We haven't been there in a long time because they are no longer open for lunch. We stopped in and had to wait a while before they could take our order because they were so busy with carryout. We decided to eat in and we both ordered Mongolian beef and egg rolls. In a change from a year ago, it's just white rice and no egg roll included with this dish. The Mongolian beef wasn't as flavorful as we remembered it. The portion was large and we were able to bring home quite a bit. Adding soy sauce did add flavor to it. The egg rolls were good. I love their hot mustard. This must be a trend in Chinese restaurants, but you can no longer get a glass of water. You have to buy a bottle. Seems a little strange. The people were pleasant read more

China King used to be one of my favorites in Newton for takeout. But over the last year at some point, recipes were changed and now nothing tastes right. My family made a huge order for Christmas and here's part of our experience: the Mongolian beef is now somewhat like a beef stew. Teriyaki chicken tastes like curry or taco seasoning. The shrimp has been mushy. Everything is just off. It's disappointing. read more

Absolutely love their food. Great customer service. CASH ONLY. Wish they could open for lunch. The Moo Goo Gai Pan is stellar.

The food was fantastic. Service was top notch. The restaurant was very nice. Next time I'm dining in, instead of ordering take out. If you are looking for some delicious Chinese food. Please go and visit China King. It's a true mom and pop restaurant. read more

The best American Chinese food hands down. Get the orange chicken and crab rangoons! Ever since moving to Des Moines 15 years ago I still look forward to coming back to Newton for this place (and PJs deli and La Canana). read more

Love the sesame chicken and the veggie fried rice always cooked to order. Very polite people they only take cash but that's for a good reason card machines charge small businesses a fee to use a card read more

China King was good years ago. I just had some General Tso chicken last night that was split between both rubbery and dry. Not only was the food quality poor, but the prices in the store were much higher than what they show on their own website. Their website shows $11.80 plus tax for General Tso, Lo Mein and an egg roll. My wife came home and told me my order was $16.75 after tax ($15.65 plus tax). I will likely never order from there again considering the high price and poor food quality. For that price, I could of had a small sirloin somewhere. read more

I first started going to China King a couple months ago to try to find an alternative from HyChi. It was a total upgrade and I can't go to HyChi anymore The staff there is so nice and always gets my order correct. It's always hot upon arrival (I do pick up orders usually). I 1000% recommend this place. read more

Looking at all the other reviews I'm guessing my standards for chinese food are a little too high? Had shrimp noodle dish. Definitly edible but quite bland. Unfortunately would not revisit.............Portions very large. read more

Food is amazing and the service is the best my favorite is the fried dumplings made hot and fresh

We had a large order and the place was very busy. The staff was very nice and were working hard to complete our take out order. The portions of the food to the cost was very reasonable. The food was amazing, everyone in our family was very pleased. Best Chinese we have had in the states, hands down! I don't often recommend places to eat, but I feel this little shop deserves it. If your in Newton, Iowa and like Chinese, this is the place to go. read more

Great food, great service as always! If I had a complaint it would be that they don't offer delivery.

China King is the best! My order is always prepared hot and fresh plus a person could watch it happening. The service is friendly and efficient and the ambiance reminds me of a quick fast food place. Mostly take out however, there is limited seating; i always seem to find a place to sit & take in "the show" of preparation. read more

Food was Awesome. I even had the leftovers cold still delicious. I don't have comments on the restaurant since I had delivery.

Great place for pick-up food for dinner. They only take cash $, and their prices are reasonable. The staff is very friendly and helpful, once you get to know them- they will make sure you always get a great meal and good quick service. There are tables for eat-in, but it is very basic in there. Glad we found China King in Newton, it's our Go-to for carry-out here!! read more

Good food and they serve quickly. Only carry out and cash only as well. The best Chinese food in newton.

Arg. Yelp says they deliver but they don't. They also unfortunately don't take credit cards. Place is in a small strip mall and did look promising. But inside is maintained and neat. Food was great. Requested spicy and it actually came spicy ! Very pleased. We will be back read more

Excellent . Always fresh, made to order. Best egg drop soup. They don't take credit or debit cards so have cash ready. We always get carry out and they pack it up perfectly. read more

A very Americanized version of Chinese food - meaning lots of meat and very little veggies. Most people around here prefer that, so it's seen as a good thing. The flavors are great, portions are big and filling and the prices are very reasonable. The lady who takes orders and checks you out is always friendly and happy to see you, and she will throw in free items with larger orders. They have complimentary Jasmine tea in the waiting area that is great! Eating in the restaurant is quite uncomfortable as their seats are hard and it's not exactly welcoming. However, I truly enjoy their food for take-out. Yelp says they deliver, but as far as I know, they do not. read more

I really enjoy Chinese food. And I order from china king quite a bit, and they never have let me down. The food is always so good and the service is great. Also the pricing and choices of food are great! read more

Our family has lived world wide and China King is our favorite Chinese restaurant. Small and run by a local family, all food is fresh and prepared in house. Standards like soup and egg rolls as well as dumplings are prepared fresh every day. Excellent food, prepared quickly and at an excellent price. The woman who runs it has a phenomenal memory and when we return from a multiple year absence due to our travels, she not only remembers us but knows what we prefer. I love this place. read more

Best crab rangoons ever! Reasonably priced and timely service. Tasted great. I will be back.

One of my favorite Chinese places. Great value and great food. Love the crab Rangoon.

Great crab rangoon. The portion sizes are large, when we order my husband and I split one dish and still have leftovers.

Love this place. Started by getting lunch here. A lot of food for a little price. Started getting food for family for supper. We all can't get enough. Every time we get food we have leftovers and get to enjoy it for more than one meal. Our favorites are the crab Rangoon, chicken teriyaki, and the lo mein. Big chunks of beef and chicken in the lo mein make it even better. On top of all of it is the very fast service. Very rarely do we have to wait more than 10 minutes for our food no matter how much we order. read more

Wonderful owners cook fresh for you, by far the best Chinese in my view. Crab ragoon is delicious! Very personable, once you've been in a couple of times she will know your orders. Forgot to say no mushrooms and she asked!! read more

The BEST! I love their Chinese!! The people that own it are very nice and they always get our food right! The price is low compared to the quality and quantity of food that you get!! No matter how much food you order they always say "5 minutes!!" This will always be my go to Chinese restaurant!! Highly recommended! read more

The place was small but clean. Our meals were cooked to order, Lunch was only 5.50 a plate. Lots to choose from for lunch or dinner. For 3 kids and 2 adults (drinks, lunch and appetizer) it was 35.00, we even took some home. They do only take cash or check. I would recommend this place to anyone. We will be back when we are in town. read more

Don't let the typical Chinese fast food decor fool you. This is the best Chinese in town for sure.
