    Steamed spareribs

Exactly what I needed. Delicious, fresh, hot, tasty AND reasonably priced. Had the BBQ pork rice rolls, steamed spareribs with taro, ha gow, siu mai, & soy sauce noodles. Definitely would return and recommend.

My poor piggies, looks like they had a fight in the steamer.

We were thinking of visiting Tim Ho Wan, of the Michelin fame, when I came across this place, Dimdimsum, which received the 2012 Newsweek Foodie Award as one of the 101 best places to eat in the world. Now, that's a pretty impressive title, so we decided to try this place instead. The shop is in a rather out-of-the-way location. It's smallish, but clean enough with a traditional Chinese decor. The dim sum list isn't extensive but enough to order. When the food came, we were somewhat disappointed. What? 101 best place? It won't even make it to 1001 in the world! I don't even think it makes my 101 personal list. Okay, I will say the flavor was not bad, but then it nothing spectacular. Especially not in this city with a million choices for dim sum. Maybe that award set our expectation too high. I was especially disappointed with the lava pig bun (a pig shaped bun with lava egg custard inside). My poor piggies must have gone through a gang fight in the bamboo steamer, what with faces cracked and brain spilling out. I can't even snap a nice pic of them. For me, the presentation of dim sum is important, and good chefs spend a lot of time perfecting the skills to twist and shape the dough of a dumpling or bun. This really shows that the chefs are not taking care or pride in their products. 3.5 stars, down to 3 for the presentation.

When in Hong Kong you have to get dim sum. There's a Tim Ho Wan near me and many other local dim sum places in Taipei so I wanted to try something new. That's how I found Dim Dim Sum. This place is small, about the size of my living room, but they pack the people in with fast service. I showed up around 2pm and was quickly seated and given a menu to check off what I wanted. There was a carafe of tea ($4HK mandatory for each person) and you can get warm/hot water. The staff is efficient and perfunctory. If you need something, ask. They are not there to anticipate your needs, which is not for everyone but it's classic Chinese style. I ordered the shrimp dumplings, braised vegetables, steamed pork ribs, steamed BBQ pork buns, Malay cake, shrimp with eggplant and seafood in pan fried chili. I clearly over ordered and the people around me smirked as more dishes kept coming out. This was more than enough for two and I ended up eating it for dinner too. The shrimp dumplings were good, better than standard. The steamed pork spare ribs were delicious, but took the longest to come out. I thought they had forgotten them. The shrimp with eggplant was fantastic. The seafood stuffed chili was good too but hard to bite through because the skin was left on. Then steamed BBQ pork buns had lots of filling and the Malay cake was not too sweet. The only let down and thing I didn't finish were the vegetables. I believe they were baby gailan but they had no seasoning or sauce on them. I'm used to it being served with oyster sauce drizzled on top. My total bill came to $180HK which was about cheap for Hong Kong and what I expected to pay for so much food at an above standard level. Cash only, no cards but they do have an English menu. There's a tiny bathroom and the air conditioning is adequate. None of the staff spoke English, that I could tell, but they did speak Mandarin to me and that got me through it.

You go to Hong Kong specifically for these types of places - Dimsum houses that serve authentic dishes! The place is OK, the location is a few meters or a few minutes walk from the subway station, but it's worth it. We came here for dinner and tried a lot of dishes (maybe more than we should have had) because there's so many dishes you would be curious to try. Service is great, food comes fast but newly cooked. The soup dumplings with black truffle was a winner and we couldn't settle for just one. Overall, you don't come here for a special occasion. You come here for an authentic HK dining experience.

One of the best dimsum places in HongKong. They are definitely unique because their dimsums are exactly what their names say. For example, their pineapple bun literally has pineapples in it. Normally there are no pineapples in pineapple buns. Their shrimp dumplings are the best by far. The dumpling skin had great flavor and chewiness and was filled up with lots of shrimp. We got the super early because I would expect long lines since they are well known, quite small and a touristy spot visited by Anthony Bourdain and some other well-known chefs/ food critics. Luckily there was no line for us when we got there.

Piggy custard buns. Cute and yummy.

Aside from the possible sketchy cleanliness of this place (we saw one table cleaning their utensils with hot tea; oops, we forgot to do this), this place serves awesome dimsum. Makes me cry on the inside because I can never get this kind of dim sum in Houston. Our favorites include siu mai (pork dumpling), ha gao (shrimp dumpling), piggy custard buns (so cute too!), pineapple buns, pan seared turnip cakes, and steamed beef balls. All of them came out piping hot, which was great. This place does get packed quickly on weekends. So come slightly before they open at 10 am. If you can't do this, then just come on a weekday when it's less crowded. Also, if you're like us and you can't read their Chinese menu, don't be shy and ask for an English menu. So easy. When I come back to Hong Kong, I'll definitely swing by here to get my legit dim sum fix.

Dimsum is a big part of my Sundays. I like to visit different places and try all the dishes old and new. Dimdimsum is a good solid choice any day. Advertised to be one of the 101 best places to eat, Dimdimsum is a place that offers only dim sum. Dim sum in the morning, afternoon, and evening. I love the idea of that because that means I don't have to wake up before noon to make sure I get my Ha Gow fix. That itself is a great selling point. The wait isn't too bad during peak times. Unless you're a large party, you can expect no more than 15-20 minutes ok a busy sunday morning. If you're like me, a night owl, you can benefit by coming a bit later in the afternoon. There is almost never a wait if you come here after 2pm. Another great thing about going in the later times are the discounts! They offer 30% off dim sum when you order between 2-5pm Monday-Fridays. The decor of this place is pretty plain. You see oversized bird cages over lights to give you that old school Hong Kong feel, but thats about it. The tables are not the cleanest. It gets a quick wipe down before the staff throw a disposable place mat over it with your chopsticks and a bowl. Be sure to bring your own tissues when you come because they don't offer any for free. The food is "made to order" which should actually be "steamed to order." I would believe it more if they said all the dim sum is pre-made ready to be steamed. Taste is pretty on point. The flavors are there and is always consistent. Good, but not great. Just a-ok for me. =)

Dim sum just as good as Tim ho wan but no wait at all! I stumbled into dim dim sum after looking for a restaurant in the area and realizing I was craving some shrimp dumplings. I didn't try any other items so I can't comment on them, but the shrimp dumplings were amazing. The skin was translucent and soft. The shrimp inside also tasted delicious. They have an English menu so you don't have to worry about ordering in a different language (if you don't speak Cantonese). The workers were also so friendly. If you happen to be in the area, check them out! You won't regret it :)

I've been a little busy moving into this new neighbourhood so my dining experiences have mostly been "whatever is in the fridge, I eat". But now that I've settled into Jordan, I knew I had to check out Dim Dim Sum for a weekend yum cha. Posters plastered all over advertising the eatery as one of the best dim sum spots in town. Not sure if Anthony Bourdain actually went to THIS branch, as there are a few more scattered around HK. One qualm I had was with the pineapple buns. The HK pineapple bun I know and love harms no actual pineapples in the making of the bun. This particular bun had a little pineapple sliced surprised inside, which honestly put me off (I'm not a fan of pineapples). There are also advertising mushroom buns which taste nothing like mushrooms, my friend noted. Mind games aside, we enjoyed the Siu mai, har gao, and eggplant dim sum (I'm not sure what to call it). The Cheong fan was nicely rolled, not too thick. However, the xiao long bao had too much meat, not enough luscious porky soup. Would not order again. This will likely become my go to on a lazy yum cha Sunday, as it is now my local and does dim sum all day errrday. And I'm definitely not complaining.

Dimdimsum dimdimsum specialty shop Dim sum is definitely the hardest meal for me to eat in Hong Kong because of all my food allergies. This restaurant is very popular and serves dim sum all day long. I've even stopped here as late as 10:30pm to grab a quick meal to go after playing volleyball. I always order their sticky rice which is enough to fill me up. I also like their pineapple buns which I will have when I'm cheating on my gluten free intolerance. They're not traditional, but their freshly baked mini buns are served hot with real pineapple custard on the inside. My husband like to eat various dishes here including the deep fried dumplings with wasabi filling, and the pork dumplings with crab roe. I do have to say that their menu options look pretty tasty and they cook the food fresh throughout the day. This restaurant was given a 2012 Newsweek Foodie Award as one of the 101 best places to eat around the world. This is pretty impressive considering it's located in a small neighborhood on the Kowloon side in Hong Kong. If you're inHong Kong, this is a great place to stop for a mix of traditional and modern dim sum.

Thoroughly Great Dim Sum that even the locals que and order. I had several dishes here and they didn't break the bank. I don't know how they do fried soft tofu but it comes out thoroughly crispy outside and soft inside the compliment to the pork dishes. But save your appetite for the shrimp dishes. Perfectly seasoned and cooked. Extremely flavorful and clean.

There was about 30min wait when we came on a Sunday morning but definitely worth the wait! Loved their pineapple buns (with pineapple filling) the most. The rest of the dim sum items were all good, except the truffle rice noodle roll, which was kind of bland.

Wonton, steamed pork and chickens feet.

Excellent selection, very tasty, friendly and efficient service. Don't be put off by the location as this place is a little gem, air conditioning is a definite plus. We left very well fed for 10€pp.

Getting to try it in Hong Kong, the home of Dimsum, I thought this was going to be a 10/10. Yeah, not quite. The wrapping of each dishes were thicker than most places, so that was already offputting. That plus the taste of the fillings inside the xiao long baos, it's like you eat one and you already feel fed up and over it. And then there was no Har Gow in the menu, one of the most essential in a dimsum restaurant... Price was also much more expensive than your typical dimsum places in Hong Kong, and then some outrageous charges like $12 for tea per person, when it's literally one teapot at a table... and adding an additional 10% if you want to take the dishes to go if you don't finish... Yeah, this is a hard no. The only reason why I'm even giving it a two star rating is because customer service was spectacular and the tea was pretty tasty.

We are less adventurous than some and, without guidance, stuck to ingredients of some familiarity. Rather than bringing all at once, there was a measured pace for delivery to our table. Sportful Garden (what kind of a name is that?) does a pretty good job, creating new dishes as well as refreshing the staples, like the super long spring rolls. Situated at the very top of the isquare mall in TST, it's a convenient location both for Kowloon and HK siders. The restaurant itself is a beautifully bright space with amazing panoramic views. It's quite modern/upscale and would be a good place to go for work lunches etc but you won't get any nasty looks rocking up in shorts/tshirts etc... (i went there in gym gear). The food...wow. I thought after 30+ years of eating chinese food i'd pretty much seen every iteration of a spring roll. I was mistaken. Granted it's hard to make the case for a spring roll to be the standout dish at yum cha but i've never seen them done like this (pictures attached). Each one is about 20cm long and stuffed with juicy fresh shrimp. I have it on good authority that they are also a massive crowd pleaser for kids too. Other than that, every dish was equally superb and fresh. All the usual suspects (har gao, siu mai, lo bak gou, char siu sou) were top notch; fresh, juicy, thin skins. The lo mai gai was another standout - not the usual stodgy, dense, overly sticky lump; rather it was surprisingly light and the meat didn't taste at all congealed, with just enough glutinous-ness to make the rice sit neatly. And the crispy pork cubes...oh the crispy pork cubes. I'd been craving these for over a year since the only offerings to be found in NY are better described as lumps of soggy fat with a micro film of crispy skin and occasionally a bit of pork. All in all an amazing feed. Adding it to the list of regular places to hit in HK.
