They try to serve things fresh They are consistent with quality in all there locations. I usually go to a late lunch here it seems to.be less crowded and parking is easier. Everyone is understaffed, so I always appreciate the service staff who are working. Remember they're busy because they're good. my first visit, tho mama rasta has had food from here delivered to work not infrequently. i'm very pleased at: 1- the friendliness of ALL the employees. to a person, they were all kind, helpful, and just plain nice. 2- the vastness and variety of options on the menu. it took a long time for us to explore it, and even longer to decide. that said, the guy behind the counter was patient, offering answers to our questions, and making suggestions. 3- the quickness of the delivery of the food. SNAP, it was here. 4- the taste and portion sizes were spot on. the mac & cheese, while nothing special, was definitely tasty mac & cheese. 5- the cleanliness of the place! no qualms about hanging out and enjoying. a note: the employees all seemed more mature than one has come to expect these days, and it was obvious from their attention to detail and customer service and experience. we'll be back, and yes, we recommend this place. read more

Had a very good lunch experience dining with a friend on a very rainy weekday afternoon. Service was superb, and the food very fresh and tasty. Both my friend and I got the 'choose 2' lunch special. It's a decent deal at $9.59, and you can get an upgrade to a premium half sandwich for another $1.50. I did that with the delicious Chicken Tortilla Soup and the Spicy Southwest Chicken Sandwich. The sandwich was solid, with good fresh flavors, and a bit of zing, but I think most people would be good with the heat level. My friend got a salad with his sandwich, and it was a nice mix of greens and veggies. My daughter and I just moved to Des Moines. I searched local places to eat near me and McAlister's Deli came up. Just down the street. First, we ordered online and it only took about 15mins until it was at our door! I ordered the French Dip, cucumber and tomato salad and a cup of chili. The only thing bad I could say is, I wish they had an option for a bigger sandwich! It was freaking delicious. The chili was amazing and I loved the little salad! I also ordered a sweet tea...PERFECT! Not too sweet but sweet enough! Loved it! I don't have a pic, because I tore it up so quick! My daughter ordered the King Club, chicken tortilla soup and a peach lemonade. The sandwich was HUGE! And so delicious! Yep, I tried it! And she loved it. Terrible experience, pulled in and as I dropped my wife off at the door with our newborn as it was raining.I proceeded to park the car. My wife and kid already taken their seat I began to order the usual club and salad for my significant other I was met at the counter with a cashier with a rather to say the least "annoyed" expression on her face. Not thinking anything of it, we all have hectic days I get it. But as her first words were "what you want dude?" I was almost taken back by such a "Stoner" welcome. And as I began to take in what was happening I wasn't too alarmed to notice her eyes were blood shot to hell trying to hide behind the what looked to be like a pound of make-up that must have taken her at least an hour in the mirror to actually make her look presentable as... What I come to find out later. What the assistant manager! After I felt like I was just being complete pain in her side. I remained polite and calm always giving people the respect that we all have bad days. But our food finally came out, I asked her if I could get something to go as well. Almost as if I was about to ask her to ring in a large catering order and requesting it to be complete before we were finished. She gasped and sighed with a "what you want now?" I, appalled, responded with "nevermind don't worry about it." She began to tell me that they were about to close so make it snappy will ya. And all I was about to ask her to ring up was a cookie for my wife since she always mentions that they were the best! To wrap this up, every other time I have visited, my wife and I, was completely satisfied with the excellent customer service along with the quality of food. But WOW, I don't know what kind of supervisors running the place at night. It's probably not appropriate to be so obvious about your recreational activities that should be practiced off the clock. Definitely not while trying to manage a reputable establishment. She might want to spend more time on her manners at the workplace rather then how much makeup she can put on to hide her Stoner vibe. We went here on a weekday for lunch and it was a quick wait. They even opened up another register (making it 3) to get the few of us through the line. After we ordered they gave us a number to put at our table. I ordered a full sized salad and my fiancé ordered a half sandwich and soup combo. The service was under 5 minutes. Everyone was friendly and genuinely happy to be there. They even do table side service to refill your beverages. It was a nice lunch and not very crowded. This is a great example of chain "fast-casual" doing it right! The menu was extensive, with all sorts of great looking options to choose from. I chose the Sweet Chipotle Chicken as my main course, with a side of broccoli, and their intriguing Apple Cinnamon tea as my drink. The sandwich seemed a little small for the price, but the taste was every bit worth it! When paired with the lightly salted broccoli and the chilled sweet and spicy tea to complement, it was very satisfying. Stopped by your location this past Sunday on our way back home. Just got to say tremendous job on the change of atmosphere at this location. I take it Gary was FOH the house lead that day. He was involved with almost every aspect I could tell. He was calling his employees by name Nile, Hana, Kisha, and Lena and recognizing them for even the minor things that help accomplish the amazing service that day. When all the customers had been waited on all 5 of them were immediately in the dining room interacting with us, cleaning and restocking as they did so. Just a couple months back when I visited it felt so cold so to speak of the atmosphere. None of the employees were smiling, enjoying what they were doing and actually looked like they wished the day was over. Love this deli. I have eaten here 5 times Great sandwiches and sides. The Ruben is fantastic (although I get it with spicy mustard instead of thousand island dressing). When I heard about McAlister's coming to Des Moines I was really excited. My husband and I took our girls to the West Des Moines location, and the wait time was longer than I had hoped. When the food arrived, I was not pleased when the temperature of our food was less than hot. We did mention this to the store manager who invited us back for another visit. We thought we'd give it another try, this time it was just my husband and myself. Again, the temperature was not up to par. Even more so disappointed that this was a chance to really impress and the food was lacking any real attention to being delicious as advertised. Sadly, we won't be returning. read more

This place is terrific! I've been here twice. The service is good and fast. They bring your food to your table quickly. I've tried both the Club and the Memphian. The Memphian is delicious. Smoked turkey, Black Forest ham, black angus beef, provolone and much more. The sandwiches are huge with a very good amount of meat. You also get a side with your sandwich purchase. The potato salad is delicious. Coleslaw is fair. This place should be jam packed given the food quality, prices and service! Stop in and give them a try! read more

I have never ordered anything bad from here. The food is awesome and staff is always so nice. I especially love their French Dip sandwich, and they have a wonderful broccoli cheese soup with a bread bowl option.
