I hate it when I dine out and think "I really could have made this better at home." I most certainly did not think that here. The broth is so flavorful and complex, the noodles have this amazing, almost crunchy/bouncy texture (I think they use duck eggs), and the shrimp dumplings are just oh... *drool* nom nom nom... This bowl of noodle soup is "slap yo mama" good. I don't typically want a hot steamy bowl of noodles in the summer, but I would eat these in the summer, in the spring, in the fall, and in the winter. I would eat them with a friend, I would eat two bowls without a friend. And... the price is SO reasonable! This place gets an Asian "so cheap!"

Not much to add to the other Yelpers' reviews except to say that when you are in HK, do visit any Tsim Chai Kee! I am a big big wanton mee noodles fan, and I am very satisfied with my HKD27 wanton noodles which I tried in May 2017. Do give it a try - you will not be disappointed! #14 out of 50 targeted reviews form 2017 (36 more to go) Yay!!!! #myshortestyelpreviewever lol

This place has redefined my expectations for wonton noodles. To be fair, wonton noodles in the US are pretty shitty on average, so my expectations were pretty low to begin with. That said, I was mesmerized by the wonderfully bouncy noodles (I feel like they would bounce back up if you threw them at the floor), strongly flavored broth and HUGE prawn wontons that came with this bowl. I guess I just haven't had a proper bowl of wonton noodles before coming here. Sadly, now that I'm back in the states, I'm going to have a hard time finding a place that measures up to this :(

Was craving won ton noodles on my short trip to HK. These won tons were big with giant shrimp inside. SOOOOO GOOD! The funniest thing about this restaurant was when I asked for napkins in which the waitress replied in Cantonese: Buy it outside, they're $3HKD a pack!

Definitely the best wonton soup I've had of all the recommended in Central/ HK island. Very simple menu (English and Chinese available on the table) and only costs about US$3. Wontons are pork and shrimp and definitely the biggest and most flavorful in comparison to their competitors. First came here while taking a Foodie tour with some friends who were visiting and glad I did because with a very small entrance (just stairs leading downstairs off the street) it's easy to miss this place. Note: they charge either 3-5hkd for a small pack of napkins

While the other location didn't advertise it, this Tsim Chai Kee seemed to advertise their nomination as a michelin star location. I guess one has one over the other? Well, I highly recommend this location over the other one a few minutes away! First off, it's on a major road so it's easy to get to and find. I walked in a few minutes after it opened and the staff were still dining but all gestured for me to sit somewhere. The waiter seemed nervous about me ordering (I assume he couldn't speak English), but he was very nice the whole time. I tried to order in Cantonese but he seemed to be quiet regardless. Still, I enjoyed the service a lot more than other places during my stay. I ordered the wonton and fishball with yellow noodles and it was delicious! Both locations have similar qualities but the inclusion of the fishball meant more protein so I was definitely full by the end of the meal. The meal was also quite affordable. Who says you have to go to Tim Ho Wan for a cheap michelin star meal? This one was great and I didn't have to wait in line, sit with others, or get ignored by the staff. Ah, I love it!

    Great texture of noodles!

Overrated for the noodles. Only the prawn wonton and sliced beef was good. The fish balls were a bit tasteless.

Fuk Loi Kui? F that. It's not what you think it is…read more It's the Cantonese pronounciation of the restaurant 福來居, but to make it more confusing it has another name embedded in as 福來居(牛記)海鮮飯店 (Ngau Kee) Seafood Restaurant. There's something about this place that gives me a "je ne sais quoi" kind of vibe. And that is, there is some intangible quantity and quality, that really makes this place totally awesome, provided you have the right minded set of dining companions with you, who share a love of great no nonsense local food. If you want killer stir fry in the hood kind of eats, with a decent seafood selection that is not entirely off the wall expensive, yet full of local flavor, FLK is a very sound choice. It is within very easy walking distance from Prince Edward MTR station, and is very near the roasties shop famous for roast crispy skin pig (still using charcoal) 永合隆飯店 Wing Hap Lung Restaurant. Started off with a bottle of ice cold Tsing Tao. I forgot how large the bottles in Hong Kong are. The Tsing Tao's in the states at Chinese restaurants are generally dwarf size bottles in comparison. So if you have 4 or more in your party, one bottle is good to start. They chill the glasses, a little extra attention to detail to make your "Cantonese izakaya" experience better. Too many good things on the menu, FLK has this dai pai dong esque vibe, and while it is indoors, the atmosphere and food is close enough that you can have an awesome time in here. 豉油王煎中蝦 - soy sauce supreme (Maggi) pan fried medium prawns. Incredible umami and flavor, but where are the heads?? Even the shells can be eaten! 薑蔥桶蠔 - ginger scallion stir fried oysters. A touch oily, but these are to be expected. Really awesome otherwise! Oysters are either from Canada or United States. 清蒸瓜子斑 - steamed melonseed grouper (wild fish). We arrived close to 8 pm, and by then the seafood selection from the styrofoam tanks were dwindling. At most maybe 3 to 4 kinds of live fish, and this melonseed grouper 瓜子斑 is certainly not a cheap specimen....but cheaper than having a kinki shioyaki at a local Japanese eatery! An extremely solid choice, well executed. The flesh came off the bones with ease. This is why when you travel to HK, eating fresh seafood is a must. It's a far cry from the farmed American fish at Cantonese restaurants in the USA. 上湯蒜子大豆苗 - large pea sprout with garlic in superior broth. Really hard to go wrong with this prep. Stir frying uses more oil, so this approach is healthier. 豉油王炒麵 - soy sauce supreme stir fried noodles. Haha back to stir frying because we want to equalize the guilt! When having seafood like this, ending the meal with a killer plate of carbs is a must, and soy sauce supreme noodles 豉油王炒麵 is a solid choice. It is also perhaps the de facto method of testing wok hay (the other tester dish is beef chow fun, but we're at a seafood restaurant). This rendition is very solid and intense. It's a touch on the dry side which is what I prefer. Oh, I believe they stock Yu Kwen Yick chili sauce, so you can ask for a little bit to make the noodle experience jump a few notches. Fruit platter for dessert (included in the meal), which was an extremely nice touch. Watermelon, pineapple, and papaya. Refreshing even on a mildly chilly January evening. Great food that soothes and satisfies. Even recommended by local celebrity Chef Leung of Hoi King Heen on his FB page!

They gave us a booklet along with the paper to fill out, and most of the dim sum was the classic dim sum that I'm accustomed to. Their chiu chou fun gor was alright for me. They did put a good amount of peanuts in here but the exterior was a bit heavier on the dough side. Their siu mai and har gow were pretty good. Their cheung fun wasn't the silky light type, so I was just alright with it. Their Chicken with Sticky Rice wraped in Lotus Leaf was huge though, way bigger than those in Los Angeles. Their fresh mango custard roll was my highlight though, as they had chunks of mango in the middle and it was sweet. Would try this again. I think the one other aspect of this place is the interior is really clean, and they have a decent amount of tables inside. Service is a bit more attentive as the area isn't as large. I was most certainly full upon completion of this meal though haha.

This dish came way too late. We were already almost finished our beef. We chased the servers twice and both times neither went to go check. They just said it's coming soon. They've lost the charm of a dai pai dong after they got famous. They have way too many servers that stand around and not look out for customers who waive them down. They charge you for bringing outside food/drinks. Apparently they were celebrating their 79th anniversary and handed out phoenix rolls. However, not everyone got one. You only get one if you ask..
