What a unique experience. We sat down and the server came over to us, pointed to a menu in Chinese and handed us two beers. We said OK not knowing what we were getting into. How do you know you're a foreigner at Mr. Wong's? You order the all you can drink and eat. I found this restaurant on TripAdvisor and Yelp and it piqued my interest. Cheap beer and food?! Down! This place is pretty low key unless you know what's up. We enter and all menus on the walls were written in Chinese and nothing resembled the endless booze lol. Only when I asked about it, I was given the 411 on what it came with. Besides beer, you can order milk tea, sodas, and other soft drinks too. The food came out fast and plentiful and they kept bringing beers when they think you're almost done with your can. We spent about an hour and five beers later for me, I called it quits. No wall of empty beer cans for the gram from me. All of the foreign young adults came ordering the same special while the locals ordered off menu. It was definitely a fun experience. read more

However, I can guarantee you most locals have not heard of this place unless they had been with the expats or exchange students before. This place has moved from a little alley between Yau Ma Tei to now between Olympic and Mongkok and that only makes it even more easily assessable and better. So what is so special about this place? It has to be $60 all-you-can-eat and all-you-can-drink deal. Yup, you heard me right. Just 60 dollars and you can have the best time of your local experience here chugging Tsing Tau and if you are lucky enough, Mr. Wong may just give you one of his secret batch of wine or vodka. The funny thing about this place is they will serve you with authentic local Dai Pai Tong food if you are a local; yet if you are one of the expats, expect the Westernized Chinese food including the Chow Mien, spring rolls, fried dumplings, etc. The sanitary situation has much improved since the relocation; some may even miss the good old toilet there, now the toilet is located in the building next door on the second floor, this is a must-know since you will end up drinking a lot. Notice that the above may not apply to local diners, unless you are with bunch of expats and you can disguise yourself among them... Make sure you mingle with the famous Mr. Wong who had even run for an election in Hong Kong before, the friendliness and the hospitality of him is literally internationally well-known. Wow! This was a totally new experience in Hong Kong. After hearing rumors about this place we decided to come here with a big group of friends. We arrived around 9 pm and the place was packed both on the front and out back. Lovely Mr Wong himself set up a table for us out on the street and started small talking, curious about everyone. We ordered some big plates of food, some dishes were better than others. To be honest the food is not the central thing for this place. It's the happy, friendly atmosphere you get sucked into, having a 4.0% all you can drink Shenzhen beer with your friends while strangers bypassing look at you as you've lost your mind. read more

Scouring websites, the allure of Mr. Wong's brought me to Mong Kok. I heard about Mr. Wong's from a friend and that was where my journey began. On a Friday night, me and a group of 5 friends made it out to Mr. Wong's. If you're coming here for the food, you're better off staying home. What you come for is an experience. I knew that I had arrived when I peered into the shop and saw foreigners sitting at a table. My group was brought to the back of a restaurant into a makeshift alley. The first thing we were offered was beer. Unlimited Kingway beer that you can drink to your hearts content. Mr. Wong was busy, but not to busy to socialize. He came by out table and asked us where we were from. My group comprised of mainly Americans. He entertained us and made us laugh. He then offered to order for us and we gladly accepted. A few beers in and about 10 minutes after Mr. Wong visited us, a middle-aged man came by and out down a fried platter, broccoli dish, and fish dish (look at my photos). While it's not even close to the best Chinese food I've ever had, my group gladly dug in. Next came a beef and onion dish followed by more vegetables. The food really isn't the highlight of the night though. In the table next to us, there were a group of students from Tennessee and Spain and behind us there was a large group (20 ?) Of Australians. We had conversations with some of the tables and it was lovely to learn where everyone came from. Mr. Wong's made it feel like you we're living at a hostel. At the end of a long week, travelers we're all gathered to let loose and have a meal. There's nothing that offers the same price ($60 all you can eat and drink) or experience. The food is cheap and the beer is good and it is always a fun place to bring friends who are visiting, or with friends you're linking up with before a night out. Whilst the menu isn't in English, Mr. Wong speaks it and will cater for you, the place is normally full of students seeking a cheap way to start the night and as a result it often has a friendly atmosphere. The food does cater towards vegetarians if you ask for the dishes and there is a massive variety as I found from some of my Cantonese friends who ordered. We used this very own site to find a place for local food around our hotel in Mong Kok and found this great place. What a wonderful experience. Mr. Wong himself (so he says) sat us in the back alley and talked to us the whole time. The beer just kept coming and he chose food for us based on a few requests. We had a few great, large portion dishes. This is very much a local place with a smattering of tourists - we were seated beside a group of men enjoying their Sunday lunch out together. Mr. Wong's is the ideal place before a night out! Every time before my friends and I went out, we hit up Mr. Wong's for a variety of unlimited food & drinks!! It was pricey but worth every penny! There was fish, chicken, broccoli, beef, rice, dumplings, and other dishes I can't even begin to remember! Mr. Wong is a super nice guy and the service is nice given the busy restaurant. Of all the many visits I have made to Hong Kong, I am so surprised that I have never ever been to this place! Apparently, this is THE place to go for foreign exchange students and I am so happy that it's location is still known by "a lucky few." Mr. Wong's may appear to be rather sketchy on the outside, and there may be rumors circulating about the man himself, but the food is always good you can't beat the price for the amount of food you get. All you can eat and drink for only HKD60! That deal is pretty hard to beat especially in Hong Kong! About the food, you get lots and lots of food! Do not expect haute cuisine, just unlimited amounts of decent food and FREE beer! Also, if you arrive at the right time, Mr. Wong will come and have a chat with you. Hidden gem even amongst locals in HK who may not know that such a place exists. This place is mostly known by international students (because living in HK is expensive and students aren't legally allowed to work). I present you - $60 (or less than 10 USD) all you can eat and drink! Despite the food quality is on the ok side (But it's still good and tasty btw! And haven't been sick from it yet so its a good sign). I'll still give this place 5 stars because they managed to pull this off in one of the most expensive cities in the world and kept this place open for more than a couple of months. And of course you can easily drink your money's worth in beers without even touching much of the food if you wanted. Mr. Wong's has a reputation of being a hotspot for international students. You can tell that many local people don't know of or care for this place because it has almost no reviews on OpenRice (at both its old location and its new one) despite being in a major area like Mongkok. But international students seem to love this place. I actually found out about it because many European students I met while studying abroad in HK told me about it. The food here is typical Cantonese style food, and its known for having super cheap AYCE deals. You'll see lots of international students and tourists here with piles of cheap food and beer. Like Vince H. said in a previous review, you'll notice they tend to order more westernized food, but if you're Chinese/local you can still get food that are more authentic. Mr. Wong is quite a character as well. He LOVES talking to people from other countries, and he often sits down and chats with tables of foreigners in between serving people. I think he likes any opportunity he can get to speak English with others. That wasn't really the case with my party when we visited, since we ordered in Chinese, so he must have assumed we were locals. There are rumors that this place is a front for triad money laundering, and I wouldn't be surprised if those rumors were true, but you shouldn't have anything to worry about for yourself. And hey, if you're having a hard time with communication with restaurant staff (rude to you, no English menu, etc.), this is a very cheap way to get Chinese food without all that hassle. read more

Upon arrival they had a large party of about maybe 15 people or so. (Talk about bad timing) we decided to stick around and wait since it seemed to be the hot spot. We ended up being seated outside in the street with a fold up table and small chairs. The service was fast and the server who seemed to be doing most of the work was really nice. However, towards the end of our meal. There was a bit of a confusion with the guy cleaning up our table and the price of our bill. Long story short he yelled and kicked the stool next to our table. I had no idea what happened and how the whole incident came about, but we paid no attention to it and just brushed it off. After all that said and done I thought the food was decent and our experience probably would have been much more pleasant if it wasn't for bad timing and lack of space. read more
