I had the squash congee 南瓜瘦肉粥 and it was just what I needed after days of non-stop, not to mention unhealthy, eating. Dip some Chinese donuts in it and add a side of noodles and you've got yourself a HK-style breakfast. The congee is served quite plain so that you can personalize it to your liking (soy sauce, sesame oil, hot sauce etc). What stood out the most was the liver rice noodle 豬潤腸粉. OMFG so good; you can't get fresh pork liver like that in the states. The liver is so fresh all you taste is sweetness and no iron! I'd definitely eat that dish everyday if I could. P.S some days they sell limited congee flavor or overall congee bowls because the chef is old.

The bathroom was also super weird, narrow and awkward and so dark that you can't see anything. Of the 2 stalls only one of them had toilet paper in a little roll that wasn't even properly attached to the toilet paper holder. The overall vibe is loud, "club-like," and kind of ratchet, there was a table quite far away from us but the customers were so clearly drunk and loud that the entire restaurant could hear them. We haven't even gotten to the food-- which was below average all around. We had pre-ordered the typhoon crab in advance and it was very expensive, was so over-seasoned, and the crab was not fresh at all. The bbq roast pork (char siu) was okay but incredibly oily and we couldn't finish it. The only passable entree was the fish, but even that was just a steamed fish and nothing to write home about. The service was okay, nothing spectacular but polite enough. The other nice thing was that we got these cute little mah jong desserts and I liked that the outside wall of the restaurant was decorated in mah jong pieces. But overall, this restaurant was my least favorite during our Hong Kong trip and it's just overhyped.

Service is friendly and relatively efficient. But for this price point and the coveted Michelin star, I would expect more. The food quality is so-so. The chicken wings were tender but lacking in depth of flavor. Just salt and a ton of chili peppers. The char shu roasted pork was ok. It wasn't as greasy as others but it was also a bit dry. It was really no better than any other roasted pork we found at random restaurants all over HK. The crispy cheong fan noodles were a bit greasy but flavorful and different. Let's talk about pricing. We went on a Sunday night and we booked early so we did not have a minimum spend. But it seems any bookings now have an 800HKD/pp minimum. They slap a 10% service charge on everything and they basically require you to buy an 88HKD bottle of water. Sorry, they're just not that good.

Food: The food tastes okay, but there is a wide variety of dishes you may choose from, including dim sum, fried dishes, vegetables, and roast meats. Tip: Arrive by 10am to have a decent selection of dim sum. Otherwise, you would need to line up and pick up whatever dim sum comes out, versus gradually going through the baskets and picking what you want when you show up earlier. We did not know it was a 2 star Michelin restaurant, and I was a bit apprehensive at the beginning, because we did not want to spend too much money on food on this trip. Upon our request, we were seated right in front of the Harbour view and were able to see the light show that start around 8pm. The most beautiful view of HK at night! We opted not to order the duck, which needs to be ordered 24 hour in advance and although I am sure quite delicious is quite pricy (HK$1,438+10%). Reservation in this place is a must! Highlights were the Wok-fried Wagyu with Green Peppers, Mushrooms and Garlic, Wok-seared Chicken Fillet with Lemon Sauce The server was so kind as to give us half servings so we could "sample" some of the more expensive items, add fried rice for substitution with the meat dishes and free desert. This flexibility in providing half portion and substitution is something i've rarely experience in a Michelin restaurant. Overall, we payed $US240 (1,900 Hong Kong Dollar) which includes the 10% service charge for two people for a michelin 2 star restaurant for an unforgettable meal! If I return to HK, I will definitely come back and try their dim sum.

The goose is roasted to a golden color. You can order it whole, or half, or a quarter. It literally melts in your mouth and the meat is very tender and juicy; I'm sure you'd want to reach for another piece before you finish the one. If you are adventurous enough, try their goose intestines with soy sauce. I know it sounds gross but try it with open mind and you'll be surprised. There're many other traditional Cantonese dishes and just order away because it's very affordable and tasty.

The staff is very rushed with the volume of customers to the degree of being rude. The staff is very gossipy and will talk of customers that they feel not understand in the area. They will also rush you out once you put down your chopsticks to get the next round of customers in... definitely not a relaxing environment for a family meal or date night. The area has the nostalgic feel as there has been very little renovations to update the feel. The seating is spacious but does fill up quickly with the volumes of tourists looking to sample their goods. We ordered a few dishes but the main star - Roast goose fell flat on its face. The goose was DRY and very tough (read - chewy). There was very little taste even with the generous duck Au jus on the plate. For all the hype, I am not really sure what I was supposed to ooh and ahh about... I will give them credit of crispy skin... but I am not here for Peking duck. Food was disgusting and overpriced, no decoration whatsoever, uncomfortable seating, bad location, etc. My mom and I tried maybe 3 or 4 bites of the dim sum and decided we would no longer order anymore even though we were not full yet. There are so many restaurants out there even within the shopping plaza, why stuff ourselves with bad dim sum!? We only have a limited capacity for calorie intake as women who still want to fit in the clothes we bought! Anyhow, how bad you might ask. Honestly, dim sum is not hard to screw up since most things are deep fried, and deep fried food is rarely bad (taste-wise, health-wise is another story). Yet, they skillfully managed to screw up deep-fried food! It was greasy and was lack of flavor. The steamed dim sum either had a wrapping that was too thick or was too think that it would fall apart when you tried to pick up with your chopsticks. I was going there hopeful, I remember, as I had been craving for dim sum for a while. After trying about 3 types of dim sum that was ordered by other people at the table, I didn't even want to order my own. I tried one of each type of dim sum and almost everything was just disappointing. The only thing that was decent enough to eat was the deep-fried donut wrapped in rice paper 炸兩. Service was actually okay, for HK standard. They were quite attentive to clear out the dishes on the table and were helpful to bring us anything we needed. The restaurant was not easy to find. First of all, the shopping plaza has a weird layout where there are many blind corners and intersections like a maze. Come on, CRC, you gotta stop building bad architecture! The restaurant was located deep into one end of the shopping plaza. After 3 left turns and 4 right turns, maybe you can find it. The decor and type of booth seating was similar to the HK fast food restaurants. You feel like you're eating at a HK style fast food but you're charged prices like you're dining in a Maxim's restaurant. My mom whispered in my ear 1/5 into our meal, "Daughter, this place sucks. Terrible and expensive. Never coming back." LOL! I feel the same way about this place, mom.

This place is so famous we saw people come straight from the airport with all their luggage! Portions are very good and probably too small for most people but I loved the size. Goose and Soy Sauce Chicken: They are most known for their roast goose which has a complex and layered seasoning different than other HK roast duck/goose places. This location is inside the New Town Mall in Tsuen Wan, on the 2nd floor. The restaurant is not big, but enough for everyone to sit comfortably. To save space, all of the utensils are inside the drawers of each table. So if you don't know where they are, now you know. As a Cantonese cafe, you pay at the front of the restaurant before you leave. The price point is a little higher than regular local cafes, but still cheaper than Tsui Wah. Also, the quality of food does match the price that you are paying. So it's quite fair. Some of my favorite dishes, BBQ Pork and Roasted Duck combo, Soy Sauce Chicken, and Sweet and Sour Pork. I suggest ordering a combo since it comes with soup or drink, a side of rice, and a side of veggie. Since Hong Kong has lots of British influence, the afternoon tea option almost exist anywhere. At Tai Hing, the dishes are at a discounted price during afternoon tea time, which is around 2:30 to 5pm. My tip to you, go during afternoon tea time for a discount, but just go anytime to try it out. I know I will again.
