This is becoming a favorite! The service is incredible and we love the ambiance. The salmon was perfectly done but on the smaller side. My mom's pasta dish was yummy but also small. We actually ended up ordering a pizza to go because we were both not full (that's never happened to us before) but it worked out because the pizza was SO good. I'd recommend getting at least an appetizer to go with your entree but everything has been delicious! read more

I dine out frequently and my expectations are high. Last night my scampi entrée came out cold. Before sending it back, I asked the others at my table if their food was hot and they said that it was but I have my doubts. I told our server that my food was lukewarm and I'd like it hot and he took my plate away. The manager came out a few moments later with a fresh plate that was as cold as the first. Then, I felt pressured to be finished even though I wasn't, when the server came to clear dinner plates. I left disappointed and hungry. I was excited to learn that Hearth Kitchen was acquired by The Platinum Dining Group. My husband surprised me and made reservations for dinner for their Grand Opening. When we arrived, we were greeted by several people and seated in a booth. The remodel is beautiful, and the small table lamps are a nice touch. (Nothing worse than trying to read a menu in a dark restaurant). The menu is simple and I love it. They have something for everyone, offering pastas, salads, fish, homemade pizzas and more. We started off with cocktails and two appetizers, the Tuna Poke and the Fried Calamari. The calamari was very good and the sauce was spicy but I liked it. The tuna melted in your mouth and I liked the grilled pineapple. The cocktails took a while, and one drink went back twice because it wasn't right. The server apologized and the manger did as well. For dinner we ordered the Seared Halibut and the HK Smash Burger with french fries. The halibut was cooked perfectly and I liked the corn and little pasta. The smash burger was good but tasted salty and I liked the bun. For dessert we split the Budino, a vanilla custard with coconut, hot fudge and mini butter cookies. It was delicious! Overall, the food was great but the service was not. We had to ask for water and our food and drinks took a while to come out. However, it was a busy opening night and the manager did comp us two drinks for the mishap. Once things get worked out, I am sure it will be amazing. Very nice setting , quiet and really nice. We sat at the bar the bartender was little quiet and not really attentive. Food came out , appetizers were fine. Entry came out the pork chops were under cooked , potatoes were cold. We decided to order desert and we asked about they cookie dough chocolate chip. Sherri's to talk us out of it. Stating it takes 25 min to prepare . Smh the pizza guy told her no it doesn't . We ordered it anyway. Not bad . Bartender walked by several times never asking. This has been one of the most perplexing dining experiences I've had. We came to Heart Kitchen after visiting the Longwood Gardens. We saw the decent reviews online on Google, but regret not checking Yelp first. Our visit to this restaurant was on a Monday afternoon and was almost empty when we arrived. Even though there was plenty of staff available, it took a while for us to get our order. The menu is confusing. I'm not sure if this is a Mediterranean or American type of restaurant. The ambiance was quiet. We had the Chicken Milanese and Gnocchi. Both tasted ok but not great. However, we were disappointed by the plating. The plating was some of the worse I've seen. First time to hearth since the ownership change. We ordered drinks before looking at the new "improved" menu. Given they didn't change the name it didn't even cross our minds, but lo and behold it's completely new and frankly...not that good. We didn't want a single appetizer, and then we saw the prices. Did they forget they're in a strip mall next to an eye doctor and a TJ Maxx? If I'm spending 50 a plate, it's not going to be here, and it's not going to be for THAT menu. The middle of the menu says it all: go French with a bottle of veuve clicquot and fries for 147 bucks. That's literally 1/6th of the ENTIRE menu visual real estate. So we kindly told the waiter we'll finish our drinks pay and get out of their hair since this simply wasn't what we were in the mood for, we'd been here prior and liked it and didn't expect the menu change. What happens? Lots of conversations between the waiter and presumably management, clearly talking about us, never coming over to ask why (if they cared enough to talk about us, they should have asked if there was an issue), and they made us wait for the check during all of this. I'm assuming they were thinking we balked at or couldn't pay the prices. We can. You just aren't getting my money for a restaurant redo that just isn't do-ing. We left and got food elsewhere. Thanks for making it embarrassing to say "no thanks" when we were incredibly kind and direct to the waiter about it. We even offered to move to the bar to free the table for them, which felt right to offer since we were changing gears and holding a table. The waiter said no big deal, just stay. Decided to check out Hearth Kitchen after seeing that they are under the same family as La Fia and Merchant Bar in Delaware. The restaurant is located in a shopping center with plenty of parking. I made a reservation for a Friday night. Overheard the hostess saying that they were completely booked for the next two hours. The restaurant filled up pretty quickly. The restaurant has happy hour from 4-6. The portion size was great. The cast iron crab dip was tasty. My only complaint was that the pizza ends were a little too done for my liking. I decided to go with a wood oven pizza with half meatballs and cheese. The meatballs were a weird texture but the pizza was flavorful. I always like to check out the dessert menu before I visit a restaurant, but I could not find a dessert menu on their website. The waitress brought over a dessert menu and I was relieved. I ordered the bourbon butterscotch pudding. The perfect ending to my meal. The desserts seem to be seasonal. I saw an apple tart on their social media page but did not see it on the menu. The restaurant was family friendly and saw several families come in with young children. If you are visiting Longwood Gardens, you should check out Hearth Kitchen. read more

Spend the late morning hours at Longwood Gardens and drive about a mile to Hearth Kitchen. Ate outside on the patio which was a pleasant atmosphere with a slight breeze and great music. The waiter , Justin, we had was fantastic! We ate gnocchi and agnolotti which is somewhat like a ravioli with a great cheese in the center! Both dishes were lovely! If you think you're going to get the same quality and taste of food from the original Hearth don't come here. There was an earlier review where they said something similar so I'm glad I'm not the only one. We had reservations on a Saturday evening and upon entering this place was packed and very loud. We sat at the bar because they couldn't seat us yet and ordered an overpriced bottle of French wine. The wine was very good but their wine prices are what I expect after the tariffs take effect. Most restaurants around here are charging obnoxiously high wine prices and it's unacceptable. They are still a BYOB, but they now charge a $30 corkage fee, whereas the original Hearth only charged the $15 corkage fee. $30 for a corkage fee is a total douche move. (Read on to see my last comment.) We were finally seated, although about 20 minutes after our reservation time. Our server was very nice and did the best she could and the hostesses and bartenders were also very nice. I don't have a complaint about the service. Now the food. The only reason I rushed to this restaurant is because they had me at medi platter which consisted of baba ganoush, feta, and hummus. The baba ganoush and feta were incredibly disappointing and tasted packaged. I make better hummus and baba ganush than this. The feta was gross. It was so lemony I ended up taking it home and then throwing it away. I ordered the halibut entree. I'm very cautious about ordering fish around here because I don't think many chefs know bake it properly. I was pleasantly surprised so five stars for the halibut. It was delicious. Even the leftovers were really good. My husband had the hamburger and was incredibly disappointed. It just wasn't that great and it was lukewarm. Don't think we'll be rushing back here. There was another review who mentioned that the owners and management should have talked to those who frequented the original Hearth to find out what they liked and what they didn't. Based on what I'm hearing from the stree, t sounds like the owners did not do a very good job with transiting over for both the original staff or their customers. What a great time we had at The Hearth Kitchen this evening... My wife, myself and our 2 sons had dinner, and it was awesome...We had the calamari, a couple of pasta dishes, and the pepperoni pizza, along with a great desert...The calamari was off the charts good...Our pastas were super, and the pizza was great as well...The desert was the Smores, and was sooo good...The server (Jordan) did a great job...She was friendly, knowledgeable, and efficient...Karl, the owner, and Kelly (one of their multi-site managers) stopped by to chat with us, and left us feeling very appreciated...Will definitely be back...Looking forward to trying their Smash Burger...Well worth the visit... read more

New ownership has really taken the food down a notch. I wish they would have spent the time they spent on redecorating on finding out what the regulars liked most about Hearth Kitchen. I got the baby gem salad - which was literally a head of Romain lettuce with the bottom cut off and its few other ingredients tossed haphazardly on the plate. I added 4oz steak to my salad - it was overcooked and fatty. My husband ordered the euro chicken breast - basically just a chicken breast with potatoes and carrots. We had nothing to drink and the bill was $67. We don't mind paying for a good meal, but this was average at best. I do not think we will be back. read more

Been to two Michelin starred restaurants in my life and the service here was on par with both. Drinks are a solid 9.5/10 overall with the presentation for some (Kennett Squared and Ill Picante) really brings a wow factor. Made-in-house pasta, delicious pizza, and unique shareables made it an amazing dining experience overall. Been here twice so far with more visits planned for the future. Recommendations would be garlic bread, south Philly pizza, and cacio e pepe, but the medi trio and pork chop are great too. Husband and I had dinner last night at Hearth - one of our go-tos . We love the Crow cocktail and it was delicious as usual. Husband had chicken parm which was quite good. Came with a very large portion of spaghetti . I had the Ribeye- it was delicious - came with an herb butter on top and was served with smoked potatoes and roasted maitake mushrooms. The steak was just a shade rare - ordered medium rare - but I happily ate it - so buttery and tender. read more

The first time we tried Hearth was for order out pizza a few months ago simply because it was the only place we could get an order out pizza a Monday. I'm very fussy about pizza since I make my own. First, the crust - it is crisp without being dry - it has a loftiness without being too soft or doughy - it has an earthy flavor and not too salty Second, the sauce (on Margherita pizza) - great flavor - not overly salty - just the right amount on the pie Third, the topping - the Margherita pizza has just the right amount of cheese - it could use more fresh basil - the extra request for garlic was roasted cloves and not too oily I've also tried the Garlic-Ricotta pizza and the crust, cheese, rapini all perfect balance. IMHO - the best local restaurant pizza around. We have eaten in location, too. Food and salads was good. Serve was very friendly. I was a big fan of Hearth Kitchen after my first time coming here. There were four of us dining, and we came on a Saturday night for dinner, which was pretty packed so make sure you make a reservation! We all shared the cheese board to start, and it was really good! Lots of good cheeses and meats to go around. Since my friend had mentioned that their pasta is really good, we all ordered a pasta dish. My bucatini dish was good, but my bf's pappardelle dish was even better. The tiramisu dessert was also very good. They had a great drink selection, as well. To start with, our server Monica was lovely. She was very nice and quick with our table, and I can confidently say she was the best server I have ever had in my entire life. I will never forget Her attitude, speed, and kindness with our table, truly remarkable. Now with the food, I got the steak frites medium rare and it was perfectly cooked, the fries were properly salted and the asparagus and mushrooms were delightful. The service is always great, the bar is consistently providing good cocktails, and the food never disappoints. Tonight we enjoyed the hush puppy app (they were a special) and the garlic bread, especially the butter served with! For dinner I got the cacio e pepe and my fiancé ordered the chicken parm (which was by far one of the best I'd ever tried). Came here with a large party to celebrate a friend's engagement. It was only a 6 min drive from Longwood Gardens. The place itself isn't too too big, but we were seated in a private room due to us having a party of 20ish. We got a special menu that was addressed to the friends and family of the celebrant which was really nice. The atmosphere itself was pretty nice, ambient lighting and offers a warm, comforting feel. We started with drinks which were pretty great. I had the Crow and I was pleasantly surprised with how much I enjoyed it, though be warned, one drink was plenty for me and lasted me the entire meal. Had the calamari and beef empanadas for appetizers and while the flavor wasn't bad, we agreed that they could have been cooked longer to make it more crispy. For entrees I had the gnocchi, which I was a bit disappointed in. It felt like I was eating regular pasta while I was expecting pillowing potato gnocchi that I'm used to. My food also came luke warm instead of hot which I was hoping for. The "pasta" tasted very aldente, almost too hard for my liking, maybe a little more time cooking would have been better. Chose the creme brulee for dessert and this probably brought the most disappointing because the whole dish tasted salty? As if they used salt instead of sugar for the custard. The torched sugar on top wasn't torched enough so instead of a nice sugary crack I just tasted the granules of sugar. Despite the other reviews, I thought the service was pretty alright. Our main server was attentive to us and was very pleasant. One of the food runners did set my plate right on top of my phone but that just made me laugh. The food did take a long time to come out but we're a big party so I kinda figured that would be okay. Overall, I probably wouldn't come here again, but it was a nice place to accommodate our big party for us to celebrate our friends. read more

For the second course I had the tasty short rib and the steak. The steak was the best steak I have had in my most recent memory. We stumbled upon Hearth Kitchen as we were looking for a place to eat after Longwood Gardens, when we saw Hearth Kitchen we immediately knew it was our vibe. It was busy and the pizza looked insanely good. The atmosphere and location are perfect, close to my Longwood Gardens and open late. they also have an excellent bar program so they make some pretty great cocktails. There was no wait when we went. Around 6:30pm, but the place was pretty full. Pizza was good, wish it was more crunchy or toasted. I've had other Neapolitan pizza that had more crunch while not being overly hard. Maybe it's a preference. Again the pizza was good just couldn't say it's the best pizza I've had. The pizza did not blew me away. I was also impressed by the hot sauce selection, they have local small batch hot sauce. Not many places have this, so it's a big plus in my opinion. Service was good, but I did feel it needed to be a little more attentive. It was friendly and informative however. First time trying and I must say I was blown away. We had the Boar dish and the Ricotta Gnocchi dish. Absolutely spot on from flavor to portions. Finished off with the bourbon bread pudding and espresso. Not one negative comment from a 36 year food service veteran. Very poor service, no hostess, waiter took 10 minutes to come to table and the food ugh the food was not edible. The calamari was a very small portion and not shareable for $13. We ordered 2 pasta dishes that were a kids meal size for $22 each. There is no offer of bread or salad with the pasta meal. It's not required but for the price it seems expected. Our last meal at Hearth was so good! Since the pandemic we have been eating in our car and Hearth made our last dining adventure a five star experience. When I called in our order, the hostess was super friendly and gladly accommodated our request to have no salt added to our dishes. When I picked up our food everyone at the restaurant was friendly and our food was well packaged and the desserts were in a separate bag (which some restaurants can't figure out because your hot food always goes well with cold key lime pie, right?). Granted our mobile dining room (aka car) could have been cleaner but we didn't care at all because we had really tasty butternut squash soup with creme fraiche, pepitas, and pumpkin seed oil. The mussels with white wine, cream, and speck were also good tasting, as was the cocoa & coffee short rib with blistered shisito peppers and carmelized polenta croutons. But the star of the show had to be the 14 ounce grilled strip steak. I have enjoyed the strip steak at Hearth before but when we visited a month or so ago I overheard that they started using grass fed beef for the steak. What a difference. The steak was phenomenal and better than any steak house in the area. It was perfectly cooked and served with delicious Brussels sprouts with bacon and carmelized onions, butter braised leeks, and sauce at poivre. It was so good that I can't see not ordering it on our next visit. Dessert was the reliable, always delicious lemon tart with graham cracker almond crust. A perfect ending to a wonderful meal. Oh wait...you're still here. Well in that case you will also want to try Hearth's fantastic crab dip and pumpkin agnolotti with pecans, brown beech mushrooms, Marsala cream, and sage brown butter We had those on a previous visit and they are both excellent. I can't believe I've been living in Kennett and never tried Hearth Kitchen! I heard great things for years, and I love La Fia and Merchant Bar both, but Hearth Kitchen was never quite convenient (since we usually prefer to walk to dinner in the borough). We decided to give it a try over the weekend, and I was blown away. First of all, it had a good menu of mixed drinks and wine--a nice change among so many BYOBs in the area. Second, the food was amazing. We shared a number of menu items, and each was more delicious than the next. The calamari was perfectly cooked. The caesar salad was really big (even the small size), and the dressing had just the right amount of anchovy flavor. The cannelloni is the reason I will probably be back again very, very soon. The chicken was perfect, the pasta was perfect, and the mushrooms made it a great Kennett Square choice. I can't stop thinking about it. Make a reservation (can be done online), as it was really busy on a Friday night. And, correspondingly, it was super loud while people sat at the bar and waited for tables when we got there at 7:30, but it quieted down by about 8:30/9:00. I really appreciated that because we had a reservation, we did not have to wait. This is definitely a great pick if you're in town visiting Longwood Gardens, or if you're local and looking for a nice restaurant. read more
