This restaurant and bar is located in the Marriott where I stayed. I didn't expect much from a hotel restaurant but they really delivered. So I ate here three times so I think I got a good sense of the place. Highlights - Get here during happy hour (4-6). Excellent drink specials and 1/2 off appetizers, at least those were the specials when I was there. - The flatbreads are pretty good. Thin, cracker type crust. Lots of toppings to select from. - The wings were damn good. - Artichoke dip was great - Nice draft beer selection including local beers on tap - Bartenders were great. Very friendly and knowledgeable My experience was at lunch and dinner. Not sure about the breakfast. I would recommend Two Rivers Grille, especially if you are staying at the hotel. read more

After checking out the menus of the participating restaurants for Restaurant Week, we decided to try Two Rivers Grille first. I also invited a couple of our friends to join us. Several years ago we stayed at Marriott for a few days before moving to the area. Since then we have not been back. As we walked into the lobby I immediately noticed the place looked totally different than I remembered. I thought it was nicely decorated and the dining area looked bright and open. It was about 5:15pm Friday evening and the dining room was totally empty. I called ahead just in case they were busy. When we arrived we were promptly seated in a booth. Three of us ordered the three course dinner 'prix fixe' meal and one person ordered from the menu. After placing our order we were served warm slices of a few different kinds of bread with butter, olive spread, and a mixture of vinegar and olive oil. The bread was delicious. For the first course each of us ordered a different dish: lump crab gazpacho, beet salad, and fresh baby mozzarella bruschetta. My crab gazpacho had no crab flavor and I did not care for the taste. My husband liked his beet salad and our friend liked his bruschetta. For the main course the two of us ordered bistro tender de burgo and the other ordered apple braised pork short rib. The tenderloin came with steamed broccoli and mashed potatoes. The meat was very tender and delicious. I took a bite of my husband's pork rib and it was a little dry for my taste but he liked it. The three of us each ordered different desserts: mini molten chocolate, mini crime brûlée, and mini lemon basil cheese cake. The desserts were okay. The creme brûlée did not taste anything close to it, it tasted more like a flan. Service was excellent. We all liked the atmosphere of the restaurant and would like to come back for breakfast (buffet) sometime. read more

This meal was definitely not worth half of what we payed for it. The buffet was what we had for breakfast, and none of the food items in the dishes were warm, let alone tasty. The potatoes were way over-seasoned, and the bacon was really hard to chew. One decent thing I had was a waffle, but only because it was fresh, same goes for the omelet my mother had. Ate at the hotel to catch up on work. I got the cheeseburger with fries and an IPA. Cheeseburger was bland, fries were ok and a decent IPA is $8+. Not worth it. read more

Stayed in the Marriott with 2 colleagues for business and chose to eat here in the hotel over Flemings - BIG mistake. The dining room was dark at 6 pm and we were told it wouldn't open due to lack of staff and we'd need to eat in the bar. But we wanted to try some good Iowa steak and the hotel was convenient since we had work to do. Each of us ordered a steak and described in detail how we liked it cooked. All 3 steaks were over cooked and tough. We had to send all 3 back. The next round was fine and they did credit our bill for some money. Service was friendly and sincere, but the quality of the experience was disappointing, especially when we could've gone to a highly recommended steakhouse instead. read more

This restaurant is in the first floor of a hotel. We went down to grab some breakfast thinking they had a pretty good looking menu. The food was okay, not entirely worth the money we paid for. The restaurant was also a little busy so the service wasn't the greatest. I wouldn't recommend it for the price and especially since the food wasn't worth it :( read more

First off the rude over weight bar manager has no business in the service industry. If you're planning on going here STOP and read this! On Christmas Eve a couple friends came to visit me at the Marriott. We decided to have a drink at the bar. I took my service dog into the lounge and was told to leave after I was sitting down. No please or being polite was expressed by the slow-moving bar boss. Feeling like I'm not a part of society because of my disability is a terrible feeling. We decided to move to another table outside the lounge area. The service from the waitress started out awesome.. then we sat.. and sat... I had the hotel manager address the problem twice. To make a long story short the service was terrible and the attitude the bar manager had seems like she has something outside of work on her mind. I'm a Marriott member and prefer staying at this hotel when I travel. However, when I come back to Des Moines I will stay downtown. Being disrespectful to your guests will never help a business. Westdsm marriott might as well not have a restaurant or bar. The food is overpriced and lackluster. read more

Went for Mother's Day brunch. We all left feeling like we had been ripped off. For what we paid (double their usual brunch buffet price) there was very few choices, nothing outstanding and very few options for kids. Items that were advertised (omelette bar and waffles) just weren't there. We were also seated in a closed off ballroom (even through the restaurant area was nearly empty) with another large party, which was just awkward. Took a very long time to get drinks and no refills. (Drinks were no included which was shocking for the price). Then we get hit with 20% gratuity after the waitress only served us drinks once. I will not recommend this restaurant or hotel after leaving with a pretty bad taste in our mouths. read more

Went to the Two Rivers Bar in the Marriott Hotel after an evening at state wrestling to have a light bite so we ordered the house chips and dip which were very good but we also ordered the Shrimp Rangoon flatbread, and that was to die for. On the road from Colorado to Wisconsin, after traveling all day with 3 kids, under 6 years old, we were hungry and exhausted. Candice was our server and she was GREAT! Best server we've had in years! The food was good, huge portions! We had the spinach and artichoke dip as an appetizer and it was delicious! They had local tap beer that was really good.
