The waitress…read morebrought an egg that was still coated in raw egg all over, one of the runniest most undercooked eggs I've ever been served, no exaggeration. I asked if they could cook it more, which I never do, I never send things back bc I'm afraid of insulting the person's cooking skills who is handling my food. But this egg was still clucking. She took the plate, walked into the kitchen, we heard chopping sounds for 2 seconds and she brought it immediately back. She was gone with it for seriously under 30 seconds. She set it on the table and announced "I didn't want to turn it brown" and walked away. The egg was exactly the same doneness, but now chopped up. I don't know why I let this peer pressure make me second guess my judgment and intuition, but we were traveling due to a family tragedy and I was just tired and stressed and needed to feed my hungry baby. So I fed her the egg. Halfway through, my breakfast was brought to the table with a well-cooked egg on the plate, so I swapped hers for mine. I guess Border just feels really strongly that adults need fully cooked eggs and babies need raw ones. Later that night, my baby vomited. Then again. And again. She vomited 7 times all through the night. I vomited once. Diarrhea all day yesterday for both of us. We didn't get to go see our sick family member, for whom we flew across the country. It was just such a huge stroke of bad luck that I felt the need to share... I hate to ream a humble business, but serving a raw egg to somebody for a baby is not cool. Especially when they asked it well cooked. And then to refuse to cook it more when asked. By a mom who is trying to protect her baby. And to pretend they had cooked it more when they clearly hadn't. Please listen to mothers when we advocate for our children. We truly know best for them.

We questioned our restaurant choice, but decided to keep an open mind and give it a try. We are so glad we did! The food was really good. Nice presentation and clearly, whoever prepared it is truly passionate about their job. The portions are large, so expect leftovers. We ordered a fried shrimp appetizer (similar to bang bang shrimp) and a chicken quesadilla as starters. Each could have been a meal on its own and both were delicious. (It's typical bar food - but done well.) For our main dishes we ordered Shepherds Pie (server's recommendation and favorite menu item ), Northern Fish Fry (cod); and a simple cheeseburger with bacon.. everything was tasty, nicely prepared, and again...large portions. The Shepherds Pie came with fresh steamed veggies that were wonderful and a nice surprise. *Note that cod is the Northern Fish Fry- but they also offer a catfish version. The wine was 50% off both by the glass and bottle, I believe that is their typical Saturday drink special. They have a prime rib special on Saturdays as well that is supposedly delicious, and served only until they run out. There is an 8oz or 12oz option. The server was fantastic as well. She was very attentive, knew the menu, and clearly enjoys her job. What more can you ask for? Prices: Our total bill (before tip) was $127 which included a couple drinks from the bar for each of us. The dinners we ate ranged from $16-$20. The starters were a bit pricey (~$18 for the quesadillas) but again, it was meal size and truly delicious. If you are hungry for a burger or typical Irish bar food, then give this place a try. Hopefully you'll have an experience similar to ours! (Our server was home from college for the holidays, so hopefully the rest of the staff is equally attentive.)

The salmon was seasoned well with a perfect sear, and the sides actually felt fresh and intentional, not like fillers. Loved the kale, the sweet potatoes, and that corn was shockingly good. The green sauce on the side added the right kick and pulled everything together. The cashier asked if I wanted to place a tip on my card, and I declined. When I received the none itemized receipt, it was $12.79 more, than my tally. I requested an itemized bill and received one you could barely see because the numbers were faded. I asked the cashier to check my numbers against the bill. When doing so, she still couldn't justify the difference after taxes, and 3.5% card fee. Also, shw wasn't sure if taxes were 7.5% either, but after adding it all in, she took my numbers and began refunding me in cash, which isn't the principal or was it okay. I left without understanding why, and with a clear itemized receipt. Folks, PLEASE START USING CASH. Merchants are taking advantage of us by charging 3.5% on top of taxes, not mention tips. The monthly fees they are charged for using a credit card machine very low, so imagine the incentives they gain, on top of increasing cost. The short of the story. The outside breading had a burnt taste, the inside was brown with a stringy texture, and there was no sign of fresh lump crab meat. The asparagus was bland, underseasoned, and served without butter. My husband ordered the fried cod and scallops, and he wasn't impressed either. Overall, the food didn't live up to the restaurant's reputation. Next time, we'll stick with the NC Seafood Restaurant at the Farmer's Market for fresh, hot seafood.
