What a wonderful surprise! We have been walking past this darling place for a few months now. Today, Sunday, we decided to stop for a nice lunch al fresco. Beautiful weather. I had read the couple's story who opened Sweet Amelia's and was drawn by their culinary background and farm to table menu. Angelic was our server and she was incredible! She answered every question about each dish we inquired about. I was blown away by the fresh made Tagliatelle pasta with pork Ragu in a light cream sauce, topped with orange zest, crunchy breadcrumbs. What an explosion of flavors in every single bite! I love a nice crunch, and this dish delivered. Seasoned to perfection. My husband enjoyed a brunch dish Chilaquiles Verde with poached eggs. Uniquely, prepared with black refried chickpeas. Wow!! What flavors this dish delivered. Even the side of Breakfast potatoes were fresh cut and perfectly prepared with a light crunch on the outside and served piping hot. We are returning! I was in town for my best friend's birthday and we needed a place to grab lunch. She has a Yelp collection of restaurants she wants to try and Sweet Amelia's was on it. I'm so happy we came it, it was DELICIOUS! We were seated immediately. The service was great. This cozy restaurant has a lot of great natural lighting and homey decor. We were a group of three. One of our friends ordered the shakshouka and adored it. My bestie and I decided to share plates and got the fried scallops and squash cream tonnarrelli. The tonnarrelli was almost like a squash mac and cheese, it was delightful. And the scallops WERE INCREDIBLE! You have to order these. I'm drooling thinking about how delicious they were. Do know that things are a bit on the pricier side here, but I recommend doing things family style. read more

My wife and I stopped by for dinner - our first time there. We got the seasonal iced tea and sangria to drink, both were complex and delicious. The menu is innovative and one of a kind. We couldn't limit our picks and started with the Grilled Kennett Square mushrooms, Camembert with carrot caramel foam, and the chilled pea soup with mint. We also ordered the Nashville hot catfish and curry soft shell crab. The caramel foam was delicious and paired perfectly with the cheese and bread. The pea soup was refreshing and harmonized well. The mushrooms were simply delightful. The catfish was cooked extremely well, with the crust (with a corn meal crust?) remaining crunchy and the fish juicy, with the seasonings on point and spicy. The curry soft shelled crab was the winner among many winning choices and was perfect. We couldn't stop raving about it. We enjoyed it so much, we overindulged and ordered the lamb. The meat was exceptionally soft, even for rack of lamb. Unable to resist the dessert menu, we finished with the rhubarb sorbet with basil water and granola. My wife is not a fan of rhubarb or basil, but also loved the dessert and its balance and uniqueness. The service was excellent and attentive, and the restaurant is very cute and cozy. My wife has worked in restaurants for years and we were both thoroughly impressed by the execution and care for all the items we ordered. We had a spectacular dinner at Sweet Amelia's! The weather was perfect so we sat outside beneath the string lights and took in the quaintness of the town square. The staff were very pleasant and patient as we figured out what we wanted to eat. I tried their roasted butternut squash dish w/turnbroc while my fiancé ate the chuck eye steak. Don't let the lack of options keep you away - quality vs. quantity proves to be absolutely true here! My meat & potatoes loving husband was not looking forward to meeting four friends here because he didn't like the menu. Once there we ordered five "snacks" and devoured each one. There were only 5 choices for entrees, but that proved to be too many! I had a hard time choosing! I went with a pasta and it did not disappoint. I would definitely go back. read more

Wow!!! My friend and I went to Sweet Amelia's for the first time last night and it was phenomenal. We were both so surprised that this gem is tucked away in Kennett and people don't seem to have caught on. Every dish was amazing - we got the chicken skin tea sandwiches, hamachi collar, lamb kofta, halibut, beef cheek ragú, and finished with the chocolate olive oil cake. Not one miss in the whole bunch. Third Thursday was my first time at Sweet Amelia's. I met a group and we were excited by the menu. My pasta with lamb was good but lacked seasoning. The waitress was lovely and commented how no one had brought bread to the table. Five slices were delivered, so we all had a piece. When the bills arrived each of us were charged for a fifth of the bread we had not ordered. When we commented it was to be taken off. The receipts were returned with the charge still on. It was only a little over a dollar, so not worth complaining about, but it is wrong to charge for something we had not ordered. Overall, it was okay made great by the company but I'm not sure I'll be returning. read more

We had brunch at Sweet Amelia's on Saturday, and the food was fantastic! We were just surprised that we were the only people in the whole restaurant on a Saturday at lunch time. The restaurant is so cute with brick interior walls and booth tables facing the sunny windows. The waitress was friendly and helpful! We were seated right away. We ordered shishito peppers, tomate toast and crab dip to split. The crab dip and homemade crackers were so delicious. That was my favorite! The shishito peppers were also super tasty! I loved the ricotta toast with egg. Everything we tried was full of flavor and beautifully composed. We were so happy we tried this restaurant. I hope they have more people dining there most days. The entree I received was not what I'd ordered (but was an option I'd considered) so I started eating it. Once in a while you have one of those 'perfect' meals where it not only hits the spot and fully satisfies you in terms of hunger and taste but all other elements are also on point. This was one of those experiences. I ordered the Escargot on a toasted brioche with cafe de paris butter which was under the Snacks section of the menu and I initially figured it would not be enough to fully satiate me. I was wrong. This dish was beautifully presented and worthy of the video and picture I took before indulging. The escargot went perfectly with the brioche and the butter, which I typically don't like in general, was delicious and perfectly complemented and brought out the other two ingredients. Since I am on a diet and am focusing on not filling myself up as well as defaulting to ney when on the fence on whether or not I should eat more, I decided to stop after devouring my escargot and brioche and opted for the check. Nonetheless, this small dish filled me perfectly as all three elements particularly the butter were heavy enough to leave me feeling full and satisfied. My server was a very cool dude and was very cheerful, courteous, and respectful. The venue is conveniently located along the main strip right in town. Interior is deceiving as when you walk it it looks small and cramped but right around the corner there is more seating, and my seat allowed for some space and privacy. Anyway, in summary, this was an excellent meal that left me no guilt trip for adding too many calories or spiking up my blood sugar. I'm withholding two stars for a few reasons. First, the chairs and tables are skimpy for a large-ish person like me (220 lbs and 6-2). Second, the pork loin was way too fatty. I know this is a fatty cut, but more than half of what they gave me in this $55 entree was solid fat. They were out of the asparagus on the menu, even though there were few customers in the place. Went for a girls night after taking a nearby pottery class. Made a reservation and we're seated promptly. The decor is so cute and all of the dishes are uniquely designed. We loved the table with the bench by the window overlooking Kennet. We ordered a round of drinks- wine, coffee and beer. All were good! We ordered three courses to share and everything was so delicious! Our table loved the French onion dip with house made chips, the vegetable, and the house made ricotta pasta. Happened upon this charming restaurant for lunch! What a find! They source many items from local producers and they give them credit on the menu. Started with the "pillowy" tater tots. Not to be missed. Order two! My friends and I each had the mushroom ragu on homemade pasta. Fabulous flavor and a crunch of breadcrumbs on top. You must have dessert!! We shared the Bourbon Caramel Apple Cake - served warm with an apple compote - and the Chocolate Chile Pudding. Oh my! Almost like a dark chocolate mousse with a hint of heat. We were excited to finally try this spot. We did find they are no longer BYOB. But that was fine, we tucked our bottle of wine under the table and enjoyed the drink offerings. The food was delicious- at least what we ordered. It's definitely a creative menu and not for picky eaters in my opinion. We shared the blooming maitake, stuffed calamari, tortellini and braised short rib. None of them were a disappointment. The only thing I would recommend is a warmer environment. Even just changing the lighting to be dimmer/warmer in the section we sat. The window seats looked great but we sat in between the window area and back room. We met friends here for dinner and it was, from start to finish, lovely. They were able to accommodate us on very short notice, which was a huge relief because our other plans had fallen through. We had a great table in the front of the restaurant, and the service was great. It's also a BYO which is nice. The food was absolutely incredible. There is a large variety of small plates and snacks, and it was fun to order a bunch of things to share. Our server suggested the zucchini bread--probably not something we would have ordered otherwise, and I'm so glad we did! It was incredible. My favorite was the sweet and sour char crudo. The gouda and the stuffed baby sweets also did not disappoint. For mains, there is enough variety to please everyone. I had the tandoori spiced tofu--it's refreshing to see such a unique vegetarian dish, and it was delicious. I also tasted the chuck eye steak and skate wing--both great. For dessert, it was tough to choose between the swedish chocolate cake and the buttermilk cake. We went for the chocolate--heavenly. Next time, we will try the buttermilk cake and some of of the great pasta options. Can't wait to return! read more

Sweet Amelia's We stopped in Saturday at lunchtime on our way to the Brandywine Museum of Art for a snack/light lunch. We liked that the menu wasn't just another boring average also-ran (horse racing reference). Everything was either unique, or had a unique twist. The crispy chicken skin tea sandwich had me at hello. Light (at least it seemed), tasty, ultra thin green tomato slice to give just the right bite, and a peri peri dipping sauce to die for. My berry lemonade was great, and had several mixed berries to harpoon with my straw. My wife had the parfait and loved the assortment and ripeness of the fruit. I also tried the red grits, ham gravy and greens brunch item. Although I didn't have the room for such a heavy meal, what I was able to finish was excellent. Our waitress was very attentive and personable, and the chef even stopped at our table to introduce herself and chat. We definitely plan to return soon. Great way to start our day! read more

My husband and I were so excited for another BYOB to open in Kennett Square that wasn't the same cuisine, as most of the other restaurants in the area. (I mean, how many more Italian, Mexican, and Asian restaurants do we need around here?) We were very excited when checking out the menu and saw it was different then many of the other places. Unique is a beautiful thing and that's what they are. We also noticed the prices on the menu as high, but that didn't scare us because we assumed the portion sizes would be fair. We go for both quality and quantity. I'm going to emphasize quantity. Because I want this small business to survive, I am going to gave it four stars even though I'd like to give it three because I thought the portions were very small for what they charged. Actually a bit insulting but whatever. We ordered the zucchini bread which was delicious. My husband ordered the pasta dish which was tiny. He and I were staring at it, wondering where the rest of it was. I wanted to try a little bit, but even him sharing one pasta piece with me would have made a negative difference in what he had in front of him. It was delicious but there wasn't enough to really appreciate it. I ordered the tofu entree which was delicious but it was appetizer size. For what I paid, I was expecting the dish to be much bigger. I enjoyed the few forkfuls that it was. The tofu was well prepared and the sauce tasted homemade. Not many chefs can master the art of delicious tofu. Yay team. Just way too expensive for the size. I am seeing other reviews stating the small portion sizes. I hope that the owners consider lowering the prices or increasing the portion sizes. We'd really like to go back to this restaurant but can't justify paying the prices for the small portion sizes. I have high hopes for you Sweet Amelia's so do the right thing! read more

This is a tough review because of the complexity of the menu. The menu items are creative, but the portions for what you pay are very small. We had the chicken skin sandwiches which were delicious but 3 or 4 bites and your done. The mushroom tartare was good but very small and the chips got soggy sitting in the mushrooms. We got the shrimp tortellini and for the price it was very very small, about 10 tortellini a third of the size of normal tortellini. There were no shrimp in the dish, if they were in the tortellini, they were chopped up very small. The flavor was good but the sauce was a bit watery and was more likely a broth. The duck was excellent and the portion was good, but I think the price was a few dollars higher than equivalent duck I have gotten elsewhere. I think this place has potential but needs to expand the menu and portion sizes a bit for the price. In addition, we are foodies, but there was a lot of words used without a descent description, so it was hard interpreting the menu. I am not sure if I would go back unless this changes. Giving an honest review and hope this place thrives as I support kennett and their small restaurants. read more
