We heard some nice reviews for this place, so while in Tsim Sha Shui en route to our next destination, we happened to have come across this place and gave it a try for dinner, especially since there was almost no waiting. The food was good (especially the massive wontons) and came out fast enough. Portions were good and we didn't feel hungry once we got to our next destination. However, their place felt cramped, as there wasn't much room for our child's stroller, and the staff informing us that they had no child seats, forced us to take turns eating. This place, while good to eat, definitely isn't as family-friendly as we hoped. Space issues notwithstanding, we will keep this place on our shortlist for the next time we are in HK, though the next visit will have to be with grownups as it's not an ideal choice for families with small children. read more

We had a great dinner here after a long day of walking and sightseeing. I got the standard wonton with egg noodles and it was delicious. Our group also ordered rice noodles, tendons, fish balls, dumplings, spicy wontons. We were supposed to order via the QR code, but the waitress just helped us order due to a fat finger issue. lol I know there are many choices to have wonton noodles in HK especially with Michelin stars, but Chee Kei was perfect for us. This is a super popular won ton mein shop just off the busiest stretch of TST. We were referred by local relatives, and it's clearly not a secret spot. I arrived at around 7 pm on a Friday night and there was a line of 10-15 people queueing up outside. The restaurant is on the small side but the tables seem to turn quickly. I was there just for takeout so I went inside and directly placed my order. The price is right with won ton mein priced at $40 HKD for a good-sized portion. One of HK's most recognized chains gets its own touristy location in the heart of TST. In comparison to the Kowloon / HK sister locales, Lock Rd Chee Kei seems to be the less congested of the bunch. Causeway Bay was my Chee Kei of choice for a long time, but this joint is certainly no slouch. The wonton noodles get a thumbs up for consistency in flavor and freshness in taste. The location looks small from the outside, but the interior boasts plenty of space and tables for all sorts of parties. It is clean and the turnover for most tables is quick, for those who can stand to wait a minute. Most of the staff is usually seen whizzing around, delivering food and taking orders quickly. It's just another day's work for these folks, and by folks I mean mainland tourists. My main star of the show, the wonton noodles are just a notch below glorious. I actually appreciate them more than the nearby Mak's (https://www.yelp.com/biz/DPHc7QeaqWsMaRslW0aIDw) on tastiness alone, even though I disagree with the relatively small portion. The wontons and noodles are excellent texture wise and stand to be upgraded when one adds some tender beef brisket to the mix. Broth could probably be better, but maybe I'm just sodium paranoid. I can't say I'm much of a fan of the sides, which range from fried wontons to steamed dumplings. Even the kailan is relatively unimpressive but who really would be here for the sides? Vegetarians perhaps, but even picky eaters wouldn't find it sufficient. Lastly, if you are on the good graces of the staff, one can walk out of here with coupons! Food (***** out of *****); The wonton noodle soup is even better than the legendary Mak Man Kee Noodle Shop (麥文記麵家). There are certain touristy places that are over-hyped online but really not that good. Locals will not go to those places because they'll go where it's legit, man. Anyways, this little noodle shop in TST is legit. You walk in and smell this real pungent odor of dried shrimp, you'll know that it's the real deal. Anyways, the shrimp wonton noodle soup is the best in the world. See my pics. Notice how translucent and paper thin is the wonton wrapper. That's one delicate wonton cooked by a very skilled chef. Now, scoop some of that soup up. See all the tiny shrimp eggs? That gives it the trademark pungent odor and deep flavor. The soup also is made of ground dried fish powder that's been cooked into a flavorful broth. Mak Man Kee, on the other hand, will serve you MSG soup. Also, the noodles are fresh made from scratch. It is really bouncy in the mouth. You cannot get this special mouth feel from dried reconstituted noodles. The wheat and barley with ginger drink was also special. I've never seen another restaurant that offered this drink. It was really good. I ordered it hot. Nothing beats this drink on the rare cold Hong Kong winter day (Hong Kong is usually hot and sticky). I'm not crazy about the fish meatballs, though. They are a bit rubbery. Even though they are deep fried, oddly enough they are not crunchy, just kinda greasy. Atmosphere (**** out of *****); Mak Man Kee is a dirty little dive. Chee Kei has nice decor and is very clean. Service (*** out of *****); Typical Hong Kong restaurant waitress service. They are fast, efficient, but not too friendly. Conclusion (***** out of *****); They have numerous specials at various times of day. Even without the specials, it is a good deal. It is 55 HKD for a bowl of shrimp wonton noodles. If you want to add a wheat and barley drink to this, then it is only 5 HKD more. If you add a fish meat ball to this, then it is only 10 HKD more. If you order a drink by itself, then it will cost 20 HKD. If you order the fish meat balls by itself, then it is 40 HKD. That's why the tally is 4 starts, but I've bumped them up a star. read more

While flipping through the newspaper in Hong Kong, we spotted an article recommending the top 10 Wanton Noodles in Hong Kong and different branches of Mak's Noodle had secured a few rankings in the list. Even knowing that back in Singapore we have Mak's Noodle in a few shopping malls, we still decided to go ahead for our dinner / supper after our trip from Macau (Apprently, there was not much eateries opening at the hour). Our stomachs were all shouting for food as we still did not have our dinner yet. While waiting, we had some soy milk to keep our stomach warm and fill. Soy milk was fresh and level of sweetness is moderate. Fresh Soy Milk - 10 HKD We all know that the palm size bowl portion is the signature's of Mak's Noodle and no complains about it, not even the masculine who tends to eat more. Perhaps they know that this is Hong Kong and finding of supper / food around our accommodation is definitely not an issue to them. Wanton Noodle in Soup - 38 HKD Standards of their noodle was pretty well maintain, springy and fine with tasty soup and spring onions as garnishing just like what we had in Singapore. Wanton was plump and generously filled with prawns. Though dish is straight forward with just noodles and dumplings, I would say that they were doing well enough to maintain its reputation and even in overseas. Great noodle shop in Kowloon. I thought it would be more of a mom-and-pop establishment but it was actually quite nice inside. You can ask for an English menu (if you need one). They're known for their wonton noodle soup and it was tasty but everything was packed so tightly into the small bowl that I couldn't really get the full experience. Originally came across this place by watching a youtube food blogger. I came here with my parents who had not been back to Hong Kong in over 40 years. Won ton mein was the one thing he said he craved the most from his childhood so I took a chance and put the food vlogger to the test. We got a bowls of the beef tendon wonton noodle soup with add ons (chicken wings, extra dumplings in spicy sauce, and a sweet fungus dessert soup). ***Note: the menu makes it appear that you need to order a set (noodles + drink + add on) we came to find out afterwards that this was not the case. - The chicken wings were recommended by the waitress as a must try...it was terrible and favorless. - The extra dumplings were amazing! 6 dumplings (2 fish balls, 2 shrimp, 2 pork) - Fungus soup, not my thing by my mom seemed to like it The main attraction was the noodle soup which was amazing! Mmmm. Although this was my only bowl of wonton noodle soup in Hong Kong, it has certainly set a benchmark. I couldn't decide whether to get the shrimp wontons or the beef brisket, so I got both! After having tried both, I would definitely suggest sticking to just the wontons. The soup has such depth of flavor that just filled my entire body as I drank it. The wontons were so bouncy and shrimpy with such a light and delicate wrapper. And the noodles had great texture! Overall, a delicious bowl. I also got chicken wings as a side. I guess I should have yelped before coming here because apparently they're known for their wonton noodle soup and I didn't get it. The restaurant is located on a small street next to iSqaure and the interior is very nice compared to all the other restaurants around it. FOOD I got (E) Crispy Pork Chop with Vegetable Rice +Dim Sum dish Fried Chicken +Cold Soybean Milk combo. The food is alright for my taste. If you're wondering what vegetable rice is, it's basically shredded vegetable such as bok choy and carrots mixed into rice. It was actually pretty gross to be honest. This came out to be around $10+ USD. I'd say it's a pretty good price for the quantity of food you get, but the quality of it is definitely lacking. SERVICE Service is alright here. Happened upon this place as we were staying down the street at the Sheraton in Kowloon. This place specializes in noodles and congee. We came for a late dinner and were seated promptly although I could see that you may have to wait for peak meal times. There's about 15 tables but food seems to come quickly so I can't imagine that people would wait long. They have set menus for different types of noodles (won ton noodles) or congee where you'll pay $30-50 HK for a meal with entree, a drink, and appetizer such as dumplings, vegetables, or meat. I picked a won ton noodles with soup vegetables and tea. The serving size is normal for HK but small by US standards. You get about 3-4 won ton with a nice serving of noodles. Super tasty. The vegetables were prepped well and the tea was good. The service is pretty good although I suspect that we got a little more attention due to our cute baby with us. If we were just a couple, based on what I observed around us, we'd probably have to ask for someone to order food or to clean up. But this is typical behavior for HK restaurants.
