Very solid quality dim sum. Skip the turnip cake and the siu mai. Get the pork bun and sausage rice! The pork bun is sweet and savory. It was my favorite dish. My first Hong Kong Yelp post! YEAH!

Our final bill, 161 HKD is about $21 USD, not bad!

Apparently the cheapest Michelin-started restaurant? Well if you're like me, I sometimes like to go do dim sum solo, so it ends up adding up to a pricey meal anyway lol. But if you bring lors of friends, no doubt the cost is pretty cheap! I was staying with a local friend who had never actually tried this location, even though it was only 4 minutes from his apartment (dangerous)! This location is located inside a mall. While there seemed to be a lot of vandalism around because of the protests, the restaurant was still operating as usual. During busy peak times you may need to share a table, but turnover is fast as they're constantly steaming the dim sum. First they bring you out a large kettle of tea - it's customary to wash your cups and utensils using the scalding tea in the large bowl provided, as a means of disinfecting. The tea you use is the same tea you drink, they'll just take away the "dirty" tea bowl once you're finished. No one takes offense, like I said it's customary and it's weird if you don't follow suit. They have both an English and Cantonese menu available, as well as a placemat with all the pictures of the food. Anyways, my friend and I ordered the har gow (steamed shrimp dumplings), siu mai (pork dumplings with shrimp), glutinous rice dumpling, baked bun with BBQ pork, steamed rice flour with beef, and (mistakenly) steamed rice flour with pig's liver lol. Overall the food was quite delicious. They are famous for their baked buns with BBQ pork, and wow oh wow were they indeed delicious. Crispy and flaky on the outside, but soft and chewy on the inside with delicious salty BBQ pork. Next time I'll have to get at least 2 orders of those buns. Our total came out to 161 HKD, which is about $21 USD, pretty cheap for 6 dim sum plates! Oh and I think tea was charged at 3 HKD per person, which is like negligible at 40 cents USD. All the other Tim Ho Wan locations have great reviews as well, so I definitely recommend this location if you find yourself in the TKO area!

I came here twice in 1 week while traveling in Hong Kong and it is truly a must-visit stop for tourists. Be sure to ask for the English menu. For $10-15, you get first-class dim sum for 2. I recommend: - BBQ pork buns - best I've ever had, generously filled and crispy bottom crust - Fried milk - never had this anywhere else, it's like fried silken tofu, but milky - Liver crepe rice flour rolls - cannot find this in most American dim sum restaurants

Pretty clean and spacious location, compared to the one previously in Mong Kok and the one in Central. Though there are usually lines out the door, the turnaround is pretty quick! The baked BBQ pork buns are the BEST and hands-down, my fave dish here. The bun was flaky and fluffy (think pineapple bun texture, but not as buttery and thick on the top), and each was filled generously with BBQ pork. SO. GOOD. Each order comes with three buns, and I was so tempted to order a couple more orders to take with me back home! We tried a variety of other dim sum dishes as well, but none of them really stood out to me. They were good, but not particularly unique or outstanding. However, it is definitely worth visiting this place at least once! Where else will you find a Michelin Star restaurant where all dishes are less than $30HKD !?

Stuffed pepper with fish (fish ball consistency)
Sean L.

Tim Ho Wan offers one of the cheapest Michelin Star dining experiences in the world. Apart from the long line you may find waiting outside, most people would not be able to tell that this is a famous restaurant from its appearance, but don't judge this book by its cover; their dim sum is dynamite. BBQ Pork Bun - I highly recommend this dish. The bun tastes like a sweet danish butter cookie and has a slight cookie texture. The meat inside is flavorful and also coated in a sweet BBQ sauce. Shrimp Dumpling and Vermicelli Shrimp Roll - common dim sum dishes but just executed better in every aspect than your typical dim sum restaurant. The shrimp is juicy, the dumpling skin is thin and tight, and the vermicelli noodle is smooth. Pork and Shrimp Shumai - this is undoubtably the best pork and shrimp shumai I have tasted in my life. The pork and shrimp flavors work in perfect harmony. Pork and Veggies in Bean Curd - the bean curd skin has the perfect texture. The pork and veggies are juicy and delicious. Pork Spare Ribs - very good but mostly bones like most dim sum spare rib dishes. Stuffed pepper with mixed fish - this was probably the most interesting dish I tried. The pepper is not spicy and the fish is of the fish ball, processed consistency. Beef and egg with steamed rice - this is the one dish I do not recommend ordering. It's not that this dish is bad, it just tastes very ordinary compared to everything else on the menu.

Queue at around 12 on a Sunday

The original shop which is at Hong Kong station has received mixed reviews especially concerning service. I have never been there and was happy to find out that there's another branch at the Popcorn Mall. Here everything is much more relaxed. The queues are definitely much shorter on weekends, on weekdays you can easily find a table. Service is efficient and actually quite friendly. Here it's all about Dim Sum and they are very good! I was actually surprised how good the food is. Outstanding is for sure the baked BBQ pork buns. Everything else is excellent, too. In addition it is really inexpensive!

All the popular items still taste good. Dim sum restaurants are everywhere in HK. It still worth the special trip to eat there.

It's early for dim sum for us in the States because we usually have dim sum for lunch around 11:30/noon but here, dim sum is great all day long. The place was already packed when I arrived and we had to share tables for a while until the gentleman we were sharing it with was ready to leave. Afterwards, we ordered off the menu, marking what we wanted and waiting for them to steam the items so that they come out fresh! We ordered a ton of dim sum, which is why you always need to go to dim sum with a group of people so that you can have a taste of everything. Of the things we ordered, I loved the chicken feet, the BBQ pork buns, and the fried turnip cakes the most. The chicken feet was extremely flavorful and meaty. The flavor was great and will definitely turn doubters into lovers. The BBQ pork buns were packed with filling. The meat was also not as red as the ones you would find elsewhere which is great cuz I'm pretty sure it's all food coloring anyways. You bite into it and expect a ton of fat but nope, it's all meat. Finally, the turnip cake was lightly fried and and stacked on top of each other. Also packed with turnips so you aren't getting jyped with a flour cake. Comes with some hot sauce to add that punch of flavor but not necessary even for spicy food lovers like me. I always say dim sum in Hong Kong beats dim sum in the States and this proves it. Everything was better IMO. (Except for maybe the Egg Yolk Buns that were supposed to be runny...they came out kind of solid and lacked that oozing filling I was expected) But besides that, the food was great, which makes up for the subpar service. Our empty dim sum dishes were not quickly picked up and they were slow to refill tea but besides that the service was OK. If you are in the area and looking for dim sum, you should drop by. It gets packed in the morning with the elderly getting their breakfast on but if you are willing to share a table, you will get a treat with the dim sum.

Yes, the meal selection here is smaller than LG7, but the siu mei (Cantonese roasted meats) here is allegedly tastier (but no goose). My meals have ranged from 21-25 HKD. Many students on campus dislike the egg tarts here, but I actually liked them a LOT, more than the famous Tai Cheong egg tarts, so it is up to personal taste-- Canteen II egg tarts are more creamy/custard like with the flaky crust, as opposed to Tai Cheong's jelly-like consistency and more cookie-like crust. These egg tarts are only 3 HKD, but there are only two batches a day, ~9 AM and ~3 PM. In the morning, they put out a good selection of buns, which vary day-to-day. I highly recommend their pineapple bun and Italian rosemary ciabatta. The tuna bun was okay, and I would not get their sausage and cheese but again. The buns range from 4-6 HKD. There are two lift areas to go up - one in the main lobby and one off to the right side, down a narrow hallway (best for when the main lifts are too busy). When talking to my friends about the best places for dim sum, establishments such as Maxim's Palace, Tim Ho Wan, Lei Garden, Dim Dim Sum and One Dim Sum pop up. But not many know about Ho Choi... Why is that? I'm actually not too sure myself. They have two branches in Sheung Wan/Sai Wan, which could be far for some, and one in Kwun Tong (which I frequent because it's close to where I work). Some say the original Ho Choi in Sheung Wan/Sai Wan is OK, nothing to special, so I decided to take a visit out to see if they were correct. (A separate review for the Sai Wan one will be posted soon!) But I can definitely vouch for Ho Choi in Kwun Tong to be one of my favorite places! The tables in the main area - that is, not in a "room" - are up for grabs, first come first serve. Get there before 12:10pm to beat the lunch crowd, or risk waiting for a while. The best thing, if you want to skip the wait, is to make a reservation for one of the tables in the "rooms" for ordering main dishes (小菜). You must order 3 or more main dishes when seated at those tables. But of course, you can still order dim sum there. Win-win! Also, because it's sectioned off from the main area, it's much quieter and more conducive to business lunches. While the prices for dim sum and main dishes have gone up in recent years (inflation, rental increases, etc), rest assured you are still getting your money's worth of delicious food! They used to have different price tiers - cheaper in the morning, standard rates during weekday lunch times, and higher prices on the weekends - but upon checking the prices during my last visit, it looks like they are now fixed. For 5 people, with 4 main dishes, and 6 dim sum plates, the total came to be just under HKD 700. Excellent bang for your buck! The tea charge is $12 per person, which is fairly standard. Dim sum plates are tiered, starting at $17 for 'small', up to $32-$35 for 'specialty' plates. Ordering the dim sum is very easy, as you just need to fill in a Scantron-like sheet (college throw-back eh?), with dishes listed in English and Chinese. I was asked to order for the table: - Crispy chicken (half) 脆皮雞 (半) - so crispy, so good! - Sweet and sour pork 咕嚕肉 - my first time ordering the 咕嚕肉 here and everyone raved about it! The freshly prepared sweet and sour pork is a game-changer here and puts those found at a buffet to shame. - Sauteed broccoli with scallops - need those vegetables and seafood! - E-fu noodles with shrimp and egg whites - I appreciate the lack of salt and strong flavors in this noodle dish, as it helps to balance out the other salty and heavy dishes. Thankfully no MSG! Dim sum on point. I'm already hungry for more, even from writing this review. Top favorites here are the BBQ pork buns, chicken feet with black bean sauce (my absolute favorite!), Chiu Chow dumplings (潮州粉粿), and Jin Deui sesame balls (煎堆). If you still have space for dessert, go for it. If you don't, still go for it.
