This is not my usual Tim Ho Wan location but decided to hop by for an early brunch. Arriving on a weekday before lunch rush, there were empty tables and I got seated right away. (At first, the waitress tried to make me share a table of 2 with another single diner. After both of us rejected that idea, I was able to get a table of 2 all for myself) I like the fast food like casual all day dim sum concept of THW because of the flexibility if having dim sum even for dinner or as a light snack. I ordered a few items to try. Food was ok but not amazingly good. This location is more down to earth, less touristy and more a neighbourhood joint vibe. I don't mind coming back but definitely not worth lining up for the experience.

Siu mai, beef balls, "tiger skin" green peppers, crab meat egg rolls.

Tim Ho Wan is officially the lowest-priced Michelin one-star restaurant in the World. Guys, listen: It's the lowest-priced, not the cheapest, Michelin one-starred restaurant. Because the food there is not cheap in any sense. Gals, listen: If some guy takes you there he is by no means a "cheap date" but rather a very savvy foodie indeed. The founder, Mak Kwai-pui, was a chef at the three-starred Chinese restaurant - Lung King Heen -- in the Four Seasons Hotel in HK. In 2009 he fulfilled every chef's ultimate dream: To leave his employer and start his own restaurant which will eventually earn a Michelin star. The dim sum menu at Tim Ho Wan is very focused: Small selections, all freshly made, and perfect execution. The ambience is just like a typical HK style café (cha chaan teng). There are no opulent chandeliers, elegant rose wood furniture, crystal wine glasses, or any extravagance that is typical in Michelin starred Chinese restaurants. Nothing fancy schmancy. Just down-to-earth and perfectly delicious traditional dim sums. I highly recommend the pan-fried stuffed "tiger skin" green peppers. The filling was a nice blend of fish paste and pork which was absolutely yummy. These long and thin "tiger skin" green peppers are packed with peppery flavors and mildly hot, but not sweet like those American green peppers. These are unique to only several Asian regions so be sure to check them out while you are there. The siu mai (pork and shrimp dumping) was the one of the best ever and comparable to the best you can find in HK (such as Maxim Palace or Tsui Hang Village) but at about a-third of the price. I particularly liked the crab meat egg roll which was very creative and delicious. It was definitely one of the most memorable egg rolls that I've ever had. Last but not the least is the almost heavenly dessert, sweet red bean soup with taro paste. One taste and that will change your life. The United States has never had a dim sum restaurant that's up to par with Hong Kong's standard. That changed in December, 2016. When Tim Ho Wan opened their first US branch in NYC. Now I'm only a 5-hour flight away from good dim sum.

Before I was planning my trip to Hong Kong, this place was the number one place in my visiting list. I found few Tim Ho Wan place around Hong Kong area, and I decided to give one at Causeway Bay, which is not the original, a try. I maybe had too much of a high expectation. Tim Ho Wan, in my opinion, is so-so. I definitely enjoyed the unique taste of the food items as well as how they look. However, what I can say is that not everyone will exactly appreciate the taste, depending on what you like. The prices are pretty cheap, so they are good in value. What's really missing, though, is the service. The service is virtually non-existent, which is kind of expected from most of famous Hong Kong restaurants. Yet, coming from United States, I believe it is kind of hard to believe Michelin starred restaurant waitresses can barely speak English and not so courteous. The service is darn fast, so I give a credit for that. But you will be sit right next to everyone else on a row of big tables. The overall atmosphere at this place seems like saying "eat quicky, pay, and leave." If you are simply okay with that, I recommend this place to try. But if you want to be at a place, where you can sit down, relax, and enjoy your food, this is not the place for you.

Best cost Michelins one star dim sum restaurant! Love it ! Especially before my long flight, this is definitely big plus to Hong Kong

Came by for lunch the other day and it was a mediocre experience despite being in the 2017 Michelin Guide. Started off with the sticky rice wrapped in lotus leaf and it was on the bland side. The pork was overcooked and the rice was too thick... Moved on to the shrimp dumpling which was excellent. The skin was translucent and thin. The steamed beef balls were okay, although they were a tad bland without the special Worcester sauce. The BBQ pork rice noodle crepe were fresh although they were light on the BBQ pork. The highlight was the baked BBQ pork buns which was light and fluffy with tasty pieces of BBQ pork inside. The ambiance of the restaurant was rather basic and catered more to the locals. Cash only!

Coming on a weekday for lunch, we didn't encounter a ton of people, so we were able to sit down right away. The seats are crammed closer together, so you are literally sitting right beside the party next to you. We ordered the sticky rice, BBQ pork bun with the Mexican pastry top, shrimp rice roll and siu mai. The siu mai was not worth it cause it was fairly small, bit all of the other portions were quite big. Being a Michelin starred dim sum place, I thought all of their food was very fresh - but it's inevitable since they're really popular. Secondly, my favourite thing to eat here is probably with BBQ pork bun with the Mexican pastry top. The bread was soft, with a delicious centre and a crispy top. In total, our bill came to $111 HKD, which is slightly more on the expensive side for the amount of dim sum we got. However, for a Michelin star meal, I'd say this is pretty worth it!

This was my second visit to Tim Ho Wan with my first at the Mong Kok location and it did not disappoint. We arrived at the North Point location about 20 minutes before opening at 10AM and a long line formed shortly after. Everything here is delicious but a must try is the baked char sui bao. Crispy sweet crust, a soft bottom dough, and bbq gravy goodness dripping out!

Everyone is crazy about the cheapest Michelin star, Tim Ho Wan is one of the dim sum restaurant, and may be The Top list when visiting Hong Kong. So I had to come try it. Unfortunately, I was quite disappointed... How did this place even get the Michelin star?!?! Actually the dim sum isn't BAD, but compared to all the other amazing dim sum options in Hong Kong, this surely doesn't stand out to me at all. It's average. I would give it maybe 2-3 stars had it not been for the restricted menu. Unbelievable, you're only allowed to hand in 3 orders each time... Basically you line up for 1+ hours to sit in a SUPER tight and cramped space with a limited menu and average food. Nonetheless, I will say though, that the beef balls and BBQ bunzs are a must try--the others? I don't know~

Went here for my overnight layover in HK and it is one of the best, if not the best dimsum place I've ever been to! I went there right when they opened and 15 minutes later the place is packed. You order off the menu, a la carte style, not the traditional push cart, so they serve it to you freshly made and super hot. Their food is unassumingly good and every dish I had is distinct and packed full of flavor. This place truly deserves its one Michelin star, and did I mention this is the cheapest Michelin star rated restaurant in the world?! I ordered four different entrees and I only paid ~US$12! I highly recommend this place when you visit Hong Kong and I see myself returning for more if I get a chance.

Tim Ho Wan is one of those must try places when visiting Hong Kong. Also a great place to check out if you've always wanted to try a restaurant that has received a Michelin star and haven't had a chance to check it off your list yet. It was a first for me anyway. I arrived pretty early, probably around 10am or so and there was no wait, we were seated immediately and served right away. You don't see your typical dim sum carts at this place, you order from the menu because your dishes are made fresh! Everything we ordered was really good. I didn't have anything amazing that I'd die to come back for but the pork buns were pretttty good! The service is quick, food is fresh with good flavor, and it's really just an in and out type situation. To top it off, it's not super expensive at all and that's another thing that makes this place a great spot for dim sum. Delicious dim sum for a decent price, you don't find too many of those around that have a Michelin star! Definitely check it out!

Pork & Prawn Shu Mai

Tim Ho Wan at first might seem intimidating to a visiting tourist. From the consistently long lines that wind down the street, the rude & pushy staff, or the somewhat unfamiliar menu. I absolutely get it. Putting that aside, this place is worth venturing outside your comfort zone for. Originally finding my way here due to the hype around it's Michelin Star, I must admit it took me a handful of visits to actually make my mind up about whether I liked the food or not. After eating here a few times I was able to perfect my order & eventually hit my stride with what appealed to my palate & what did not; as a result, I always rave about this place to people visiting Hong Kong. So what's on my 'Must Eat List' here? Well the Pork Buns are what they're famous for & while they've yummy & innovative (the requirements of obtaining a Michelin Star) they're by no means my favourite dish on the menu. Some of my favourite dishes here include the delicious Har Gow Prawn Dumplings, the meaty Shu Mai Dumplings & the delightfully spicy Wonton's in Chili Sauce. Finally, it wouldn't be right if I didn't mention the weird looking Steamed Beef Ball in Been Curd. This dish is loaded full of fresh coriander & without question, my favourite thing on the menu. I could eat these meaty offerings all day. It's also worth noting that this place is cheap. Like, ridiculous cheap. Whenever I dine here I have a terrible habit of over-ordering to the point of embarrassment & it never costs me more than $12 AUD. Tips? Arrive at 9.50am before the doors open at 10am to avoid waiting in line. They also stash English menus behind the front desk, don't be afraid to ask for it. Stretchy pants also come in hand here!

We met friends for dinner and actually went to the wrong restaurant, for there is another Star of Canton just up the street at I Square too and we went there by accident. This restaurant has an expansive and striking view of the harbor, high ceilings, big glassy chandeliers and is very spacious. There is a stage and so much room that it seems like the appropriate spot to have a banquet or wedding. It is one of those large Chinese restaurants that serves a lot of people and thus the soft goods (carpet, chairs, linens, etc) seem warn and need updating. Although I did not do the ordering and did not pay the bill, in addition to special orders of hairy crabs at an additional cost, we had a set dinner with like 7 courses for around $400HKD (which seemed like a great value, knowing all the delicious food we had). The set included their highlighted dish of Braised Whole Japanese Oma Abalone, in addition to marinated sea cucumbers, shrimp, sticky rice, a great soup with bean curd on top and although small and at the very end, a seasame rice ball that was really spectacular & a party in your mouth. Found in 1998, Star of Canton insists the tradition of the canton dishes with less oil, less salt, no MSG and no artificial colour. I like that and it is a niche in a sea of Chinese restaurant options. We had a good experience and liked the ambiance of the place, so we would reccomend and absolutely go back.

We did not know it was a 2 star Michelin restaurant, and I was a bit apprehensive at the beginning, because we did not want to spend too much money on food on this trip. Upon our request, we were seated right in front of the Harbour view and were able to see the light show that start around 8pm. The most beautiful view of HK at night! We opted not to order the duck, which needs to be ordered 24 hour in advance and although I am sure quite delicious is quite pricy (HK$1,438+10%). Reservation in this place is a must! Highlights were the Wok-fried Wagyu with Green Peppers, Mushrooms and Garlic, Wok-seared Chicken Fillet with Lemon Sauce The server was so kind as to give us half servings so we could "sample" some of the more expensive items, add fried rice for substitution with the meat dishes and free desert. This flexibility in providing half portion and substitution is something i've rarely experience in a Michelin restaurant. Overall, we payed $US240 (1,900 Hong Kong Dollar) which includes the 10% service charge for two people for a michelin 2 star restaurant for an unforgettable meal! If I return to HK, I will definitely come back and try their dim sum.
