My son has been picked for the Iowa Selects Rugby team, and the tonight's practice was in Bondurant. How do you kill two hours? You go out and eat...while they try to get heat stroke. Brick Street Café is easy to find. It's nestled inside of the Fareway store. Just to the left as you enter. Parking is normal for a grocery store. So no issues there... They also offer a drive-through. It's seat yourself. The seating is a combination of low top tables and chairs and booths. There are a few counter seats as well. The menu is surprisingly large. I know they won Iowa's best tenderloin in 2014...and I hadn't been here yet.... That made my decision on what to order really easy. I upgraded to a premium side of fried mushrooms. For a drink, I went with the unsweetened iced tea. Staci was my server and she did phenomenal. I had a short wait for my food. It came to the table, piping hot. Much to my chagrin there was lettuce and tomato on my tenderloin... But like any good GenXer I fixed it myself and didn't say a word. It's definitely a quality tenderloin. Nice and thick. But not too thick. A very consistent breading. They did a nice job tenderizing it. There were no tough spots at all and it just kind of breaks away when you take a bite. The mushrooms were obviously fresh out of the fryer. I've got the second-degree burns to prove it. Lol I'm okay with that because I sure don't want them cold. Everything was cooked perfectly. Service was wonderful. It's order and pay with your server at the table. Order the advertised award winning Breaded Pork Tenderloin with onion and pickles only. When the waitress brought it to me it was covered in lettuce I informed her because I had bariatric surgery I can't do lettuce and with this tainted lettuce thing going on I didn't want it touching my sandwich. She stated the cook cannot read English and she gave me a saucer plate and a knife for me to scrape off the lettuce which had already touched my sandwich. I scraped off the lettuce and ate half and left and probably will never be back again. I felt after I complained she should have taken it back and remade. read more

I read a review saying that if you lived in the area you should eat here often- I was in the area and gave it a try. Yum! Best decision ever. I'm a picky tenderloin eater. Sometimes grilled and sometimes breaded, thick or thin, it all depends on how I'm feeling. This was a dang good tenderloin! Enough for 3 meals for me and when I finished I looked down in disappointment that it was all gone. Onion rings were spot on- side salad was greens I needed to balance out the rest of the meal. I'm done. It was absolutely disgusting today. I've gone from being a weekly regular to eeh, every now and then I'll swing through. Drive thru coffee is always good though. A great spot to grab a nice quick meal! Not a lot of seating but there was no issue finding an available table at lunch on a Saturday. They have a great all you can eat soup and salad bar for a low price. All the food was excellent. Especially the grinder fries - great seasoning and cooked perfectly. I really appreciate the customer service here. I was on a job at a large facility nearby and got majorly delayed. My wife was waiting for me here at Brick Street and they made her feel completely welcomed. She explained she'd be waiting for a while and that can be a quick turnoff for servers/restaurant staff. They totally took care of her, had great conversation and pivoted perfectly when she needed to change to a to-go order and come meet me instead. Really enjoyed the Sriracha burger -really good flavor without getting over the top with heat. Loved the way they did their fries. BTW, their ranch and spicy ranch totally go on everything. Solid game on both the curds and the fried pickles. NOM! The leftovers were honestly just as good cold. I don't feel like you can say that about everywhere. The wife had a patty melt and said it was alright. Possibly the bread was too buttered or the meat was just super greasy for her taste. And the mac n cheese was alright, but nothing she would write home about. On the market side of things, she found some really good options you don't always see. Recently moved to Bondurant and was excited to try Brick Street Cafe! Our first time coming in was just for ice cream and the service was okay. A bit uncoordinated but we got our ice cream fairly quickly. During that visit we overheard a customer come to the counter saying she had been waiting 45+ minutes at a table to be helped. Staff apologized to the customer stating that they have to fulfill DoorDash/carry out orders before serving customers in their dining area. Our second time coming in we sat at a table for nearly 30 min and still weren't even asked for our drink order. We finally decided to leave once a table that was sat after us was approached by staff to order.... Because the staff knew the customers personally. I love love love this restaurant. My best friend lives just north of Brick Street. Now I have to stop every time I visit her. I've tried the burger, fries, French dip, and pork tenderloin (and I don't like pork tenderloin but theirs is wonderful). Their food has been consistently delicious. We are staying in the area for six weeks so my sister likes going to the cafe. We just go for the tenderloin baskets. Tuesday is appetizer half price day. There is a "Special" every day. The tenderloin is so thick you can eat half and take the other half home. It's not a paper thin one with no taste like a lot of other places serve. You also get a side. Not quite sure what happened here, this Cafe and store used to be really good. Perhaps it was COVID, perhaps some thing else, but the last two trips I've made here have been kind of pathetic. First it was the undercooked, raw-in-the-middle tenderloin( which is supposed to be their big draw), to the onion rings dripping with grease, to the manhole cover peanut butter cookies I sadly wasted $6 on in the store, but I'm not sure why this place even exists anymore. P U. I can tell its not a business that exists to make a profit, but more of one some lottery winners started to have a place to spend their money. Shame. Shame .Shame. I'm saddened by this. Absolutely loved the salad bar! What a deal! If you're in the area stop by and try this all you can eat salad bar. So many choices in pasta salads, pudding, dessert items, and salad toppings are endless! The soups are extra if you buy the salad bar. We also split a tenderloin which was flavorful and crispy. We stopped in here one night after picking up some things in Bondurant. The wife had heard talk of the cafe that is attached to the Brick Street Market and was also curious about the market its self. We're all so glad that we stopped!!! This place was amazing! Both the cafe and the market! We got right in and found a table. Out waitress came right over to ask us what we'd like to drink and gave us a few minutes to look over the menu. We got our drinks and placed our food orders. I have to mention that I got, what I might consider, the best root beer I've ever had! I believe it's called 1919 and it's on tap! WOW!!! Now for the food. The mini-yelper order the hot dog kids meal that came with a side and a bowl of Wells Blue Bunny ice cream. She got greens beans as her side and of course, chocolate ice cream. Our waitress was nice enough to bring it to her in a take out container so that she could take it home with her if she didn't finish it all. The wife ordered fish and chips. She really enjoyed it. They have a special type of fires I think they call twister/tornado fries. I ordered the tenderloin. How would I describe it.......Oh yeah, AMAZING!!!!! This thing was SO good! I was told they they get all of the meat they use from the meat counter in the market. The meat was perfect! A nice thick cut that was hand pounded and breaded. I had mine on an onion roll with the twister/tornado fries. And now for the market. It's a very nice and clean little market. If we lived somewhere that we didn't have the bigger grocery store, this would more then do. They did a great job with it! If we hadn't of been in the area, we might not have stopped in here yet but we're so glad that things worked out like they did! We'll deffanitly be driving back here for many more meals!!! read more

Bondurant, a Northeastern suburb of Des Moines, though four thousand residents, which is 100% more than they had ten years ago, is steadily growing, and there was no supermarket of any type, leaving the two Casey's General Store locations, Git 'N Go, and the BP Convenience Stores picking up the slack...but not anymore. Brian and Mary Lohse, who won the lottery back in 2013, contributed back to their hometown with a brand new grocery store called Brick Street Market & Cafe. The building's paid for...the contractors are paid for...and that's simply a rarity in today's day in age for local grocery entrepreneurs. I'm happy they performed the selfless act of building it. This saves the residents of Bondurant from driving 15 minutes (with traffic) to Ankeny or Altoona for grocery shopping. It has been open for a little over a month, and have finally found the chance to drive out and visit it. The exterior is nice, and if you live in the area, it reminds me of what Smokey Row Coffee on MLK Parkway looks like. The store hours are great, and they use the Shur-Fine private label items. They sell wine, feature a fresh deli, and have a full service meat counter. The look of the store is fresh and modern (it better be for it just opening!) Selection is very nice, having a little bit of everything. The prices are a tad higher than what you would find at Fareway or Hy-Vee, but it's the price of not having to travel to a neighboring suburb or a convenience store. I know there will be people that will have that attitude to where they'll say "This store sucks! Their prices are way too high! I'm going to Wal-Mart!", but they don't realize how important it is to have a grocery store near them, particularly for those who can't drive or don't want to fight the larger crowds at Super Target or Hy-Vee in Ankeny. This is a store we cannot take for granted. It is uneconomical for me to drive all the way out to Bondurant to go grocery shopping, as I live in the center of Des Moines, but it is a very important staple for years to come. I advise if you live near it, to shop there as much as possible! It's a nice clean store that has a great product selection and fresh items! read more

If I could give them a 0 I would. I do not recommend going here. They have poor customer service. I tried to be respectful about my concerns on their Facebook page since when we were at the restaurant there was only younger kids works. They served my daughter burnt french toast and we got a pie to go that wasn't even a whole piece. They forgot to heat up the macaroni and cheese I ordered and the was refrigerator cold temperature. I paid for it all and when I try to tell them what happened they don't want to acknowledge me. I love supporting small businesses but I recommend going somewhere else. read more

Yum! Real food! You can tell THEY make THEIR food. From the corned beef in the Rueben to the roast beef in the French dip, I am in love with the quality of the meat. The bread was fresh and beautiful. They had a salad and soup bar, which was an awesome find, since the whole place felt clean and inviting. We will definitely be back! read more

Very poor service in the Cafe. Two out of the last three times went in to order dinner to go and pay for meal and do a little shopping and they have to find me they are out of the items I ordered. The kitchen needs to communicate what they are out of. I live in Bondurant they want you to shop local. Better off going to HyVee or Fareway and receive better service. The cafe is a part of the new grocery store. It is a great small grocery store. The owners work right inside the store and are very friendly people. The cafe and grocery store are right off Highway 330 in Bondurant so it is convenient to stop there. read more

We stopped today and ate breakfast. Don't recall the older waitress's name, but the service was LOUSY and she seemed grouchy too, not very pleasant ! There was hardly anyone in the café too. Finally after 5-10 minute wait she came over and took our order. Brought water after another 4-5 minutes. Asked for straws, but finally had to get up and get my own. The eggs were over done and the bacon was half cooked. Oh yeah, when I asked for a senior discount, I was informed that "You know they are going to do away with that don't you?" I asked why and was told because "They're giving away the farm," Oh really ? The owners had won a BIG lottery winnings several years ago so don't think that a few discounts will break them.
