I've passed by this place for years. Never heard anyone say anything good or bad about it. Last Monday night I was craving Chinese and made a special trip to Sam's Fine EggRolls, only to find that they were closed on Monday and Tuesday. As I had driven right by Mr EggRoll I decided to stop in there to get takeout. It was 30 minutes before they closed. I should have known something was wrong when the General Tso's and rice was given to me in about 2 minutes. When I got home, I dug in only to find each piece extremely chewy and stringy. I had to wonder how long it had been sitting in the heat tray? I tried 3 bites, and gave up and threw it in the trash. Needless to say I won't be going back. Maybe if I had gotten it fresh made would have made a different story? I'll never find out. read more

Sooooo apparently they do not tell you that the individual orders come with rice. I asked for Chicken lo mein, sweet and sour, broccoli beef and chicken fried rice. Each plate is 9$ and some change. When I got home I opened the Togo boxes and found rice in each one of the orders. The beef broccoli taste like bbq sauce. The lo mein looks like fettuccini noodles (has a good taste) but I wasn't expecting that. The sweet and sour chicken was good but the amount of chicken given can feed my kid alone. First, I'd like to say that I've heard this place is WONDERFUL for several years. I was working in DesMoines yesterday and noted this place was on DoorDash, so decided to finally try it. As for the DoorDash part of my experience, it was good, the guy delivered the food hot and fresh and timely. So DoorDash gets a 5/5 for this order. Now, for the food. A bit pricier than TsaoTsang, which I usually order from DoorDash, but it said that I also get soup with my order. Ok, I proceeded. Ordered the meal and hot and sour soup. An egg roll comes with the meal, but I ordered potstickers as well. I got my meal-no soup, no utensils(maybe they asked, I don't know), the egg roll was tiny and the shredded cabbage inside was tough to chew on and stringy. This was the worst egg roll I've ever had, I'm not a good cook and have made egg rolls before, and even my egg rolls tasted better and were easier to eat. How does one toughen up an egg roll?!?!?! No idea. Now, on to the potstickers. I've no idea how they cooked these. They were less than average, but edible. Now on to the entree-Mongolian pork. My favorite place for this was FortuneGardenGrimes, but they closed and the new place isn't as good and doesn't have this. It was less than average and pretty oily. But it was edible. And no hot and sour soup. I can't recommend this place. Less than average food, pricier, and they don't send what they promised in their ordering app on DoorDash. As a restaurant overall, I can only give them three stars. If I were reviewing just solely based off of the two dishes I always always get (Mongolian Beef Extra spicy and Shrimp Lo Mein) then it would be 4 stars, but of course, sadly the rest of the food here isn't that great. These two dishes that I love were carried over from the last owners who perfected it. Thank you for not messing with the recipe. The other dishes that I used to love from here are a far cry from what they used to be. For a little dive hole in the wall this place serves up some pretty fresh Chinese food. We got 4 full dinners and 8 extra egg rolls for $43. Took about 15 minutes to get the food. They only serve drinks in cans. Perfect for those nights your in a hurry and don't feel like cooking. read more

Mr. Eggroll used to be one of my childhood favorites. And while they're still good, I feel their food has gone downhill a little. It's overly salty and a little on the bland side other than salt. Fried rice was bland...there might have been a soupcon of soy sauce added to it but there was no flavor otherwise. Ordered for the first time and did not know soup came with the meals. Apparently you're supposed to know this. Made a second run here for the same client and noticed that the time they quote you is about 1/2 of what it actually takes. Egg rolls are tiny...I got a tiny cup of sweet and sour sauce for four meals. They do not have any actual hot mustard...just the standard Chinese packets carry out places offer. Tender, as though the breading hugging it in a warm, decadent embrace reassures it that yes, you are loved. "Be the best bite of chicken you can be," it says. I'm serious. It's that good. Everything else on that menu can be absolute trash but the sesame chicken? Out of this world. I don't even know if the eggrolls are good and the place is named after them because I can't bring myself to not over indulge on their sesame chicken. I have never really had a positive experience in the 2 times I have eaten here. They have never got my order correct. Once I ordered the Mongolian beef and the other time was kung pao chicken w/ only peanuts and water chestnuts. I had more water chestnuts than chicken by like 3 times. Everytime I saw this place driving by I thought the restaurant looked small and unappetizing. I was craving egg rolls one day and thought, they must have good egg rolls here. Turns out they serve more than egg rolls (haha). They are a standard Chinese fast food places with food quality that is almost restaurant quality food. It is always the same staff working here and they are very friendly and have the place operated well. They have a great selection of food. I have tried a good amount of their food and enjoy ir, their appetizers are good as well. Their eat-in area is nice, but their bathroom is outside and you need a key. I grabbed some lunch here en-route to the DMV in Indianola. This hole in the wall is the best food compared to the average greasy mall food. Very impressed with our meal tonight! We ordered the almond chicken and sesame chicken! The servings are huge- one order is enough for two people- we will keep that in mind next we order from here. The sesame chicken was great quality meat. The almond chicken had great flavorful and was mixed with vegetables - the chicken was smaller, but still good. The rice it comes with was great! My husband and I enjoy eating here often. Vegetable shrimp and vegetable chicken dishes are large helpings of broccoli, mixture of vegies and large helping of meat. They are generous with the food, fast service, and healthy eating. The eggrolls are great! We call in order and food is ready for pickup in 10 minutes. Great value and this place has been there for at least 20 years. Pick up their menu and select the foods you like for take home and enjoy - brown sauce or white sauce or mean spicy sauce. Looks like they have fried chicken wings added to the selection. Nice selection of appetizers, soup, chow mein noodles, fried rice, extra portions [meat, veggies, etc.], chicken, pork, beef, shrimp dishes.
