Okay y'all. Wrapping up my summer sojourne. Took family out to brunch. This was a perfect choice. The decor evinces a real farmhouse environment, ie: rustically charming. Very welcoming atmosphere. When you come in you're instructed to peruse the menu and order/pay at the register. Or you can seat yourself first, gather your utensils, and order from the menu more leisurely. I chose the latter option. Totally worth careful consideration of the menu IMO. I chose the Eye Opener Breakfast with extra side of grits, sausage and home fries. My family ordered the Salmon Smorrebord and the BLT&E on Crossant. Absolutely delectable. I'm definitely a fan and look forward to my next occasion to visit. read more

I stopped in for lunch and was honestly impressed. The space is open, warm, and has that modern farmhouse vibe that makes you want to sit and stay awhile. The staff was friendly, welcoming, and moved with purpose--no one was just standing around. I ordered the herb-crusted salmon mesa bowl and it did not disappoint. The salmon was seasoned well with a perfect sear, and the sides actually felt fresh and intentional, not like fillers. Loved the kale, the sweet potatoes, and that corn was shockingly good. The green sauce on the side added the right kick and pulled everything together. I love the food and atmosphere. Plenty of outdoor seating and I'm obsessed with their Chicago dogs. I do wish that there was a less crowded ordering space. We went here on a perfect mid 70's day...you know, one of those days you'll remember with nostalgia. The cafe was memorable and reminded me of a contemporary lake house cabin in the mountains. When you walk in, there's a bar area to order from. Quite impressively, this is also the space where they cook the food and make the drinks and I literally cannot fathom how they do it in such a limited space. However, they do a brilliant job! The food was very fresh and very tasty. I got something from the "features" on the menu (rotational items). My choice was the duck duck grits. DELICIOUS. And what a steal at $13! I also took a bite of my friend's Philly cheesesteak and that was great as well. Smoothies are also wonderful. I forgot to mention, it was quite busy when we got to the place. We ended up waiting around 20 minutes but it was worth it; Not only because the food was delicious, but also because the employees were great...and the food came out surprisingly fast! I highly recommend coming here on a nice day, soaking up the sun, and enjoying a wonderful brunch with friends. We'll definitely be back! read more

We went to Farmhouse Cafe last week and loved it! What a cute spot tucked in a lovely neighborhood with a pond. We went after work on a weekday with our little girl for a quick and spontaneous adventure. They have a huge field for a picnic or just to relax and for kids to run and play without getting in the way of others dining and relaxing inside/outside. Fire pits and cozy chairs included! They also often have events such as live music, which we can't wait to go back for. We tried a red and white wine and ordered the Caprese Melt with pasta salad to share. It was yummy and very fresh! Their menu is pretty extensive but not too busy, which is nice. I do wish they had more/different wine options, but understand at a smaller place (well, smaller menu) they might not. You can order and pay at the counter and they let you know when it's ready. Also, the people working there were incredibly kind; all of them! The place is truly adorable and cozy, inside and out. I enjoyed a nice Father's Day lunch at the Farmhouse Cafe with my wife and mother-in-law. This place always has a good energy vide with good music, decent food, and fair prices. The staff is always courteous, the food is way above average, and you can feel why there is always a crowd here. Stopped here for sunday brunch and was not disappointed! We got there around noon, before the lunch rush came in. All the inside tables were taken but they had plenty of outside seating. We originally sat outside but there were so many flies swarming our food immediately, so we went back inside for a table. We ordered the breakfast tacos and kitchen sink bagel sandwich. Eeee-yuck!! I ordered the dipster and it was pretty disgusting. The presentation itself was nauseating. The meat had a jelly like consistency. The cheese was thick and just laid on the sandwich. First and last visit for sure... We met friends for a nice lunch. Definitely not the ambience we were expecting from the ratings and pictures posted online. Inside looks more like a food court at the airport with VERY limited seating. Seating isn't private or comfortable. It didn't help there were vents on the floor blowing cold air with no where else to sit. Food was average and a bit expensive for self service. Plenty of outside seating for large gatherings. Health ratings fluctuate so don't believe the current rating online. It's not that good. read more

My mom and I visited this cafe for Sunday brunch and really enjoyed it. You order at the counter then find a place to sit inside or outside. I recommend outside for the view of the lake. It was the NC Peach French Toast with a Trophy Cloud Surfer for me and the Farmhouse Benedict with a cup of cheese grits and a Fullsteam Paycheck Pilsner for my mom. Drove past and had to stop by in this incredible building. Truly a super cool ambiance and environment with plenty of seating available indoors and outside. The atmosphere at Farmhouse Café in Wendell is really nice, but the food felt more like quick hotel café fare with reheated options. We ordered two turkey croissant sandwiches with grits and home fries. The turkey tasted a little off, though the croissants themselves were perfectly baked. Honestly, I would've been just as happy with a plain croissant and jelly. The service at the register was amazing. The outdoor seating area could use some attention--the tables were wobbly and in need of a good cleaning. I was disappointed with my meal at Farmhouse Cafe. It is a cute cafe with indoor and outdoor seating. The service was friendly but the meal was not good. I had the roast beef smorrebord. I was told that it was an open faced sandwich on dense bread I'd need a fork and a knife to eat. I hate onions so did order it without but as you can see in the photo there are fried onions on it. I should have sent it back but it took so long to get as it was. People that came in after me were served before I was. Had I known the bread was going to be hard as a rock I wouldn't have ordered it. I'm not sure if it was stale or overcooked but that bread would have broken teeth. I wouldn't return although the food others ordered looked good as mine wasn't and most of it ended up in the trash. read more

I want to get my complaint about the Farmhouse Cafe out of the way right up front. You have to stand in line to order your food, set your own table, pick up the food when it is ready and clear your own table. This is not my idea of "Good Eats." BUT - the diverse menu and really good food keeps me coming back. The multiple outside dining options are also a big plus - especially when the weather cooperates. The week-end Brunch is a true delight. My favorite is the Three Little Pigs Grits Bowl ($13). The generous portion of Stone Ground Cheesy Grits is smothered with Pulled Pork, Country Ham, Bacon, Pub Sauce and a Scrambled Egg. The dish is as filling as it is delicious. A definite winner. We also enjoyed the Breakfast Burrito ($8). The flavorful Flour Tortilla Wrap is crammed full of Scrambled Eggs, Bacon, Tomatoes, Cheese and Arugula. Another satisfying winner. The Roast Beef Smørrebrød ($11) is a superstar. This unique combination of tender, thinly sliced Roast Beef, Pesto, Smoked Gouda, Caramelized Onions, Roasted Tomatoes and Balsamic Glaze was piled high - very high - on a thick slice of Nordic Farmer's Bread. It is hard to describe all the flavors, but this open faced sandwich is truly outstanding. The Smørrebrød also comes in a Salmon version for the same price. We were not so impressed with the Sweet Potato Quinoa Stir Fry ($14). This dish combines Red Peppers, Arugula, Asparagus, Carrots, Green Tomato Relish and Thai Chili Sauce. I am always searching for new and innovative cuisine, and I applaud Chef Cowden for his many contributions to dining adventures; but I simply did not like this Stir Fry. The texture was off and the flavors did not work for me. For an ultimate comfort sandwich, I recommend the Cuban ($10 with one side). The toasted Cuban-style Hoagy Roll is stuffed with savory tender Pulled Pork, Thin-sliced Ham, gooey melty Swiss Cheese, Dill Pickle slice and a slightly sweet Mustard Sauce. The Tomato Cucumber Side was fresh, crisp, nicely chilled and seasoned with a zesty Vinaigrette Dressing. read more

I live nowhere near the area but if I did, I know I'd be at Farmhouse Cafe often! A Yaymaker Plant Night brought me here the first time and immediately fell for its charm. Yes, it's a little cafe that's pretty much meant for the community that it's attached to but they are very welcoming here. This day I arrived at peak lunch time but their menu is rather simple so I got my food fairly quickly. I ordered the Salami Smørrebrød and it was so good! It was just enough, a light lunch. Very fresh ingredients and even presented so pretty! They serve up sandwiches and salads as well as the Smørrebrød's but I was so intrigued by them; I want to try them all. They serve iced tea, assorted canned beverages, coffee drinks and beer and wine! For me what really makes this place so appealing is it's outdoor spaces. There are a lot of outdoor tables and it just feels so free and open. There's a nice pond with water feature and a little walkable area as well. The service was also of note. I absolutely expected for it to take quite awhile - small place, I'm here on a Thursday afternoon. But it was impeccable. I had my 7 year old niece with me and one of my friends had her two little nieces so we had our hands full. The nice lady that took my order saw me come back in later and asked what she could do for me. And she called me by name! I don't know that I'd ever make it out here for breakfast but the menu looks great! Served until 11am daily. read more

I wanted to love this place and while it only gets 3 stars today I'm going to still give it another chance. Reasons to love it: It's a beautiful spot in an area that's not overcrowded. There is a lot of room inside for seating Staff is friendly and service is fast. The menu is beautiful with a lot of selection. Why it got 3 stars: As great as the menu looked and sounded we were pretty disappointed in the food. The avocado toast lacked major flavor and could have been seasoned and needed a drizzle of something other than olive oil, maybe a balsamic glaze? The plus were the blueberries were huge and fresh. The toast was way under toasted and soggy. I have to give it a 2 out of 5 rating. The biscuit sandwich was also very bland and dry. It could not be enjoyed as a sandwich at all because it fell apart and something that dry needs more than a slice of cheese. There again was no sauce and not sure the biscuit was even buttered. My partner rated it a 2 on a scale of 1-5. We will give the place another chance but right now, only 3 stars. read more
