My 2nd meal in HK included an authentic dim sum place and boy was I delighted to be here! We had a local with us who did all the ordering, and the ordering process itself was one of the most efficient ones I saw. We got a bunch of dishes: Beef rice roll: translucent, soft, and delicious! Located in the Causeway Bay area. We chose Dim Dim Sum since it was near our hotel. You order on a form with English descriptions. The Dim Sum is steamed to order. We ordered some classic items like Shu Mai and others we don't see in the Dim Sum establishments at home (Portland, Oregon) - Bean Curd in Tomato sauce and Sponge Cake with Salted Egg (my favorite) All the items were very high quality and delicious . I've eaten here several times and it's always been delicious. Once I caught the special $10 dollar menu, which was amazing. A friend and I tried 9 of the 10 things between the two of us! Crispy fried wontons, lo bak go, ha gao, siu mai, deep fried shrimp dumplings, steamed cheung fun, teriyaki eggplant, and more. It was all tasty. We drank beer too and were so stuffed! Returning for the regularly priced menu is less exciting from a financial standpoint, but still an incredibly good deal. Things tend to be priced around $20 per dish, so three people can eat their fill for $60-ish, per person. Other delicious standouts, aside from the teriyaki eggplant, are crispy rice rolls, stuffed peppers, and stuffed bean curd wraps. The glutinous rice in lotus leaf, chiu chow dumplings, preserved egg congee, and bbq pork buns are good too, though not standouts to me. Service is average. So is decor. One annoying thing is that they charge for tea, but with a meal so well-priced, who's complaining? (Well me, a little, but hey...) Definitely worth trying once. Nothing like your regular dim sum big restaurants in Hong Kong. It seems like these small dim sum shops with the fast food "cha chan teng" style are getting more popular. I'm not really a hip or trendy person, but practical, so if the food is good, I don't care if it's hip or not. I listened to my friend who has a good taste for food and came here to check it out. The dim sum quality varied. Some were outstanding, some were good, others were just average. MUST TRY: stuffed eggplant and the dim sum of the shop ---- Chicken and fish maw!!! It's what the Cantonese call "cotton chicken". Check out my photo. I have never seen a piece of fish maw THAT BIG in a dim sum. I let my mom try it and she's like where the hell did you buy this? Get more for me and your dad next time! So the other day I went to buy take-out and I placed 3 orders of the same dim sum so no one needs to fight, haha. The stuffed eggplant was excellent! It was addicting I tell ya. If the restaurant looks crowded when you walk in, don't sweat, cos they have extra seating upstairs! I didn't even see the stairs until the hostess showed me... Came to HK for a conference so had a few places on my 'To-Eat' List and this was one of them since it was near our hotel. Our group of 4 decided to go all out and try as many different dishes as possible but at the same time, order the classics like Ha Gao(Shrimp Dumpling), Siu Mei(pork and shrimp dumpling), and of course Phoenix Claws(chicken feet). This place was recommended by the girl working check-in at our hostel, who told us it was a famous dim sum spot. I love me some dim sum, so my friends and I headed there. We were lucky to get seated immediately, and they have an English menu available. We ordered a wide selection, but my favorite was the soup dumplings and, of course, the pig custard buns. How can you not love them? They're so damn cute I almost didn't eat it. Almost. I did. It was delicious. Why 3 stars? Our food took a lot longer than some other places we went. And our waitress messed up; she gave us an item the table next to us ordered, and vice versa. We flagged her down and tried our best to tell her, and she shrugged and walked away. When the table next to us (who spoke Chinese) did the same thing, she brought them their dish. Another guy (waiter? Manager? Not sure) came and looked at our menu and was talking to our waitress. There's a language barrier for sure. But it seemed very likely that our waitress knew she screwed up, and fixed the issue for the table that spoke Chinese, but not ours. Went for brunch the other day. It must have been a good time because we were sat right away. The 'menu' they gave us was a binder with photos and names of some of the food. There also the reg menu which they also gave, that has Chinese and engulfs names of the dishes. The reg menu has check boxes that you check off for the things that you want and for how many. When you're done you have to flag down one of the employees to take your choices and then out comes your dim sum. take a little while and it wasn't too busy but once it started coming it came out fast. We order Cheung Fun with pork, Cheung Fun with mushrooms and truffles, har gau, congee, pepper tripe, seafood stuffed eggplant, & sui mai. Both Cheung fun were good. The sauce had a good balance between sweet and salty. The truffle was my fav though. But anything with truffles usually is. The har gau and sui mai were good. They seemed a little better then home, but I'm not too sure why. The congee was yummy. It had a good pieces of meat and egg. And I liked the crunchy won tons that came with it as a topper. The tripe was very meaty. Which is something I'm not use to with tripe. It was very good this way. I also likes the squash that came with it. Lastly my favorite dish of the day was the seafood stuffed eggplant. They came three to a plate & covered in a reduced soy sauce. The seafood I was a mix of crab and shrimp. It had a nice squishy texture to the eggplant and firm texture from the seafood top. The restaurant is a bit small, seems clean enough, and service wasn't the worst lol but definitely what you'd expect in a Chinese restaurant. Dimdimsum is a newer chain that got prominence quickly in the past couple years. I think someone saw the popularity of Tim Ho Wan and thought, hey we can do that too! Thus a new casual dim sum chain is born. The tables here are diner-casual, but not suited for big groups. 4-6 people is probably the most you should attempt. The dim sum came rather fast and piping hot, and the quality is good for the price you pay. Service is nonexistent but is it really a surprise at this point? They do have tourist menus, as the waiter gave one to the mister as soon as we sat down. But we didn't need one because there's me, the local who tagged along, just ordering all my usuals. However, if you don't know Cantonese, and are just trying to find a casual dim sum place to sit at, this will work out for you. read more

Delicious and cheap! Arrived at 10am and got the last table. It gets busy fast especially closer to lunch time. They do have another level of seating upstairs. They have English menus if you ask. Everything we ordered was super good and we eat dim sum regularly. They make suggestions on the menu as a "must try." Bathrooms aren't the cleanest and there is only one toilet per gender with a shared sink. Try not to use it if you can. Closest MTR station is Causeway Bay. read more

Amazing dim sum dishes but you will not get that experience of people pushing carts and shouting all the things they have in their cart. But no doubt the dim sum will be fresh and delicious! Probably one of the best meal we had here in Hong Kong. Once you walked in, you get a menu where you can check off what you want and within 5-10 minutes the staff would bring out piping hot and steaming bamboo steamers of deliciousness ranging from chicken feet to shrimp dumplings. The selection could be a bit better but it was enough to satisfied our hunger for good dim sum. We spent $828 HKD for a group of 7 and 3 of us are quite the eaters and we could not finish everything. We attempted some of the more exotic dishes but we couldn't stomach it (tripe is not our thing). But if you are into that I am sure it is good. It is a bit out of the way for us as we stay in the Causeway Bay Area and had to take a train and a transfer to get here. Definitely worth the trip, we got here at 1130 am and was seated immediately but it does fill up fast. We had to walk about 10 minutes from the MTR to get here. Would recommend it! read more

Mad, bustling dim sum restaurant. Given its reputation, I thought it might be somewhat 'touristy'. However, it felt authentic to me, both the food and the ambivalent service! Highlights included the pork and shrimp dumplings, crispy wontons and shrimp and shark fin soup. Really enjoyed the curried brisket. Tip: save the custard piggy buns for dessert; they may look too cute to eat but are like a custard-filled soft meringue. Delicious! We stopped in here for lunch as the pineapple bun pictures here on Yelp called my name. The waitstaff was friendly and attentive. They immediately spotted us as tourist and brought us the English menu along with a booklet of a picture menu. We filled out our piece of paper with our order and they immediately picked it up to start preparing it. Our items came out as they were ready. First were the pineapple buns as it was a pastry. I probably would've ordered it after the meal in hindsight but I didn't mind having dessert as my appetizer. The other "fried/baked" items came out next. We had the seafood stuffed eggplant and seafood stuffed hot peppers. I normally don't like eggplant but this was delicious. A little slice of eggplant with seafood placed on top and likely quickly fried just to hold it all together. I didn't try the peppers but my husband said they were very good. He wasn't able to identify what seafood was stuffed in the pepper but he did say that it seemed all seeds had been removed from the pepper so it wasn't overly hot. The crispy rice four roll with shrimp followed. It seemed like a shrimp fried egg roll that was then wrapped in dim sum dough and steamed. My husband enjoyed it so much he later ordered a second serving. The steamed items were the last to come out. The shrimp and pork dumplings with crab roe were good. The BBQ pork buns were okay but we would probably pass if we returned. It's not their specialty. We were pleased with the food, prices were reasonable and we felt the waitstaff appreciated our business. We'd definitely return if in the area again. A few things to note: CASH ONLY, they don't charge you a service fee so be sure to tip and like most other restaurants, tea is 3 HKD per person by default. read more

One of my tests for any restaurant is my reaction when the check comes -- at Dimdimsum I am consistently full, happy and thinking "That was all it cost?!" All of your favorite dim sum standards are here; the har gaw and char siu bao are particularly good. And, of course, the "piggy" custard buns are frickin' adorable even if they are a little sweet for my taste. It's a great place to grab a bite on a weekend afternoon. It's also a fun place to bring visiting out-of-towners, as it is really "accessible" dim sum for those who may not have tried it in the past. This was one of our fav dimsum spots in HK when we visited. You walk in, get seated and can start ordering from the menu on the table. The dishes are brought out quickly and when you're done, you get up and pay at the cashier. Very efficient and quick. The manager in this place called my friend a bad name in Chinese when we asked for a drink thinking 2 whites guys won't understand. However service is mediocre and we received 2 extra dishes (likely meant for the table next to us) that we didn't realise we're not ours until after we were half way done with them. Ugh I really want to give this place 4 stars, but I can't bring myself to do it. So much potential. They have GREAT dim sum, and it's probably the best value dim sum spot in town with not many things over the 30hkd mark. My family of 7 was stuffed for a little over 100 usd, which is hard to do in Hong Kong, and the States for that matter. I could talk about how the Shui mai was juicy, and how all the dumplings were perfectly steamed, but you expect good dim sum in hk. What really bothered me was how slow service was. It took about half an hour for our initial order to come out, and another 20+ minutes for the additional stuff to come out. The ladies serving didn't seem to care when we asked and forgot to bring hot sauce 3x, never got it. I suggest they hire an additional server to better suit the needs of the restaurant. Not sure if it was only two for the upstairs and downstairs, but having a dedicated cashier, and 3 servers would've made a big difference. Anyway, all the food was good. Highlights being the truffle xlb, piggy egg custard bun, pork buns, and truffle mushroom Chong fan. read more

The shrimp and pork dumplings were also stuck to one another. The crab roe looked more like sprinkles. It is a tiny restaurant where diners share tables. It is charming but not incredible food.
