Came here for a large party (over 20) and it was amazing!! I'm only going to comment on my meal (but everyone in the party ALL enjoyed their meal & service) so with that being said: we came here for a party of over 20 and our service was top notch! No one waited longer for their meal or appetizer and everyone got their drinks and dinner accordingly. I ordered the bacon wrapped shrimp (not pictured) and it was a perfectly balanced salty sweet mix with the pineapple/mango salsa. The special was a 6oz steak Oscar style w a crab cake and that was a show stopper!! The crab cake was AMAZING: perfectly fried and seasoned were it wasn't fishy and overly seasoned with crumbled so you can taste the crab and aioli - it is a MUST! My steak was cooked perfectly (medium) and seasoned so you got that delicious melt in your mouth steak. Our waitress & waiter was amazing for serving such a large group and they didn't make us feel rushed to order and checked up on us. Highlight of the night was the owners & staff signing a card on our new journey & bday celebration to give us a special touch for the night. I HIGHLY recommend for large party cause they definitely made sure we were taken care of and the food was top notch!

    Oscar Style Chilean Sea Bass

This is my second time coming to this restaurant. The first time was end of February, where I tried their Oscar style Chilean Sea Bass, their Philly Steak and Cheese soup with their house salad with homemade ranch dressing. The Chilean Sea Bass was cooked to perfection, the lump crab meat, chef's kiss! All paired superbly with a white wine. If that wasn't enough, I somehow made room for dessert. You have to try their Créme Brûlée Flight. It comes with vanilla, chocolate, strawberry and espresso! I came in ready to eat. The staff here are extremely welcoming, accommodating and friendly. Josh (at the bar) took care of me then and tonight. Tonight's menu consisted of an 8oz Filet, medium rare, Oscar style steak. It comes with asparagus. I ordered a premium side of Gouda Hashbrowns and loaded them with mozzarella, Monterey Jack cheese and bacon. A house salad of course, to keep my figure right and dessert. A strawberry cheesecake. Josh remembered me from February! Top tier service! I hope I don't make this a habit, I'll definitely be back!

    Steak lobster shrimp lunch special

We went to Filet for lunch and it was the best lunch experience I've had in a long time. They had a special for $24.99 steak, shrimp and lobster! It came with 2 sides. I got the mashed potatoes and side salad. It also came with a warm loaf of bread. My steak and lobster were delicious and cooked perfectly. The server was helpful and friendly. My friend had the chicken sandwich with bacon and it was also affordable and delicious. Definitely one of my favorite lunch spots now.

Excellent. Great service food was all perfect. Not over seasoned prime rib was rare. The mac & cheese was excellent. The bar area is beautiful. Lots of great seating. They really hit a home run.

I don't know how this place doesn't have 5 stars- my wife and I wanted a delicious, romantic dinner and that's just what we got! There's a $20 corkage fee so we ordered a bottle of tribute Pinot noir and it was actually pretty good. Our server, (Carrington) was awesome with a voice so smooth, you would want to order everything. My wife got the 12oz New York strip adding Oscar enhancement with 2 sides - Boursin mashed potatoes and bacon Mac n cheese( both delicious) I ordered the surf and turf pasta and my 2 sides were wedge salad and Philly steak and cheese soup (both also delicious). For dessert, we ordered the cheesecake sampler- Ferraro Rocher, crème brûlée, and strawberry This is a new favorite in the Ankeny area and I hope this review will encourage you to try Filet Steakhouse!

Sirloin shrimp and lobster. August special

Love the environment here. It's cozy , yet lively. Our server Katie was amazing. She made recommendations for both food and drink. The food was delicious! We both had the sirloin lobster and shrimp. Everything was cooked perfect and the signature drink was a perfect compliment. We are already planning our next date night here! We were asked if we were celebrating anything and when we told them 22 years of marriage we were present with an anniversary card signed by the staff before leaving! Talk about a personalized experience. Even the manager stopped by our table to check on things! The level of customer service was above and beyond. I can not wait to recommend this place to anyone looking for a special place.

There was a small but steady crowd throughout the night and we had top- notch service from our server- knowledgeable about the menu, attentive in the 'just right way' - carefully observing drinks and not interrupting date night more than necessary. A variety of local And other craft beers were featured although surprisingly not any from Firetrucker next door! The holiday decor was still up but even without it has a warm feel- love the various table sizes and heights and the long bar with a pretty decent offering for cocktails. While there, the bartender was experimenting with drinks and having fun. After recommendations I ordered the French dip which was phenomenal! Homemade bread, warm, generous meat and peppers and grilled onions, flavorful dip . I will say if I ordered again I would ask to have the sauce left off as I am not a fan of horseradish sauce. Still, it was tasty! Side salad as option was super fresh with mixed greens and the house creamy Italian was bursting with herby flavor. my husband had the tenderloin and while delicious- it was 'bougie' and not the traditional Midwest. It was generous and interesting as a dinner option. Would certainly return as the patio is inviting (just not in January)!'

There were about 30 people in our group . They had already ordered the table appetizers before I arrived consisting of The Deviled Eggs with bacon, Artichoke Spinach dip and Crab Rangoon dip. All were delicious even though a bit cold from sitting for a while before they got passed around. We had 2 servers that I didn't get names but both were very attentive and managed the group very well . Everyone's orders were taken efficiently, I got the Frutti Di Mare in a white sauce with the seafood bisque soup. The entire dish was delicious with the exception of the bread, it was rock hard, but I didn't need it anyway . The bisque soup came out too cool for my liking but the waitress had a new bowl served at the right temp and it was perfect. I would eat a whole vat of that. The meal was great, shrimp perfectly prepared and fresh and snappy, plenty of mussels and a large portion providing a take home amount that served as dinner the next night too. I also indulged in a key lime pie because if rave reviews. I was not disappointed. Overall the place is elegant and classy enough for a suit and tie but still casual enough for shorts and flip flops. It will make for a nice date spot for an anniversary dinner. By the way this review was not written or touched by AI.

It was a nice sized chop. Also, when you order an entree, you get to go to the salad bar. The salad bar had lots of options and was a great start while waiting for my pork chop. Others in my party ordered the teriyaki steak and they each enjoyed theirs. It was a pretty large cut of steak for 10 ounces. I had a side with my chop and it was the bbq beans. These were excellent. I give this place 5 stars. It is an older steakhouse with an aged ambiance but their prices are decent and the service was great despite being quite busy. I moved to the Des Moines metro in 1992 and have been coming to Iowa Beef Steakhouse for years…read more Iowa Beef Steakhouse opened in 1982. It changed ownership in early 2015 when two previous employees purchased the steakhouse from the original owner. For me it's the quintessential steakhouse in the metro... That's not to knock any of our other long standing locals like 801, AJ's, Chicago Speakeasy, Johnny's, John & Nick's, The Big Steer, Rube's, Irina's, Jesse's, Trostel's, etc. Probably others I've forgotten to mention along with many other recent additions... We live in Iowa. We have some of the best beef in the nation! It's hard to throw a rock without hitting a restaurant that serves up a good cut of beef. Outside of the ownership and some slight changes to the menu (weights, additional items, prices) not much else has changed since I started coming here. Same signage, same building exterior, same dark hardwood walls and furniture, even the same carpet I think... It's an old school vibe. One of my friends had a recent trip to Mayo. When they were up there they called me and told me about a horror show of a visit they had with a chain steakhouse up there in Rochester. I listened and I probably smirked a little on the other side of the phone... I told them when they got back in town, had recovered from their procedure, I'd take them out for a good steak. To me Iowa Beef Steakhouse is the place to go. We were greeted right away at the host station up front as we walked in. A later dinner on a Friday evening... We were shown to a low topped table towards the rear half of the restaurant. Seating is low top tables and chairs for the most part along with a standard bar area and seating. After a short wait Jess came by and introduced herself and took our drink order (Pepsi products, wine, beer, and anything else you may want from the bar). The drinks hit the table after a couple of minutes and it was on to our food order. 1x fountain drink 1x unsweetened ice tea 1x large sauteed mushroom skillet 1x 16 oz ribeye (medium), with fries, and salad bar 1x 20 oz sirloin (medium rare) with fries, and salad bar They offer seven cuts of steak, pork chops, chicken, ribs and more. Served with a baked potato and salad bar. The salad bar is one of the better ones! Boasting standard lettuce and fixings along with multiple dressings. On to potato, pasta, coleslaw, cucumber and onion, broccoli, bean, pea salad, etc. Pudding and fluff. No more pickled herring though... Guess the demand for that one is no more. I used to grab a piece or two now and then. I kind of missed seeing on there, but mostly from a nostalgia sense. Lol They started offering burgers on their lunch menu after the ownership change in 2015! Don't sleep on these! One of the best burgers you'll find in the city. We were able to sub the baked potato choice for fries, but Jess warned us they have a pretty small fryer in the kitchen and when it's busy at dinner time it's at their discretion whether they can do this or not and it may not always be an option. I have an issue with some textures. Lumpy mashed poatoes being one of them...so it's really hard for me to enjoy a baked potato. No matter how good it is. Lol I'm just really glad they have a fryer again... They went a few years without one at all. Jess was a rockstar! Attentive. Quick on refills. Welcoming and she had a very enjoyable personality. The steaks were cooked perfectly to temp. In all my years of eating here I've never sent anything back to the kitchen. And even back in the day when they offered to let you cook your own I always paid the extra $ to let them take care of it for me... The mushrooms... Little morsels from the gods themselves! The fries and Texas toast. So good. Rochester tragedy not forgotten... But Iowa Beef Steakhouse restored their faith that meat can be cooked properly the first time and there is still exceptional service out there. Frankly..., I hope this place never changes! Subtle is fine... There's just something so comforting about walking into a place you have been coming to for over 30+ years and it's still like you remember it. Kind of like walking back into your parents' house when you come home for a visit, no matter how old you are, and your childhood bedroom is still pretty much the same. Another great visit to Iowa Beef Steakhouse... I know I'll be back...! https://iowabeefsteakhouse.com/
