I LOVE Thai food. I took a dinner special. The spring roll is automatic... and I chose veggie. Lovely crisp little thing full of rich carrot and other veggies. My soup choice was the Buddha Feast... with pumpkin and zucchini and mushroom in a spicy broth. I asked for Tofu instead of meat. Again... just delicious. I stayed on the pumpkin theme with Pumpkin Curry. Amazing red curry sauce and cubes of pumpkin, tofu [my choice], and red and green bell pepper strips. If you want to dine in the place is small and expect to be there for more than an hour. I would definitely order take out for a return trip due to quality of food. Zuzu restaurant. One person working the entire restaurant (in house, busing tables, takeout orders, answering phones the whole nine) so order when she comes to take your drink order or you might be waiting for awhile. If you want ice in your water you will have to ask for it which is annoying IMO! One interesting thing I did notice while I was eating. A guy walked in sat down said a few words to the waitress and bam had his food..apparently he knew the drill and called ahead so it was ready when he arrived. Small inside, you can sit anywhere. Best to come before the dinner rush to avoid waiting. Shrimp wonton soup was a new item and it was OK. Probably should have went with the coconut soup. Mango delight to was my entree it was tasty with shrimp and med spice level. If you come know that your not getting in and out quick, but you are getting pretty good Thai food. read more

My friends and I ate at Zuzap the other day and it was the first time I had ever tried Thai food. Being a vegetarian, I did not find many options that would suit my diet, however, I believe that any of the meats can be replaced with tofu. I opted for the "Veggie Delight" which was really good. It had mixed vegetables, white rice, and tofu all accompanied with a vegetable sauce. The portion was pretty large but I took the leftovers home to enjoy it the next day. The waitress asked us what level of spice we would like for our dish on a scale from 1-6, which I found helpful. I asked for a 3 which was not as spicy as I thought, but I am also well accustomed to eating spicy foods. I would probably recommend a 1 or 2 for people who are new to spicy foods. The ambiance was really nice. There were many decorations that represented the Thai culture which I found very interesting. I would definitely visit again with my family and would probably go during dinner time because they have more options on the menu. read more

Stopped by for lunch today. After 40 minutes, we had only been served our drinks. Other tables were still waiting on their soups and appetizers. Some people even had to ask for their meals to go as it was taking so long. Unfortunately we couldn't wait any longer and had to cancel our order. Still gave it 2 stars as the food is really good. I called in a take out order for 2 dinner sets (all vegetarian dishes) was told it will be 30 mins. But when I was there to pick up it wasn't ready and it took 1 hr for my food to be ready. This is not the first time that the take out order has been delayed significantly, it has happened to me a couple of times before. When I reach home, I got a call from the restaurant asking me to check my order.. when I find out they messed up the order, they had given us chicken noodle instead of tofu noodle and told us the only options was either come back (20 mins drive each way) or get refund back for the 1 dish they messed up. I asked them if they can deliver and was denied rudely saying they cannot do it for just 1 dish when it was not our mistake. I understand mistakes happen but they had no intention for fixing their mistakes or taking care of a regular customer. The food is good but their lack of customer service - rude responses, and no ownership for the mistakes they have made has lost them a customer for good. read more

Kind of hard to find, but has really good food. Be carefull how spicy you order it, I made mine a bit to spicy but it was still good. Kitchen staff was a bit rude, I had reordered my food for lunch, took way longer than they had said. I heard "He should have reordered" come from the kitchen. Though the waitress did speak up and tell him it was reordered. Over all, id go back and try more things. Hopefully during a non busy time. read more

Needs more servers!! We came over the lunch hour, and after 20 minutes had still not been asked for our order, so we had to leave. Ridiculous. The one server was running around like a chicken with her head cut off, so it wasn't her fault. Please hire more servers!! Some of us only have an hour maximum for lunch. This is too bad, because the food is really quite delicious. Definitely won't be back at lunchtime, though. :-( read more

I had a few minutes for lunch and was craving Thai. I've traveled the world and I feel like I can tell good Thai from not so good Thai. The lunch I just had was not good, it was great! The coconut soup was filled with fresh veggies and just the right amount of spice to wake up my tastebuds. The spring roll was hot and crispy, not cold and soggy. The food is amazing! I ordered thai hot level and it was flavorful and delicious! That said, the service was terrible. The server was in a hurry to get us out the door. THE CURRY! This is the best curry and general Thai food on the west side of town. The interior of the restaurant is small and the service can be a little delayed but the food is absolutely fantastic. The menu is large including a diverse array of curry selections and everything we have gotten has been fantastic. The pineapple curry is a nice change of pace, the panang is excellent, the red and green both have the right balance and aromatics. Even the appetizers are above average. Yes, I am a fan of Zuzap. My only real complaint is that it's not a little closer to where I live! If you're over on the west side, you should check it out. It's your typical Asian-foreign ambiance, family run and owned, a hundred menu options type of restaurant. I got the pad thai, and my boyfriend got some kind of curry. He's been back twice, so I know he likes it as well. The prices are good, and the spice options are true. I'm not a huge spice lover, so I got a 2 spice, but I really could have gone with a 3. You'll probably get enough food to have lunch for the next day! read more

Finding Thai food like this in Des Moines is a real treat. The food is unbelievable! Be careful when ordering, the spice levels are for the serious Thai food enthusiast. If you simply like flavorful with a bit of a kick, stick with a level 1 or 2. If you really like to sweat ... bring it on with a 4-6. Wonderful service, wonderful & flavorful food! I have gone here for a couple of years now. The service is always remarkable. I always get the same thing-economy meal set (entree, soup, and one piece side) for $8. I always order the green curry with rice, level 3. Delicious. This last order had a little more vegetables with the curry than I've had before, much appreciated. The veggies gave the curry more substantive flavor, even though the flavor would be great without anything. I will continue to come here for as long as they serve green curry! read more

I first would like to start this out by saying we have excellent Thai places in Minnesota so the bar is set really high for my standards. I came in here after a long days of work/travel and had a few beers and dinner due to my craving for Thai and the location to the Marriott I was staying at. Since the reviews were all over the place of what to try, I went with the easiest one to not screw up, the Pad Thai. Normally I would not go with this as it is more American than Thai, but I also know it is usually a decent dish dish (I prefer curry dishes). I ordered the Pad Thai w/ chicken spicy 3.5 (based on reviews 3 was hot). The dish came out extremely hot (temperature wise) so I was excited. However, when I went to swirl the noodles around they were all stuck to eachother (over cooked). Secondly there was not any spice to it, and lastly there was no flavor. The best part of my meal was the beer. Since the beer was the best part of my meal I have to give this a 1 because I could have gone to Granite City Food & Brewery across the street and drank some excellent beer and had a wonderful burger or steak. However, my weakness for Thai did me in today. Sadly I will not eat at this establishment again. read more

Waited about 40 minutes for the soup to arrive. It's soup. Another 15m for entrees. I ordered shrimp & scallop phad thai. It had 4 shrimps and no scallops. They don't even take the Not much flavor. I also ordered sticky rice that never arrived. The server didn't check on us once. Prices are good. Food is mediocre. Waiting time is unacceptable. read more

Zuzap is a small restaurant just near Granite City, after a few circles near the building we found the small restaurant. I came in pretty excited to try the food since I often don't eat Indian/Asian cuisine. We were greeted by a friendly women who seated us in a booth. As for atmosphere Zuzap could look nicer, it was bland and boring. The booths were small and the dining room was cramped. The food selection was varied and I the spiciness scale was very helpful when ordering (our waitress explained it very well). I ordered an appetizer of the pot stickers and the Beef Pad Thai. The flavor OK, not much to say about it. Overall, the whole experience was just fine, definitely won't be coming back though. Not the best. read more

This small restaurant has a good variety of menu items. Tried the Zuzap Signature Soup clear sour broth with basil and veggies ordered tofu in mine delicious. Summer rolls were mostly noodle and lettuce filled with spicy roast pork or tofu couldn't really tell which. Entrees were vegetarian eggplant with basil and calamari with roasted pepper both very flavorful and served with steamed rice. The real surprise was the Taro Custard dessert far more flavorful than the (green) Sticky Rice with Mango. Overall a pleasurable experience despite the relaxed (somewhat slow) service. OK- to be clear- this review is being written not because of the servers...but the cooks/owner who insist on taking too long to get the food out. I have been a long time fan, brought new people, and have even put up with absolutely HORRIBLE SERVICE because it took 90 mins to have a 35 minute lunch! I ordered 4 lunches to go- it took them 1 hour to make them. Unacceptable. I feel so bad for the servers who have no control over this. Very very good thai food. I lived in Thailand for 5 years and this was pretty authentic. I started with the chicken curry puffs. I know that doesn't sound authentic but when I was in Thailand they had these curry puffs everywhere. They would sell them at stands on the street. Think of it as a savory turnover filled chicken curry. It was really good. I then ordered the red curry fried rice. This was somewhat authentic. In Thailand when I ordered fried rice it was never mixed with curry like this, but despite this it was very good. There were also bell peppers mixed in which isn't very authentic either. All that being said, it was very very good. Good amount of sweetness balanced with spice and some tang from the lime that came with the rice. Highly recommend it. I ordered it with a spice level of 2 (out of 6) and it was hot enough although I will probably order a level 3 next time. Overall this is a great Thai restaurant, would rate it better than Thai Flavors and am excited to return. read more
