We met friends for dinner and actually went to the wrong restaurant, for there is another Star of Canton just up the street at I Square too and we went there by accident. This restaurant has an expansive and striking view of the harbor, high ceilings, big glassy chandeliers and is very spacious. There is a stage and so much room that it seems like the appropriate spot to have a banquet or wedding. It is one of those large Chinese restaurants that serves a lot of people and thus the soft goods (carpet, chairs, linens, etc) seem warn and need updating. Although I did not do the ordering and did not pay the bill, in addition to special orders of hairy crabs at an additional cost, we had a set dinner with like 7 courses for around $400HKD (which seemed like a great value, knowing all the delicious food we had). The set included their highlighted dish of Braised Whole Japanese Oma Abalone, in addition to marinated sea cucumbers, shrimp, sticky rice, a great soup with bean curd on top and although small and at the very end, a seasame rice ball that was really spectacular & a party in your mouth. Found in 1998, Star of Canton insists the tradition of the canton dishes with less oil, less salt, no MSG and no artificial colour. I like that and it is a niche in a sea of Chinese restaurant options. We had a good experience and liked the ambiance of the place, so we would reccomend and absolutely go back.

We did not know it was a 2 star Michelin restaurant, and I was a bit apprehensive at the beginning, because we did not want to spend too much money on food on this trip. Upon our request, we were seated right in front of the Harbour view and were able to see the light show that start around 8pm. The most beautiful view of HK at night! We opted not to order the duck, which needs to be ordered 24 hour in advance and although I am sure quite delicious is quite pricy (HK$1,438+10%). Reservation in this place is a must! Highlights were the Wok-fried Wagyu with Green Peppers, Mushrooms and Garlic, Wok-seared Chicken Fillet with Lemon Sauce The server was so kind as to give us half servings so we could "sample" some of the more expensive items, add fried rice for substitution with the meat dishes and free desert. This flexibility in providing half portion and substitution is something i've rarely experience in a Michelin restaurant. Overall, we payed $US240 (1,900 Hong Kong Dollar) which includes the 10% service charge for two people for a michelin 2 star restaurant for an unforgettable meal! I did get some of the crispy rice on the bottom and it was delicious. My favorite thing about claypot is how flavorful the rice gets from soaking in all the meats or whatever toppings. The menu is impressive, I have never seen so many choices. I wish we had time to explore more of the other claypots like the razor clam with black bean sauce. Why is everything in HK so darn good!? She told me directions in Cantonese, and pointed off in the distance. The only thing I could remember was the name. I got lost entering the small alleyways but somehow found myself here. They had both English and Chinese menus and ordering was very easy with the waiters. Being the only foreigner amongst a restaurant full of Hong Kong locals, I knew I was in for a treat. The food was more than flavorful, my cousin (who basically found the place) told me that this was the "true and genuine" Hong Kong style fried rice.
