YELP! I tried to be a blessing and the cashier made it a curse. I discreetly gathered the tabs for my table and let the cashier know what I was doing; however, prior to, I tallied the bills twice. The cashier asked if I wanted to place a tip on my card, and I declined. When I received the none itemized receipt, it was $12.79 more, than my tally. I requested an itemized bill and received one you could barely see because the numbers were faded. I asked the cashier to check my numbers against the bill. When doing so, she still couldn't justify the difference after taxes, and 3.5% card fee. Also, shw wasn't sure if taxes were 7.5% either, but after adding it all in, she took my numbers and began refunding me in cash, which isn't the principal or was it okay. I left without understanding why, and with a clear itemized receipt. Folks, PLEASE START USING CASH. Merchants are taking advantage of us by charging 3.5% on top of taxes, not mention tips. The monthly fees they are charged for using a credit card machine very low, so imagine the incentives they gain, on top of increasing cost. The short of the story. She tried overcharging me hoping I wouldn't notice, and then said, God bless you!‍ And our table of six still left a $20 tip. God don't like ugly. read more

Passing through it may not look like much but if you decide to stop by you'll be pleasantly surprised with good home cooked food you didn't have to cook at home. If you're a fan of southern style food, this is the place for you. The wait staff is always friendly and super sweet. On Sunday's you will meet a crowd after church and during lunch time during the week. Highly recommend the chicken salad, fried chicken, livers, hamburger gravy, garlic chicken, pork chops, catfish, club sandwich, and peach cobbler. Sorry but place has never been good to me. Sort of reminds me of those cheap microwaveable dinners they put on a plate. If you think this is "country" cooking you ain't from around here. Arrived for a Friday lunch around 1 pm. My guest and I seated ourselves and waited for a server to attend to us. After several minutes one server spoke to another one who came to the table with menus. My guest had the Friday lunch special - stewed beef and vegetables over rice. I ordered the hamburger steak with mac and cheese and banana pudding as my sides. Food was delivered to the table in a reasonable time. Ample portions for both of us. Hamburger steak was bland, lacked seasoning. Banana pudding was ok, but I've had better. I'm happy for those that enjoy the place and have given it higher ratings, but it didn't impress me. read more

This place was definitely a diamond in the rough. Very nice and attentive southern staff. The food came out fast but this was not fast food. All the ingredients tasted very fresh and homemade. Let me first start off to say I have been coming here for a while now and noticed a decline in food quality and service. Three co-workers and I stopped in for lunch, friendly staff and no wait time for seating. There were about 5 tables full (2-6 people per table) when we arrived and already eating when we got there. We ordered are food and waited 45 minutes for 1 out of 4 meals. Everyone else who came in after us, about another 6 tables worth of people, ate and left. Fed up with waiting we confront the hostess. The answer we received is "I don't know why this is taking so long", also stating that two of the four meals were ready and the other two haven't been started on yet. We ended up leaving after getting the 1 meal to go getting back to work late, we work 5 minutes down the road... No discount for the late meal and the hostess had the nerve to ask for a tip. After not taking care of our table I declined to give a tip. I feel like this puts the final nail in the coffin for going here for me and my co-workers. read more

The restaurant is what you expect from a small town cafe. Simple but clean. The wait staff was very attentive. The french fries were good but the chicken sandwich was so dry that I couldn't get it down. It also came with mayo -- I specifically said no mayo. If you've followed my reviews, you know I don't give 5-stars easily. This place is the best home-style southern cooking joint I've been to in the triangle. I stop in for lunch whenever I'm in the area. Today the collard greens melted in my mouth perfectly seasoned. The hush puppies were piping hot and the pork chop just right. I've been here a lot over the years and whatever I order on the menu (and they have a wide variety) has been very good!! I just wish they were closer to Raleigh ... I'd come more often!! Don't try calling in an order. They take the phone off the hook!! We cannot eat inside due to an illness and we depend on calling in our order. This has happened multiple times. If you don't want to take call in orders at least have the courtesy to put a message on your phone instead. read more

Very reasonably priced country cooking. I almost always get the grilled catfish (it has cajun seasoning) plate. I have also ordered the steak & gravy and chicken livers. The Mac and cheese is great, as are the fried okra, green beans, mashed potatoes, and every other item I have ordered. Sometimes the hush puppies are a little overcooked for my taste.
