All I wanted was to have the food I ordered and PAID for. No trying to talk with the customer only laughing. Would not recommend this location as they are more concerned with raking in money than providing food or "good food." They will take your money and give you dry dog food and expect you to smile and take it. Tsing Tsao is a good company except for the Waukee location. Don't waste your money. Go to a gas station and get better food. Owner doesn't care and only wants to make a quick buck. Better food at a cheap gas station. Service was great but the food was gross. I got the broccoli beef, orange chicken and the combination lo mein. The shrimp in the lo mein was chewy (aka overcooked) the beef was also chewy and the egg rolls that came with all of our meals were soggy. I usually don't make my way to this side of town. I was brought out by a friend who raved about this place. We got in and seated ourselves right away. My friend and her family smiled and waved at the gentleman that was behind the counter. Smiles all around the room. I walked up to the counter and it was easy to read the menu on the wall or there was paper menus to take if needed. Very simple to put in my order of Orange chicken and soup. The meal came with an egg roll and crab Rangoon. It was very filling and tasty. We had a table top of about 8 and the food came out relativity fast in the order of which we ordered. They have been here enough times that he knows their order pretty well and everyone is super happy. If I lived out this way I would visit more regularly, I believe they have other locations and the food is just as good. read more

Great place to go for quick and cheap Chinese food. Their lunch specials are on point and are appropriately sized. My chicken lo mein was good but slightly oily. The chicken was tender with a delectable sauce. It comes with a side of rice and the "fried rice" was not very good, extremely bland. The crab Rangoon were standard and more of a cream cheese wonton. The wonton soup here is the most disappointing wonton soup I've ever had in my life. Not only was it incredibly salty, they just cut up some wonton wrappers and threw it in and to make things worst, they add snow peas to it which changes the taste of the dish entirely! The Mongolian beef was another disappointing dish. The meat was not tenderized which made it dry and chewy. The flavor was good but the overcooked beef ruined the entire dish. The restaurant is located in a strip mall and it's my to go place for chinese food when I am in the mood for 'to go chinese food'. The owner always has a smile on his face and is very friendly. It's the right price and food is tasty. We always order the combo fried rice ( chicken and shrimp only)and normally this dish comes with beef egg roll and crab Rangoon but, since the owner knows us he always gives us two crab rangoons instead( we don't eat beef) even if I forget to ask. My wife ordered the general Tso's dinner meal, and this was actually delicious - even being a " fast food " Chinese restaurant. The best part - was that it only cost $16 for a dinner for two and considering it's located in Waukee, is a heck of a deal. Will stop again next time we go to the IMAX across the street! read more

Was in the mood for fried rice so I went to my go to Chinese restaurant. I got the combination fried rice and asked for it to be spicy. It came with plenty of beef and chicken and about 4-5 medium sized shrimps. The dish also came with the usual egg roll, crab rangoon, and soup. Tsing Tsao in Waukee is located just south of Hickman in a strip mall behind McDonalds. Keep that in mind since you may need to go to Mickey Ds if you agree with me that Tsing Tsao is probably the worst excuse for a Chinese restaurant I have ever encountered. Tsingtao is the name of a great Chinese beer that has been around for over 100 years after it was started by German immigrants to Qingdao in China. Ironically, Tsing Tsao, the Waukee restaurant, does not serve beer or wine. I went to Tsing Tsao after a woodworking class around 7:30 on a weeknight and my first clue should have been that the place was totally empty of customers. I rationalized that perhaps this was late for the dinner crowd in this area, but no, it was empty because the food is awful. The restaurant offers a lunch/dinner special that includes an egg roll, crab Rangoon and steamed rice with the entrée. I also ordered a cup of hot and sour soup. The soup was bland and missing the requisite hot or sour flavors as well as missing any shredded pork, shitake mushrooms, shredded bamboo shoots, sesame oil or scallions, all essential ingredients in this soup. What it did contain was tofu, but then again, tofu is cheap. My dinner special entrée was Kung Pao Chicken ($7.50) that came out almost immediately while I was still eating the soup. The dinner arrived with the chicken, a scoop of white rice, the egg roll and crab Rangoon on a single plate with a fork sticking out of the chicken. You have to ask for chop sticks since they are not on the table. The egg roll was a thin mostly wrapper with little ingredients, or at least ingredients that were not discernable. The crab Rangoon again was mostly wrapper, and tough wrapper at that. But the worst was the kung pao chicken. From the first bite it was obvious the chicken was not cooked individually with the other ingredients, rather it was pre-cooked in mass with the intention of using the chicken in every chicken dish on the menu. The chicken included white and dark meat, which is fine, but it totally lacked any flavor. It was almost if the chicken was first boiled in water, perhaps for soup, then cut up, thrown into a wok with a thin, flavorless mixture of soy, stock and corn starch. Some peanuts and red chilies along with celery were added in a poor attempt to emulate kung pao chicken. Apparently the cook at Tsing Tsao has never looked at any recipes for this dish since not only was the chicken not cooked with the other ingredients but many essential ingredients such as fresh ginger, garlic, black rice vinegar and sesame oil were missing. The only editable item on the plate was the steamed rice and I am surprised they got that right, but using an automatic rice cooker today makes that a no brainer. This food was so bad that I was only able to eat a few mouthfuls before I stood up and walked out, leaving most of the slop on my plate. This food was an insult to all self-respecting Chinese restaurants and the total unnecessary death of a chicken. I have eaten Chinese dishes all over the world, including China, New York, San Francisco and Chicago, and this restaurant in Waukee Iowa is by far, the worst excuse for a Chinese restaurant I have ever encountered in over 70 years. Remember at the start of this review I mentioned Tsing Taso is right behind McDonalds, if you too make the same mistake I did in trying this hell hole imposter of a Chinese restaurant, it is only a short hop over the Mickey Ds. read more

Tsing Tsao is the worst Chinese restaurant I've come across. I ordered steamed rice , soup, and crab Rangoon. After ordering I asked about sautéed vegetables to see what kind of vegetables they had in the mix. He told me what kind of vegetables and then I said no never mind no thank you. He read me my total gave and gave him the money, I didn't think anything of the total, then got my food and went home. When I got home I found a bunch of vegetables in my bag that I had not ordered, I called and asked if I could bring them back and get my money back because I realized I had paid for that he simply said no this is not my fault we don't do that and I continued to tell him that I would like my money back because I did not order them, he proceeded to tell me I never said I didn't want them then hung up the phone. read more

This is the best Chinese in the area. The general tsao's sauce is NOT spicy, but the veggies are crisp and colorful so it's still delicious. Service is consistently fast, friendly and accurate. I will definitely be going back! read more
