gardens. We enjoyed patio seating outside and were warmly welcomed and seated promptly. The staff were absolutely amazing from start to finish. I can't say I enjoyed my cocktail but that's down to my preference for not sweet cocktails. We started with mushrooms as a table share, then cheese board--both fantastic and creatively prepared. The walnut bread was soft, sweet and an excellent accompaniment to the cheeses! Butternut squash bisque--excellent. I had the Turkey BLT which again was savory and well prepared--but the homemade rosemary sea salt potato chips took the plate up and over. So good!! Finished with coffee--and nice touch, a slice of biscotti. Fantastic meal. Highly recommend! read more

This is exactly what you want and expect when you go out to dinner. This is a phenomenal restaurant. It took about 5 seconds for the Host to see my note, wish my wife and I a happy anniversary, ask us how many years and seat us immediately. Our Server Christina had waters brought over right away and sold the hell out of their delicious specials. You could see the grooves from the machine that made the house-made pasta. The cocktails were delicious, and I will never go there and NOT order something off the wood-fired menu. Their octopus was some of the best I've had in the US and the NY Strip special was the best steak I've had since I was in NYC. Absolutely perfectly cooked and packed with flavor from the wood and fire. I always notice the little things. When I asked where the bathroom was, they didn't just point or tell me there they were, they led me through the bar area and showed me where they were. When the gentleman next to us got up to go to the restroom, the Manager immediately came over and folded his napkin. Each dish came out with the right timing, allowing the Bussers to clear our table, set the correct silverware for the next course, and allowing our server to check in and get us more drinks. These are proper steps of service, and very few restaurants do it right. It was a refreshing experience. We dropped over $300 on this meal for just two of us, so it's not cheap, but it was worth every penny. Thanks to the team for a lovely meal and great experience. I also requested fries instead of chips but they forgot that part. Hubby ordered a Moroccan lamb wrap which he liked. Negatives and reason I docked 2 stars - They forgot my fries, Their seasonal sangria was good but pricy at $16/glass. Not a fan of their credit card upcharge either. Came in last night to celebrate my 5 years anniversary with the boyfriend. We were seated by the hostess right away. It took a few minutes for our server to come to our table and asked if we wanted water. A few minutes later, she came with water to drop it off and left before taking any orders. A few more minutes went by, she came to get orders for our drinks. By then, we've already figured what we wanted for our entire meal. It was surely a busy night for a Tuesday but it doesn't excuse the fact that we were there for 2 1/2 hours for mediocre service and food. I wanted to rate this place 5 stars... I really do because it was highly recommended by a lot of my clients. The few things I enjoyed was the margherita pizza, watermelon crush cocktails, and the duck confit with fried rice. The crispy calamari was good but wasn't great. They tried too hard to make it different. Would've been perfectly fine with laying it on a bed of arugula and chipotle and garlic aioli sauce but they also added capers & pickled onions (which threw the flavors/texture off). The bolognese wasn't impressive either. The pasta was way undercooked. It tasted like school lunch. Even school lunch tastes better. The side dishes (such as the Brussels sprouts, potato latkes, and mushrooms) were too salty. No one asked us if we were celebrating anything. No one came by for dessert menus. It felt like we were playing the waiting game for each of our courses/drinks to come out for the evening. The food and service are excellent. I love this place. But the credit card fee is ridiculous. You're paying a ton for dinner, still tipping, and now paying extra just for using a card? It feels like the diners are getting penalized while the servers lose out. Oh in Pennsylvania have to pay tax so there's that. Honestly, it ruins an otherwise great experience. If there wasn't a credit card fee, this restaurant would get five stars from me. Usually businesses that charge credit card fees only get one star for me. Let me start by saying I'm usually stingy with my five star reviews but Sovana Bistro really deserves it! We tried this place for the first time tonight to celebrate a birthday. I had done some research and was looking for a new place to try and this place had gotten some nice reviews. The reviews were right! This place was really great! To start, it's new and clean inside and has a quaint ambiance. Adding to that, the staff is super friendly and attentive. Our waitress Francesca was outstanding! Great attitude, great smile, great listener, knowledgeable - a rare find! The food is farm to table so it is super fresh. They even make their own pasta. Early on the waitress made note that we were celebrating a birthday and later in the evening even circled back to that fact when she asked the individual if he wanted some dessert for his birthday. One really nice touch was that our waitress let us know that each course would come out separately (it's a pet peeve of mine when the main course comes out too close to or even at the same time as the appetizer). It made me comforted in a way and she did not disappoint! Everything was timed to perfection! We had a carafe of water on the table, which I think is also a nice touch and eases the burden of the waitstaff while making sure customers have something to drink at all times. As a pleasant surprise our dining experience began with amuse-bouche "gift from the kitchen" gazpacho shooters which were super tasty. We then had a cheese board and a bread board as appetizers. The raisin bread was a standout, but it was all delicious. For dinner (there were four of us) there was pizza, rigatoni and meatballs and a Sovana double burger (with egg and bacon). The meatballs were soft and flavorful and the perfect blend with the homemade pasta. I didn't try the pizza personally but the individual who ordered it ate the whole thing! As for the burger, I got to try a bite and it was truly amazing, as were the crispy, salty string fries that came with it! We managed to save room for dessert and there was crème brûlée that was rich and velvety and delicious, a s'mores bowl (chocolate, graham crackers and seared marshmallows) that was rich and gooey and amazing, and also a yummy chocolate cake with a coffee ice cream. In fact, one of the crème brûlées even came out with a birthday candle on it, showing their attention to detail! Overall, I definitely recommend this place for a celebration or a date night for sure! I've heard such great things about Sovana and I was so excited to try it out. The inside is gorgeous with a boho/farmhouse vibe. The bar is a cool curved shape with super comfy chairs. The libation menu is pretty huge and they had pretty cool flights to choose from. The cocktails are pretty pricey but look delicious! The truffle Mac and Cheese was absolutely creamy and delicious! The Brussels were extremely underwhelming. They weren't crispy at all and tasted kind of burnt. The mushroom pizza was a hit (obviously near the mushroom capital)! Came for New Year's Eve and reserved a high top in the bar area. We arrived early and were seated immediately. Our server was Matt and he was awesome. We ordered champagne to toast the New Year and ordered a few appetizers to start. Apps came out fast and were so good. We had the Tuna Tartare and the Carpaccio of Wagyu Beef and scallops. For dinner we ordered Butternut Squash Ravioli, duck leg confit, short rib and steak. The ravioli was very good with plenty of flavor and the short rib was melt in your mouth good. The menu offers a nice variety of options from tuna tartare, avocado toast, pear Gorgonzola balsamic drizzled wood fired pizza to vegetarian protein bowl. The waitress was attentive and offered suggestions while placing our order. The food was fresh and served with excellent presentation. This place is amazing! From the moment you walk in, you know it's going to be an experience. The interior is very rustic modern. It's not overly crowded with tables but the bar area is very hard to sit at. They crammed every chair they could in and it's very uncomfortable. Several in our group were very confused by the menu but the staff was excellent at explaining everything and giving recommendations based on taste palette. The food was great! We ordered drinks similar to an old fashioned and Pisco sour. Then for appetizers we had the split pea soup which was the soup of the day and a warmed goat cheese board. Everything was delish and just enough to get us to the next course. We are here last night (New Year's Eve)and had a great meal. We were told when we confirmed our reservation that the next reservation was at a certain time- I feel like that sets a tone - there was an underlying current of hurriedness. Despite that our meal was outstanding. We shared an apple salad . At 16$one expects it to be delicious and it was . I had a fantastic strip steak that was perfectly cooked it came with some potatoes and roasted onions. It was one of the best steaks I've ever had out. My husband had the striped bass which was delicious as well- it came with mashed potatoes. The platter also includes parsnip, hummus, and tempura root vegetables. The salads are superb. Entrées are well prepared and seasonal, usually locally sourced. The only negative was the the wine we ordered. While the wine itself was fine, the pour was quite miserly. There should be four glasses to a bottle of wine, looks like they were trying for six. Sovana Bistro - Kennet Square - This place has been on my hit list for about 4 years. When I told our friends I made a reservation here she said it was her favorite restaurant. ( "Santa " gets her a Gift Card here every year and now I know why. ) The food and drinks are sophisticated but the atmosphere feels casual and not pretentious..... but still nice enough to come here for a celebration. We got the grilled brie, brussell sprouts, sausage and fennel pizza, meatballs, roasted mushrooms, something with eggs ( I didn't order it) , hamburger, butternut squash ravioli, octopus, butterscotch cake with a side of vanilla gelato and chocolate molten lava cake with a side of coffee gelato. Everything was extremely delicious but the highlights for me were the butternut squash ravioli ( made in-house), roasted mushrooms, brussell sprouts and the octopus ( and easy dish to get wrong). I noted on our online reservation that we had a birthday and without having to mention it when we got there, there was a special birthday card on the table and when they brought desserts there was a candle on the cake. I'm always impressed when the place remembers without having to remind them. The only negatives was that service was on the slower side and some of the entree portions also seemed a bit small. This place is 5 minutes from Longwood Gardens so a great option if you want a nice meal nearby. It's a long drive here for us but was well worth and was quite scenic on this beautiful fall day. Amazing!! We celebrated our 30th anniversary and it was truly memorable. We were greeted at the door and seated immediately with reservations. We were greeted by the owner/manager as well. Our server, Brandon was quick to introduce himself, get our drinks and explain the specials while being friendly and informative. My drink was "Dark like my soul" it was the most interesting drink I've had. We started our meal with the charcuterie board and it was delicious everything was fresh and interesting yet simply savory. My allergies were not a problem which helps to relax and enjoy. My meal was a fish special it was cod in a tomato puree with rice and vegetables. It was cooked to perfection the accompaniments were perfect. My Husband had the NY strip special and he thoroughly enjoyed it, it was cooked perfectly to order. The mashed potatoes were a hit. Our desserts were crème brûlée and brown butter torte both were a perfect ending to an outstanding meal. My Husband left his wallet and the manager/owner rushed out to the parking lot to return it, much appreciated. The staff is attentive and not smothering. The atmosphere is relaxed sophistication with a fun twist. The staff is on it and the time between courses is perfection. The restaurant runs like a well oiled machine. We can't wait to return. This was one of the best meals that I have had in a very long time! My sister-in-law chose for our family to go here before heading to Longwood Gardens (about 5 minutes away) and I knew nothing about it before arriving. Our group of 7 had a reservation for 4:45pm and other than a few people at the bar, we were the only ones there (they only open at 4:30, so no big surprise). We were immediately seated at a round table in the back of the restaurant which was awesome because it made it really easy for us all to have conversations across the table. Our server was awesome (I wish I remembered her name) and we had excellent service from her and other staff from getting orders, clearing tables, delivering food, etc etc. They were on top of it for sure! We never had to wait for anything and the timing of food delivery was perfect. We tried the calamari and brussel sprouts for appetizers, both of which were super tasty. I loved the sweet chili aoli that was served with them. The calamari was fried perfectly crispy and had an even amount of rings and tentacles ( my fav). We all also had drinks (wine, beer, cocktails) which were all delicious and came out quick. The cocktails were very strong which is great when paying $11-15 for a drink. The Old Fashioned was perfect. That is my go-to cocktail at new places to 'test' their bartenders. As for dinner, my husband and I shared the salad special (greens, pomegranate seeds, squash, pistachio crusted goat cheese, radish and balsamic reduction and the mushroom pizza. Oh my goodness, each and every single bite rocked my world. The salad was absolutely perfect. The balance of tart and sweet was perfect and had a great combination of textures. The pizza, oh wow, the pizza. It was a wild mushroom pizza with truffle oil and was incredible. I'm over here drooling as I daydream about it. I would honestly order it again today if I went back. Everyone else seemed really happy with their food too. Other table orders included the burger, the house-made pasta bolognese and the farro salad. Everyone was pleased. Updating my review per my last experience. I had reservations for dinner in the "outside" section. Luckily I was wearing a few layers, because the covered outside section was quite cold. I thought there would be some heat lamps to make up for the cold weather outside. Our waitress was attentive, and she did come to the table at the right amount of times. Our drinks were delivered at an appropriate time. However, our main course came right after our drinks were delivered, and our appetizer (cheese board) was not yet delivered. When we told the person delivering our meal that we had not yet received our appetizer, he asked us if we wanted him to box up the main course. This was quite confusing. We assumed our cheeseboard would come out before our main meal, just like previous visits. Our waitress came by and apologized. She said that they would prepare a new main course for us after our appetizer was delivered. We also noticed that all of the tables around us had received the chefs compliment appetizer, and we had not. But we did not bring this up to our waitress, as we already had a much larger issue. When the cheeseboard came out, the person delivering the cheeseboard did not explain the cheeses to us. Luckily our waitress came over shortly after. The cheeseboard was good, as usual. My husband had gotten the grilled skirt steak with butternut squash purée. It was supposed to be cooked medium, but it was well done. On top of that, it was very chewy, and some parts were over cooked. It was a waste of $41. Again, we did not complain to our waitress. On the other hand, my pasta special was good. After this experience, I did not have any motivation to order dessert, but my husband was still hungry after barely touching his steak. I'm shocked at the dinner my husband ate here. For an appetizer, we had the octopus, which was below average. I ate the hamburger with fries. I could not order the hamburger medium-rare. The burgers all are cooked at the same doneness. The quality of the meat was great, but but the rest of the burger was not tasty. The fries were delicious. My husband ordered the expensive overly-dry and not too well seasoned chicken. We ate half of it The accompanying vegetables we could not eat. Looking back on our meal, we should have shared the fries, and eaten the meat from the burger. CHOPPED ROMAINE CAESAR fermented- garlic crusted croutons, shaved parmesan My husband really enjoyed his Caesar salad. The very large slice of thin crispy bread on top was so good!
