Visited Des Moines during a recent business trip. Picked this place because of the 4 star ratings on Yelp and the proximity to our hotel. Seems there was just one gal (very friendly and pleasant) working the entire restaurant. We had the Tom Kha Gai (Coconut Milk Soup) which was very good. Split an entree of Green Cury with chicken. Food was great! The fact that they take AMEX was a plus! I would definitely eat there again if I'm ever in Des Moines. :) read more

Great food. Good prices. Lots of different curry options if that's your thing. I just go for the pad Thai, but it's very tasty here. We go for lunch. Not super quick, but it's worth the wait. Feeling under the weather with zero desire to cook. I wanted some spicy Thai...but did not want Cool Basil. I came across Zuzap and decided to give it a try. So glad I did!! I ordered a curry dish called Kaw Soi. It is a fragrant yellow curry (meat choice was chicken) with fresh red onion slices, lime and cilantro. It came with noodles both steamed and crispy. I did the dinner so it came with a spring roll and choice of soup. I selected the won ton. It was also very good. I did try their shrimp "rangoons"....nothing special...needed more cream cheese, however they were tasty and the dipping sauce was a citrus flavored type. I'm pretty much sold on Zuzap! read more

I was sick of hamburgers and sandwiches and gas station fried chicken.. yes, fresh fried chicken at gas stations, thank you midwest you almost make me want to drive cross country for the fun of it, and I settled at the local La Quinta Inn and Zuzap delivered as ordered to me. This is easily one of the best Thai restaurants in Iowa. It happens to be our work groups favorite out of the ~10 Thai joints in the Des Moines area. Most of the lower reviews are for the same reason....timing/service/length of stay, etc. If you hit a peak window in the day you will have to wait a bit for your food. If you're able to schedule around those times or have time to have a bit of a longer lunch then this is for you. I've eaten lunch here about 100 times and have yet to eat dinner (wife does not like this genre of food) so I can only comment on lunch. I'd HIGHLY recommend the Tum Yum soup and any of their Curry dishes (especially red curry with rice noodle.) If you're not a curry fan I'd try the basil if that's your thing as well. I went here with a group of friends that had recommended this place. I have not had a lot of Thai food in the past so I was hesitant to try it, but I am glad I did. I ordered the Pad See Ew with Chicken and a spicy level of 2. It came with rice noodles, sweet brown sauce, carrots, broccoli, and was the perfect level of spice. I went during a busy time of day so it did take a while to get our food, but it was definitely worth the wait! I'm from the bay area (SF) and we get really good and cheap Thai food. This place pales in comparison. But hey, I'm in Des Moines... and I must say this place comes closest to bay area standards for asian cuisine. If you're traveling with Indian colleagues, like I was, you must take them here and make them try the Tom Yum Soup. They may also like the music over the PA (more than one Indian colleague said the music was that of their childhood...). Our pot stickers were ok but tasted frozen. My tom yum soup was nicely spicy but tasted like they just warmed it up and it needed to cook longer. One of our noodle dishes was served with spaghetti, which we were not expecting. All noodle choices were offered on the menu but the waitress never asked. I ordered basil (Pad Ka Phrao) chicken for lunch takeout. When I got home I found my meal and my rice were not in separate containers, as I believed to be the standard, but were all mixed together. I found this completely gross. My food was sprayed with lemon and was without the standard fried egg. It was obvious that my meal consisted of mostly rice with little meat or vegetables. There was literally 4 pieces of meat in my meal and a countable number of vegetables. It appeared that my meal was not prepared when I ordered it. It looked as if I was given whatever was left at the end of the lunch. It was completely disgusting & threw it away. My husband and I have enjoyed eating a couple of times but it seems to be hit or miss as far as the quality and service are concerned. I am profoundly disappointed at my last experience. The quality has been so spotty that I've been disappointed more times than not and we've stopped coming in as we use to. Now when we do come in the quality seems to continually be going down. I think I've tried them all, and Zuzap wins the prize for best Thai restaurant in the metro. The Choo Chee and Khao Soy are superb. I've tried other items - which are very good - but I keep coming back to these two. I can't say enough about the staff. They are attentive to your needs and my water glass is rarely empty. Avoid dishes with chicken. It's a shame. I'm guessing they're cutting and cooking the chicken the day before, then leaving it in a refrigerator exposed to air overnight to get that awful taste. When preparing a dish, they toss yesterday's cold, bad tasting chicken in as part of finishing the dish along with the garnish so it doesn't have a chance to come up to temperature or pick up any flavor from the dish. There's nothing wrong with using yesterday's chicken as long as it's stored in a container with the air vacuumed out so it won't oxidize. read more

I often order their food for to go, and its always great. One day, me and my siblings came to eat here. The door wasn't open so I called them to open the door right at 5:10. I also heard the two ladies arguing about the door being closed.So we came in to sat down, the lady who served us doesn't look happy. No greetings and shes chewing gum!!!. When I came to Zuzap, I was pleasantly surprised. Honestly, I wasn't expecting much from the small Thai restaurant. I had the Crab Rangoon as a appetizer.They were very good, nice and crunchy on the outside, but soft on the inside and not too greasy. Next, I ordered the Zuzap special noodle, which is unique to the restaurant. It is stir fried wheat noodles with vegetables with your choice of meat (I chose chicken) with seasoning and Thai style soy sauce. The noodles were nicely done, and were very tasty. I had no problem eating them all. Also, when I ordered, the waitress asked me on a scale of 1 to 10 of how hot I wanted the dish. i am nit a big fan of spicy foods, but this would be a big plus for anyone who likes their food spicy. I have ordered to go here quite a few times. When I dine in I usually don't have any issues. But ordering to go is problematic if I order a side of eggs rolls they have forgotten the egg rolls more than once. I am wiling to over look this because I am an easy going guy. However today I ordered to go for 6 people. Pickup it up and as I handed out the meals I found they completely forgot one. So I when back to the restaurant to rectify the issue and the server there told me she packed it and called me a liar. Is made is quite upset. Even when I ask to just get me another one and I will pay for it they said it would be another 30 minutes! They would not even rush it for me. We went to Zuzap hearing it was the best Thai food in town and recently moving from Chicago I was looking for my new go to Thai place. When we arrived there was a large table of maybe 15 people and only one server so needless to say we were waiting a long time. After we finally got someone to take our order it took a good 30 min just to get our drinks. The apps were very good we had the shrimp rangoon and spring rolls both of which were tasty and very fresh. The big problems came when the main courses arrived. First I like my food very spicy so ordered the 4 or 5 and when it came out it had absolutely zero spice to it. In fact one of the people in my party ordered a level 3 and hers tasted the same as mine which was not spicy at all. The biggest issue was when my wife went to take her first bite of foot and sitting on top was a beautiful fly sitting on top of her Pad Thai. When we grabed the waitress (who mind you was still the only one working even though 4 more tables had arrived in addition to the 15 person table) and showed her. She was very apologetic but as she walked away said dont worry we wont just take it off and give you the same dish which kind of weirded out my wife. The owner did bring out a new one (we hope it was new) and just kind of threw it down without saying sorry for the fly or acknowledging the situation at all. The bill came and everything was still full price on there and not saying that we deserved something for free but a free app maybe would have made up for the shitty service and fly garnish just a little. That being said the food was good but their customer service needs a whole lot of work. On a side note, the crappy service was by no means the servers fault as they were grossly understaffed and fell more onto the owners in my opinion. read more

The food here is certainly great and they'll make it spicy for you. I like the lunchtime options with the appetizers and soup, which is a great deal. The reason I give three stars however is because of service and length of time it took to get our orders. The last two times I've come here (both during lunchtime), I've felt like I was inconveniencing my server by having her taking my order - particularly on this occasion, her responses to us seemed almost rude. Today in particular, my party of 3 came in, was seated, and waited about 15 minutes to have our order taken - during which time we watched at least 3 other parties come in, be seated, order, and receive their appetizers by our server. Once we ordered, we waited another 40 minutes - watched those other tables receive and eat their entrees. Finally, we asked to have our meals changed to To-Go since we were coming up on an hour and needed to get back to work. The server seemed annoyed at this and, while we paid for our meals, she even told us that we shouldn't go there expecting a quick lunch (we had 2 orders of sesame chicken and 1 order of fried rice). So glad to discover Thai food near our hotel thanks to Yelpers who steered us here. This is the best Thai I've found anywhere and we've tried several in Denver. Chicken with vegetables & rice suited hubs just fine. I enjoyed the Royal Noodles with chicken which was a bit sweeter than I expected, but still yummy good. We'll return when we get back to Des Moines, but it's a long drive from Denver so please keep it alive until we can return next year. Pleasant decor added to the experience and friendly service. A little tricky to find positioned in the back tier of a strip mall behind a larger restaurant, but Google maps has it right. read more
