It was SO aesthetically BEAUTIFUL inside, and so was the food! The tablewear was also very funky, we had a good laugh! Mom and I thoroughly enjoyed our experience! Food was hot and delicious; we shared the following dishes: 1. Signature Roasted White King Pigeon - it was very juicy and tasty 2. Dim Sum Platter with 5 different items - each item was very unique! 3. Beetroot Shrimp Dumplings - these pink dumplings with gold edges are SO PRETTY. I wish we could order more! This is one place I would highly recommend to you all, especially instagrammers! There are more than one Social Place; this particular one is in Tsuen Wan, Hong Kong. Food was disgusting and overpriced, no decoration whatsoever, uncomfortable seating, bad location, etc. My mom and I tried maybe 3 or 4 bites of the dim sum and decided we would no longer order anymore even though we were not full yet. There are so many restaurants out there even within the shopping plaza, why stuff ourselves with bad dim sum!? We only have a limited capacity for calorie intake as women who still want to fit in the clothes we bought! Anyhow, how bad you might ask. Honestly, dim sum is not hard to screw up since most things are deep fried, and deep fried food is rarely bad (taste-wise, health-wise is another story). Yet, they skillfully managed to screw up deep-fried food! It was greasy and was lack of flavor. The steamed dim sum either had a wrapping that was too thick or was too think that it would fall apart when you tried to pick up with your chopsticks. I was going there hopeful, I remember, as I had been craving for dim sum for a while. After trying about 3 types of dim sum that was ordered by other people at the table, I didn't even want to order my own. I tried one of each type of dim sum and almost everything was just disappointing. The only thing that was decent enough to eat was the deep-fried donut wrapped in rice paper 炸兩. Service was actually okay, for HK standard. They were quite attentive to clear out the dishes on the table and were helpful to bring us anything we needed. The restaurant was not easy to find. First of all, the shopping plaza has a weird layout where there are many blind corners and intersections like a maze. Come on, CRC, you gotta stop building bad architecture! The restaurant was located deep into one end of the shopping plaza. After 3 left turns and 4 right turns, maybe you can find it. The decor and type of booth seating was similar to the HK fast food restaurants. You feel like you're eating at a HK style fast food but you're charged prices like you're dining in a Maxim's restaurant. My mom whispered in my ear 1/5 into our meal, "Daughter, this place sucks. Terrible and expensive. Never coming back." LOL! I feel the same way about this place, mom.

The lunch menu is very extensive, with many other dishes besides the standard dim sum fares. We ordered their bak kut teh 肉骨茶 because it was such a good deal, and the broth was flavorful with plenty of herbs and spices. The hot pot rice was pretty good too. Overall, fancy dining it is not, but a good option for neighborhood dim sum, lunch and dinner. I admit I like the cute fisherman logo and calligraphy, he he.

So many times that I have been the one who woke up early and get a table at a Chinese restaurant to yum cha with my family. It has got to be my favorite thing to do on my holiday. Though nowadays you can easily get your hands on dim sum at a supermarket where you can buy the frozen ones and microwave them. However, the fact that they are not steamed but microwaved certainly does not impress me as much. Yet, Tong Kee Dim Sum definitely has satisfied the needs for the masses. Efficiency, freshly steamed and cheap. Most dim sums here are cooked on that day and during peak hour, though lines can be quite long, it still does not take too much time for you to get your order. For me, I love the Pork and Quail's Egg dumplings because I do not see that that often else where and they are insanely cheap! If dim sum does not fill you up, I am sure the buns can. They have a great variety of buns like pork buns, glutinous rice rolls and egg custard, etc. Though this place only does take-away and that definitely takes away the essence of yum cha where people can get together and enjoy the food, it certainly does not disappoint those who are just craving for a bite or two.

Some of the great stuff I tried included the chicken feet, fish head soup, deep fried rolls with lobster bisque, shrimp and crab meat dumplings and steamed mushroom rice noodles. The chicken feet were served in a clay pot of marinade and were not over cooked at all! The fish head herbal soup was a surprise on a dim sum menu, but man the fish head was so good and the soup was the perfect Chinese natural remedy for a humid day! The surprise came when they served the deep fried shrimp roll with a soup covered in pastry. It's lobster bisque! I honestly don't know if it's supposed to be a dip or soup but I ate it as a soup. Anyway, that was delicious! Most dim sums we ordered were of good quality. AVOID the shrimp dumpling. The skin fell apart and the inside was dry. Service was quick and polite enough. Prices are about HKD $100/ head.

They gave us a booklet along with the paper to fill out, and most of the dim sum was the classic dim sum that I'm accustomed to. Their chiu chou fun gor was alright for me. They did put a good amount of peanuts in here but the exterior was a bit heavier on the dough side. Their siu mai and har gow were pretty good. Their cheung fun wasn't the silky light type, so I was just alright with it. Their Chicken with Sticky Rice wraped in Lotus Leaf was huge though, way bigger than those in Los Angeles. Their fresh mango custard roll was my highlight though, as they had chunks of mango in the middle and it was sweet. Would try this again. I think the one other aspect of this place is the interior is really clean, and they have a decent amount of tables inside. Service is a bit more attentive as the area isn't as large.
