If you're going to come here and pay for their overpriced food and terrible service, be very picky about what you get! Some things are hype and and some things are just-for-hype, if you catch my drift. We got the flaming pineapple beef, squid ink fried rice, lotus sticky rice, and a ton of their cute buns. I ordered the pigeon too, but it came so late that I sent it back because we were too full. The items I think are worth getting: - squid ink fried rice: hands down the best dish we tried here. The baby octopus on top of the rice were the best - lotus sticky rice: but only if you're not getting the squid ink fried rice, or you're coming with a large group. Getting two rice dishes was pretty filling for two people! - truffle mushroom bun: it really looks like a mushroom! Lots of attention to detail. I thought the flavor was a little too intense for a bun filling and there's a loooot of dough for aesthetic reasons. But very cute! - charcoal bun: beautiful to look at, pretty good! A little sweet for my taste, but overall a solid dish. - flaming pineapple beef: it's a pineapple they briefly set on fire. It doesn't do anything to the actual dish and the flavor of the dish itself is pretty lacking. But there are so few protein options on the menu that I'd say this one is worth getting. Items I don't think are worth it: - Raspberry bun thing: it looked like cute berries but it tasted terrible. It comes with three and all have a little mint leaf on the top. Super syrupy and sweet, I'll pass. - Pig bun: cute, but too much dough and not enough red bean paste filling. - Rose bun: so pretty, but so much dough! The filling is only inside the very very center of the bun. The gold flakes taste disgusting. Lastly, I really wish they had brought the pigeon out sooner because I was too full to eat it and had to send it back.

When arriving, the place is on the second floor of the building, and it's super busy so there was a queue to take the elevator up (didn't know where the stairs were). Upon arrival there's a line as ppl with reservations are waiting. They were fully booked so they were turning away a lot of walk-ins. Takeout: you order in the way back but wait for your food at the front. It could be better labeled... or labeled at all lol. It's kinda of just chaotic. BUT let me tell you... These charcoal custard buns are so amazing. They are hot, eggy, sweet, melty goodness that come in a three pack. So obviously get more than one order. As for dim sum, it's fancier than other places so the price looked a bit higher, but you should at least get the buns. They will not disappoint.
Definitely one of my favorite restaurants in Hong Kong. The ambience is pleasant and every time that I have been here there is always a new selection of dishes on the menu. I love Social Place for its speciality dim sum. I make sure I stop by for a meal each time I am in Hong Kong The food here is tasty but not mind blowing, however they have incredible presentation skills which totally makes for an instagram-worthy meal. My staples are the truffle mushroom buns and custard buns. The beef served in a flaming pineapple was delicious too! The service though is really poor and the wait time is long. Still a nice place to visit if you are a tourist in Hong Kong!
Cutesy Yum Cha resturants have been popping up all over Hong Kong for quite some time now. While I prefer the classic brunch setting at a Chinese restaurant, I found this place unique. Bowls and plates with inked caricatures of flies and ants are a good laugh with family and friends. Do I always want my buns to look like piglets or trees? No. But it's a great place to bring friends who are visiting. What I do love about this place is the service. They're friendly and the waiters don't seem to pressure you to order more food or drinks - unlike other resturants nearby. Side Note: They serve those delicious Pork Bao-buns! They're a bit doughy and big for me... but think of the insta-pics!

SOOO GOOD. This place is located on the 2F of the building and can be gotten to either by elevator or stairs. We took the stairs bc the elevators were taking forever! Def a bougie looking dim sum spot, and our worry about a cutesy bun was that it wasn't gonna taste good. But we were delightfully incorrect! Each order comes with 3 buns, so with our group of four, we ordered 2. So warm. So delicious. So gooey. Ah. Loved it. 5 stars.

But the food was good, atmosphere cool & prices $120 for my share at lunch. There are printed ants at the bottom of the bowls & the waiter promised to brush them away next time.
Met a friend who was visiting from out of town here and we both had a delicious brunch before heading out to explore HK. Social Place definitely lives up to its name as it is always bustling, but service keeps up with the crowd. The menu has a great selection of traditional and elevated dim sum, making it a special dim sum brunch experience.
Cool restaurant with innovative dishes! My favourite dishes on the menu were the charcoal egg custard buns with a nice runny filling and the truffle mushroom buns which actually looked like steamed shiitake mushrooms. My table also ordered the roasted pigeon which had a nice, crispy skin. Prices are higher than most dim sum places. Overall, I had a great meal and would go again to try their other dishes.

They have mango jelly which looks like egg yolk! These dishes were more expensive than the normal dimsum as well!
Had low expectations and was pleasantly surprised. A new take on Cantonese food in Central. Food: 4 out of 5 Ambiance: 4 out of 5 Service: 3 out of 5 Value: 3.5 out of 5 First off, the food is nicely presented. A simple dish like thousand year old egg and tofu is transformed into a pretty dish. That's pretty friggin impressive. We ordered a bunch of dishes including their signature dishes. None of the dishes were amazing, but they were all tasty and consistent. Also, they were all nicely plated and presented. This makes this place a perfect first date place. It's not too loud, the decor is nice and the food is tasty.
I don't regret coming but probably won't return. It is more like a one time experience at the price point. I completely dismissed this restaurant originally when I saw the gimmicky presentations, but some dishes offer a playful interpretation. Should try: Roast Pigeon was cooked perfectly. Succulent and juicy. They offer gloves which is a fantastic idea to eat the small bird. Beef char siu was tender and had good flavor and char texture. The thyme was decorative but added a nice scent. Interesting: Mangosten fritter is more for the look but also had a nice crab lobster sauce filling. Meh: Charcoal Buns were sweet and savory but does not taste different from the traditional version Sponge Xiao Lung Biao- Normally I love this dish but the change up here did not do anything for me. I wasn't too impressed by the filling nor the skin. If you are new to or want traditional dim sum go elsewhere. Also I didn't really order from the dinner style selections. Glad I didn't because they are small portions and didn't look that novel. If you are like me and had dim sum countless number of times, it is fun to try things with a twist. The woman next to me kept admiring how the food was presented. Look for the L signage and go to the second floor. Casual clean open dining room. Came here the other day for lunch. I've actually seen this place around on social media so it is not like I am completely unaware of it. However, just never had the chance to come. The place is fairly large actually, at least for a second floor restaurant? While there were a lot of people here, there was also a fair bit of seating. The service staff is pretty good, don't have any complaints here. The food aspect is quite interesting here. They have a lot of new stuff, which includes new takes on classic items, as well as new things that they invented themselves. I believe that some of these are quite similar to other things that people have experimented with, but it's no less welcome to see it. However, I wasn't a huge fan of the food overall. We got some stuff like pork puff pastries, the vegetarian siu mai (which sadly is not that great, but whatever), claims in chinese medicine soup (which was pretty gross), the truffle chicken, a few small dishes. Overall, I think they are trying a bit too hard to mess with things that are already quite decent. I appreciate the experimentation, but it's probably not for me. read more
I was pleasantly surprised by this restaurant @socialplacehk I'm usually more about the basics: flavour and execution. I usually don't care for these gimmicky restaurants but I was impressed with the level of creativeness and the technique that went into making their dishes. The flavour of the dishes was decent but nothing amazing. The char siu was excellent. It was tender and juicy, falling apart in my mouth. I come here on Sundays. They do accept reservations but I usually show up without a reservation around 11 am. They have seated us each time but have told us that we need to leave by a certain time to accommodate those who have a reservation. Usually they give us 1.5 hours to eat which is more than enough time. On to the food... This is supposed to be Dim Sum but it's more of a fusion type of thing. It's FANCY DIMSUM! I was craving "Cha Sew Bao" (apologies with the spelling) but they told me they don't serve that kind of dim sum. Welll....OK! But I did enjoy the food! "Quality you can taste!" Tried this place for the first time over a Thursday lunch. Me and my troops wanted to yum cha but everything in central was fully booked. I called and made reservations at 11 and managed to get tables at 12! I would highly recommend to book before going because it seems the place is a full house by lunch ! On first impression, the decoration and atmosphere reminds me a lot of " the dinning room " which makes me wonder if the same owner opened it. Excellent decor and concept. A warm and inviting Chinese place that is presentable for business lunches and out of town guests. Love the ping pong table in the middle of the restaurant. The Food: No MSG and rice oil is their selling point. The food was pretty tasty. We ordered: Vinegar & Sesame Noodles- very tasty however I would have enjoyed more of a sesame flavour vs. Vinegar. Truffle Shiitake Buns- genius. Shaped like a shiitake mushroom open it up and it oozes mushroom and truffle goodness all wrapped in a pillow of chewy bao. Truly innovative and a highlight- will be a hit here. Spicy Wontons- the sauce was great however the filling lacked any sort of flavour. They needed to add some salt. Organic Soy Milk- the waitress insisted that we tried their organic soy milk. It was just ok. Overall, I would love to try more dishes as this place did not leave me heavy and lethargic- and a bonus is they deliver to Central and Mid Levels. Score! Well done. read more

Yet another brand new restaurant here on 2/F of the L Place. I came here for dinner for the first time on their third day of business. It was a Wednesday night and there were only about 5 tables that were occupied in the whole restaurant. My friend and I looked at the menu and wanted to order everything on the menu because the photos of their dishes all looked so tempting. We ended up ordering the turnip cake, drunken chicken, steamed pork cake with egg yolk, roast baby pigeon, double-boiled soup for 2 and some vegetable rice. It was certainly quite a big meal for just the two of us. I liked how their dishes were of small portions and the price was very reasonable. The only dish that we didn't like was the steamed pork cake and the rest were quite tasty given they do not use MSG. As if the two of us didn't have enough, we even ordered two more sweet items to share. Again, we were temped by the lovely photo on the menu of the egg custard buns (with the "vehicle", "horse" & "canon" Chinese characters) and decided to give it a try. Well, the real one didn't look quite as cute and they tasted ok just like any ordinary egg custard buns. Based on my first experience, I would have given it 4 stars. Two weeks later, I decided to come here again for lunch on a Sunday. This time the restaurant was packed but we didn't have to wait for long for a table. Food was still great. However, the service was terrible as there were simply not enough staff to handle all the customers. We waited for half an hour until the first dish came. Everything came out so slowly and the poor couple sitting next to us waited for even longer until they realized their orders weren't even in the system and the waiter had to reorder for them. One of our dishes still did not arrive until almost an hour after we ordered. I mean it was some chilled chicken that should be brought from the fridge... where was it?? We chased different waiters for a few times and the staff just re-ordered it and gave us a newly printed order list... then it came out in 2 minutes. Overall, the food at Social Place is all good. I hope the management will work hard on their operations as soon as possible and make sure all the customers are getting the service that they deserve. Apparently, the turnover rate for 2/F L Place is quite high since the building first opened a few years ago... I hope Social Place will not follow the fate that the previous restaurants had. read more
Cute stop for a quick lunch. Service is a bit slow but to be fair it's Sunday and crazy busy. Waited between courses for a long while and a couple items were missed on the order sheet. Aside from that the food was fairly good. I highly recommend the Chinese Pancake and to see them order one of the pork bean buns. Fun little addition to the meal. Likely better during a weekday but overall wasn't too impressed. read more

Been to Social Place a few times during weekend lunch time and never waited too long for seating. One of the things I like about this place, other than a consistent quality of their food, is that we usually get seated fairly quickly because the restaurant is very large. They serve a healthy contemporary take on traditional dim sum and many of their dishes are visually quirky, like the flies painted in their bowls to shiitake filled buns made to look like mushrooms. Adds to the atmosphere. My favorite starter is the nice, refreshing pickled cucumber rolls. Some of my other go to orders are spicy 1K year old duck eggs, seared Chinese pancakes, truffle shiitake buns, and dan dan noodles + chicken chop combo. Also had the various dumplings, some of the desserts, the pork belly slider. All decent to try at least once. read more
This place has really cute dimsum! But it is a tad pricy for the quality of dimsum as I think there are plenty of other places with much tastier and cheaper dimsum like Timhowan! However, the presentation here gets an A+! I am personally not a big fan of truffles, but I must admit that the truffle buns are a must get here as they are so well made! The buns look like actual mushrooms! The rose red bean buns are also pretty good if you don't mind the rose fragrance too much! I think the best dish I had here was probably the Bao! It came with a huge piece of pork belly and the flavoring was sweet and salty! I just wish they added more peanut flavoring like the authentic Taiwanese ones. Overall an ok dimsum place. read more

I was pleasantly surprised with this place. While visiting Hong Kong, we came here for lunch. My cousin who spoke Cantonese made reservations for 4 people and we were seated very quickly. The menu was in English and Chinese so it made it easier for us to order. The food was tasty and the service was better than other Hong Kong eateries. We really enjoyed the pork belly sliders, the turnip cake, and the truffle mushroom buns. The food was great and the decor was very quirky and clean. The must eats are truffle mushroom buns, the pork belly sliders, and the drunken chicken. This place is yummy and worth a try. Make reservations for faster seating! read more
I really like this place. No queue, polite servers, brilliant food. Their roast pigeon is great, as most of the time all you get are bones. The pigeon here is very meaty, hot, and juicy!!! Immediately wanted to come back and have more pigeon!! They have happy hour where you get half price alcohol. Yay! Lastly their Buns are really good. Had the rose bun which had really pretty presentation, and a slight rose fragrance. Mmmm!!! They also have one ping pong table for dining on, how cool! And sometimes your eating utensils (ie bowls) may have ant or bugs prints on it. Kooky. Note: the piggy Buns are only available on Sundays. They also do dim sum. read more

Social place Good chill out place for youth This is a fusion place for canton dish and western. Similar to "yum cha" Food pick - truffle shiitake bun ( honestly the most suprise dish , this bun is supper yummy. I'm amused by this cross-over of truffle & Chinese bun, which are surprisingly perfect match. It looks great and photo lover will like it too) - fried pigeon ( must try signature item, I don't think I need to talk more on this ) Other dishes are above market standard but not a big jump from there. I'd say try the above 2 then get your normal pick would be good enough Price range : $30- $40 read more
The food tasted okay but one more star for the great decor and atmosphere. I ordered a combo with drunk chicken, roasted eggplant and fun pei. The portion was pretty small and the food tasted average. The chicken came without bones though, which was great. I also got the noodles with crabmeat, which was better than the rest of the food. The texture was quite soft but the crabmeat wasn't that flavorful. Still pretty good! I think the buns are more famous because they come in cute and creative shapes so give that a try! Reasonable pricing around central area but there could be better alternatives around the neighborhood. read more
Came here on a Monday night- it was busy but got seated right away. Ordered the floral rice in lotus wrap, eggs (ain't) that simple, dragon beard kale (ginger) and mung bean buns. Everything was so delicious!! I'd highly recommend the eggs (ain't) that simple and the mung bean buns because they are such unique and tasty dishes!! read more

It's always nice to have a reasonable price Chinese restaurant to go to. And yet the food here is slightly modified Chinese fusion, you get surprises here and there. Aside from that however, the service here can improve a bit. read more

Hip dim sum place that's pretty fun to hangout with friends. We were four and it's always better to go as group so you can try different dim sum and share. The tofu with pickles eggs is one of the best, the taste and display is wonderful. Buns with different shapes are fun but the taste is standard. My fav dish on the day is the custard bun. It's worth getting! Although it's not like the traditional tea house but i really enjoyed the vibe! read more

Dim sum places with a modern twist has been popping up like new grass after rain. This place is centered in TST district, and had a nice modern European decor that reminds me of British tea time and Tiffanys furniture. The service and wait staff were pretty good and responsive to various requests, and the wait itself to get in to eat was about 15-20 minutes, so best to call ahead to reserve (still have to wait when you reserve, especially on weekends). As for the food, they have traditional dim sum (shrimp dumplings, pork buns, etc.), as well as modern new items like a mushroom shaped bun with mushroom filling, and a bunch of Northern China items. Overall the food was pretty good, although the price was more on the higher end for dim sum probably because of location and decor. I am more of a traditional decor and food guy, so that is why I give this place 4 stars, but thats just me as I am sure there are plenty of 5 star reviews for this place. read more
