Hartura is one of Wake Forest's gems. It is located in the Market of Wake Forest Shopping Center. The building has transformed from what was once home to Pizza Hut. It is on the side closer to Capital Blvd., and there is plenty of parking. Usually, when I dine here, I can select my own seat, and they bring me a menu, but at busy times, they will seat me. You can enter from either side of the building, and one side has a ramp. I try to enter on the left side as I like to look at the daily specials. Over the years, I have gotten to sample quite a bit on the menu. The portions are always large and generous. My favorites are the eggs Benedict, the burgers and the fried fish. But I have enjoyed everything I've eaten here. Breakfast can be ordered all day here. The menu has Southern dishes and Dominican dishes, too. I am always warmly greeted when I enter, and service is friendly and attentive. I'm usually given a tea to go as well. The prices are quite reasonable. read more

We joined some Wake forest groups to find things since we are soon moving up here. We had seen pictures of specials this restaurant had of like sandwiches and like chicken wings, grilled pork chops and some southern foods. The door we entered didn't have that sign so we thought maybe at the wrong place...(to be continued...) We entered and was greeted and immediately seated. Place wasn't very full but was clean and looked nice. Our server brought our menus and got our drinks, my boyfriend ordered us some Arepas and it came with 2 sauces one salsa verde and one mayo/ketchup mix. They had sandwiches and some Spanish Caribbean food. I decided to try something I have never had before and got the Ropa Vieja with black beans and tostones and He got the Cuban sandwich (with no mustard ) and maduros. It was delicious very flavorful food although my bf was like that would be good with white rice since Rooa vieja is stew like and so I ordered that as well and man....that was exactly what it needed (it should automatically come with it!) the meat was sooooo tender and juicy and delicious! Also I didn't realize what the tostones were so I ended up trading those for His maduros (which is what I thought I was ordering with the tostones...now I know better) The meat from his sandwich was also tender delicious well seasoned and make me jealous I didn't order it too! (Story continues) ....When our server came and asked how our meal was we definitely gave praises on the tasty meal but did ask him about the specials...he said "yeah it's on our board by the front door!!! Actually went for brunch a while back. Thought I posted a review but seems I forgot. Well, I do recall my wife and I enjoying the food. Was well prepared, tasted fresh, nicely seasoned without overkill. Interesting menu with a good variety. Not much ambiance, sort of a diner atmosphere, but service was decent and food was good. Wouldn't go for a special occasion, but for a decent weekday breakfast, brunch or lunch, it hit the spot. Will try again for sure. read more

Had a nice breakfast here. It's very close to my home, but somehow, we'd never been here. Service was great, we were asked if we needed more coffee many times. The Latin dishes were the standouts. Huevos rancheros was very tasty. Eggs Santo Domingo, a Dominican Benedict, was also very good and it's always nice to try a new taste. Basic American breakfast was also good, very nice potatoes. Wait staff greeted us quickly, took our drink order and helped us with questions about the menu. My Husband had the Sancocho per the waitresses recommendation. He loved it! The meat was tender, vegetables perfectly cooked and the broth delicious. It definitely tasted like it was made from scratch. The portion was so large he took home more than half and enjoyed it twice more. I had Mofongo with carnitas- I loved it! It's noon on a Saturday and my husband is feelin breakfast out. We could try the late line at Briggs, Waffle House is classic, then I recall we've yet to try Hartura, and they serve breakfast options all day! Walking in, it's very simple, not a ton of decor but nice. We are greeted right away and drink orders are taken. My husband likes that they have beer. Beer with breakfast, I guess that's the dream. He orders the biscuits and sausage gravy, I go with the house breakfast (eggs, toast, potatoes, bacon). Everything was so good! I feel like when I get breakfast out, at least one part is off. Not here! Fresh, perfectly cooked. I loved that the home fries have onion too. It's too late when I notice the specials board. I'm betting their chicken rice soup is amazing. Great food at this new-ish spot in Wake Forest. Hartura operates in a space formerly a Pizza Hut. It's a square dining room with about 20 tables. Decor is minimal, everything is clean and newly renovated. It's an eclectic menu of different varieties, with an emphasis on Latin specialties. Service is friendly, if a bit inattentive. Time from order to service about 20 minutes. Chicken and waffles is a typical prep. The waffle is fluffy inside with a crunchy crust, slightly sweet. Sadly the waffle was room temperature at service. A pounded, battered chicken breast is deep fried golden brown, served stop the waffle. Chicken is juicy with a nice crunch to the breading amd piping hot. Not greasy. Chicken didn't taste seasoned, is a little bland. Smothered with syrup, this is a decent C&W. The pernil dinner was delicious. Shredded, long-simmered pork, perfectly seasoned. Melt in your mouth tender. A cup of black beans and fried plantains accompany. A classic prep, executed well. Next time, will try the Cuban sandwich. read more

Harturas is in same shopping strip as Big Lots and took over an old Pizza Hut. It's on same side as Dairy Queen. They serve breakfast all day and lunch type foods with some Cuban type dishes. My veggie omelette was good with home fries and love that you can customize to your liking. Service was spot on. So glad I stopped here for breakfast. I ordered online for pick up and was stuck at a meeting for an extra hour. I arrived at Hartura much later than my selected pick up time. I was worried they had thrown out my order, but nope thankfully it was there and accurate. Pick-up was so easy. They have a convenient drive thru window. The employee at the drive thru window greeted me and handed me my order. I had ordered the eggs Santo Domingo. They were pricy at $13, but oh so good. The meal was well balanced and tasted excellent. I love plantains. Top them with poached eggs and hollandaise and they are even better. Even the arugula salad was delicious. The place is located in an old Pizza Hut located in a shopping center in Wake Forest. There is plenty of parking onsite. The menu offers your standard breakfast fare with some Dominican favorites. Prices here are very reasonable. It's clean and the service was good. The food took a little while to come out. My dish came out 10 minutes after everyone else got theirs. It was tasty albeit it bit cold. Everyone else said theirs was warm not hot but still good. Overall this visit was a 3.5 - 3.75. I round my reviews out to the highest rather than lowest number. Was quite happy with my Cuban sandwich w fries. It was the men's lunch group from the neighborhood, so I got to see several other choices - the breakfast plates were piled high, and I was particularly impressed with the bacon portions. The pancakes looked righteous! The burgers I saw being served looked really good too. In addition, the kitchen handled our 30 covers and kept up with the rest of the tables. The owners are not confused about what type of restaurant it wants to be, it's a fusion of traditional southern foods meets Caribbean. The best of both worlds. Dominicans, Latinos ... I got the Dominican chef to cater food for me for Christmas & New Years. Arroz, habichuelas rojas, platano Maduros, Pollo en salsa roja ... the Sancocho is legit. You can pass off their catering as your home style cooking. It's that authentic. What I'm afraid of is that there's not enough Latinos/Dominicans like me who can appreciate this place. The other day I saw "cabbage rolls" on the dinner specials. I said hold up "Is that niño envuelto ??" .... And yes it was. One bite into the cabbage rolls and I could cry. My Abuela (rip) made them the same way. I asked them if they sold a lot of cabbage rolls and they told me that most didn't understand what it was. Bummer. Can't say I've ventured into the American side of the menu yet. I typically comb through the menu and pick out solid Dominican plates. I have to leave a review for the great experience I had yesterday morning. I was craving breakfast and after a quick scroll through Yelp, decided to try Hartura out. I'm glad I did! The friendly and kind waitress, Andrea, offered me a fresh cup of coffee and offered me several refills throughout my visit. I commented that it was chilly in the restaurant and she assured me the heat was being switched on (it's just newly fall here, so the weather has been warm some days and cooler others). After a quick peruse of the menu I decided I wanted a club sandwich and fries (so glad they offer all menu items even at 9am!). I also ordered a takeout order of pernil with yuca fries and black beans for my husband and Andrea made sure to call in the order closer to the end of my meal so it would be fresh. I was blown away by my sandwich and the fries were crispy and delicious. I originally asked to hold the tomatoes, but they were left in. I didn't really mind because the sandwich was so tasty, but I let Andrea know. She was gracious to tell me later that she accidentally left that note off the ticket and admitted it was her fault. I really appreciated her honesty and told her it was okay. Later, when it was time to bring my takeout order home, the garlic smell coming from the bag was making me drool. It filed the entire front area of the restaurant! At home, my husband dug into his meal with gusto and was surprised to know that even the black beans were well-prepared and so tasty. Hartura is a place I've driven by many times, not knowing what they served inside until recently when a friend told me they served a slew of breakfast entrees. As a breakfast fanatic, I was immediately interested to check them out. Upon arrival, I realized how much the interior has changed since I was last inside (back when it was a Pizza Hut years ago). The owners have redone the space into something clean, spacious, comfortable, and simple. The service was quick to get my bride and I seated and were swift with the coffee and water. Perusing the menu, it was apparent Hartura would have to be experienced multiple times. They have a lot of great breakfasts to choose from, and all at a reasonable price. For today's visit, I chose my personal favorite, the Egg's Benedict. And I'm happy to report that Hartura NAILED it. Breakfast was delicious and hit the spot.
