I went yesterday to get egg foo young &mongolian beef. It also comes with egg rolls & crab Rangoon's& fried rice. The food was wonderful as before I ordered it. I went in to order I think I had it in 10 minutes not even tthat they are so good so fast wonderful flavor. I normally do not like eggrolls I didn't eat it so I put it in my air fryer today. My husband and I wanted to try a good Chinese place today and were thrilled that this place was open on Christmas evening for dinner. We were both in the mood for some Szechuan chicken so that's what we ordered. We also got some hot and sour soup. The food came pretty quickly. We got our soup first, but when we saw how light-colored it was, we knew it wasn't a good sign. It also didn't have many things in it; maybe just some eggs and skinny strips of tofu. The best hot and sour soups always have meat, vegetables, tofu and mushrooms in it and have a dark thick broth. This soup had none of those qualities. It was soup but it wasn't hot and spicy. In fact it was pretty bland. We thought that was a bad omen for our entrees. When we got our Szechuan chicken dishes, they came with an egg roll and crab Rangoon. The Rangoon looked very hard and dry like it had been previously cooked and reheated later on. It didn't have much flavor and the egg roll was kind of bland, too. The sauce for the dish was a little spicy but kind of one-dimensional like it was missing something. The chicken tasted like maybe it was cooked separately from the sauce. It was boring and didn't have any pan-seared flavor to it.. for the prices they charge, I was expecting much better quality. The food all tasted bland and Americanized. It definitely didn't have the authentic Chinese flavor I was expecting. We definitely won't be back again. read more

Ordered on Christmas Day. We knew it would take a long time given the holiday and were willing to wait. We were told 30 minutes which was great! My husband arrived after 30 minutes. We were told it would be another 30 minutes. My husband paid for the food and sat down to wait. After another hour, we decided we would not wait any longer. My husband went up to request a refund, at which time the owner yelled at my husband, accused him of taking the food and then coming back to ask for his money back. Took the kids to Tsing Tsao West/Urbandale for lunch a while back This place used to be a solid go-to for me, but over the past year(ish) or so the food seemed to have slipped in quality. Ownership or kitchen change maybe? This stop was more of a convenience for me... I know the menu, what the kids like, and that they weren't likely to be too busy. Garlic chicken, beef lo mein, orange chicken, an order of crab rangoon, and three fountain drinks... $30 and change before tip. I was pleased to find today's food reminded me of how it used to be before it went downhill (imo). It was all good including the hot and sour soup. It's still not Shanghai (or Great China...I really miss Great China) but it was better than buffet quality. Typical fast casual Chinese food. My son and I went in for lunch on a Wednesday around 12:30. Unfortunately or fortunately it wasn't very busy, so we went right up to order. Service was good and the food was good, it came out right away. I always forget what my go to meal is. It's not schezuan, it might be the Hunan. I ordered the Schezuan, it was good, but not what I thought I wanted. It was nice and spicy, I ordered extra sauce so I could sop up the rice in it. Soup was OK, I'm not an egg drop fan, but my son devoured mine and his. The crab Rangoon was rather sad looking, there was no twist to the ends, just a flat triangle, that wasn't overly flavorful. The price of $5.50 or so for a lunch is good--it includes some soup, a small crab rangoon, fried rice, an egg roll and your entree. If spicy food is your thing you'll be disappointed as very few Hunan and szcheuan-type entrees are available. The food is very bland at this particular location, I'm not sure what it is that they do differently but the other two locations are much better, specifically the South location. Anyway, I really don't think it's worth the time and money to come here just out of sheer convenience. I happened to ask a couple questions upon my visit. First when they brought my food out, I asked if they had duck/plum sauce (they do not, bummer). Secondly when I was comfortably full, I asked for a box. They seemed annoyed & inconvenienced at both questions, though they did have a box for me! One thing in particular I did like was they were playing Christian music over their speakers. It's really bad. It's beyond the "part of the charm" and into severe neglect. Why not spend a little and get all of the furniture reupholstered to keep your restaurant looking nice? Their crab rangoons were average and lacked some flavor, but they were cooked right and not over done. I also got an egg roll, which was below average. Again it was cooked right but didn't have any noteworthy flavor. The rice was probably above average, though a bit too much soy sauce was used in the preparation. Fried rice with just soy sauce and a few frozen vegetables isn't usually a winner, though. The hot and sour soup was above average. The service was nice and fast. They do have lunch specials, which drew me to order here. I see potential and would likely come back for more dishes during lunch. read more

Just moved here from AZ, been searching for GOOD Chinese and finally found it here! We dined in, lunch specials with soup, rice, egg rolls, etc. Ordered Orange Chicken, Chicken Fried Rice, Pineapple Chicken (added spicy to this dish) and Beef with Broccoli. This is a chain around the metro area and they all seem to be different than one another. Not the menu but the actual food itself. They're not consistent when you order Mongolian Beef from here than if you were to order it from another location. This one in particular looked fine, all the Chinese decor and a big tree near the window. The people up front also looked to be Chinese as well. I don't believe that should be a telling of how the food will be but you kind of get that prejudice feeling that, 'oh they're Asian the food should be good at a Chinese restaurant.' This wasn't what what I got unfortunately. I got Mongolian Beef and it was very salty. The boyfriend got Orange Chicken which just looked like Sesame Chicken and actually tasted like it too. Nice cheap Chinese-American fast food! This is a popular place in the Urbandale area due to its affordability and location. It's kind of a guilty pleasure of mine. Price: Pretty affordable. There's a lunch/dinner menu where dishes range from 5.20 to 6.60 and it comes with a few sides. Lunch includes soup, fried rice, egg roll, and a crab rangoon. Dinner is the same except no soup and steamed white rice instead of fried rice. Food: Don't expect anything out of the usual. like the Shrimp with Lobster Sauce. My only complaint is that the crab rangoon could have more cheese in it since it seems like mostly skin. read more

I've been eating at Tsing Tsao for years. With four locations you can get your fix anywhere in town. What make this the best Chinese food in DeMo, the prices for sure. Well that and they are always consistent, I can't think of a single time where I was disappointed and that's rare in the food business! I tend to stick with one of their three specials of the day. The price ranges from $4-5.50 lunch special only, my favorite being the #2 combo. This is usually the spicer dish(tho never spicy) with 2 chicken wings on the side. I always ask for 5 star spicy with extra chili on the side. Like most Asian spots in DeMo, it's not really hot unless you do it yourself. Depending on what day of the week you go you also get one of their three signature soup's. The standard egg drop, hot and sour, or corn soup. My personal fav is the hot and sour. On cold days I'll order only the hot and sour soup, larger bowl with extra fixings. They make it special here, I'm not sure what they put it there but, it is delicious! I used try to plan my lunches based on that being the soup of the day. A few years ago I joined a friend for lunch and corn soup was the daily special.
