My husband I love little cafes, so we had to stop here on our way through. The staff were very friendly and attentive. We ordered coffees and water, too bad no french vanilla, but the coffee was good! I ordered the pancake platter with bacon. My husband the B & G with 2 eggs over easy and some sausage links. They did not disappoint. Food was good, portions were huge. Next time I have to remember to do just a half order. The place was packed, but noise level was alright, you can carry a conversation.

Very diner-y vibe. Sitting at the counter enhanced that experience, despite being in a strip mall. It was quite busy around 10am on a Sunday. Clearly a popular choice. I chose the pancake platter which includes 2 eggs and 2 slices of bacon (eggs your way and meat options are available). It was HUGE. Seriously, way to much for one human to eat. They had a half order and when my eyes had stopped bugging out over the size of my meal, I was wishing I had chosen the half order. The pancakes were fluffy. Scrambled eggs were good. Bacon had a great flavor. Only reason I didn't rate a five was that Husband had asked for extra crispy hashbrowns, and they definitely were not. Service was great. Overall, a very good experience.

The food is always hot and fresh. This place is always busy, but we always receive good service. It's always very clean. I use the restroom in this visit and it was spotless. Things moved along fairly quickly and I would definitely recommend this place. I don't know about the other food I just know about the breakfast there and it is amazing. I'm sure the rest of the menu is just as phenomenal.

Seated immediately upon arrival on a Sunday morning. Staff was quick to say hello and take our drink orders. We had great service with regular drink refills, and our waitress gave us a heads up on the busy kitchen so we ordered a delicious cinnamon roll for the table appetizer. Our food came out hot and fresh, just as ordered. It was tasty-from the chocolate chip pancakes and waffles to the omelettes and breakfast sandwich. We will be back!

When out of town, I always want to find a local joint for breakfast. This place did not disappoint! My kids had the cinnamon rolls, which were enormous. The wife sampled the breakfast burrito, full of delicious eggs and meat. For me, I got the large breakfast plate; complete with to 3 scrambled eggs, 3 crispy slices of bacon, a generous helping of hash browns cooked perfectly, 2 slices of toast and a side of sausage gravy to top it off. I recommend this to anyone that wants a delicious, Midwest breakfast.

There's carpet throughout the dining area, which unfortunately makes the whole place feel a little dingy and dated. One of the coolest things about the restaurant is actually outside. It's located near what used to be a farm, and there's a chicken coop along with a nice herb and vegetable garden that you can walk through. It was a fun and unexpected thing to explore while waiting for our food, especially with a kid. The food itself was very hit or miss, and nothing really wowed our group. I ordered the sirloin medium rare, but it came out closer to medium, and I didn't think the quality of the steak was particularly good for the price. The presentation was also a little odd, with the steak served on a very well-used tin-style plate that had definitely seen better days. Other dishes were mixed as well. The onion strings were a hit, and one person really enjoyed the Reuben. The corn was excellent, and most of us liked the coleslaw and rolls. There was also pieces of spice cake or pumpkin bread tucked underneath the rolls, which was an unusual but surprisingly nice addition. On the other hand, the liver was dry, the prime rib was fattier than expected with quite a bit that wasn't really edible, and the mashed potatoes were very dry and bland. They also bring several family-style sides to the table whether you order them or not, including things like cottage cheese. It felt a little strange and somewhat wasteful since we didn't want or touch some of it, and overall it creates a LOT of food on the table. The meal wasn't particularly inexpensive either. Before tip, we spent about $70 for two adults and a child, which felt pretty steep considering the overall quality of the food. I will give them credit for the country store area. These types of restaurant gift shops can sometimes be filled with a lot of random junk, but this one actually had some interesting Iowa and farm-themed items that were fun to browse. Service was perfectly good, but overall this was more of an interesting one-time experience for us than somewhere I'd be eager to return to. We were invited here rather than choosing it ourselves, and I'm glad we tried it, but there are too many better dining options in the Des Moines area for me to be clamoring to come back.

The host worked to get everyone seated as quickly as he could. A server was at the table almost immediately for our drink order, and they were served in no time. There is quite a selection of breakfast and lunch items to choose from, and I settled on The Classic. I really liked the option for a small cake instead of toast, and I enjoyed that tremendously! The ham steak was thick, juicy, and flavorful, and the eggs were scrambled perfectly. The hash browns were a little bland, and I would rather have had an option for breakfast potatoes instead. But the meal was good and reasonably priced for the portions. For those who like coffee, there is a wide selection of options. Because it's a little smaller, you feel a little rushed to eat and get out so others can enjoy a breakfast as well. What was a little odd was that it seamed that the staff uniforms were scrub tops, like those they wear in the medical field. We were greeted and asked if we were dining in (it appears they do a brisk takeout business) and were told to sit where we wanted. It was surprisingly crowded for a Sunday afternoon at 4 pm. The menu is extensive and hubby and I both like Mediterranean food. I chose the Falafel plate, served with five falafel balls, hummus, a pita, and Greek salad. The portion was generous (ended up taking two falafel home). Served with tahini and their house green sauce (olive oil, cilantro, and jalapeño) It wasn't spicy but it was so delicious - I could get addicted to this thinking of all the other ways so could enjoy it!! The Greek salad was served with house dressing - garlic and yogurt, also very good. The falafel was crispy on the outside and moist on the inside, and flavorful. The hummus was not at all grainy - smooth but just a tad bland. Hubby had the lamb skewers and liked them very much. Served with rice, salad, and hummus. He also took one of the skewers home. We both had the mango Fresca juice. A bit too sweet for me but I generally drink unsweetened beverages. Hubby liked it a lot. Service was friendly and we were checked on twice to ask how we liked our food.
