We have been searching for an authentic Chinese restaurant that serves Peking duck in our area...and we finally found one! And it's so close to home! Family owned and operated, this little restaurant is located in the cute small town of Norwalk. The restaurant is clean and includes your traditional Chinese deco. On to the food: we have not had anything here yet that we didn't LOVE! Yeah. Fresh ingredients, authentic Chinese spices and preparation, and prices are very reasonable especially for the amount of food you get. The star of the show for us is the duck! If you want to get the duck, you have to order it a couple days in advance and it's sooooo worth it! Service was exceptional considering it's usually only one or two of their family members working. If you're in a rush, be sure to order head and be patient. They're able to keep their prices affordable because they don't hire a lot of staff. If you're dining in, go early. If you come at peak dinner time, expect to wait a little bit. Even with only one server the night we dined there, service was still quick. I'm very disappointed in the food that I received. I've been going to China dragon many years and have always been satisfied but today, it was just plain awful. I ordered: Egg drop soup Pot stickers Chicken wings Shrimp egg fou young. Other than the soup everything wasn't even edible. The spring rolls were passable. The potstickers were horrible. They had a thick dough on them and very little filling. The dough seemed more than pancake batter. The chicken wings were overcooked, tough and inedible . This order was a gift from a family member for Mothers Day. I don't know what going on at China Dragon but it wasn't the China dragon I was used to. Very disappointed . Good string beans. Fantastic service. Ambience meh. Willing to make any dish with tofu which is much appreciated for a vegetarian. Hot tea is on point. A good staple for a small town option when looking for an in person experience without having to drive Des Moines. My mother and I stopped here for dinner after a very long day. It was clean and not too busy. The menu had an extensive variety dishes to choose from. We ordered Mongolian Beef and Cashew Chicken. The Mongolian Beef was wonderful and done the correct way beef, green onions, yellow onions. It was nice that they didn't try to make it their own by adding all sorts of stuff to it. The Cashew Chicken was flavorful and full of cashews. We shared an appetizer of pork wonton Mom got the dinner special that included soup. I thought the fresh made carrot flower was a great garnish. I have gone to pricier places and have not had such lovely presentation of meals. I am not quite sure what Donald orders that is so expensive, but our meal was about 25.00 for 2. I was so excited to see the Pho sign on the window. Pho is my go to for comfort food and knowing I can have it delivered to my front door was awesome. So is it good? The broth was very satisfying. It arrived still piping hot which was exactly how it has to be. Being the most important component I was pleased to taste hours of flavor in it. There were plenty of noodles to add, bean sprouts, mint and a few onions. I would have liked more onions. I had the beef. It was perfectly sliced and very lean. In itself it had good flavor. Everything fit perfectly together. The hot sauce they sent could have been doubled but with some from the fridge added a great kick. I am not a Pho pro but I do know what good tastes like and this was good. I see many more rainy or snowy days curled up around a hot piping bowl of attitude adjusting broth. Give it a try! read more

Normally I don't come to Norwalk to eat unless I'm meeting my buddy who lives down here. This day my buddy and I wanted to try their Peking Duck because I did not know there was somewhere in Des Moines that offered this dish. There are many Asian eateries/BBQ places that offer duck (whole or chopped up), but none that I heard of that serve Peking Duck (this just means how it's served, not a special type of duck, the duck is the same). I have had authentic Peking Duck in China on multiple occasions and was curious to do a comparison. We called ahead the day before to confirm if they would serve Peking Duck the next day, because on their menu it says 24 hour notice is required. They said they could accomodate us for lunch. The restaurant is nice and relaxing, not extremely busy, seems like a comfortable place to eat a quick lunch or enjoy a conversation with friends. We started our meal with sweet and spicy soup and egg drop soup. The soups were very good, I wish they came with the Peking Duck order, we had to order it separately. The duck order did come with a small bowl of fried rice which tasted okay. Now for the duck, I'm just going to say first, it was very very good! The flavors were excellent and I couldn't say enough about the taste of the duck. Now, is it Peking Duck? Close, but off by a good amount. Here are the differences, they cut the duck in the back and not tableside, the skin is also not separated from the lean meat. The wrapping they have is more like a tortilla, not the authentic wrapping. Not enough onions to use for the wrap, hardly any. The hosin sauce was good, they got that aspect right. Overall, great tasting meal and good price! I will definitely get the Peking Duck again and see what other menu items they have to offer! read more

I like china dragon. It's really tasty and perfect when I'm in the mood for some Chinese. I think Norwalk is lucky to have this place. The people who own it and work there are very friendly and I'm glad to support a local business like this. I will be back again and again. I recommend the chicken lo mein or the cashew chicken. As a norwalk local China Dragon is the best spot to grab some takeout. Their potstickers are amazing! I've had other potstickers after eating the ones from China Dragon and they don't come anywhere near to how good China Dragon's are! The Pho is also one of my favorites! This located in a newer strip mall in Norwalk, Iowa. This business shares the parking lot with a bank so during non business hours they get the parking lot to themselves. I somehow managed to come across their page on yelp, not many review but good ratings so I thought I would give them a try. The interior of the restaurant was clean along with the bathroom. The service was very good. We ordered the Szechuan Pork and Combo Fried rice. The Szechuan Pork was a bit on the the sweet side for my taste but the meat and veggies were fresh. Fried rice was good with a decent amount of eggs / meats. Now for me the star of the show is their egg roll. This and soups (hot and sour was good) is included with their lunch special. It was crispy, fresh, and so good I had to order two more orders. Many of you know I love my Asian food and have very high standards. This place is good, wish I known about it sooner. read more

Food is very good, owners I know work really hard, they are bit stingy about giving you sauces so make sure you ask for what you need. Very good and friendly service. Staff was very quick to finish the meal...10 minutes for three orders. It tasted fresh and restaurant was clean. The fried rice had a wonderful but delicate grill/hibachi flavor. Excellent. I loved the egg rolls and sweet sour sauce...yum. Paper light flakey crust with fresh and crispy cabbage and spiced meat. We also loved the hot and sour soup and the egg roll was very tasty. Only wish I would have ordered my beef a little hotter. I am finding it harder and harder to recommend going here. For the record the food is still good, however the prices are just getting outrageous. I don't understand why I can get the equivalent order at Chinese places in Des Moines for about $7.00 to $10.00 less than China Dragon. It had been a while since we ordered from there but normally our order used to come out to about $28.00. A few days ago it came out to around $34.00. Love this place! Was in town for a week and ate there every day. Sesame chicken and crab rangoon rock. Super fresh. Loved the carrot flower. Heard another customer raving about the fresh made egg rolls (he ordered eight!). Even though they have very few customers in the dining room, they have an unbelievable take out business because tons of people were picking up orders. The lady got into an argument with me because I ordered over the phone I told her I wanted chicken fried rice and 4 crab Rangoons 3 separate times she asked if I wanted an entree I said no just chicken fried rice and 4 crab rangoons. I get there and I say "hello I'm here to pick up that chicken fried rice and crab rangoons" she says "no you said you wanted chicken phò, chicken fried rice and crab rangoons; I even asked twice." We get into an argument and she ends up saying whatever and has to remake the fried rice? I'm not sure why considering it was apart of the order she said I made. She gets back there and ends up calling me insults in Mandarin (I took it for 6 years) and well it wasn't polite or something I believe I can repeat on here. Your imagination can lead you to something close to the answer. Anyway she ends up charging me too it's usually about 11.80 but this time it was 16 bucks so I don't recommend this place. read more

Chose take out. Hot & sour soup was neither, just a container of brown liquid salt. The egg drop was as flavorless as water, just thicker. They forgot the rice, even after asking what kind we wanted. They were empty, just playing a game on her phone, so can't claim it was so busy she forgot. Eggroll & crab rangoon were both disgustingly greasy. Mu shu pork was flavorless as well. Not sure what has happened, they used to be better than this. The sweet & sour pork was chunks of fried meat with some uncooked peppers and onion chunks tossed in. Sauce was good. Have been a customer since they opened several years back. They have great food, and it is prepared fast! They have the best crab rangoon I've ever eaten ANYWHERE. They are not greasy like other places, and the filling is thick cream cheese, not the thin, runny stuff so many other places use. The dough part is delicious...unlike any other places I've tried. I love their fried rice, too - not the one that comes with the lunches, but if you actually order a meal of chicken fried rice, for instance, it is a higher grade rice, and very good. I only have 2 complaints - they do not pack the rice down in the box like most chinese restaurants....they toss it in loosely, so I never feel like I am getting my money's worth in that regard. I order mine without onions, so they have to make it up special, and the box would only be like maybe 2/3 full if it was packed down like other places. Also, the beef they use in their beef dishes is not very good quality...it is kind of fatty and "slick". Not a fan. But their chicken is EXCELLENT. The owners and staff are very friendly and kind, and overall, I would highly recommend this place to anyone. Hope they stay around for years and years to come. Getting ready to move back to Des Moines, but I will make the trip back to Norwalk just to get their food! read more
