Beggars Chicken before the casing was broken

Great beggars chicken Great food Great show in making noodles One of my staple restaurants when in Hong Kong

    1/2 serving of Peking Duck

My aunt took me here for dinner. I really had no expectations walking in, but I was surprised at how busy the restaurant was. It shouldn't really be that big of a surprise though, based on its location in Tsim Sha Tsui and its proximity to Harbour City. Regardless of being a tourist trap or not, Peking Garden delivers on the Peking Duck. I don't claim to be an expert connoisseur of the dish, but i've had my fair share of Peking Duck over my lifetime and the duck here is some of the best i've ever had. A problem with other restaurants serving Peking Duck is when the meat ends up being too dry. Peking Garden does not have that problem. The duck is succulent and juicy, while the skin remains crispy with a perfect balance of sweet and salty. Their hoisin sauce was also the perfect complement to the fatty duck. It had a good viscosity that made for easy spreading and the right amount of sweetness that did not mask, but instead enhanced the duck flavor. We also ordered a jellyfish dish that was good. The strange thing was that it was accompanied with mustard instead of the more traditional vinegar, but it still worked. The service was just okay, as it took awhile for us to get served and also to get the bill. However my aunt and I were appreciative of the waiter who took our order. He convinced us not to over-order and to stick with just two dishes. We ended up with leftovers, so that was good advice. Overall a great restaurant for Peking Duck, conveniently located in TST.

    Noodle Pulling!

Peking Garden was highly recommended to me by a family friend for dinner, as she had said this is definitely a MUST TRY when dining in Hong Kong. Definitely worth booking a reservation in advance! Apparently Peking Garden also has been known for hosting several wedding banquets, plus the really beautiful background overlooking the Victoria Harbour. The interior is also really beautiful, with mirrored ceilings and the giant amber chandelier upon entering. If you're lucky enough to score seating by the windows at night, you can also catch the Victoria Harbor City nightline and firework display, which is also equally as gorgeous. Noodles- If you order them, they'll hand make the noodles in front of you, so you know they're coming out to you freshly. Really soft and chewy, and the sauce that pairs with it isn't too heavy and is rather light. Really loved their noodles! Also another bonus, if you're with kids they'll slice off a little extra for them right after their noodle pulling is complete so the kids can play with the dough there too! DEFINITELY WORTH GETTING. Peking Duck- A MUST HAVE HERE. Comes with the Peking duck, which is sliced in medallions in front of you. Also served with house made flour tortillas that use the same base as the noodles. Delicious and I'd definitely score these here! Sweet and Sour Fish- The sweet and sour sauce on this was really thick, though it married well with the fish. Another recommend! Sweet and Sour Prawns- Really large prawns, also using the same sweet and sour base that was probably used in the Sweet and Sour Prawns, only there was more heat to it. Another recommend! Watermelon & Lychee Drink- Comes with the watermelon juice and Lychee bits at the bottom. Definitely good drink & a recommend here. Pineapple and Cream Soda Drink- While this was okay I probably wouldn't get this again, solely because my heart was really set on the Watermelon & Lychee drink. It was definitely an interesting combo though, as it was sweet and tart. Green Apple Juice- Slightly bitter from the green apples, it was nice. Again I think I just preferred the watermelon lychee drink more though. Service was prompt and always was very quick and to the point. They'll change your plates after every new dish, so you'll always receive a clean plate after each course. No complaints on any of the service here. Overall, Peking Garden gets a 5 from me. I don't have any complaints, really; as I loved my experience here. The amazing food paired with the gorgeous interior yo match, I'm definitely glad for this recommendation. Definitely worth recommending and I'd definitely come back here again when I return to Hong Kong!

I was told this place was a must try in Hong Kong, if you're visiting for their Peking Duck! I've only had duck in the states so I was more than excited to try their famous Peking duck here! The restaurant was located all the way up on the third floor. The place is big, casual and vibrant. Came here with a group of 9. We were seated next to the big window so we had the panoramic view and the lights of Victoria's Harbor! Always a plus. We ordered the Peking duck and a few other dishes. Somehow, we ended up ordering shark fin soup. Everything was good. I can't rave enough about the Peking duck. Hands down, the best duck I've ever had. So delectable and juicy. Properly cut, the meat perfectly cooked, and the skin nice and crisp. Would highly recommended this place. You won't regret it

    Duck duck duck!

Recently visited HK and this was one place a friend said we had to go for dinner. So plans were made and before a night out in LKF a few of us got together to indulge in the bird. Conveniently located right off the Star Ferry, the venue itself is on the 3rd floor and opens up to a huge space. The place is dressed in expected decor but really... is that what you want to hear about? I think not. The duck. Nearly every table has one. The duck is cooked beautifully and is cut immediately before being delivered to the table. Each morsel was so juicy and crispy... just the way it should be. I could taste my cholesterol going up a point with every few bites. (That's a good flavor by the way ;)) Now the rest of the dishes we ordered were mediocre. Good yes and nothing that would make me give a negative review, but they did not live up to the duck. What dishes am I talking about? Well friend, that would be the sharks fin soup, mapo tofu, and fried rice. Of these dishes, I've had better elsewhere but still good, so don't let that scare you away! I'll definitely be stopping by the next time I'm in HK!

This place was recommended to me by my cousin who celebrated her wedding there. Great food and if you are lucky you'll have a table right next to the windows with a fantastic view on Victoria harbor and HK skyline at night.

Walking in the ground floor entrance, you never would have guessed that there was a semi-fancy restaurant on the third floor.

You would never guess that there would be a huge, decent looking restaurant three floors up if you walk into the building on the ground floor, past all of the cheap looking stores. Although Peking Garden wasn't our first choice, we finally ended up here and were seated right away (only two of us). The place is semi-fancy, with virtually every table ordering duck. Unfortunately, they don't have half orders of the duck, so we ended up ordering (and attempted to eat one) by ourselves. We ordered: Hot and sour soup: decent (you can order the soup by the bowl here). Sizzling rice with seafood: pretty good (always love crispy rice cakes) Sauteed pea shoots: standard, but we wanted some vegetables with our meal Whole duck: this was pretty good. They actually carve it with both skin and meat, so it is only a one course duck meal. Hoisin sauce, green onion, duck meat in a pancake: aren't too many things better than that. However, we were served two plates of duck, and it got repetitive after a while. We took some to go, and it still tasted pretty good the morning after. At 400 HKD, it was decently priced. In total, the meal was around 900 HKD (115 USD). Not bad for the quantity and quality of the food that we got. If you are in this area and are looking for duck, this would be a good place to try.

In Hong Kong this place is known for their famous duck dishes. For me, I like their seafood dishes and other things they sell here. This restaurant is very pricey but worth every dollar.

My cousin and his family took me here for a catch up meal, we have not seen each other for a couple of years. Originally, he wanted to book the restaurant upstairs but it was full and so booked here instead, especially since they had a special 40% off set dinner for 4 persons promotional meal for Hang Seng Credit Card Holders which consisted of seven courses, like a banquet. Starter - Marinated chicken with rice wine sauce accompanied with sea blubber (jellyfish) in Spring Onion Sauce. Very tasty and I love the texture of Sea Blubber which I would imagine what eating rubber bands is like, but tastier! Second course - sauteed prawns in garlic sauce - the large tiger prawns served in a spicy garlic sauce with winter melon were really succulent and fresh. Third course - Braised Bird's Nest Soup with seafood and pumpkin. This was a strange dish, orange in colour. I could not taste the pumpkin or the seafood although there were bits in the soup. Not a fan of bird's nest as it is made from bird's saliva! Fourth course - Steamed Pork Dumplings stuffed with Supreme Soup - which is really xiao long bao - the crème de la crème (or dumpling de la dumpling) of the dumpling world, it is filled to the brim with juicy minced pork and trademark soup. This dish originates from Shanghai. Best eaten while still hot. The skin was a little thick here, but still tasty. Fifth course - Barbecued Peking Duck - The pièce de résistance of this restaurant. Delicious and succulent duck perfectly cooked with crispy skin which we wrapped in thick pancakes with cucumber, spring onion and plum sauce. The duck could be eaten on it's own and it is still tasty. We got two plates full, and what we could not finish, you can ask for it to be boxed up to take home, so nothing is wasted. Sixth course - Braised whole abalone with oyster sauce and Chinese cabbage. A slippery dish, but nothing special in taste here. Final course - Sweeten mashed walnut cream - a hot sweet walnut soup dessert (Hup Tul Woo). It should be rich and creamy and best served hot, but it was none of these, although it nicely rounded off the meal as something sweet. NB: Supposedly, the Chinese believed that walnuts resembles the shape of the brain and, therefore, they are good for nourishing the brain. Walnuts are also associated with longevity, since walnut trees live for hundreds of years.

Ambiance/decor-3 Service-3 Food-3 Strikeouts-0/3 Nothing spectacular about this place. Prime location at harbour city for many years. However the few is quite nice if you get to sit near the tables to look outside at Victoria harbour!! One of the biggest tourist trap dishes is the beggar chicken dish. They let you wack a big ball containing the cooked chicken already, take a photo and put it on a card for you. They also give you a miniature golden hammer to keep. This chicken is really dry and definitely does not taste moist at all. Need to chug tea to make it go down. Aside from that, they are famous for their Peking duck which i found was pretty average and like any other place needed an additional order of wraps for the extras pieces of duck! Nothing else stood out, but nothing was bad either. Overall, I was satisfied with the food selection, but nothing more than a place to stop by for the view.

    Happy boy!

400hkd for a BBQ duck?... Gotta do it. Food was great. Everything was clean and the staff spoke English. Other items were reasonably priced for portion size and couldn't be happier after dining with a group. Meals are served family style. Everything we had was delicious. It wasn't the best I've ever had, but definitely reasonable. Average entree item price 70-80hkd.

Getting to try it in Hong Kong, the home of Dimsum, I thought this was going to be a 10/10. Yeah, not quite. The wrapping of each dishes were thicker than most places, so that was already offputting. That plus the taste of the fillings inside the xiao long baos, it's like you eat one and you already feel fed up and over it. And then there was no Har Gow in the menu, one of the most essential in a dimsum restaurant... Price was also much more expensive than your typical dimsum places in Hong Kong, and then some outrageous charges like $12 for tea per person, when it's literally one teapot at a table... and adding an additional 10% if you want to take the dishes to go if you don't finish... Yeah, this is a hard no. The only reason why I'm even giving it a two star rating is because customer service was spectacular and the tea was pretty tasty.

Sportful Garden (what kind of a name is that?) does a pretty good job, creating new dishes as well as refreshing the staples, like the super long spring rolls. Situated at the very top of the isquare mall in TST, it's a convenient location both for Kowloon and HK siders. The restaurant itself is a beautifully bright space with amazing panoramic views. It's quite modern/upscale and would be a good place to go for work lunches etc but you won't get any nasty looks rocking up in shorts/tshirts etc... (i went there in gym gear). The food...wow. I thought after 30+ years of eating chinese food i'd pretty much seen every iteration of a spring roll. I was mistaken. Granted it's hard to make the case for a spring roll to be the standout dish at yum cha but i've never seen them done like this (pictures attached). Each one is about 20cm long and stuffed with juicy fresh shrimp. I have it on good authority that they are also a massive crowd pleaser for kids too. Other than that, every dish was equally superb and fresh. All the usual suspects (har gao, siu mai, lo bak gou, char siu sou) were top notch; fresh, juicy, thin skins. The lo mai gai was another standout - not the usual stodgy, dense, overly sticky lump; rather it was surprisingly light and the meat didn't taste at all congealed, with just enough glutinous-ness to make the rice sit neatly. And the crispy pork cubes...oh the crispy pork cubes. I'd been craving these for over a year since the only offerings to be found in NY are better described as lumps of soggy fat with a micro film of crispy skin and occasionally a bit of pork. All in all an amazing feed. Adding it to the list of regular places to hit in HK.
